Here’s a timely message for Valentine’s Day. Hot tubbing keeps intimacy alive. Hello Alice:

I’ve always been athletic and conscious of my body and have lived a healthy lifestyle since I was a teenager.  Exercise and eating healthy were and still are important to me.  I noticed a change in my body when I turned 40 years old and I began to realize that exercising and diet were not enough. I started noticing my body took longer to recuperate from even just light exercise and some of the daily strains we all put on ourselves.  And of course I noticed feeling differently when I used certain medications if I wasn’t feeling good, salty food, an extra glass of wine with a big meal, and much more. I felt like I had less energy and more drained during the day, lethargic, and just more toxic than ever before. I wondered why this was happening to me since I had always been so health conscious, but I just kind of chalked it up to getting older.

Want to boost your creativity and intelligence? Read on! In a recent study as reported in the January 8th Wall Street Journal, Israeli researchers compared how 40 people performed on a 25-item test requiring considerable linguistic inventiveness. Before the test, some people squeezed rubber balls—hard—with their left hand, an activity known to stimulate the brain’s right hemisphere, which, in turn, is associated with creative patterns of thought (though creativity is not confined to any single part of the brain, as the authors were quick to note). Others squeezed with their right hand, and there was also a control group.

The left-hand squeezers got an average of 12.5 questions correct on the test, compared to 8.4 for the right-hand squeezers. This led the authors to conclude that selective hand-clenching can “can greatly influence the outcome of the thought process.”

Full moon names date back to Native Americans tribes of the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. The entire month was named after the full month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the Moon names, but in general, the same ones were current throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior. European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names. Since the lunar month is only 29 days long on the average, the full Moon dates shift from year to year.  From the Farmers Almanac we get the moon name for January:

• Full Wolf Moon – January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January’s full Moon.  Ancient peoples thought that the moon on a clear night in January showed a picture of a howling wolf.

Just sitting in hot water up to your neck aids cardiovascular health, says Bruce E. Becker, M.D., clinical professor of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington.

“The ultimate purpose of the heart as an organ is to pump blood in response to a physiological demand so its best measure of performance is volume of blood pumped per unit of time,” says Dr. Becker. “Immediately after a person is immersed, water begins to exert pressure on the body. Cardiac volume increases by nearly one-third with immersion to the neck.” Simply put, this means your heart gets a cardiovascular workout just from sitting in a hot tub; this does not occur being sedentary when dry.

And because water provides more resistance than air-making movement more challenging-even the most basic water workout can strengthen the heart and muscles better than a similar routine on land.
