Alma Surprises Kids with Whimsical Themed Rooms

CAM RANH, Vietnam (May 29, 2025) – With screens seemingly ubiquitous nowadays, Alma Resort Cam Ranh is bringing youngsters’ imaginations to life in a fun and tangible setting with its new “Kids’ Themed Rooms”.

The optional boys’ and girls’ playful room set-ups bring a riot of colour to any of Alma’s oversized suites and pavilions, which all afford sweeping views of Long Beach and its buttermilk sands.

As children step into a themed suite or pavilion, they are greeted with a personalised card, a personalised welcome board hung above the entrance of a fun tent, personalised welcome cookies, colourful pillows, towel art, themed kids bedding and a kiddie float for either the private pool at a pavilion or the resort’s 12 swimming pools that cascade down to the beach.

A kids-themed room is priced at VND 600,000 (USD 24) on the first night and an additional VND 300,000 (USD 12) per night for succeeding nights.

The playful room set ups complement the resort’s awe-inspiring array of family-friendly facilities, ranging from a science museum, kids club and youth club, to a 75-seat cinema and a 6000sqm water park replete with a lazy river, wave pool, slides and kids pool. “The Alma Teddies” Command Centre Stage with Medley of Live Tunes

CAM RANH, Vietnam (May 22, 2025) – Alma Resort Cam Ranh has debuted its own in-house band dubbed “The Alma Teddies”, bringing almost 100 years of professional music experience to the forefront.

Resident pianist Bensaev “Ben” Javier Guillen, guitarist and vocalist Alex Sunder and accordionist Navalikhin Igor play an array of pop and rock songs at Alma Resort’s American Bar every Monday to Saturday from 7:15-10pm.

The schedule features a rotating trio of piano, guitar and vocals, and accordion across three 45-minute sets each evening.

Filipino Ben has played professionally for some 50 years, picking out tunes by ear. During his 20 years of performing at five-star hotels in Vietnam, Ben’s CV lists the likes of Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula and La Veranda Phu Quoc as employers.

A versatile musician, Alex contributes more than 20 years of performance experience underscored by a rich blend of classic and contemporary styles.

He has serenaded guests at The Anam Cam Ranh, Sunrise Nha Trang and Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang with his compelling acoustic sets.

A graduate of the prestigious Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg Conservatory, Igor has performed around the globe, from Europe to the Middle East. Since 2008, he’s also been part of the "Miras" folk song and dance ensemble.

“As we brainstormed a name for the band there was an Alma teddy bear that we sell at our Alma Mart atop Ben’s piano and thus the band became ‘The Alma Teddies’.”

The new guidelines, launched globally across Novotel’s 600 hotels, include banning of 350 species of endangered seafood species, and promoting responsible fishing by 2027, serving only MSC-certified wild-caught species or responsibly sourced local fish, and use ASC- or organic-certified farmed seafood for salmon and shrimp, fostering supplier collaboration where needed.

Why: The Blue Panda sails across the Mediterranean conducting missions to develop science-based solutions and recommendations to protect Mediterranean marine life, to raise public awareness, and leading lobbying missions with countries and communities.

Status: 2024 campaign completed across France, Greece, Turkey, Italy and Croatia; educational visits reached 550+ children in France; Cap Cétacés anti-collision system tested; ghost gear prospection and Marine Protection Areas studies conducted; Blue Panda to be in Nice 8–14 June for UNOC with stakeholder events.

4/ Tracking and tracing marine turtles Where: Global, with a specific focus on Asia-Pacific

Why: Six of seven species of marine turtles remained threatened by harvesting, illegal trade, being caught by commercial fisheries and the loss of nesting beaches.

Mapping nesting beaches, migratory corridors and foraging grounds for critical turtle populations.

Status: ‘Blue Corridors’ initiative launched October 2024; over 12,600 turtles tracked globally; data gathering and connectivity analysis ongoing in 2025; update to be published by WWF at UNOC 2025.

5/ Protecting the sea turtles of the Western Atlantic Where: Guiana Shield

Why: Mobilising civic society and fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing will help protect leatherback turtles breeding on coastal areas of the Guianas, and green and olive ridley turtles from Brazil to Venezuela.

Status: Youth ambassador programme launched; regional delegation to attend UNOC in June 2025; field projects including eco-guide training, citizen science, and advocacy actions ongoing through 2025-2026.

Singapore, 22 May 2025 – Club Med, the global leader in premium all-inclusive holiday experiences, capped off a record-breaking 2024, marking a year of significant growth and strategic achievements.

As the brand embarks on its 75th Anniversary celebrations in 2025, Club Med is poised to leverage this momentum to capitalise on its successful upscale transformation and rising demand for elevated experiences.

Club Med's 2024 results underscored its global leadership position in the premium all-inclusive market.

The group reported a business volume of €2.09 billion, up seven percent from 2023.

Mountain Resorts’ winter season saw a remarkable 20 percent growth, now accounting for over 35 percent of total business volume, reflecting the growing appeal of experiential ski holiday experiences.

The transition to full premium and Exclusive Collection resorts has solidified its competitive advantage in the upscale travel segment.

In the East, South Asia, and Pacific (ESAP) region, Club Med achieved remarkable success for its Premium All-Inclusive Resorts:

The ESAP region grew its business volume by 24 percent year-on-year and welcomed close to 260,000 guests from the region to its resorts worldwide, a five point five percent increase from 2023.

This surge was driven by the exceptional performance of the Mountain Resorts in Japan, China, and the European Alps, which saw a 57 percent rise compared to 2023, and the strong demand for Club Med Exclusive Collection portfolio, encompassing resorts, chalets, villas and the legendary French sailing yacht, Club Med 2, with 23 percent increase in business volume.

Singapore emerged as a key contributor to the region’s growth in 2024, with strong demand for premium, all-inclusive escapes — particularly to snow destinations: Total business volume rose by 12 percent year-on-year, reflecting continued interest in elevated travel experiences.

The number of Singaporean guests remained steady with a zero point three percent increase, following an exceptionally strong rebound in 2023.

Average Daily Rate (ADR) grew by five point nine percent aligned with Club Med’s upscale transformation.

Mountain resorts saw a 35.2 percent increase in business volume and 34 percent rise in Singaporean guests, reaffirming the strong appetite for ski holidays.

Snow ADR rose marginally by one point three percent supported by Exclusive Collection offerings.

Exclusive Collection resorts continued to appeal, with a 23 percent increase in business volume and seven point three percent growth in ADR.

Top-performing Sun destinations for Singaporean guests in 2024 were: Club Med Bintan (Indonesia), Club Med Bali (Indonesia), Club Med Phuket (Thailand), Club Med Kani Finolhu (Maldives), and Club Med Cherating (Malaysia).

Leading Snow resorts preferred by Singaporeans include: Club Med Kiroro Grand (Japan), Club Med Tomamu (Japan), Club Med Sahoro (Japan), Club Med Kiroro Peak (Japan), and Club Med Beidahu (China).

The ESAP region’s remarkable performance contributed to Club Med’s global achievements in 2024:

Business Volume of Club Med amounted to €2,090M, representing an increase of over seven percent at constant exchange rate, compared to that of the same period of 2023.

Resorts Operating Income[1], Net results recurring before tax, Recurring EBITDA[2] and Operating Margin are equal to the 2023 level.

Resort beds capacity increased by plus five percent compared with 2023 with 100 percent of Premium or Exclusive Collection Resorts since April 2024.

More than 1.5 million clients vacationed at Club Med, an increase of plus one percent compared to 2023.

The average room occupancy rate reached 75 percent, marking a two-point increase for Premium and Exclusive Collection Resorts compared to 2023.

In line with the move upmarket and accelerating growth in ski vacation, further growth in the average daily rate which amounted to €232 and increased by plus seven percent compared to 2023 at comparable exchange rate.

Very strong momentum for Mountain Resorts’ winter and summer season, with a 20 percent increase in Business Volume compared to 2023, representing 35 percent of the company's global business.

Notably, bookings for departures in H1 2025 are already tracking ahead of 2024 by five point seven percent, driven by strong demand for ski and beach destinations across Europe, the Americas, as well as Asia-Pacific.

Vietnam crowned the most affordable South-East Asia country for backpackers

With Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam being among the top most popular countries for travellers in South-East Asia, global travel booking company Omio has ranked which one is the most affordable for backpackers.

By analysing a number of different factors for each country, including cheapest accommodation price, visa costs, food prices and travel prices, Omio has been able to reveal which South-East Asia country is the most affordable for travellers by then scoring each country from best to worse for each factor. The overall scores were then added up to provide a score out of 40 to create a final ranking system.

Vietnam is the most affordable South-East Asia Country for backpackers.

According to the data, the most affordable South-East Asia destination is Vietnam, scoring 40 out 45 across all factors. Offering travellers the cheapest beer (72p) and soft drink prices (36p) out of the five countries, Vietnam also offers cheap travel within the country, with the average one-way public transport ticket costing as little as 23p and cheap accommodation prices, starting from as little as a pound.

In second place is Indonesia, which actually ranked the most affordable for meal costs, coming in at an average of £1.37 for a meal at an inexpensive restaurant. It was also the cheapest place for those looking to embark on affordable leisure activities whilst they’re on their travels, which includes looking at gym prices, cinema ticket costs and tennis court rental prices.

Thailand came in third place respectively, followed by Malaysia and Singapore, with the latter scoring the highest prices across all categories compared to the other four countries.

More specifically, Singapore was significantly more pricey for accommodation, with the cheapest price for a one night stay coming in at an average of £51, compared to the super low prices of £1 for the top three countries.

However, whilst Singapore and Malaysia came out as more expensive than Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, these two countries actually enable travellers to stay for 3 months before needing to purchase a visa, the longest period than any other of the South-East Asia countries analysed.

Despite being one of the more pricey destination wedding options, Italy’s popularity cannot be denied. The country has around 19,500 posts for #italywedding on TikTok, making it the second most popular destination wedding location.

Francesca Brooking, a 30 year old travel blogger from Dunstable, Bedfordshire, has shared many of her adventures and day trips online with her followers on Tiktok, but what has garnered particular attention was her sleeper train videos, which have gained over 100,000 views.

Speaking exclusively to Omio, Francesca goes on to share where she has travelled to via sleeper train so far and what she has loved about the experience.

“I’ve travelled on two sleeper trains in the UK," says Francesca. “I have been on the Caledonian Sleeper twice to get to Scotland, going from London to Inverness one time and London to Fort William the other. I’ve also taken the Night Riviera from London to Penzance in Cornwall, which was another great experience.”

“There never was a dull moment”
“During my journey, I got to watch the dawn break over the countryside, which was pretty spectacular, and something that is unique to the sleeper train experience and something you wouldn't be able to fully capture whilst flying. On my journey up into the Scottish Highlands, the sun shone on the misty fields, making everything glow with golden light. As we travelled further north, snow-dusted mountains appeared in the distance, and we trundled past lochs, rivers, and vast moors.”

“You get a much better sense of the diverse landscape when travelling by train, and you pass by some iconic places. It’s also great for wildlife spotting in the early morning. Looking out the window, I saw deer, rabbits, foxes, pheasants, and other birds, so there certainly wasn’t a dull moment!”

When flying, more often than not, you are faced with hefty queues and long security lines, so Francesca wanted to avoid all of that and spend more time enjoying her holiday, and opting to travel via a sleeper train helped with exactly that.

“Since I was travelling in the UK, I wanted to do no-fly holidays. I also wanted to maximise my days on holiday rather than spending that time travelling. Travelling by sleeper train was convenient as I could save time and money I would have spent on a hotel. For the seat on the Caledonian Sleeper one way, I paid £55, which is pretty decent. I probably saved around £100 in comparison to taking the train to Edinburgh, staying the night, and then continuing my journey the next day.”

“Travelling by sleeper train is an experience”

“For me, sleeper trains are also about the novelty of the experience. They don’t get you to your destination in the quickest time, but they’re part of the experience of the trip rather than a way to get from A to B. The great thing about sleeper trains is you don’t need to worry about liquid allowances or whether or not your carry-on bag will fit under your seat or overhead bin. There are luggage restrictions, but they’re not as strict, so it’s a far more relaxing experience!”

“Sleeper trains are best for travelling long distances. The more time you have on board, the longer you have to get your head down and relax. A journey of up to eight hours or more is ideal, as it gives you enough time to get settled and into bed and then get dressed and have breakfast before you disembark. If the journey is seven hours or less, it might be worth taking the day train instead.”

Francesca’s top tips for those planning to book a sleeper train? “If you’re travelling in a seat, I really recommend a big scarf or shawl to drape over yourself as it can get chilly. A good eye mask that blocks out the light will also come in handy. Wear comfortable shoes or flip-flops so you don’t walk around barefoot or with just socks on in the corridor or bathroom.

It is also a good idea to bring your own snacks for the journey and have your essentials for the night within easy reach or in a washbag so you don’t have to open every bag to find something as corridors are quite narrow.”

“Plan ahead for a smooth journey”
“Like anything, the earlier you are, more often than not, the more stress-free your experience is, so I would say the best time to get to the station you are travelling from is at least an hour or 45 minutes earlier to get settled and checked in. In most cases, you will be allowed to board around 30-45 minutes before departure, which is great if you’re keen to get your head down as soon as possible.”

“When it comes to booking your train tickets, book in advance as possible and try to aim for outside peak season to get the best prices. If you’re planning to travel with something like a dog or a bicycle, you will also need to book these in advance and follow the train’s requirements as spaces are limited.”

So, where can you travel via night train in the UK and Europe?
“There are many sleeper trains to enjoy in the UK and Europe. In the UK, there are some fantastic night train options, like the Caledonian Sleeper, which Francesca went on. This train service runs six nights a week and serves cities like Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness,” says Omio. “Alternatively, you could also travel overnight from London to Penzance with Great Western.”

“When it comes to European trips, the company ÖBB offers its Nightjet service between destinations in Austria to other major cities in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and France, with its latest night train running between Paris and Berlin. In Italy, the train provider Trenitalia has its Intercity Notte, which travels across the entire length of Italy. It also offers Euronight, which can take customers between Italy and other countries such as Germany and Austria.”

“These are just some of the amazing sleeper train routes available in the UK and Europe, and with the continuing rise of conscious travel and as sleeper trains continue to expand, we are excited to see how this unique way of travel continues to grow.”

Coventry University chosen to prepare Indonesian academics for PhD studies

Coventry University is the only UK higher education institution selected by the Indonesian Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Technology to deliver a doctoral bridging programme preparing the country’s higher education academics for PhD studies.

The initiative will bring a cohort of candidates - all academics at higher education institutions across Indonesia - to Coventry University for an eight-week programme. They will develop essential research skills and knowledge in advance of their doctoral studies, which are set to begin in September 2025.

The participants will benefit from research skills training, research proposal development, meetings with supervisors, library induction sessions and PhD application development support. They will also gain insights into life as a PhD student in the UK through a peer ‘buddy’ system.

Coventry University’s Doctoral College provides a home and community to more than 800 postgraduate researchers, providing them with comprehensive training and development as part of the university’s investment in interdisciplinary research that tackles some of society's major challenges.
