Rumour has it that Kareena Kapoor has been approached for an item song in Dabangg 2.

We're told that she has put forth a list of demands to producer-director Arbaaz Khan. Reveals a source, "Bebo wants something that hasn't been done before. She has told Arbaaz that the song shouldn't even be promoted like an item song but like a part of the film. Other demands aside, she also wants the song to be part of a dream sequence.

Wonder what leading man Salman Khan has to say to Kareena's wish list?

Sachin hits 100th Century

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, treated like God by his fans, ended the long and tiring wait for his 100th international century on Friday at Dhaka's Shere Bangla National Stadium.

Tendulkar, the leading run scorer in the history of both Test and one-day cricket, achieved the most-coveted ton by taking a single off Shakib Al Hasan against Bangladesh in Asia Cup. Tendulkar's century came off 138 balls and was studded with 10 fours and a six.

"I can't think of anything at this stage, it has been a tough phase for me," Tendulkar told Neo Cricket channel after his innings. "I started off the season well but was luckless. It does not matter how many hundreds you score, you still have to grind it out."

"When I got the 99th century, no one spoke about it. I guess it was the media which started it. Everywhere I went people were talking about my 100th hundred," he said.

He was finally out for 114, caught behind off Mashrafe bin Mortaza, who then ran over to shake his hand.

The master blaster's 99th century had come against South Africa on March 12, 2011, at Nagpur during the World Cup. Friday's century was Tendulkar's 49th in one-dayers; he has 51 Test centuries.

Tendulkar, who was left stranded on 99 international hundreds for a year and four days, played Test series against England, the West Indies and Australia. He also featured in the recently concluded triseries in Australia but his bid to become the first batsman to score 100 international hundreds remained unfulfilled, although he came close on a few occasions.

Tendulkar has set a benchmark unlikely to be surpassed in his lifetime, with his closest rival, Ricky Ponting, on 68 international centuries and approaching the twilight of his career at the age of 37.

Since his international debut at 16 against archrival Pakistan in 1989, Tendulkar has been compared to not only top batsmen of his era like Brian Lara and Inzamam-ul-Haq, but also to Australian great Donald Bradman as the best batsman ever.

Bradman, who retired in 1948 with an average of 99.94 runs, said Tendulkar reminded him of his own playing style.

Tendulkar has defied age and injury at every stage of his career. Whenever injuries threatened to stall his career, he pushed his body to the limit, and sometimes even beyond. Even the most threatening of all his injuries - the painful tennis elbow (in 2004) - couldn't break him. He cried out in agony, waited with hope for almost a year, tackled it with determination and ultimately conquered it like only he can.

In February 2010, Tendulkar became the first in world cricket to score a double hundred in one-day internationals, while in December 2010 he became the first to score 50 Test tons, both landmarks achieved against the best pace attack in world cricket - South Africa.

Wisden, regarded as the bible of cricket, named Tendulkar as the leading cricketer in the world for the year 2010.

In 2007, Wisden had identified Tendulkar as the player to have won such an award for 1998 - had it been instituted then.

Tendulkar, who realised his long-cherished dream when India won the World Cup in April 2011, was also named in Wisden's 2009 Test XI, at his accustomed number four position.

His passion for the game not only keeps him going, but also gives him the opportunity to reinvent himself. Each time he goes out on to the field he seems to be raising the bar for himself.

Actor Salman Khan begins to workout hard for his Dabangg 2 look...

Salman Khan, who has his plate full with some interesting movies, has opted out of hosting Bigg Boss 6, and has already hit the gym to get a never-like-before body for Dabangg 2. Dabangg 2 is extremely close to his heart, especially after the success of Part I. Also, the sequel marks the directorial debut of Salman's brother Arbaaz Khan.

Salman Khan, it is heard, is ready to put in four times the effort to get a perfect physique for his look in this masala entertainer. So we can expect more shirts tearing, more bare bodied shots, and what not!

When we got in touch with Sallu, he was quick to say that staying fit is a tedious bet with actors such as himself not getting any younger. And with the current young brigade getting all fitness conscious, and flexing their muscles and six-pack abs, getting to the finish line had never seemed harder.

However, knowing Salman Khan and his fetish for health and fitness, this Dabangg character may shine once again at the box office.

Poonam Pandey Without Bikini: Model Poonam Pandey, who once grabbed headlines for stating that she will bare all if Team India wins the World Cup, has finally gone topless.

Her act coincided with team India's victory against Sri Lanka during the ongoing Tri-Series at Hobart.

The 20-year-old started a survey on Twitter asking fans if they would like to see "Poonam Pandey Without Bikini" and she later posted a topless picture of hers on the micro-blogging site.

Sharing the picture, Poonam tweeted: "Finally on Public demand Sharing a pic 'Poonam Pandey without Bikini Tweethearts'. Thanks for loving me so much... Love you all..."

She also warned people below the age of 18 not to take a look at the pic: "Warning18 and under should not try looking up the pic. I do not take responsibility for anyone under age."

Zarine Khan in Delhi Wedding

Big moolah celebrations in the capital are now incomplete without Bollywood celebs, big or small (depending on the host's budget) shaking their booty, but a party in Delhi on Wednesday night turned ugly as actress Zarine Khan walked out midway during her performance.

Apparently, one of the guests misbehaved with the actress during her performance, forcing her to leave the venue, even though she'd been paid 5 lakh to perform at the particular anniversary celebration at Tivoli Gardens in south Delhi.

A source present tells TOI that Zarine was performing on stage, when one of the guests started showering a wad of 10,000 on her, and there were whistles with each 100 that was thrown on her.

Zarine objected strongly to the behaviour and stopped performing. The cancelled performance lead to a heated debate between the hosts, the event management firm and Zarine, with the actress refusing to return the money that she'd been paid. So, to settle matters, the event managers dialled for police assistance on 100, even as Zarine left for her hotel, while blaming the event managers for the fiasco.

A police official from the Vasant Kunj police station, who met with the event managers late on Wednesday evening, told TOI, "Ek jhagde ki call aayi thi, but there was no physical violence. Zarine ka show tha Tivoli mein where some guy showered money on her. She became upset with the behaviour and stopped performing. When the event manager asked her to return the money since she hadn't completed her act, she refused to do so, saying that it was his fault that the guest misbehaved. We couldn't do anything there since there was no brawl. We told them that this should be dealt with as a civil suit; it's not under police purview. If the event management firm thinks Zarine didn't fulfil her commitment, they should file for a claim."

Saif Ali Khan arrested

A day after Saif Ali Khan allegedly beat up a South African businessman at a five-star restaurant, actor insisted he was attacked first and that the episode was not a publicity stunt for an upcoming film. At a press conference on the strategic alliance of his new film Agent Vinod with World Series Hockey, the actor said, "I have already said there are two sides to the story. I have complete faith in the court of law and they will best decide about the case."

Police sources said there was a "strong case" against the actor and his friends, businessman Shakeel Ladak and producer Bilal Amrohi. The three were arrested on Wednesday for assaulting businessman Iqbal Sharma and his father-in-law Raman Patel. They were granted bail at Colaba police station within an hour.

"We have questioned eyewitnesses, including the hotel staff and management. Their statements have corroborated Sharma's version. This is a simple case so far and we will file a chargesheet very soon," said a senior officer involved in the probe.

Saif had filed an application through his lawyer on Wednesday, levelling charges against Sharma. The actor alleged that Sharma and his father-in-law came to his table and started abusing the ladies with him, and started the fight. The application said he was later approached by Sharma's mother-in-law who requested him to forget the matter, saying no one was in their right mind. "We have registered a non-cognizable offence in this matter. However, currently there is no strong evidence in his case. If he gets medical documents to prove he was hurt and assaulted, we will register an FIR," the cop said.

The officer added there was no CCTV footage available as the five-star restaurant had not installed cameras in order to respect the privacy of their guests. "We have no recorded footage of the incident. We have interrogated the hotel staff and taken down their statements. There were only these two parties present in the restaurant at that point so the management and staff are our sole witnesses," said the officer.

Denying the incident was a publicity stunt, Saif said, "I never publicize my film in a negative manner. Whoever does that, it depends on the mentality of the production house and their class."

While Saif is sticking to his stand, saying he has full faith in the law and has filed a complaint with the police alleging he was hit first, so is the complainant. Iqbal Sharma visited the Colaba police station on Thursday evening along with his wife to give a statement to the police. Sources said he left the station by 8pm. Terming Saif's allegation that he was attacked first as "rubbish", Sharma said, "Police have recorded my family's statement in the case." Reiterating that he couldn't say if Saif was under the influence of alcohol, Sharma said, "I can't really say, but the action of Saif that night was definitely not of a person in a sober state of mind." Sharma returns to South Africa on Thursday night but will be back soon.

Asked if he thought the cops have gone easy on the actor, Sharma said, "Not at all, the right thing was done according to the section under which the case was registered." He added police are definitely taking the case seriously and expressed satisfaction with its progress. Senior police inspector Vinod Sawant too denied charges of being lenient towards the actor and his friends. He said Khan had been treated like any ordinary citizen and the police had followed all protocol in his arrest. "We brought him to the police station in a police van, fingerprinted him and took down his statement. There is no question of partiality."

Speaking to TOI, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha said, "I personally know Saif, he is a thorough gentleman. It is inconceivable that he will violently react without serious provocation. It is unfair to run stories against celebrities just because it makes good TRP sense. Let the police do their job." Asked if stars misuse their position, filmmaker Ramesh Taurani said it was the other way and especially during outdoor shootings, stars get harassed by people who want to click photographs of them. "I have worked with Saif. I really don't know what transpired that night but I have never seen Saif losing his cool any time. He is a well-mannered and classy person," Taurani said.

Tajdar Amrohi, whose son Bilal was also arrested and later granted bail on Wednesday, told TOI, "It is an unfortunate incident. The NRIs wanted mileage and have managed to gain it by seeing themselves on national news. I am told the senior gentleman started the scuffle and Saif and his group only reacted. Besides they were also passing filthy comments against the women on Saif's table."

On the allegation that he was trying to gain mileage from the incident, Sharma said, "I don't need such mileage. They need it to be in the public eye."

But Bollywood, which usually voices its opinion on various issues on social networking platforms, chose to remain silent, barring a few like composers Vishal Dadlani. "Let me put it this way. If Saif was provoked or hit first, I think he did what many of us would do. By 'us', I mean myself and you guys. Not condoning or defending violence, but everyone's allowed to be human once in a while, no? I think every right-thinking person should ask this question," Dadlani posted on Twitter.

Traffic in Bangalore

One morning last week, traffic was clogged at the water tank junction near St John's Hospital in Koramangala, Bangalore. A private security guard was managing one of the city's busiest junctions, and to make matters worse, was operating the traffic lights manually, as he thought fit. TOI found out that the policeman from Adugodi traffic police station, in charge of the signal, was away for lunch.

Traffic management for a city like Bangalore is a game of complex calculations, starting with how many vehicles a road can take at a given point of time to how many vehicles should be allowed at a junction, and other factors. Signals are timed, based on these calculations. But the timing goes awry when the traffic policeman on the road decides to take it into his hands.

Reality Check

Following this incident, TOI carried out a reality check on Bangalore roads, and found that throughout the day, at many important signals, traffic cops were changing the signal manually, often resulting in traffic pile-ups at junctions and on connecting roads. The traffic policeman often concentrates on one side of the road and ignores the traffic pile-up on the other.

A classic example is the Old Madras Road signal near Byappanahalli Metro station, where two main roads merge - BEML main road and the road coming from Byappanahalli. In the morning , the traffic policeman operates the signal based on what he sees coming from KR Puram, and fails to regulate traffic on other roads, which sometimes clogs up a 1km stretch.

Commuters say this is unfair. "Every morning, on my way to work, I see the traffic policeman changing the signal. He allows traffic on the main road, but won't allow us to go towards Byappanahalli side, blocking the junction on 80-Ft Road," said Prakash Rao.

Traffic management experts say this practice could lead to bigger problems in the overall traffic management of the city. A policeman can manage traffic signals only up to a limited volume. In case of Bangalore, most of 40,000 old signals are beyond a single policeman.

In automatically managed signals, vehicles move systematically, keeping all roads clear. Allowing traffic to remain on a particular road for even a few seconds more could lead to a pileup, or worse, a gridlock.

"Signals could be programmed, where on a particular traffic corridor all the signals are synchronized, and turn green at the same time, so traffic keeps moving. This is possible with a calculated and automated signal," said M N Sreehari, traffic expert.

According to him, manual management can be allowed during VIP movement. Elaborate plans are needed to adjust traffic signals to changes in traffic patterns.

Infrastructure Work The Cause

According to additional commissioner of police MA Saleem, swift measures are required due to the recent infrastructure development in the city. "The current traffic management system needs a change. There are traffic diversions as infrastructure work is on. We are looking at different areas in the city and working out rearrangements. This process will get over soon and traffic management will be smooth. We've also given strict orders to traffic policemen not to shift to manual signals unless it's an unavoidable situation," he said.

Some Solutions

Vehicle activated signals is one of the best solutions. These signals are operated based on the volume of vehicles on the road. For instance, if one particular road is empty for a long time, leaving the signal green and blocking traffic on the other road will be a waste of time. So, if we fix sensors on the road, they could detect the presence of vehicles at that particular signal. If there are none, they will open up the other jam packed signal for traffic. Because the signal is operated by the movement of vehicles, the system is called 'vehicle activated signals'.

NRI tax filing season in the US. As we approach the last date - 17th April 2012 - for filing tax returns for the year 2011, here's some help for NRIs living in the US on how their income from India gets taxed.

Tax on global income in the US

If you a US resident or US citizen (whether NRI, PIO or OCI), you must pay taxes in the US on your global income. Before we proceed, let us quickly look at the definition of US resident.

A person is said to be a resident of the US if he meets either of these two tests:

1. The first test is the 'green card test'. If at any time during the calendar year you were a lawful permanent resident of the United States according to the immigration laws, and this status has not been rescinded or administratively or judicially determined to have been abandoned, you are considered to have met the green card test.

2. The second test is the 'substantial presence test'. To meet the substantial presence test, you must have been physically present in the United States on at least 31 days during the current year, and 183 days during the 3 year period that includes the current year and the two years immediately before. To satisfy the 183 days requirement, count all of the days you were present in the current year, and one-third of the days you were present in the first year before the current year, and one-sixth of the days you were present in the second year before the current year.

If you are a green card holder (or a US citizen), you are considered a US resident for tax purposes irrespective of where you actually live. We will study the requirements of filing US tax returns for green card holders and US citizens living in India in another article.

If you are not a green card holder, then you must satisfy the substantial presence test. In this article we will see the US tax filing requirements for those who are actually living in the US.

How are various incomes taxed?

Having seen the definition of US resident, let us look at the various incomes in India and the tax implications on your US tax returns. While we are explaining the broad contours of the law, we strongly recommend that you read the relevant sections in the income tax act of both countries, the DTAA and also consult an expert for your specific case.

Salary

If you are a resident of the US but earned a part of your salary in India, then, as per the above definition, you would have to pay tax on your India income in the US. Is the payer in India subject to deduct tax at source in India? Not really. Article 16 of the DTAA states that salaries earned by a person who resides and works in country A (country A in this case being the US), shall be taxed 'only' in the country of residence, that is, the US. So if you are a resident in the US and are working in the US, you will pay tax on your India salary in the US.

However, it might happen that you earned salary in India before you became a resident of the US and tax was deducted at source on that income in India. In such cases, you can claim a credit of the taxes paid in India in the US.

Rajesh Vaidya, a chartered accountant from India who is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and works at Florida based Raju Maniar CPA firm makes an important point, "I would like to highlight a grey area here. In India, various components of the salary package are taxed differently. For instance, reimbursements and certain allowances are tax-free. In the US however, there is no such distinction; any payment received from your employer is taxable. Now your form 16 reports only the taxable components of your salary. Ideally, when you file your income tax return in the US, you must disclose all the tax-free components of your Indian salary and pay tax in the US on those components too."

How to report: You must include your salary income from India in the tax return Form 1040. In case you are claiming tax credit, you must also fill up Form 1116. Remember that the US follows the calendar year for tax purposes while India follows the fiscal year. You must pro-rate your income according to the relevant years.

Note: There is an exception to Article 16 which states that in case the employment is exercised in the other country, that is, in India, tax will be deducted at source. But this exception would apply mainly to green card holders and US citizens. We will see this in the next article.

Income from contracts, freelance

If you are a consultant working in the US but receiving income from an Indian company, you would have to pay tax on that income in the US. This is irrespective of whether you receive the income in a bank account in the US or in India.

Again, we need to take a look at the DTAA to check if this income will get taxed in India. Article 15 of the DTAA says that in such cases, if a person is resident of one country and earning income from a source in another country, then that income would be taxed 'only' in the country of his or her residence.

So, if you work in the US and receive income from a source in India, you would owe taxes only in the US. You would have to inform your Indian payer not to deduct taxes at source from your income by submitting a Tax Residency Certificate, issued by the US IRS to the payer in India. In case you do not submit the certificate and your payer in India deducted tax at source, you can claim a credit of that on your US tax return.

How to report: "You must report your income on Schedule C of the 1040. You can claim all expenses that you incurred such as office expenses, depreciation of computer, mileage etc. In case you have to claim tax credit in the US for taxes paid or deducted in India, you must report the same on form 1116," Vaidya explains.

Rent

If you own a property in India and have given it out on rent, the income from rent will be taxed in the US. Will you have to pay tax on this in India or US?

Enter DTAA! Article 6 of the DTAA provides that rent from immovable property 'maybe' taxed in the country in which the property is situated. So NRIs who are residents of the US would first have to pay tax on rental income in India. While you would still have to declare that income while filing your tax returns in the US, you would get a credit for taxes paid in India.

The term 'maybe' is important here. Unlike salary and contract income that was 'only' taxed in the country of residence, in case of rent, both countries will have the right to tax the income. However, the country in which the property is situated has the first right. So tax will first be paid in India on rental income as per the taxpayer's tax slab in India. Then the taxpayer must declare the rental income in the US and calculate tax on his total income based on his tax slab in the US. He can take credit in the US on taxes paid in India. What this really means is that even if your tax bracket in India is low, you will be paying tax in the US on your rental income at the tax bracket of the US. If you own property in India and fail to pay tax in India on the rental income but pay tax in the US on that income, you might get into trouble if you are assessed in India.

How to report: Vaidya explains, "You would need to fill up Schedule E of the 1040 in your US tax return. While in India, a flat 30% expenses are allowed as deduction from rental income, in the US only actual expenses maybe deducted. So you would need to deduct expenses such as repairs, maintenance etc on Schedule E. In order to claim tax credit, you would need to fill up form 1116."

Capital gains

Capital gains are the gains you make on sale of assets like property, land, financial assets like shares, mutual funds etc. In India, here is how capital gains are taxed:

Land, property and other physical assets: Gains on sale after 3 years of purchase are taxed as long term capital gains at the rate of 20%. Sale within 3 years is taxed as short term capital gains and included in your total income and taxed at your overall tax slab.

Mutual funds, shares and other financial assets: Gains from equity shares and mutual funds sold after 1 year are tax free. If you sell within a year, the tax is 15% of the capital gain.

In case of debt instruments like debt mutual funds, debentures, gains on sale after 1 year are taxed as long term capital gains. The tax rate is 20% with indexation or 10% without indexation. Sale within 1 year is taxed as short term capital gains and included in your total income and taxed at your overall tax slab.

According to the US law, the time period for long term is 1 year for all assets. Long term capital gains are generally taxed at the rate of 15% while short term gains are added to your total income.

Here's what the DTAA says in terms of capital gains: each Contracting State may tax capital gain in accordance with the provisions of its domestic law.

So if you have capital gains in India, you would first have to pay tax in India on those gains as per the rules in India. You would then have to declare the capital gains in your US tax return and calculate taxes as per US law. Credit of taxes paid in India would be available in the US.

How to report: "You would need to fill up Schedule D of 1040. Form 1116 will allow you to claim foreign tax credit paid, if any," says Vaidya.

Interest and dividends

In India, interest income is added to your total income and taxed according to your overall tax slab.

In the US too, interest is added to your total income and taxed thereon.

What DTAA says: Interest arising in a Contracting State and paid to a resident of the other Contracting State 'maybe' taxed in that other State. However, such interest may also be taxed in the Contracting State in which it arises and accordingly to the law of that State, provided that where the resident of the other Contracting State is the beneficial owner of the interest the tax so charged shall not exceed 15 per cent of the gross amount of the interest.

It means that if the interest is earned by an NRI out of deposits in India, TDS will be deducted on the same in India at the lower rate of 15 per cent (as against TDS rate of 30 per cent in absence of any DTAA).

In the US, you would have to add this interest income in your total income and calculate tax thereon. You can claim credit for any taxes paid in India on this income.

Dividends in India are tax free but in the US, dividends are added to your total income and taxed.

So while you will not pay any tax in India on the dividends, you would still need to add this to your total income in the US and calculate tax thereon.

How to report: "Interest and dividends are reported on Schedule B of 1040. Foreign tax credits are reported on form 1116," Vaidya explains.

Agricultural income

Agricultural income in India is tax free but taxed in the US. What this means is that any agricultural income, whether revenue income or capital income such as gains from sale of agricultural land in India will have to be added to your total income in the US and tax paid thereon.

Limits on foreign tax credit

While foreign tax credit can be claimed in the US, there are certain limits. The IRS prescribes a formula in form 1116 which effectively indicates that foreign tax credit should be in the same proportion to the total US tax liability as foreign income is to total income. Consult your CPA for details on these calculations.

State income taxes?

A final word from Vaidya, "The taxes discussed above are with respect to federal income taxes. In the US, each state also levies taxes and the rules vary from state to state. Do consult your CPA for the rules in your state regarding state taxes." Check out latest Dobbs Tire Coupons!

The 30-year-old Yuvraj Singh has been in US since last month being treated for what was earlier claimed to be a tumour in the lungs by his family.

But it has now been diagnosed as malignant and Yuvraj is currently undergoing chemotherapy in the Cancer Research Institute in Boston.

His physiotherapist Dr Jatin Chaudhary, however, assured that the ailment is curable and the batsman would be fit to resume cricket in May. His mother Shabnam Singh could not be reached while his former cricketer father Yograj refused comments on the matter.

"It is a rare tumour and is cancerous but it has been detected in stage one itself. Doctors had to decide whether to continue medication or go for chemotherapy but since parts of the tumour are just above the artery of his heart, there was a danger that while running it could burst. But it is 100 per cent curable," Chaudhary said.

"The doctors decided that he would have to undergo chemotherapy and he travelled to the US on January 26. End of March, he would undergo a CT scan and should recover by then. After that it is just some rehabilitation in April before he is fit to be back on the field in May," he added.

Yuvraj, who was Player of the Tournament in the World Cup last year with 362 runs, 15 wickets and four Man-of-the-Match awards, has also been taking ayurvedic medicines to battle the disease.

"After ayurvedic treatment only three cycles of chemotherapy are required. Initially when the cancer was diagnosed after a biopsy in October end, doctors feared that the treatment would be six cycles of chemotherapy," Chaudhary said.

"Thankfully no surgery is required, he is already a lot better than what he was and can't wait to be back on the cricket field," he said.

Chaudhary said the detection of cancer was delayed by wrong diagnosis by an Indian hospital.

"His first biopsy report was stolen from his car and the second from a hospital, I don't want to name, did not give the correct diagnosis. It was a Russian doctor who detected the cancer and after consultations with doctors in US, it was decided that Yuvraj would undergo chemotherapy," he said.

"Once he is done with chemo in March, his rehabilitation would be complete by April end and he would be perfectly fit to play in May," he added.

Yuvraj has played 37 Tests, scoring 1775 runs at an average of 34.80.

He has 8051 runs at an average of 37.62 from his 274-match ODI career, the highlight of which was his stellar role in India's World Cup triumph last year.

After a tumultuous day of muck-flying and titanic tweeting battle-scarred party-bashers Shah Rukh Khan and Shrish Kunder called it a truce on Tuesday afternoon, courtesy Shrish's brother-in-law Sajid Khan and Shah Rukh's wife Gauri Khan.

Apparently Sajid and Gauri called for a meeting at Shah Rukh Khan's residence Mannat between the two warring parties. Over a hot meal and cool discussion, the acrimony was wiped clean.

Apparently Shah Rukh and Shirish have decided to start their rapport all over again.

Confirming the reconciliation at Mannat Sajid Khan said, "Yes, I felt terrible about the ugly turn that the whole affair took. Shah Rukh and Shirish had a fight, agreed. But the media didn't have to play it up to the point of making it on the front of national newspapers."

Getting sentimental Sajid Khan says, "Do you know when my sister Farah and Shirish got married there were only three witnesses. Me, Sajid Nadiadwala and Shah Rukh. We're family.And there're bound to be differences between family members. Yes, Gauri and I took the initiative.All of us met at Mannat over a meal.And it was all sorted out."

Adds Farah Khan, "I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am. This had turned really ugly. And before it got uglier my brother took matters into his hands.Full credit to Gauri for making the reconciliation happen.When my brother asked her where we should meet she said Mannat ,because she said it's Farah's home. I am so moved."

Farah says this is not only the end of the ugly spat between her husband and Shah Rukh, it is also a new beginning for her and Shah Rukh. "I really liked what he said. He made us promise to wipe out all the bitterness of the last two years and start afresh.I feel like a big burden is off my back."

It was a fight that had a long history to it. On Sunday night-Monday Morning at the Aurus restaurant in the suburbs of Mumbai, Sanjay Dutt hosted a party to celebrate the success of his Agneepath role and film.

Guests were having a ball when at around 4.30 am Shah Rukh Khan entered the venue straight after the Filmfare awards with three bodyguards. According to eyewitnesses he was apparently in an inebriated condition.

Soon, he headed towards filmmaker Shirish Kunder and roughed him up.

Says an eyewitness, "We didn't know what was happening. We saw SRK enter. Then we saw him head towards Shirish from behind the director. SRK pulled Shirish down to the ground by his long hair. We were all shocked. We had never seen SRK behave this way before. Before anyone could react Baba Dewan the owner of Aurus ran in and intervened. SRK told Dewan to keep out . Dewan said the place belonged to him and he must intervene. The fight would've been prolonged had Sanjay Dutt not pulled SRK away from the ugly scene."

The shell-shocked Kunder apparently left immediately. We tried to probe the cause for Shah Rukh's provocation.

Says a source close to Kunder, "Shah Rukh was smarting since Kunder made a sarcastic comment on SRK's Ra.1 when it released.But the immediate provocation was apparently a comment that Kunder made about SRK and Priyanka Chopra at the party that SRK overheard.But that is hogwash. Kunder didn't say anything about Priyanka. Why would he? Everyone was there to celebrate a success, not to create ugliness. "

Kunder and Shah Rukh have a history, of course. Kunder's wife Farah Khan was one of Shah Rukh's closest friends. They fell out a year back. Kunder, we believe, faced the brunt of SRK's pent-up wrath at Dutt's party.

Farah who was shooting all night for Bela Sehgal's Shirin Farhah Ki Nikal Padi got to know of the fight only when she returned home in the morning.

Shocked and hurt Farah says, "Shah Rukh has always told me that physical abuse is the worst way to sort out a problem,and that it means the person who's hitting has either a personal or professional crisis going on.It saddens me to see him doing the same."

A theory doing the rounds is that Sanjay Dutt too joined Shah Rukh to bash up Shirish Kunder.

Rubbishing this rumour Dutt told me, "I didn't join in the fight. I sorted out the fight between Shah Rukh and Kunder."

Salman Khan to free Jail Inmates

Dabangg Bodyguard Salman Khan is ready to pay the fine on behalf of about 400 inmates who are languishing in jail despite completing their term.

Salman's charitable organisation Being Human has written to jail authorities offering to help inmates, who have served their sentence but are still locked up because they cannot pay their fine due to poverty or some other reason.

Jail authorities have sent the letter to the legal section. Following their clearance a no objection certificate will be sought from the administration.

With their permission, the 'Bodyguard' star's foundation will submit about Rs 40 lakhs thereby freeing approximately 400 inmates from jails in the state.

"In about 63 jails in UP there are 400 such inmates who have completed their jail term but are still inside because they cannot pay fine due to financial problems," Vijay Kumar Gupta, IG Jail (UP), told PTI Bhasha.

When a convict is sentenced for a crime he is asked to pay a certain fine along with the jail term. If he is unable to pay the fine the prisoner may have to serve an additional term.

Salman himself has been involved in a few legal troubles. In 2002, the 46-year-old actor was arrested for rash and negligent driving after his car ran into a Mumbai bakery. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped and he was found not guilty.

In 2006, Salman was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting a Chinkara but was granted bail after spending three days in prison. Check your EPF Balance online!
