2011-12-20T02:40:00.000+07:00

News yesterday that North Korea's hereditary leader Kim Jong Il had passed away began to filter through to Twitter in the morning and newspapers were quick to follow up as people around the world quickly began to speculate as to what this event might mean for them. Share markets fell, most notably in South Korea, and regional militaries went on alert. Australia's foreign minister, Kevin Rudd,

Madou's (麻豆) Most Famous Restaurant

Madou's (麻豆) Most Famous Restaurant, originally uploaded by Patrick Cowsill.

Just off the Chungshan (中山) Freeway out of Tainan, you'll find Allen's Wa Gui (阿籣碗粿), a joint specializing in traditional dishes that is packed no matter what time of day you arrive. In Taiwan, crowded restaurants don't scare people away; in fact, they're often seen as a testament to the cooking. Favorites at Allen's Wa Gui include wa gui porridge and pig intestine soup. Allen's is also said to be a favorite of former Taiwan President, Chen Shui-bien, and his family. I have written about this popular restaurant, and Madou (麻豆), Taiwan before: http://patrick-cowsill.blogspot.com/2010/02/madou-taiwan-coming-home.html

So many angry Australians

2011-12-19T23:19:00.000+07:00

DENG DENG DENG!

HEYA EVERYONE!!

So last weekend was the Biannual Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011 and if you follow my tweets you'd already know I won for the Most Influential Blog and Region's Best Blog (again :p).

But before I blog about that event, today I received a barrage of intense hate tweets from a bunch of Australian bloggers, some of which (or is it whom?) seem to be genial mummy bloggers wtf and they all seem to be for some reason talking about herpes and kangaroos. -_-

I had no idea what the hell was going on until someone linked me to a blog entry by some Australian blogger who apparently dedicated a hate post towards me.

Normally I wouldn't really give a shit because it's just another typical blog post about someone who doesn't understand that most of my blog entries are not serious and takes every little single detail out of context to dislike me. But judging from the response it appears that most Australians who read her blog and have never read mine are taking her words to heart so here is a blog entry about this.

I'm not gonna link that hate post because I read the "About me" section of that woman and it's the fucking saddest thing I've ever read. And I don't mean like loser sad but like that woman had a super hard life and had depression so please don't leave mean comments for her. She's taking an immense amount of pleasure from the hits her blog entry gave her (like documenting every hour wtf) and spending hours on end searching for "xiaxue" on twitter and replying everyone who replied me. I honestly believe she is psychologically damaged. :X

That aside, I still have to defend myself so here goes:

Firstly, Melissa, thank you for spending so much time reading my blog. It is amazing that you went all the way up to my rambling and boring 2003 entries - that's roughly 1,200 blog entries spanning across 8 years - and managed to find a few that really pissed you off. Did you enjoy reading them? I'm honoured that at the very least I'm not boring.

Let's tackle the thing that pissed you off the most - which is the travesty that I won for the Most Influential Blog (and I presume also Region's Best Blog).

Well, what can I say? My readers nominated me and yes I do wish to win so I asked them to vote for me. They did. My victory came as a complete surprise to me because as I said, there are many other very worthy contestants this year.

But how dare you suggest that somehow Nuffnang chose me to win because of... money? I'm literally sputtering in indignation - what the fuck has money got to do with anything? I don't care about your hatred for me but don't use it as an excuse to attack Nuffnang.

And then you go on and on about how YOU don't do ads for your website. WHO THE FUCK CARES? Bitch please, you don't do ads because your ads earns you peanuts. If you could get money for your children's college education, you would turn it down? *ROLLS EYES* Are we supposed to respect you more as a blogger for that? Ridiculous.

Next you say this:

You'd be forgiven for thinking that someone who writes things like this and looks like this is a 15 year old girl, and I ought to really be more supportive of her 'efforts.

Except that this is a 28 year old married woman. Who confessed when she met her husband (IRL, they met online) for the first time, she was terrified he would have pimples. That she wouldn't be able to date someone ugly because her blog readers would turn on her.

(Cannot believe she found a problem with my Love Story entry)(And thanks for saying I look 15 I guess.)

Ok, so you are saying it's ok for 15 year olds to write crap, is that right? Well, I noticed that in the two choice blog entries you decided to quote me on, they were written in 2003. TWO THOUSAND FUCKING THREE. That's 8 years ago.

I was EIGHTEEN. A silly teenager.

So what's this about a 28 year old married woman crap? And are you blind or just have some sort of understanding disability? You actually quoted me on your blog post and yet you can still miscontrue what I wrote?

Quote from me:
"I don't want to date someone who is, for example, ugly, because I know he will be criticised to death by blog readers, and I don't think that would feel very good for him." - I didn't want to date someone ugly not because my blog readers would turn on ME but on him.

Next you say I have feuds with people over how "fake" they are. Excuse me but where is your proof? Childish. I don't have feuds with people over their fakeness or otherwise. And then you go on to list how "fake" I am.

Oh wow clever observation - even my nick is fake she says. I suppose YOUR real name is Melissa444?????

Cannot believe she just made a fuss about monikers for bloggers wtf?!

And I NEVER said I will encourage my daughter to do nose surgery. I said I would ALLOW it if she had my old nose. Fucking idiots are always misquoting me!! Super pissed off.

Next up is the little chunk I wrote about Australia. Thanks a lot for taking it out of context. As I said, I was a stupid hormonal teenager when I wrote that. Thank you for digging up stuff I wrote almost a decade ago to justify how I should not be the winner in 2011! It is very reasonable.

I wrote that entry because the guy I liked liked a girl who is studying in Australia. It was all just a joke to persuade him to give up that girl and since I knew nothing else about that girl I had to attack on the "studying in Australia" angle. OMG I cannot believe I have to explain that that childish paragraph was a JOKE! Blah blah herpes etc it's a freaking JOKE, OK! I'm sorry if any Australians are offended - keep in mind I was a stupid teenager when I wrote that.

The ironic thing is that during the Nuffnang Awards I was actually spending the trip with Jessica and her boyfriend Sam who is Australian wtf. I have met loads of Australian friends and I like them.

Of the Aussie bloggers I especially love Chaigyaru and Superkawaiimama, both of whom are always really sweet and nice to me on twitter. I cannot believe that just during the awards I told Chaigyaru that the Aussie blogger community seems so awesome coz they are so supportive of each other and seem to genuinely love blogging - then this happens. -_-

So yes get this Australians - I LIKE YOUR COUNTRY!

But for the rest of you just irrationally pissed off that I won... All I have to say is...

Sorry I'm trying to be like real gracious and stuff but man that was so hard to resist.

p/s: Flying off to USA in two days with freaking two adverts to finish and I have to deal with this crap.

let it rain lyrics article

2011-12-18T05:48:00.000+07:00

It's hard to find the perfect time to say something

you know, is gunna change everything

Living with the shame,

it ain't nothing like the pain that I saw on her face

Now me and my pile of things

that she threw out the window,

Drowning next to me

No seven years of good cant hide the one night I forgot to wear that ring

So let it rain, let it pour, she don't love me anymore,

Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me,

Every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve,

Let it come down on me, let it come down on me, let it rain

last thing I remember was the unfamiliar taste of someone on my lips,

It's to late to turn around,

When the shades start coming down,

The guilt you feels the last thing on your mind

So let it rain, let it pour, if she don't love me anymore,

Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me,

Every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve,

just let it come down on me, let it come down on me, let it rain

So let it rain, let it pour, if she don't love me anymore,

Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me,

every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve, just let it come down on me,

let it come down on me, let it rain,

Ooh let it rain, ooh let it rain, just let it rain, just let it rain, ooh let it rain

In Dance Studio Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were Side-by-Side

2011-12-17T16:25:00.000+07:00

Celebrity News - Closing out the work week with a Big Apple excursion, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were side-by-side in New York City on Friday evening (December 16).

The "Top Gun" stud lovingly held his "Mad Money" wife's hand as the pair trekked over to a local dance studio while braving the wintry east coast weather.
The outing comes as Tom just recently returned to the States following an overseas press tour for his upcoming film "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol".

Of the motion picture, Cruise's co-star Jeremy Renner recently spoke to Movie Line about what he learned from the Hollywood legend.
Renner dished, "He and I have the same work ethic but his just resonates on a higher level because he has done so many action movies and this was just my first one. He set a really high bar for me, which is great, because now the bar is high for the next three action movies that I’ll do."
He added, "I was willing. I trained so that I was able. Tom really got me on a regimen program so I would not get injured. He gave me an analogy that working on these movies was like working as a professional athlete. I took it a step further thinking that in any professional sport, there is a second string that comes in if you get injured. But in cinema, there isn’t a second string Ethan Hunt that rolls in. So we can’t get hurt. Most of the training, outside of learning a discipline like wire practice, was not getting injured.

Because you’re doing things on a wire that your body just isn’t used to doing. It’s all about preparation. It was never a competition or anything — he just set a really high bar to live up to and I gave it a go."

Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Britney Top for MTV Top Song

2011-12-17T15:46:00.000+07:00

Celebrity Gossip - Offering up their take on the best in music over the past twelve months, MTV has debuted their rundown of the Top 25 songs from 2011.

Perched atop the pack is the chart-topping "Rolling In the Deep" from Adele while the single "Vomit" from Girls nabbed runner-up honors with Jay-Z and Kanye West's "N---as in Paris" taking third.

Other big names landing spots in the Top 25 included Lady Gaga, Beyoncé Knowles, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.
Going in depth about their pick of Adele's "Rolling In the Deep" as the top tune of the year, MTV wrote, "Not only the song of the year, it's also quite possibly the song of our time, which is an odd thing to say, considering "Deep" is about as artfully anachronistic as popular music gets: a crackling, breathy thing that roils along on little more than a stubby guitar and some primal pounding, it positively roars to life the second the chorus hits, powered entirely by Adele's prodigious pipes. No Auto-Tune, no mention of partying or material excess (and not even a single Will Ferrell sample), "Deep" is a throwback in every conceivable way to a time when artists actually sang (and sang about real, genuine emotions like sadness and anger), when a single could push an album for months and months at a time and, most of all, when people still bought music. And despite all that, it was still the crossover smash to end all crossover smashes, the song that not only dominated 2011, but defined it, too. Sort of gives you hope ... or makes you realize we truly are living in the strangest of times."
The complete list of MTV's Top 25 songs of 2011 is as follows:
1. Adele, "Rolling in the Deep"
2. Girls, "Vomit"
3. Jay-Z and Kanye West, "N---as in Paris"
4. Lady Gaga, "Heavy Metal Lover"
5. Florence and the Machine, "Shake It Out"

6. Drake, "Take Care"
7. Bright Eyes, "The Ladder Song"
8. Nickelback, "Bottoms Up"
9. Beyoncé, "Love on Top"
10. Britney Spears, "Till the World Ends"
11. Rihanna, "We Found Love"
12. Foster The People, "Pumped Up Kicks"
13. LMFAO, "Party Rock Anthem"
14. Nicki Minaj, "Super Bass"
15. Lil Wayne, "6 Foot 7 Foot"
16. Washed Out, "Eyes be Closed"
17. YACHT, "Dystopia (The Earth Is on Fire)"

2011-12-17T14:54:00.000+07:00

Celebrity Gossip - Putting her breathtaking looks on full display, Kate Beckinsale graces the cover of Flaunt magazine's Issue 118.

The 38-year-old big screen star is featured in a stunning black and white spread adoring the publication's pages while chatting about topics including Hollywood fame and the new "Total Recall" remake.

Highlights from Miss Beckinsale's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Flaunt!
On fame and movie flops in Hollywood:
“Basically, the really big movies that I have done that suck, have, for me, turned out at various crisis points in my life where I think, ‘Shit, I need to make sure I can take care of my kid.’ As simple as that. You know, it’s a weird thing that your hobby, the thing you feel great about, is also the thing that makes you go, ‘Okay, well, I have to be able to pay a mortgage bill.’ It shouldn’t be the case. The bottom line is that will happen sometimes.”

On starring in the new "Total Recall" remake:
“I do think it’s a shame that it’s hard for directors to get an original idea that wasn’t a comic or wasn’t a remake or wasn’t a game or something. I think it’s very frustrating for directors in general and actors. You’re constantly finding yourself having to defend doing a remake when you didn’t really want to make one in the first place.”
