The bathtub for the upstairs bathroom has arrived. It's a heavy beast, cast iron and all. I'm so giddy to have it, but we have a while before we're really ready for it. For now it rests on our front porch in true hillbilly style. I'm sure the neighbors who already hate us are loving this recent addition.

The great crap room clean out and the upstairs bathroom remodel. I'm so excited! The stuff rags, pipes and sawdust were in the floor where Dave opened it up.

Often when people come by and look at the massive work project going on in our yard, I'll offer to take them on a little tour of the new basement. This gives me an opportunity to build goodwill with the neighbors who might be offended by the eyesore that is our yard. I've met some very nice people this way and our project has gained some very enthusiastic supporters. Many people worried that the house would be torn down to make room for condos when it was for sale in 2005. Most people are relieved to hear that we don't plan on making huge alterations that will make the house less of a true representation of the original structure.
I mention this now because in addition to the human visitors to the construction site, Dave found foot prints that show raccoons are also fascinated by the progress. I just hope they don't plan on moving in.

When your pipes freeze it can also cause problems with your bath and shower faucet. For example you may only be able to get cold water and it may become impossible to turn the water off. Luckily Dave is handy enough to fix this, but it did take a while. I was not amused.
For the record, this is the downstairs bathroom, we did not put it in and it will be move and remodeled to better match the house at some point. Just didn't want anyone to think this was representative of our tastes in home decor.

The north yard has been backfilled and Dave set the boys to work collecting large stone from the fill. Our hope is to use these to make a stone wall somewhere in the yard. In the photos under the house, look how much headroom Dave has created! When we started, the best headroom in the basement still caused Dave to bang his head on the floor joists regularly.
