Why do I feel like I am walking around in circles when it comes to finishing my office/craft room???? Right now, I’m trying to actually USE the craft room while trying to DECORATE and ORGANIZE it at the same time! I am definitely walking around in circles. It’s almost as if I don’t know where to start. I’m in desperate need of some craft room storage ideas. So I thought I’d gather some inspiration and hopefully get moving in the right direction!

One storage issue I have is where to put my paint. I have so many bottles of craft paint and I really need a great way to organize and store them. This paint storage shelf is amazing! Becky from Infarrantly Creative  is so talented. Click over and check out the secret behind the shelf! There’s more than what meets the eye…

I want to be organized, but I also want it to be stylish and beautiful. This tiered wire basket idea found at Country Living is a great idea for easy storage. Plus it’s a cool decorative item for the space.  It would look lovely on a craft table or a desk.

The complete organization of this craft room is awesome! This large pegboard from Honey Bear Lane takes care of a multitude of storage and organization issues and makes it look good while doing it!  It gets the supplies off the table or desk and puts them within arm’s reach. Brilliant!

I REALLY WANT THIS CRAFT TABLE!!! I definitely think a craft table like this one from Being Brook is an essential. It is bar height which is great for working on crafts and projects. You can sit or stand without hurting your back. The storage provided by the shelves and cubbies are perfect too. Brook did a beautiful job on this table, using the plans from Ana White.

These ideas are just what I needed to get some inspiration flowing! My problem is that I want it done…right now! But, I know I need to stop and get my thoughts organized before I can get my craft room organized…

Graduation time is among us, which means invitations, caps, gowns, gifts and parties. At the moment I’m in full gear with my daughter’s upcoming graduation but I wanted to share a graduation party that I threw for my son a couple of years ago.

Whenever I plan a party, I always try to plan a theme based on the guest of honor’s likes, hobbies, career, etc. I’m a “party theme” kind of girl. So when it came time to plan my son’s party, it was a no-brainer…he wanted to study film. His life has revolved around movies since he was 12.

Enter “The Graduate”….

Each table was decorated with a movie clapboard, film cases, filmstrip photo frames, movie and graduation confetti and director megaphones. (I removed his name from the clapboards and his face from the pictures. I don’t like to put too much out there!)

Instead of place cards, I created a table game using movie quotes. On the outside of each card was a movie quote. On the inside was the name of the movie. Guests could quiz each other on their movie knowledge. Can you guess what movie this quote is from?

“What momma don’t know won’t hurt her.”    -The Waterboy

I loved the cake. We have an amazing local bakery that does unbelievable cakes! They are gorgeous and delicious! I also ordered personalized napkins with his name and Class of 2011 on them.

The food, cake and gift tables were decorated with red velvet swags. We also had a red carpet for our guests to walk as well as a candy buffet for them to treat themselves to.

(The blue walls of the country club didn’t really go with the red, white and black theme, but I couldn’t ask them to re-paint…it is Kentucky after all…Wildcat blue…)

These great popcorn boxes were the perfect size for guests to get their fill of goodies.

I found various sizes and shapes of glass containers for the candy. I wanted different heights as well, so I used boxes under some red velvet fabric to create risers.

Each treat was given a movie title that somehow represented the type of candy. For example, we had cinnamon disks that we named “Red Heat.” Remember that movie starring Arnold?

He was also in “Twins.” Get it?…M&Ms…

What about this one? They’re root beer sticks. I thought about how the candy had “beer” in the name…so I went with “The Hangover.” Was I stretching it?

Next we have “Twister” for Twizzlers and “Tootsie” for Tootsie Rolls. Of course, I don’t think he’d even seen Tootsie. That’s a bit before his time!

I loved “The Cat in the Hat.”  It was a fun movie and Kit Kats are so good!

And a candy buffet would not be complete without good old Hershey’s chocolate! A little salute to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.“

Don’t forget to get a Hershey’s Kiss and let’s call it “Love Actually.” I loved when Hugh Grant danced down the hallway!

I made two sucker holders out of styrofoam cones that I hot glued to candle holders. I spray painted them red and filled them with black and white striped suckers with personalized labels on them. Hence, one represented the movie, “Stripes.”  The other one was entitled “Sucker Punch.“

All of the jars and containers on the candy buffet were decorated with simple black and white ribbon and round labels that were personalized using the computer.

When planning a movie themed party, just remember to add red velvet swags, a red carpet, movie reel cases, megaphones, clapboards and movie posters. To easily turn it into a graduation party, add some simple graduation touches like graduation confetti, candy and napkins.

By centering the graduation party around “The Graduate” I was able to get the best of both…a graduation party and a movie party!

It was so much fun to plan this party and he loved it! We were able to celebrate his accomplishment and his dream for the future at the same time!

I started by exploring items for the home. I found this great mirror that would look amazing in my half-bath. The shape is interesting and the design is beautiful!

As a mother, I love to receive gifts that are made from the heart and that remind me how special it is to be a mother. Sometimes it’s hard to create a gift that mom can not only use but keep and cherish forever. Martha Stewart crafts makes that easy! This etched glass Mother’s Day vase is the perfect gift for any mom!

I decided to treat myself to a special gift…I created this beautiful glass etched vase, commemorating the years that my children were born. On the front of the vase it says MOTHER and on the back it says EST. 1992, 1995, 1997, 2000.

I love it! I can use it every year at Mother’s Day to create a gorgeous centerpiece for my table. It’s a wonderful keepsake to cherish.

The supply list is simple! You need a glass vase, Martha Stewart Glass Etching Cream and Martha Stewart Self Adhesive Stencils. You can find all your supplies at Michael’s Craft Stores.

The steps are just as simple!

1) Clean your glass vase and wipe it off with some rubbing alcohol.

2) Apply your stencils. Because I needed to use some of my numbers multiple times, I had to do each set of numbers in steps. You may also want to apply painter’s tape around the stencils to make sure the etching cream does not get on other areas of the glass.

3) Apply a layer of etching cream over the stencil. *Be sure not to get it on your skin. You can wear gloves with applying the cream.

4) Wait 15 minutes.

5) Rinse and clean the etching cream off the vase.

6) Remove the stencils.

7) Ta-Da!

A wonderful gift for yourself, a friend or your mother.

As you know, I’ve been working (SLOWLY) on my office/craft room. Will I ever get it done?…I’m trying!

I do not want to show you too much till the final reveal, but I also do not want you to think I’m not accomplishing anything…I’m not lazy…I promise! Therefore, I decided to give you a peek at this easy transformation for a great little accent piece. I bet you have something similar at your home and this makeover is fast and simple!

It’s my Pleated Fabric Covered Stool or probably more appropriately called a “faux” pleated fabric covered stool.

I started with this great little foot stool that I found at Wal-Mart for $14.97. The fabric is not great, but I love the simple design of the piece.

Last week I found this great fabric on sale at Hancock’s Fabric for 50% off of the clearance price and since I only needed a yard, it was a deal. It goes great with my curtains that I made for my office.

After I removed the legs from the stool, I began re-covering it by stapling the fabric on each side. I didn’t bother removing the original fabric. Remember this is quick and easy!

Next I began gathering the fabric and “folding” it as I went, creating a “pleated” look. I stapled each fold. You’ll want to play around with this a little to get the look you want. You may also need to remove a couple of the original 4 staples as you go, to evenly space your folds. If you do, just remove the staple with a screwdriver or pliers, create the new fold and re-staple.

Once the entire stool was covered, I cut off the excess fabric.

I love the faux pleated look created by simple folding the fabric!

For the legs, I used a mixture of this Gold Metallic Paint and Glazing Medium from DecoArt. I mixed equal parts together and brushed the color on using a foam brush.

After the gold had dried, I decided I wanted a little more of a patina look, so I added a little DecoArt Silver Metallic. I brushed it on and then took a rag to wipe it back off.

This is the finished look of the legs. I really like the mix of the gold and silver.

I put the legs back on the stool and I love the result!

For now, it sits in front of my desk. It’s so cute! The pop of color is great.

It could be used as extra seating or simply a great place to prop up your feet.

Personally…I just like to look at it!
