Noord Nederlands Orkest plays ‘A tribute to Armin van Buuren’

In 2010, the Oosterport venue in Groningen was shaking at its foundations. The Noord Nederlands Orchestra played a special concert, dedicated to no one less than Armin van Buuren. They made special classical arrangements of Armin’s biggest hits and it was one of the few times that the visitors got our of their chairs and started dancing. More than 100.000 people tuned into the the live-stream of the night. And guess what? The Orchestra is going to do it all over again!
Due to the tremendous success, NNO decided to take the tribute in reprise and present another night. Esspecially for this concert, they made two new arrangements, of Armin’s ‘This Light Between Us’ and ‘Not Giving Up On Love’. On February 23rd, ‘A Tribute To Armin van Buuren’ strikes down in the Oosterport venue in Groningen once again. All chairs will be removed, and supported by a spectacular laser and sound program, the classical concert will turn into a real dance event.

Twitter to host concert of Tiësto

HP and Intel will be hosting the first-ever live stream of a concert on Twitter next week at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. The headliner: electronic music master DJ Tiësto.

The concert will kick off the launch of a new 10-episode series on YouTube called “In the Booth” — a behind-the-scenes look at how Tiësto uses technology to make music and connect with fans. The private event at the nightclub XS at Encore in Las Vegas will stream live from HP and Intel’s newly enhanced Twitter brand pages.

Tiësto will play a 90-minute set starting at 10:00 p.m. PT. It will then play on a loop on HP and Intel’s Twitter page for the following 48 hours.

“We have offered streaming on the site before, but this is the first-time ever that the site will feature a live concert,” Rob Pietsch, Twitter’s director of West Coast sales, told Mashable. “HP came to us with the idea and we couldn’t be more excited to hear how the company and Intel will be using their Twitter brand pages to reach out to the public and become destination sites.

“It’s a first for us, and we expect in the future that more companies will integrate streaming video into their pages.”

In December, Twitter announced that it would be introducing Facebook-style brand pages for companies to customize and highlight content. HP and Intel are among the first 21 brands invited to test out the new platform – other companies include Dell, Disney, JetBlue, Nike and Paramount Pictures.

The company said it expects to make the new brand pages for companies more widely available by the end of the first quarter of 2012.

Twitter users will also be able to interact with others on the site while watching the live stream next week. HP and Intel execs will also be live tweeting from the show via the hash tag #TiestoLive.

“This will change the way fans interact with brands on the site. Companies can tell fans to check out their pages and features by saying @HP or @Intel, instead of giving a long URL that doesn’t roll off the tongue,” Pietsch said.

“In addition, this is a concept that isn’t even available on Facebook, since it’s a closed community. Here, anyone can watch the live stream and chat with anyone else with the same interests. We expect to see some powerful things come out of brand pages in the future.”

The Web series – produced by Believe Entertainment Group – will launch Tuesday, Jan. 17 on YouTube and each video will be between five and seven minutes long.

“I’m always connecting with my fans directly through Twitter and other social media, so this was an exciting way to help launch the show and do something special for my fans,” DJ Tiësto told Mashable. “One of the key reasons to collaborate with technology giants such as HP and Intel on my new show is the chance to try new things and go after big ideas.”

HP and Intel said they both plan to expand their brand presence on Twitter this year by offering new ways for fans to engage with their companies.

“Twitter was the perfect platform for us to try out an innovative new concept with DJ Tiësto and allow people to interact with our brand at the same time,” said Natalie Malaszenko, director of worldwide digital marketing & social Media for HP Personal Systems Group. “We have had great success with Twitter before and very high engagement rates, so we hope to do a lot more through our branded profile page in the future.”

Amy Winehouse, 27, Found Dead

Hendrix, Cobain, Morrison, Winehouse-- all dead at the age of 27. Grammy award winning Amy Winehouse, with hits "Rehab", “Valerie” and “Love Is a Losing Game,” was found dead in her flat in Camden Square London according to police reports.
Over the past few years, Winehouse struggled with drugs, including smoking crack cocaine. In 2008, then 24 years old, Winehouse was diagnosed with emphysema, according to her father Mitch in an interview with Britain's Daily Mail. She had been warned by doctors that she would die from this incurable disease if she did not stop her drug habits. Her recent attempts at a tour were disastrous, stumbling across the stage, fogetting lyrics, booed by fans.
Police have not released details of her death at this time. More details will be added when they are known.

continents in compilation titles has long been a dance artist's way in highlighting the places that they've felt the strongest newfound pressure. India's club fraternity may rightfully have been wondering when their first nod would come. Volume 7 of "In Search Of Sunrise" already went wide angle on the Asian continent at large. And now it's the series' new crusader Richard Durand that's zoomed the lens in to that motherland of the mystic, India!
Richard silenced the shouldn't/couldn't/wouldn't brigade with the critical and commercial success of his IDMA nominated In Search Of Sunrise 8: South Africa album last year. Durand then took his ISOS sound and vision on tour and completed the expedition with a freshly minted radio show. Having generated his own brand of the titular heat at the country's Sunburn festival late last year, he knew where his second sun would rise.
Kicking off appropriately enough with the latest from India's Lost Stories, CD01 builds its way through new Pulser, Alex O'Rion and Zoo Brazil material, culminating in Richard's latest track off the desk, "Run To You". Sied van Riel's 'Rielism' is out now!

Ranked for the last two years as one of hundred hottest DJs on the planet, Sied van Riel is ready to uncover his new compilation expedition. Featuring a brand new sound design and featuring exclusive tracks and remixes from respected luminaries like BT, Tiësto’s Allure project, Richard Durand, Lange and tyDi, the album also packs in the latest floor-ware from the scene’s fast-risers - Arty, Daniel Kandi, Setrise and Akira Kayosa among them. Make no mistake, 'Rielism' is about to drop…

"With Rielism I want to get across what kind of sounds and range I’m standing for now", says Van Riel. "In what I guess is a short space of time, there has been a tangible change in what I’m about musically. This isn’t ‘In Riel Time 2′ (Sied’s last compilation) under a different name, it’s something new and quite contrasting. It’s intended to be more multiuse – something where I think people can drop a disc on straight outta work, as well as on their way to the club".

Disc 1 starts off around 127 bpm, with smoothly percussive, atmospheric house with a progressive bias (and in the truest sense of the word). Forward-looking and future-proofed, the ice-cool flow of Chris Domingo & Derek James’ "Call Waiting", Danny Chen’s "Oceanside" and Zack Roth’s "Silver Of Blue" start to lay out ‘Rielism’s‘ schematic.

As it leaves the overture phase Sied begins to gradually build both tone and tempo, drawing in dynamic tracks from big name artists. "The Light In Things" – the new single from BT and JES’ and Allure’s "Mariestad" (which features Swede house hero Henrik B) send Disc 1′s stock soaring, as do LNG’s latest outing "Harmony Will Kick Your Ass" and Sied’s most recent co-op with Claudia Cazacu, "Lights Off".

With the first disc remaining largely instrumental, Disc 2 is where the big vocals rule. Chloe Langley calling, poignant turn on Simmons & Blanc’s "State Of Emergency", Emma Lock’s electro-lined vox on Ronski Speed’s "U Got Me", Arty and Tania Zygar instantly massive "The Wall" and his own "Stealing Time" (featuring American newcomer Nicole McKenna) provide the vocal waypoints of the mix.

Lifting toward the 136 bpm mark, ‘Rielism’ guns it, in a final flurry of club afterburners. Skytech’s spin on Juventa’s "Dionysia", Richard Durand’s "Airwell", Webster and Baker’s "Chainsaw" and MEM’s "Illumination" all collectively throw the mix’s main endorphin switch.

Queensday 2011 in Amsterdam

The biggest part is announced of the line-up of the 538 Queensdayfestival at the Museumsquare in Amsterdam. Amongst others Armin van Buuren, Sander van Doorn and Sidney Samson are present on Saturday the 30th of April between 12:00 and 21:00 CET. This year Armin van Buuren will close the event!
Koninginnedag (Queensday) is always a highlight of the year in Amsterdam. Not neccesarily for trance, but certainly for the massive parties everywhere in the streets in the whole center. Every year about 500,000 people from outside Amsterdam visit the night before and about 1,000,000 people on the day itself. There are a few places with big stages and famous (Dutch) artists, but there are unknown DJ's playing about everywhere you can imagine. Every street (or canal) has at least one DJ booth and sometimes even 3 or 4. I'm coming there now for over 15 years and I haven't missed a single time. There's only one thing: you mustn't stay sober hahaha.

Armin van Buuren moved his Ibiza residency to Space

This year, Armin van Buuren is giving up his Ibiza residency at Amnesia – widely seen as not only the best club on the island, but also the best club on the planet - where he had his own Armada Night for many years, to Space Ibiza. Armin will have an exclusive residency at Space Ibiza for the whole summer, playing at the Wednesday night BE events. Every Wednesday night, the main room is reserved for all Armin van Buuren's exclusive dates at Space Ibiza, presented by Alda Events and Space Ibiza. Armin van Buuren's Wednesday night event has the opening on June 29th and does take place every Wednesday night for the whole season. Including the great music from some of the world’s top name DJ's, visitors can expect fantastic shows from some of the best event managers in the business. Space will be taken up to new levels of wonder.
Armin was recently voted the No.1 DJ in the world for the 4th consecutive year in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll – the main poll of a DJ’s current popularity. Every week he will play at Space Ibiza and will be joined at BE by a number of massive guests during the summer. Other top 10 DJ's that are under the wings of manager David Lewis, like Gareth Emery and Markus Schulz will also be making several appearances at BE, and the same counts for Jerome Isma-Ae from Germany. Other up and coming artists from the David Lewis Productions, such as EDX, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano will be playing on the terrace, with Spanish house DJ Wally Lopez and Dutch DJ Fedde Le Grand.
There will also be a number of other exciting surprise guests making appearances over the coming months, the details of which will be released nearer the launch time.
“After a number of fantastic years at Amnesia, I’m really looking forward to my first season at Space this summer,” Armin said. “I’m really proud and honoured to work with such an established brand as Space. It’s every DJ’s dream to play in a club like this. It fits my sound perfectly. For me, it’s the next step in my career and I’m really looking forward to the summer!”
Space will open its doors on May 29th, a month later will be the first of Armin’s new residency on June 29th. August the 10th will be a special date, when Armin will play all night long by himself in the main room. On September 7th there will be a special A State Of Trance night and BE will be closed a week later on September 14th. The official closing party of Space itself is on October 2nd.

2011 Ultra Music Festival Sold Out

Promoters for the Ultra Music Festival, the annual outdoor electronic music festival that takes place in Miami, FL, have announced tickets are no longer available. This year marks the festival's debut as a three-day event--happening Friday, Mar. 25, Saturday Mar. 26 and Sunday, Mar. 27--since its inception in 1999.
The show's SOLD OUT status certainly speaks volumes about concertgoers' strong demand for the electronic music genre as well as mainstream artists influenced by it. Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Single on ‘Glee’

Lady Gaga’s new track “Born This Way” hasn't been realesed to the public yet, but the cast of “Glee”is already planning on singing it in an upcoming episode.
Co-creator of 'Glee' Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that Gaga’s new song will most likely be featured on an epidsode that’ll air in March or April. According to MTV News, the show will focus on a gay bully Karofsky (Max Adler), a football player in denial of his sexuality, who has been attacking Kurt in the latest episode. Murphy stated that he chose Gaga’s new track because of its "inspirational vibe."
The "Born This Way" single is expected to debut this February, with the entire album being relaeased on May 23, 2011.

It’s been my pleasure to have you all part of the show, without you guys the show would never have been such a success. Mirage is the biggest project I’ve ever done. The event in Utrecht, that was sold out a month in advance, was set up to make it as much of an innovative experience as possible.

Tiesto's classic Nyana mix compilation re-released!

It's always a good thing when a long out of print album or mix compilation sees a proper re-release. The seminal “Nyana” mix compilation by Tiësto fits the description. Hailed by all his fans from the very first day of its release and now finally available again. Black Hole Recordings went to great lengths for this re-release which now features the two original, continuous DJ mixes plus all titles in their unedited and unmixed format. Most fans still know that Tiësto voyaged to South Africa in early 2003 for a trip that led to the recording of Nyana. The double disc mix compilation is swamped with stylish trance beats and tinges of world inflections for one of Tiësto's more sophisticated moments. Disc one starts the party with bright melodies and hypnotic sound scapes that are nicely tailored for an outdoor crowd, and Tiësto's skill in switching tempos and moods captures an emotional atmosphere. His mix with such classics as Junkie XL's "Obsession”, Conjure One featuring Sinéad O'Connor's “Tears From The Moon” or Ton TB's “Electronic Malfunction” is a vibrant juncture, while the title track and The Gift's "Love Angel" operate on pinch-hitting trance loops and heavy synth beats.

Disc two is much more concentrated behind the decks for a soothing, indoor vibe. Choppy vocals thrive in the techno haze of Holden & Thompson's "Nothing." Other select cuts that perfectly round out this glossy second set are Motorcycle's “As The Rush Comes”, Young Parisians with “U Write The Rules”, The Roc Project featuring Tina Arena with “Never” and Leama's “Requiem For A Dream”. Completely going beyond the flash of Ibiza, the design of Nyana soars with a unique energy without sounding processed.

It's mix compilations like these that not just defined trance as we know it today, but also established a quality standard that only a few managed to reach. Tiësto has never been one to follow a trend and Nyana is proof of his ever-changing skin as an artist.

Not Giving Up On Love is a joint venture between British pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren. It was released as the second single taken from Ellis-Bextor’s fourth studio album, “Straight to the Heart”, and the second from Van Buuren’s new album “Mirage”. It will be released digitally worldwide on 20th August 2010.
The video was shot in Ibiza, Spain by British director Sophie Muller. The video-shooting took place in San Antonio and the Amnesia Club between the 1st and the 3rd of August, 2010. It was premiered on August 17, 2010 and features the radio edit.
