With the Colts not re-signing Freddie Keihao and Tyjaun Hagler, should they start bringing in new ones in the draft?

Absolutely not!

Why bring James Laurenitis, like the NFL Network suggested in their mock draft, when they can bring back this important linebacker: Cato June?

Now that Reggie Wayne might be the number one target, it will be hard running the offense because everyone will be ganging up on him. Manning has to throw to Roy Hall, Pierre Garcon, or Anthony Gonzalez (see Breaking Down the Colts Pt. 3). Still, it will be tough for them to get the ball because they really aren't masters of the playbook like Harrison and Wayne.

And speaking of Harrison...why can't we bring him back? This guy is a legend to the Colts, and no one is interested in the soon-to-be 37-year-old wide receiver who still has something left in the tank.

Continue reading "Should the Colts Bring Back Cato June Marvin Harrison and Dominic Rhodes"

By now we've all heard the story and probably seen the video. Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats was driving his family to the Baylor Regional Medical Center in the Dallas Suburb of Plano, to make it to see his mother-in-law as she was in critical condition. She was suffering from breast cancer, and they had been told she didn't have much time. Moats put on his hazards, and by his account rolled through a red light after making sure the way was clear. Officer Robert Powell was parked nearby and attempted to pull him over. Moats continued to drive a short distance to the hospital, as Powell pursued. As he pulled up near the entrance of the hospital, the family jumped out of the car. Officer Powell instructed them to get back in the car, but Moats wife Tamishia and another family member ran inside. Ryan Moats tried explaining the situation to Officer Powell, who over the course of the next thirteen minutes would not listen, and herein lies the controversy.

Continue reading "Ryan Moats You Are a Better Man Than Me"

As football fans across the globe cast their longing eyes in the direction of the April draft, I decided that now might be a good time to reflect on draft classes of the last 10 years. Too often in this business, we rush ahead to the next big event without taking pause to evaluate the past and learn from it. In a way, this study will still be a celebration of the coming 2009 draft as I believe it will shed some light on certain overlooked trends that no one ever stops to consider. I will begin with a class by class showdown of sorts at the quarterback position over the last 10 drafts. This is part III in the series:

Read the rest here:

http://theghostwriter.today.com/2009/02/28/nfl-quarterback-draft-class-

Continue reading "NFL Quarterback Draft Class Showdown 2004 vs 2003"

I have been watching college basketball since the age of on and have seen some really good college players fail miserably in the NBA. This mock draft is my own version of who I think should take who. 1) Sacramento Kings- This pick has to go to Blake Griffin, unless you want to turn into the Houston Texans with the Super Mario pick over Reggie Bush. Blake Griffin has talent surpassing Michael Beasley last year and anyone I can think of in the years past. With that size and speed he will be a good look to take some pressure off rising superstar Kevin Martin. 2) Oklahoma City Thunder- I really can see them getting Hasheem Thabeet. They have Durant who can fire the ball and Westbrook to deliver all they need is a true, good big man to help them out. Robe
Continue reading "The New Hope for Bad Teams"

This Purple Crew fan/blogger just read on ESPN.com that reports say the Vikes are in the process of completing a trade for Sage Rosenfels of the Texans? If this isn't true, please disregard and I will thank my lucky stars. If this is true and does happen, I will lose faith in Spielman, Childress, and company until there is a regime change. Rosenfel? What happened to (1) #5 (McNabb) that sent a clear signal with his delaying signing an extension until he knows their plan for winning, short term! he hasn't bought what the Eagles are selling. (2) Cassel in NE is not a signed sealed deal with him being a back up. Also, (3) paramount there is Garcia which is an awesome two year plan, until a long term plan is achieved. BUT no! Rosenfels.....?? Please tell me it isn't so Purple Crew brass! I am sorry, but if this becomes reality, a lot of loyal and patient fans are going to bail on the 2009 season. Sage would have to play out of his gord to get fans to buy into it. I think back to the game last season where he pretty much gave a game away to the opposition single handed. Please Purple Brass, tell me it ain't so!!

Continue reading "Please tell me it isnt SO"

To no surprise, the Patriots attached the franchise tag to QB Matt Cassel. And in even less of a no-brainer, Cassel accepted the one-year tender of $14.6 million.

Don't go shopping for that fleet of candy apple red Hummers yet, Cassel. You'll get paid, just don't expect the sum you signed for.

New England tagged him with a non-exclusive franchise tag, meaning Cassel and his agent are free to negotiate a long-term contract with any team. If a team signs Cassel, that team owes the Patriots two first round draft picks.

The Pats will never get two first round picks from any team for Cassel. But the door is wide open for trade offers.

This situation feels like a matter of "when" not "if" Cassel gets traded. All signs indicate Tom Brady will be ready for the season opener. When you have a two-time Super Bowl MVP and the 2007 league MVP returning healthy, even from a serious injury, do you really need insurance like Cassel? It would be a hell of a luxury, but the reality is the Patriots won't be able to afford to pay two QBs starter's money and fortify a team that lacks depth at linebacker and corner back.

Continue reading "Cassel Your Tag is Showing"

Now that I’ve had some time to cool off, I can now address the Chicago Bears’ heart-breaking loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday. Chicago entered Sunday’s must-win contest with two possible scenarios to make it into the playoffs. If they won and Minnesota lost to the Giants, the Bears would claim the division title and host a wild-card game. If the Vikings won, the Bears could still make it in as a wild-card with losses from Dallas and Tampa Bay. Minnesota ended up beating New York with a last-second field goal, Tampa Bay ended up losing a fist-fight with the Raiders of all teams, and Dallas fell into despair thanks to the Eagles in the afternoon game. Of course, all of these possibilities required a Bears win in Houston that never happened. Lovie Smith’s crew never showed the desperation and intensity you would expect of a team fighting to make it into the post-season.

Continue reading "Bears Season Ends in Houston"

From Week 12 to Week 15 the Houston Texans showed great poise and determination. They started a 4-game winning streak in Cleveland in a defensive battle. Not overly impressive, but a win is a win in the National Football League. The team then dominated a displaced looking Jacksonville Jaguars team at home in the first Monday Night game in franchise history.

Still...not overly impressive.

Week 14 came and the Texans flew into frosty Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. A Packers team that hasn't played well most of the season, but anytime you play in a historic stadium like Lambeau and in single digit temperatures....it's going to be tough!

Matt Schaub returned from his MCL injury suffered during the road game at the Vikings (Nov.2nd) and threw for a franchise-record 414 passing yards in the freezing temperatures. The headline following the game on the 'YahooN! Fantasy Sports' page called Schaub a "Cool Customer". Accurate to the tee! Despite the 400+ yard day for Schaub, the Texans turned the ball over 4 times. Most times that would equal a loss in the record books, but the Packers didn't play good football. They scored all of their 21 points off Texans turnovers. Houston escaped with a 24-21 victory with a game-winning field goal from kicker Kris Brown.

Nation Lampoons Christmas vacation. But back to the Notre dame game. I had my Green Brady Quinn jersey on all day waiting for 8 PM kick off. The games first drive was a little nerve racking. Then We hit the end-zone. I with the first touchdown knew then we where in for a good game. The second touchdown iced my nerves. When Hawaii first scored I was not worried a bit. As the Irish where cruising at this point of the game. Even at 14-7 I was happy. Then we Had the Kick off return Game was over but boy was I enjoying my tv choices. Notre Dame had pressure on the Quarterback and Jimmy Clausen looked comfortable. Something he has not done in a while. Only bad side was the punt return for a TD called back due to a roughing the kicker penalty.

Continue reading "Merry Christmas mine came a little earlylol"

Week 16 is off and rolling as the NFL season continues to wind down. Due to a busy schedule and some internet difficulties I was not able to bring you a Week 15 prediction post. But have no fear I'm back this week with a Week 16 post (yip yip hooray!) I went a miserable 1-3 in Week 14. With the season winding down, theirs several big games with playoff implications on the line. So without further a due....let's take a look at the games and predictions of the week.

Overall Record: 21-19
Week 14 Record: 1-3

1) Houston Texans @ Oakland Raiders

The Houston Texans were officially eliminated from the playoffs at the end of Week 15 to no surprise after the shaky first half of the season, but faded playoff hopes hasn't kept the team down the past 4 weeks as they've played tough defense and good football overall. In the last 4 weeks the Texans have defeated (in order): Browns, Jaguars, Packers, Titans. Okay the Browns and Jaguars isn't too big of a deal, but going into Lambeau and dominating the Packers and then coming home and defeating the first place team and rival the Titans? That's a statement. This should be a layup for the Texans this week as they go into Oakland to face the 3-11 Raiders. A loss would be very disappointing for a team that has won 4 straight. I take the Texans in this one as they'll win their 5th straight game (hopefully).

Continue reading "NFL Week 16 Predictions"
