Miss Chugiak-Eagle River Shaves Her Head

No, no. She didn't pull a "Britney." Debbe Ebben, Miss Chugiak-Eagle River (Alaska) shaved her head in the name of Children's cancer research. She'd made a promise to all of the people who donated that she'd shave her head, and she stood by that promise! Props to her! I really believe that this girl's inner beauty creates her outer beauty. She has already raised over $4,000 dollars, and this is just the beginning for her.

"You're proving it's OK to be bald regardless of whether you chose to be or not," Ebben said.

She is still considering whether or not she should grow her hair out in time to compete for Miss Alaska, but she isn't too concerned about it. According to Ebben, it doesn't matter if she has real hair or not by the time pageant time rolls around. She said she doesn't think having a shaved head will hurt her chances of winning.

"It's my job as a title holder to make a really bold statement, and to be someone that people can look up to, and make an impact on the community. And that was really why I fell in love with it. It was something that was different. It was something that was unique. It was something that I could do and accomplish in a community and was something that everyone could get involved with."

I just really think this girl is great! :)

Now, on another note, have you guys seen Miss Russia?? Her hair is seriously Rapunzel length! Totally gorgeous!

I just thought I'd post a few things from the 90's. The good, the bad, the hilarious. Just everything. Ready for a blast from the past??? Here we go.....

A razor that dispenses shaving cream and moisturizers??? HECK YEAH! :)

I received my FREE VoxBox and have begun reviewing my free full-sized products. So far, my favorite is this awesome razor. By the way, in case you don't know what a VoxBox is, read the following paragraph from my most recent post. (Otherwise, skip ahead!)

So I tried my new razor last night, and I'm not kidding, I actually said, "Wow" about 20 times while shaving! The box claims that you do not need any shaving cream to go along with the razor, as the razor will supply enough moisture. I was skeptical, so, being a science nerd, I decided to create a constant and a variable to accurately review and test this product. (you're welcome! haha)

First, I used the razor on my right leg. I called this the "constant" because I was testing the shave with only the razor. I was pretty amazed. As I shaved, the razor not only supplied enough moisture to give me a very comfortable shave, but it also left my skin feeling very moisturized! There are five blades on this razor, so my leg ended up very smooth! I was impressed, but I wondered, "If I use regular moisturizing shaving cream along with the razor, will my legs be even softer and smoother?".....

So here comes the variable, my left leg. I applied shaving cream, and began shaving my leg. When I was finished, I felt both of my legs. They were equally smooth, proving that the razor does, in fact, provide plenty of moisture, just as much as if I had put moisturizing shaving cream all over my legs.

This is now the only razor I will ever buy! I didn't know they could be so high-tech. :)

Now, here's more info about it in case you'd like to know. By the way, this razor is available in stores as of today! Good timing, huh? :)

I recently received my very first VoxBox. It's really awesome! So that's my free stuff. Full size products! I got some herbal tea, a chocolate bar, (which I LOVE) nail designs, Truvia zero-calorie sweetener and a Gillette razor! My husband checked the mail the day I got this. He said, "Alicia, you've been shopping online!" I said,"Actually no! It's free!!!!" Now those are words my husband LOVES to hear. :) Okay, so I haven't had a chance to review each product yet, so stay tuned. By the end of the week, I'll have each review for you. I have tried the chocolate though. It's pretty much Heaven in a wrapper. :)

While we're on the topic of free stuff.....

Let's start with the earrings! My husband bought those for me. He picked them out and everything! I was SO impressed! Aren't they neato dorito??? :)

And see this scarf I wore in my hair today? That was free too! It came on a purse that my mom bought for me. I thought it would look much cuter in my hair than on the purse! :)

My sister sent me a link to this website, RevolveClothing.com. I have to say, it is easy to get carried away on this site. Most everything is out of my price range, but it's fun to look at everything anyway, and get ideas for similar outfits to buy somewhere else. And even if I ever do have lots of expendable money, you won't catch me ever spending $200 on a dress or a pair of shorts. Nope. Not happening! :) But take a look at these clothes. They're pretty awesome. (and SOME are affordable!)

Words cannot describe how awesome this dress is. And unfortunately, the only word I ever use to describe anything I like is "awesome." It's time to expand my vocabulary!

I'd look terrible in these, but one of you can buy them and look good in them. :)

I'd wear this out for dinner in Mexico....a safe part of Mexico on a resort, that is! It's sad how dangerous things are getting over there right now. Last time my husband and I visited, we saw the Mexican police with their huge rifles, standing in the back of a truck at a red light. I know those were the good guys, but let me tell you, it was SCARY! And all the crazy gang initiation stuff going on over there right now just freaks me out and makes me so sad for the people being killed. :( Wow. I sure know how to go on a rant out of nowhere!! lol

Amazing Apple Pie Bites

Recipe type: Dessert

Author: Sara @ Budget Savvy Diva

Prep time: 10 mins

Cook time: 13 mins

Total time: 23 mins

Serves: 16

Simple Bite Size Apple Pies

Ingredients

◦ 1/2 cup sugar

◦ 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

◦ 1 package refrigerated pie pastry

◦ 2 tablespoons butter, melted

◦ 2 medium tart apples – peeled – I cut about 16 slices

Instructions

1. Combine sugar and cinnamon

2. Set Aside a 1 Tablespoon of the mixture

3. Unroll Pastry and brush on 1 Tablespoon of Butter and sprinkle sugar mixture.

4. Place Apple Slices into the bowl with the rest of the sugar mixture – and mix.

5. Cut the pastry into strips — about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long.

6. Wrap one strip around each apple wedge, placing sugared side of pastry against the apple.

7. Place “pies” on parchment paper lined baking sheet. Brush on the remaining butter and sprinkles with the rest of the sugar mixture.

8. Bake at 425 for 10 – 13 minutes or till golden brown.

Now, when I fixed this myself, I didn't exactly follow the recipe. I fixed just enough for 2 people, and I used LOTS of sugar and cinnamon, enough to give someone a heart attack. ha Also, I made the pieces all bite size. I cut the apples into little chunks, not slices, and pretty much rolled them into balls of dough. The result was yummy extra crispy, sugary apple pie bites. I'm sure her recipe is great too, but if you feel like breaking the rules, mine worked pretty well too. :)

This girl has got IT! Ya know, that thing that just makes you love her??? She's quirky, funny, cute and stylish. Even when she's dressed dark, she makes herself look like a porcelain doll. Her hair and clothes are quite inspiring, so here are some fun pictures for you to look at! Doesn't she make you wanna go brunette and clip in a TON of extensions so you can have super-thick hair too??? :) I wish I had those big blue eyes! I have to fake having big eyes, and lemme tell you, it is time consuming!!!

Spiders=My Biggest Fear

Do you know what scares me more than ANYTHING??? Spiders. And guess what? Yahoo News just brought my fear to its highest point....

This is actually not snow.....It's spiders webs!!!!

This is not a picture from the farm pictured above. It's actually a picture from the middle East, where spiders have done this same thing after a flood. Read on for more info....

Crazy things are happening on an Australian farm in New South Wales. Flooding has caused thousands of spiders to migrate from their homes, up into nature! Trees, plants everything! Not only did most residents of this town have to temporarily move, but so did many wolf spiders. Wolf spiders normally live underground, but of course, during flooding, living underground is impossible, and that is where this "ballooning" has come from. Yes, "ballooning" is a real term, used when spiders create a new habitat made completely of webs, until their natural home is safe to return to.

As creepy as it is, it's also pretty clever of the little guys. They formed their own little, or I guess I should say big city, to live in until their old home is safe again.

Don't hate me. I'm gonna be honest. I just don't care to watch the Oscars. BUT I do like to see what everyone is wearing, if it's really cute or crazy. :) So I picked some of my fav looks....

Okay, Posh spice, yeah, I still call her that, is too skinny! Annnnnd too serious! But look how pretty Katie looks! I love her dress and her cute bangs. I just cut my bangs like that this morning. :) I'm a spur of the moment kinda girl. :)

Ten Pounds GONE! :)

Guess who lost ten pounds???? Me!!!! I'm super excited! I want to lose another ten, and I feel like I'm well on my way. I'm so happy and so excited! I promised you guys I'd weigh in today and give you the verdict. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous, but the scale verified all the hard work I've done, and now I feel even more motivated to continue! I now weigh 131 pounds, down from 141 just a few weeks ago. :) I'm 5' 7'' and have a pretty slim frame anyway, but I know I can take myself down a few more pounds. My old jeans are all starting to fit just right again. In fact, I'm wearing a pair of my old jeans today. :) Thanks everyone, for keeping me motivated. I'll definitely keep you updated on the loss of my next 10 pounds!

Now of course, you have to wonder in a few of the "after" pictures, was there any photoshop or plastic surgery involved?

Did Kim's butt actually shrink this much??? If it is real, then that's some motivation! She gives credit to QuickTrim, the diet pills she is paid to endorse. Here are some before and afters of Kim.

She's pretty either way, but the point of me posting these pictures is to prove a little point. She was pretty before any procedures. She had more of a foreign and mysterious look before, don't you think?

Kate said she started losing her baby-weight by counting calories. Starting with baby steps is a good idea because it doesn't make you feel overwhelmed.

Beautiful things, and my Weight-Loss Journey

This is such a pretty hairstyle, and I love the contrast of her roots and the dark underneath.

Well, many of you have been keeping up with my diet. These past few days, breakfast has consisted of protein, usually eggs. Lunch every day has been grilled chicken, but changed up in little ways. One day I had it with salad, and the salad was a vinaigrette spritz-on dressing, and it was so good! Another day, I seasoned the chicken with crushed red pepper and had some grapes with it. Often, I have found myself getting full on just the chicken. :) Dinner varies, but usually lots of green vegetables, turkey or chicken, and blueberries for dessert. Last night, I tried turkey bacon. It was disgusting, but hey, at least I gave it a try! One thing I'm avoiding pretty much altogether is bread. Eventually, I'll have it again in small amounts, but for now, I'm cutting the carbs.

I am SURVIVING this healthy eating diet! I am not starving, which I keep thinking I'll feel like, but so far, I really am surviving and feeling fine! Sundays have been deemed my "cheat" day. But that doesn't mean I get to binge or eat anything crazy fattening. I had a few oatmeal cookies yesterday, and that counted as my "cheating." Cheating should never mean going crazy and eating all the things you've been craving. That's a quick way to spiral right back into old bad eating habits! I've found that as long as I'm drinking tea with artificial sweeteners like Splenda, I feel like I'm satisfying my sugar craving, so I don't crave real desserts. Also, when I go to some of my favorite restaurants, I try something healthy on the menu instead of the crap I normally order, and guess what? It's good! I'm annoyed that I scared myself out of eating healthy for so long, when it's really actually not bad at all. I feel better and look better. I even bought a new swimsuit this morning! :) It was 50% off!!! :)

I stepped on the scale this morning and was amazed.....

I will be revealing how much weight I've lost on Friday. I'm shooting for a few more pounds lost by Friday, but I'm quite pleased with my progress, and extremely motivated

to continue! I still have quite a ways to go though, and I know it will get harder. Please cross your fingers for me and pray. :)

Vintage clothes, shoes and accessories are so easy to find! ThriftTown even has a section just for vintage clothes, and the best part is, hardly anything is priced over $5.

Plastic Furniture?.....

Honestly, I'm not quite sure if I would actually buy plastic furniture, but I've gotta say, it is a bit intriguing. Fab.com has all sorts of cool crazy things. I originally visited the website because I was slightly interested in buying some pet jellyfish. I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but they would make pretty cool pets, to look at anyway. I would just have to tell my niece she can't pet them! :) She has a "jellyfish" tank I bought her for Christmas. She thinks the jellyfish are real because they "swim" around the tank, so I let her pet them, pretending of course that they are nice jellyfish. Gotta love 3-year-olds. :)

Getting Skinny, cute clothes and creepy KID PAGEANTS!.....random. :)

We're coming up on the last few days of mine and my dad's weight-loss competition, so I'm getting MUCH more serious now. (not that I haven't been pretty serious this whole time)

I will now be posting everything I ate the day before:breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I was bad and strayed off course, please yell at me. :) Thank you. :) SERIOUSLY. :)

Yesterday: Breakfast: Fruit cup - apple slices, mandarin oranges, grapes and strawberries.
Lunch: Lean grilled chicken with mustard for flavor. Mustard is SO yummy!
Dinner: Tortilla soup with unsweet tea to drink. (I let the cheese sink to the bottom and avoided it. I forgot to ask for no cheese) Also, I didn't put the chips in it. Tortilla soup can still be good without the tortilla. :)
Everything else I drank was water, and LOTS of it!

Wish me luck with my healthy eating today! I did some early morning shopping for healthy food, and I'm excited about learning to love eating healthy. :)

Oh, guess what???? I wore this really cute dress for the first time today. It's been in my closet for almost a year, with the tags and all. I never wanted to wear it, because it wasn't flattering to my waistline, but since I've been losing weight, I tried it on, and it looks GREAT! My stomach is getting thinner and flatter. It is the best feeling ever. I just keep reminding myself that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!

Ignore the weird shadows! You've probably noticed most of my pictures are taken in these funky mirrors. They're the only ones we have here at work. Anyway, isn't this dress cute? I finally feel comfortable wearing it! Yea! :)

Whether you're married, single, whatever, every girl should own some sexy lingerie. It's fun to wear, just knowing that you look sexy under your clothes. Everyone should feel sexy every now and then, if not all the time. It's not about parading it around for people to see. It's about knowing you are a sexy fox! :)

Now for my rant.....

This is not attractive. When and how did it become cool to wear see-thru clothes with a black bra? It seems like everyone is doing it, and honestly, I just don't get it. Wear it at home, but not out! What do you think about it? Is it a cool style to you??? Please tell!

Alana "Honey Boo Boo Child" Thompson and her very intense mother, June, were on Friday's episode of Anderson, during which a bunch of pageant moms from Toddlers & Tiaras dressed up in all the horrible frilly-ness they make their daughters wear. These are the shocking results. And the worst part is that I think the mom actually thinks it looks good....
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I just can't stand these shows. "My daughter needs a tan, false teeth, blah blah blah." No, they don't. They need to grow up to love who they are and embrace their unique differences. Pageants for kids are fine. Just not when the parents go over the top and drag their kids into the nightmare that they never wanted to be a part of. So many of these moms are living through their daughters. Ick.

I got to judge a pageant once, with my sister and two other people on the panel. It was for "Little Miss Dublin," and they take it VERY seriously. Well, many parents were shocked at the winner. You see, my sister and I didn't pick by the greatest, most extravagant dress, best tan, etc. (although I did take dress choice into consideration) I looked for the little girls who looked like they were having fun, the ones that were smiling...REAL smiles. :) I loved seeing little girls up there just having a good time, feeling pretty and being the star of the show. Those little girls got the high scores from me. When you feel pretty and believe you are beautiful, then you are. :)

After we announced the winners, we bolted. There were some unhappy parents. Everyone of course thought that their daughter should have won. They were all beautiful little girls and it was sooooo hard judging them, but I don't think the parents understood that. I mean, some did of course, but there was that select few, and I didn't want to hang around and discuss it with them! :) I was just glad that all the little girls were happy. They didn't care about winning. They just liked feeling pretty and playing dress-up. :)

More creepiness......

They will kill you in your sleep. Do not be fooled by the twinkling fake eyes and smile.....

The video you are about to watch is upsetting and disturbing. Nobody should put their child through physical pain for the sake of beauty. This is child abuse.

It brought tears to my eyes, seeing this. I thought of my sweet little niece who is close to this age, and I just couldn't imagine putting her through that!

My Valentine's Surprise :)

I pulled up to the house last night, and saw a big heart on the garage, made of Christmas lights. I walked to the front door, and there was a love note taped to it, so sweet it made me cry. When I walked in, my sweet husband, Brad, was waiting at the door to hug me and say he loved me. :) Our song was playing and candles were lit everywhere. He brought me to the kitchen, where he had made my fav food with my fav snack and fav dessert! We had dinner, and then he gave me a rose with a note attached to it. I did a scavenger hunt to find the rest of the dozen roses. Each rose contained the next clue. Then we played my fav board game that I always beat him at. :) It was a perfect night and I'm so lucky to be married to the greatest guy in the world. :)

I mentioned Valentine's Day a few weeks ago in one of my posts, wondering what my husband had in store for me. I always feel bad because although I am a creative person, I can never think of such creative things as Brad does! He is the Valentine's king! :) I wrote him a sweet poem though, and he really liked it. Oh, and I scratched his back. :) heehee

And in case you're wondering, he surprised me last night, because I thought we were gonna celebrate Valentine's Day today. He likes to catch me completely off guard. :)

Now...time to laugh. :)
