Well, if you have your hosting with HostGator, chances are that there is an easy fix.  Let me tell you what happened to me today.

I woke up this morning and the first thing I noticed when I turned on my laptop was that my primary business website was gone.  This very website was completely gone. The Url was still there, but I lost over 70 posts and 5 pages.  All my sidebar information was intact, but [b]I lost all my content[/b].

Needless to say, I wasn’t happy!  I had been working on this site since October ’09 and had Google Page Rank and lots of content.  I checked my backup and the last time I backed up was in June.  So, I thought that I would restore my site and at least get most of my content back.

But, before I did anything, I called HostGator Customer Service, and I found out a couple of things I wanted to pass on.  First of all, the Customer Service rep that I worked with, VJ, was able to completely restore my site.  It took about 15 minutes.  So, that was totally awesome.

I found out that they back up their servers on Sunday and they save a copy of your, in this case my, site… as of that day. If VJ had not been able to fix my site, I could have paid $15 to have my site restored from their servers.  And, that’s what I would have done had she not been able to back up my site.  If I had made a post after last Sunday, only that post would have been lost.

So, remember to back-up your sites; but if you forget, don’t panic.  Just call HostGator Customer Support and they will help you restore your site.

Great Search Engine Opimization (SEO) virtually demands a basic understanding that Content is King in Internet marketing. It increases search engine ranking which results in more targeted organic (free) traffic for your business, and it provides justification for other sites to link to your business website.

I recently saw this summary on content in the Philadelphia Inquirer by Joseph N. DiStefano (Friday, May 21, 2010 p. D3). According to Patrick Keane, “…newspapers aren’t good at the “math & science” of generating traffic. News is ephemeral. But if you create content that’s lifetime, you can monetize that.” Patrick Keane runs Associated Content, which he recently sold to Yahoo for a reported $100 million.  Indeed, content is lifetime!

Content is King to anyone who has a business website and wants to drive targeted traffic to their website.  Content can mean text, pictures, videos, PowerPoint presentations, etc.  Content is King because it is the key element in advertising, marketing and promoting a any business website today.

The major search engines demand unique original content to enhance their “users experience.”  And, its not as difficult to develop unique original content as you may think.  It’s really just a matter of focusing on a particular subject and telling your audience “what you think” and “where they can find more information” on the subject.   And, its very appropriate to make you own recommendation based on what you know and think.  If you are providing good sound recommendations, other sites will link to yours.

On the other hand, I see far too many blog posts or articles that amount to nothing more than a bunch of words wrapped around an affiliate link that directs someone to a sales page.  This is not content.  This is sales. You are not going to get search engine luv if this is your approach to Internet marketing.  Furthermore, it certainly is not unique.  If you want to make your content unique, always consider how you can pass value to your readers.  That’s unique.

Content is not a product sales page.  Content is reviewing one to three different products and offering your opinion.  Write to your readers needs.  If the search engines send someone to your site, they did so because they determined that you could offer them a solution to their problem.  Ask you yourself this question: “What do my readers need to know in order to help them make an educated decision on a product?”  Provide useful information that gives your readers the impression that you really care about helping them.  Don’t be afraid to show some personality.  Try to relate to your visitor’s experience.  They will appreciate that there is a real person trying to help them. That is unique!  Now, you are getting some search engine luv.

 Yes, Content is King in Internet marketing and as Partrick Keane says, it is lifetime.  However, this can be bad as well as good.  If people are not visiting your business website, your lifetime of content will simply rot on the Internet vine.  If you are pitching product 100 percent of the time, you certainly are not offering unique original content.  Make it valuable. Make it user friendly. Make it objective and informative. The search engines know the type of content you are producing and they have long memories.  So, beware of the type of content you are producing!  If it’s original. If it’s unique and offers value, your lifetime of content will reward you immensely.

The short answer is, “yes.”  Some will tell you that you can conceivably build an Internet home business without a single dime.  All you need is a computer and an Internet connection, which does cost money, but the assumption here is you have those two components already.  Plus, these are actually indirect costs because you, and perhaps your family, are already receiving other value from these two resources.  But, it does take money to build an Internet home business!

Let’s face it!  If you want to succeed with you Internet home business, you have to treat it like a real business.  The trick is minimizing the cost of operating your business while maximizing your return or profit.  And, there are definately ways to do it.

The key to Internet marketing is to develop content.  Content is “KING” on the Internet.  More specifically, content to help people solve a particular problem, or to conduct simple research.  A problem can be many, many things.

For example, people can be searching for:

Products: Cameras, clothes, books, gifts, etc.

Information: Cameras, clothes, books, gifts, etc.

It is critically important to understand that products and information OVERLAP when it comes to the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. Google defines this overlap as “relevancy” and “a positive user experience.”  I’m taking a little editorial license here to explain these terms to simply an otherwise complicated process and set of ideas and complicated algorithms that the search engines use to drive free organic traffic to an Internet marketer.

In other words, Google is not going to assign a high degree of relevancy to a one-page website with 30 different products listed on the page. On the other hand, if this same website has 30 different pages with 300-750 words that provide an objective review of each of these products, and the page is keyword optimized, they will assign a much, much higher degree of relevancy to this website. Why? Because this enhances their user’s experience; and when their user’s have a positive experience, they will favor that search engine when they next look for information.  And, this helps the major search engines grow their business.

Consequently, when you combine relevancy and user experience, you are actually developing content.  This is my current interpretation of this mix:

Content = Product + Information, or

User Experience =  (Product) + Content (Objective Information)

You can have the greatest program or product on the Internet, but if you do not provide Content, you will not drive free, organic traffic to your website.  This is a key component in learning how to advertise, market and promote your Internet marketing business!  You have to drive targeted traffic to your website!

Savy Internet marketers realize that they do not even need a website to achieve some of the same results with the search engines. And, this is the power of Article Marketing. The same thing can be done by using on well crafted article that relates to one single product.

In fact, one single article can generate thousands in income.  If you are anything like me, you have probably overlooked this powerful marketing strategy, because it seems as a rather mundane task and  bit time consuming. Or, you might think that you cannot write a great article that will produce income.  It does take practice, but as they say in life, “practice makes perfect!”

However, many successful Internet marketers are not proficient writers.  I certainly did not consider myself a good writer, particularly at first.  It does take practice and a little work, but like anything worthwhile it is well worth the effort.  Within a couple weeks, you can significantly enhance your proficiency and start making money in your Internet/Affiliate marketing business.
