How many myLot.com reviews are there in ReviewStream?

I have been a member of ReviewStream for quite some time now, just right after I became a member of myLot when I was at the start of my quest of making money online. But this question only struck me lately, just wandering around the site.

How many myLot.com reviews?

Determining how many myLot.com reviews there are in ReviewStream isn't really easy the first time I tried it. When I searched for the keyword "myLot.com" in their search box, I was confronted with 282 results!

As you may have surmised, the problem is with the keyword. It took me three more keyword attempt before I came up with "item: myLot" which for me is the best one.

The Real Score

With this keyword, the Google Custom Search gave me 26 results, noting they "have omitted some entries very similar to the 26 already displayed."

Most of them are positive except for one who says myLot is a scam, of which I will talk about in my later post.

About ReviewStream

It is a site where you get paid to review everything (really!) under the sun. You can even review a cheap ball pen as long as you can classify it in one of the 61 categories (which includes a "General" and an "Others" categories).

You will be paid 40 cents for common reviews and $2 for most wanted reviews in the categories of electronics, travel, hotels and medicine. The minimum payout is $50.

"The myLot Admin Listened to Me"

Good News!

Looks like the admin is listening to our messages after all. Here's a discussion started by vidhyavini when the admin answer one of her prayers. But note that she "just wanted to get my discussions deleted due to some personal problems and so they did it. It was not that those discussions didn't have any responses."

Hi everyone.

I just thought that its impossible to delete the discussions here. I wanted some of my discussions to be deleted badly. So I thought that I don't have any other way than to delete my account.

I started a discussion for that and I said that as I couldn't delete my discussions, I wanted to do this. I got a response asking to contact admin for this. I never thought that admin would help me with this.

But they did. I got a message saying that the discussions were deleted and they have asked me to contact them if necessary.

Did you people contact admin for any reasons?? Did they listen to your problems???

In the responses, sirrob had added another success story:

i have done it several times and so far everything has been great. the lat time i sent them a report was when someone responded into my discussion with a ref link and we all know that its a violation and i don't want my discussion to be deleted so i reported it. the next day, i found out that it was gone already and my discussion still gathered more responders. because of that i a make the same sort of discussion like this to let everyone know something.

"myLot stole my Money"

Mylot stole all the money I'd been saving on this stupid thing. I don't post on here very often but I do have a referal under me who post quite often. So I should be getting money from their post and from the few that I post right? Wrong. I had almost $8 the last time I logged on, I log on today and I only have $1.68. So what the hell happen to the rest of my money? I don't even see the point of using a site that promises to pay you then takes the money back when you aren't looking. What kind of crap is that?

Fellow myLotters were quick in the reply and provided answers on the possible reason why this happened.

If you don't log-in within a 3 month period mylots will wipe out your balance ( I believe it's 3 months, but don't quote me on it) I first joined a year ago and made a little over a dollar here then my computer broke down and I got busy working all the time and it took me months to get my system fixed because I was always too busy to take it in and too tired to mess with it. So finally after 3 months I had my computer fixed and I came back to mylot and found that my account had a "0" balance . So from what I understand mylot will take your money or "0" your account if you are not active here.

Section 16 of the "Terms of Use Agreement":

"Payment. myLot pays users monthly (on or around the 15th of the month) with minimum account balance of $10 US. myLot carries foward all unpaid and qualified earnings from previous months. All unpaid earnings become unqaulified when account has no activity in the past 3 months. "

Lessons learned? Be active, or at least don't be inactive for 3 months. And always visit the Guidelines and Terms.

I got paid by myLot - $21.79!

I just want to share a quick post about my receipt of my myLot payout. You know I have made it a goal to make $25 before September ends. And as before, I have not achieved my goal.

But I am still happy that I made above $20 to compensate for not being able to reach payout last August.

What other myLotters are blogging about?

Whenever I don't have something (or even I have something to do) I visit blogs of other myLotters. These are myLotters who talks about myLot in their blogs and are in my blog list in the sidebar. Here are the most interesting (at least for me).

Sydney Hazelton found a new paid to write site called Neowide. I am almost tempted to join this site but I don't think I will be joining it just now. I don't have that 25 ideas yet to make the $50 payout.

Jena Isle wrote a post about Helium, which is a legit paid to write site. I have been a member of this site for months now and I still haven't reached payout. I just wrote poems, that's why.

Greenleaf discovered a new way to make money from a blog with LinkShowOff. This blogger has a lot of RSS readers already. And I see posts about his blog's earnings already which show he is really making money.

Buzzmaker talks about Homepages Friends. I am also a member of this site but I not using the search engine anymore. I guess my Internet Explorer in which I use the search engine has been infected. I am not saying that the search engine infected it.

Ruth B. has gotten her first payment from a paid to blog site. I will have to check this out too.

How to Improve Your Star Rating

Before reading this post, you should first read my post on the basic principles of improving your star rating.

This post may be ironic at this time because I have suffered a decline in my star rating lately (which caused me not posting for a long time). What I have here are the things I did to increase my star rating. I would like to add that this will not guarantee a perfect star rating.

1. Be an Active Rater

You should give in order to receive. Rate often and rate responsibly. Most of all, let the world know you are an active rater. Start a discussion about it. Disclose it in your responses.

2. Encourage others to Rate

More than letting others know that you are an active rater, you should influence others to be active raters too. Respond to discussions about rating and tell them about the role and importance of rating. You can tell them to check out this post, this post and this post.

3. Befriend an Active Rater

Friends rate friends positively. Look for active raters and send them friend requests. A faster way to locate an active rater is to go to "Today's Top" and "Hot" discussions. One factor that can be considered in ranking discussions in these pages is the number of ratings received.

4. Add at least a New Friend a Day

Because we do not know who are the "trusted" raters and who are not, the way to increase the "trusted" rates you receive is to add a new friend a day. New members are the more promising because they are new and therefore the system still "trusts" them. However, you will have to encourage them to rate.

5. Be Polite and Friendly

If you want to increase your Star Rating, then you should stay away from things that may get you negative ratings. Always be polite. Avoid flame wars. Avoid hot words. Respect other members.

The theory is to receive more active and trusted ratings to increase your Star Rating. You don't really have to kiss anyone else's ass.

Big Waves of Earning Fluctuations

I have told you in my last post that I have suffered a decline of some 20 cents from my second week earnings. It was just a trickle compared to how much I have lost now.

Before and After Earnings

My earnings looks like this in my last weeks snapshot:

Sept10 - 1.95
Sept11 - 1.01
Sept12 - 0.66
Total - 7.21

But if you would view my new snapshot, you will see the same week like this:

A decline of a bit more than 70 cents!

Does this mean I have not been posting quality content? I am posting three lines or more. Maybe the whole discussions are deleted. I can't really tell.

If I would want to know which discussions or responses are being deleted, I would have to write all the discussions numbers (for example in http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1692790.aspx, I would have to write 1692790) for every discussion I respond to. It would take a lot of time and would defeat my purpose of making more posts in less time.

But maybe, when the moment comes that I will have more time, I will investigate on this.

How much money from myLot - Sept Week 3

I have decided to change the title of my Weekly Earnings Report because I think the new title would get more hits from search engines. (I am reading about how to get more traffic lately.)

Anyway, my earning for this week is not much to brag about. It is definite lesser than my last weeks earnings, which is a boom. In fact, this weeks earning is just average.

Sept17 0.72
Sept18 0.58
Sept19 0.90
Sept20 0.02
Total $2.61

Where is September 16?

I have not made any posts (and thus no earnings) on Sept16 because our city had a brownout. And Sept20 falls on a Saturday, so maybe the two cents come from responses.

In four days, my average earning is 0.65/day (2.59/4). I think this is just the average earning of most of the myLotters.

My total earnings is stuck at $20.55 because of fluctuations (I will take about it later this week). So if I want to make $25 by the end of September, I should be making a dollar a day this week.

What are the Most Deleted Discussions?

Deleted posts are one of the facts of every myLot life. I have yet to meet a myLot member who doesn’t have a deleted discussion, response or comment. But it can be avoided or at least lessened.

During the second week of September, in which period I am responding to a lot of discussions (more than 60 responses a day), the outcome were not as good as it should be.

I lost at least 20 cents because of deleted posts

When the earnings for Sept 9 were first updated, I have $1.91 for that day. But later in the week, it fell to only $1.69. I don’t how the other figures change but I have noticed this one because it is big. I never had that big fluctuation before.

Most of the deleted posts are about reaching myLot milestones

At that time, I remember most of the discussions I respond to are about reaching 100th, 200th, 500th posts and so on. So it should definitely be the cause. I think I have answer around 30 of them that day.

I also happened that time I was reading a discussion about 500th post, and when I was about to respond, the page says the discussion is already deleted.

Because of this, I will now stay out of discussions about reaching myLot milestones, unless the discussion is focused on another topic.

Why "Do you" Discussions Draw More Responses

Most of the discussions I started which acquired the most number of responses are in question form. And most of them start with “Do you.”

That is when I started to ask myself why, and come up with the following reasons:

“Do you” discussions easily catch the eye

They attract attention because they are easy to read. There are no embellishments and garnishing. The danger in creative titles is that they can be hard to read and understand. “Do you” discussions are free from this danger.

“Do you” discussions involve the readers

Every title with “you” in it involves the readers. It is because most, if not all, of the respondents are very much willing to talk abut themselves. Maybe it’s human nature. Personal opinion is the easiest to offer.

“Do you” discussions provoke the readers to respond

Obviously because they are questions. From the very first time we learn how to speak, we are always asked questions. And from that day on, our minds are trained to answer more questions. That is why titles in question form always works.

Warning: Not all “Do you” discussions work. You must come up with a working topic that is easy to answer and can be answered by anyone.

Basic Principles You Must Know to Improve Your Star Rating

You may wan to know how I got a perfect Star Rating myself as Arkaf61 has. But before I tell you the methods of improving your star rating, I need to tell you the basic principles on which these methods are based.

Basic Principles

There are active and passive raters

Active raters rates regularly. They usually rate most or all of the posts they encounter, especially those post from their friends. Passive raters, on the other hand, seldom rates or don't rate at all. Maybe they don't believe in rating or they don't know what rating is all about.

There are trusted and non-trusted raters

myLot assigns a "trust" value on every member depending on how responsible they are in terms of rating. This is how myLot solves the problem with "trolls". Once their identifies an abnormal rating activity of a member, they would mark that member as "untrusted" and all of the ratings that he would make will not be valuable anymore.

We can say outright if we are active or passive raters, but we cannot tell if myLot has seen us as a trusted or non-trusted rater. Moreover, we cannot really tell if the one member is an active or passive rater, and even harder to tell if he is trusted or not.

So how can you increase your Star Rating in this case? Watch out for my next posts.

Interview with a Perfect Star Rating holder - Conclusion

Arkaf61 has given us a lot of great ideas and views on star rating in my interview with her. I want to highlight things which are most important to keep in mind if you want to earn a lot in myLot or just want to have a higher star rating.

Part of the rating score comes from best responses

I remember Arkaf61 said she got her first star when she got a best response. It maybe the system then that they only get stars when they have best responses. In any case, Best Responses, are related to Star Ratings. I can vouch for it.

Those who respect others have higher star ratings

Respect summarizes all of her advice. Be friendly. Be respectful. Be positive. Be polite. Comment on responses. Avoid flaming discussions. Live and let live. These are all branches of respect. If you give respect, you will receive it too and there would be no point for them to rate you negatively. Good attracts good.

Those who don't take things too personal have higher ratings

I believe part of the reason I have a perfect rating is because I am in here for the money. Nothing is really personal. Though I must say I enjoy the friendship I have in myLot. When you take things personal, your responses and discussions would tend to be emotionally charged and thus would receive emotionally charged responses and comments.

Those who enjoy myLot have higher star ratings

It's Arkaf61's reason for having a perfect star rating. "Enjoy" doesn't mean you should be laughing hard at making other members' stay in myLot as miserable as hell. Arkaf61 is honest and friendly and don't really go into any kind of fight. myLot is about information, opinions, friends and earnings. It should not include factions, trolls, flame wars and personal quarrels between members.

Those who don't rate negatively have higher star ratings

I don't rate negatively. Arkaf61 don't rate negatively. We have high star ratings. If you still doubt it, try it for yourself. If good attracts good, bad attracts bad.

There is no point in rating negatively

Rating should only be between a positive rating and a report of an abuse. If you don't think a post deserve a positive rating neither a "report abuse", you should just leave it unrated. To forgive is divine.

Those who do not report abuse have higher ratings

Arkaf61 doesn't report abuse. Neither do I. If a discussion violates the guidelines, just leave it. When my discussions are deleted, I always have an idea that those should not have been deleted. But if I see a discussion with few responses, they would try other topics to discuss. Some people report abuse to increase their share on earnings. But remember, robbers hate fellow robbers.

There is a link between rating and earnings

This is the thing I have been trying to point out all along. Again, all things that we do to participate in myLot contribute to earnings. It is not the ratings we give that affects our earnings but it is the rating we receive. However, we must give in order to receive.

Ratings are subjective

Having high ratings doesn't really mean you have the most intellectual and interesting discussions (I don't). High ratings only mean people enjoy you and your contributions. It is not really a gauge of how good a discussion starter or a respondent you are, but how many lives you have touched.

Weekly Earnings Report - Sept Week 2

I can say that this week has been very productive for me in terms of myLotting. As you will see in this weeks earnings report, I have been making over than a dollar a day on the average.

Highly motivated

This maybe because I am highly motivated this week because of my poor myLot performance last week. I want to show you in this blog that I can earn much from this site in order for you to believe my tips. Is it working?

I didn't earned during September 13-14 because I didn't logged in to myLot at that time. I only log into myLot on weekdays.

I have also experienced a lot of earnings fluctuations throughout the week. I have lost around more than 20 cents due to deleted posts. I think I have to be more careful next time.

Ever wondered why it's so hard to get good Mylot referrals?

So I've been giving this entire Mylot referral problem some thought.

Everyday I hear others say how hard it is to find willing Mylot referrals who will stay for more than a week.

And I wanted to pass something along.

Before Mylot I was into lots of other online businesses and found one thing to be true. Most of them required recruiting sub-reps or sub-affiliates.

When you solicit the "money making" crowd you get a lot of sign ups from people who are expecting to get rich quick.

These types of recruits usually leave the program quickly cause they don't get immediate wealth.

Perhaps when recruiting for Mylot you could stress other non-money motives to attract people really interesting in learning or sharing new info.

For instance, Mylot has a vibrant poetry, business, parenting, art, game and gardening community.

Why not target people who are interested in talking about those things. Here are some links you can post on your blog. Be sure to add your Mylot referral link so that they are joining in your down line when they sign up.

I was a newbie before in MyLot...
Like you, I'm also wondering how to get a lot of response for my discussions.

That time, the members that are always in the hot topics were lordwarwizard, becuttieusa, and easy888.
I must say that they're really great in making topics that it came to the point where they will have at least 100 or more response!

One thing I've realized that time...
...if you want to have a lot of response, your discussion must have a lot of EXPOSURE!

MyLot is like a huge billboard where we advertise our own products or shall we say topics.

THE MORE EXPOSURE WE HAVE, THE MORE RESPONSES WE GET...

...THE MORE EARNINGS AS WELL! HAHAHAHA! LOL! No just kidding!

Anyways, before I leave MyLot, I really want to share to all of you what I did to get a lot of response...

1.) Be Friendly!

I notice that most of the responses I got were from my MyLot friends. It began since I started to add Mylot members as my friends.
So here's what you have to do:

- add everyone you see around here! When I say everyone, that means it's really EVERYONE! No exceptions!
- add every people under your list of interests. (the more interests, the better!)
- add every person that responded to your discussions.
- add the friends of your friends.
- don't reject friend requests. (Your pride won't work here, it will lead you nowhere!)

Remember, DON'T CHOOSE! JUST ADD EVERYONE YOU SEE AS YOUR FRIEND.
You must also accept everyone that wants to be your friend of course!

You must have at least 1,500 friends. If possible, make it 2000 or more because "THE MORE MYLOT FRIENDS YOU HAVE, THE GREATER CHANCE YOU'LL RECEIVE A LOT OF RESPONSE!"

Remember, there's no limit! You can even add 100% of MyLot population if you have the guts to do so. LOL!

This 1st step is very important so start adding now! Heehee!

2.) Post your topics in the popular interests!

NEVER START A TOPIC AS A GENERAL DISCUSSION.

- post your topics in one of these popular interests: MYLOT, LIFE, PEOPLE, DOGS, LOVE

I recommend you to post your topics in LIFE. That's what I did and it worked!

It will also give your discussion MORE EXPOSURE because LIFE is where people usually post their topics.

3.) Post your discussion in the afternoon time.

I still remember asking lordwarwizard before, when did he usually post his discussions. He replied "2pm or 5am"
I tried to post mine around 3pm to 5pm and it really worked.

- post your topics around 3 to 5 in the afternoon because this is usually the time where work and classes dismisses. That means, it's where people will be getting online.

4.) Add comment to every response you get.

You probably notice the "discussions my friends started" box at the frontpage of your MyLot account.

- comment on every response you received because whenever your discussion received a new response and comment, it will be taken to the top of the "discussions my friends started" box.

Thus, giving your discussion MORE EXPOSURE.

This step works perfectly if you have a huge number of MyLot friends.

5.) Be a good MyLot citizen.

- don't be harsh or rude with your comments and response.
- don't harass other members.
- don't criticize other people's mistake.
- don't just copy-paste other discussions or response. (It will ruin your reputation)
- be original, be unique!

IF YOU ARE GOOD TO OTHERS, OTHER PEOPLE WILL ALSO BE GOOD TO YOU.

6.) Start a very good and interesting topic.

Now this is the most important one! The things mentioned above will be useless if your topic is not interesting at all.
No matter what exposure you get, it will still be useless if your topic is not good.

- make the title catchy! One that catches the attention of other MyLot members.
- put some little humor in your discussion so that it won't become boring to read.
- as much as possible, make your discussion short and simple.

Before you start a topic, put yourself first in the shoe of the reader and ask yourself... "Will this be interesting?" or "Can I relate to this topic?"
If you're confident enough that your topic will be a hit, then post it!

MAKE SURE EVERYONE WILL RELATE TO YOUR DISCUSSION!

I recommend you to start a topic related about different facts of life because this is usually the most interesting one.
You can even post disgusting topics if you like just for fun. Just make sure it won't hurt others.

Avoid posting nonsense and one-liner discussions because that will lead you nowhere.

Being included on the top ten in the hot topics will also gain your discussion MORE EXPOSURE.
Here's some tips to get yourself in the hot topics's top ten:

- rate every response and comment as positive.

NEVER RATE THEM AS NEGATIVE because it will decrease your chance to be in the top ten. It will also affect your star rating.

- once again, add comment to every response you get.

THE MORE RESPONSE AND COMMENT, THE MORE YOU WILL RATE THEM AS POSITIVE. Thus, increasing your chance to belong to the top ten.

- as much as possible, post only one topic a day so that you can concentrate only on that particular discussion.

If you have another topic in your mind, it's much better if you reserve it for tomorrow.

- most importantly, your topic must be interesting of course!

How can you get to the top ten if your topic isn't HOT right!? Got my point?

Remember, HOT TOPICS ARE JUDGED BY THE MOST POSITIVE-RATED AND THE MOST NUMBER OF RESPONSE AND COMMENTS so make sure to rate all of your responses and comments as positive.

Interview with a Perfect Star Rating holder - Part 3

Arkaf61 is the only friend I have who has a perfect star rating. I got really interested and had her answer some questions. In the first two parts, she had answered how she maintains her star rating and has shared her ideas on trolls and negative ratings. In this part, she will share her myLot routine, her secret, and what she thinks regarding the link between rating and earnings. Read on...

[Time spent on myLot]

R: How active are you in myLot? Time spent?
A: My time in mylot depends a lot on what my real life allows.Sometimes I am able to spend almost all day here- while at the same time doing other things. Sometimes I have a chance do be here 2 or 3 hours. And sometimes, specially at very busy times at work or with my family, I rarely come here.
As a rule I come each day for at least one to two hours.

[Secret: Enjoying myLot]

R: What do you think contributed to your perfect star rating?
A: I think that the only reason for my rating would be the fact that I am enjoying myself here. I am honest and friendly with everyone. I don't engage in flame wars and I am not judgmental. I respect each member and I can apologize if I"m wrong. I can agree to disagree without getting into a verbal fight, and I know when to just leave things alone. I don't always have to get the last word, because it's simply not that important.

[The missing link?]

R: I know you are more for fun but... Do you think star rating is related to earnings?
A: LOL yes, the fun is first:) As for rating and earnings, myLot is really careful about not disclosing that kind of information but I have read that there is a link between higher ratings and higher pay per response. Not sure if it's true or not, but if it is, it makes sense in a way.

What I know for sure, and this from myLot itself from what I understand, is that everything we do in here seems to contribute somehow. The exact words from myLot according to an email a friend of mine received were: "everything is taken into consideration when we calculate earnings."

[Plus Ratings are very subjective]

That all said, I have to say that as much as I would like to believe that my rating has to do with my integrity as a poster and my brilliant participation, I'm afraid that it isn't exactly so - although of course integrity is my middle name and my participation is brilliant LOL - . THe truth is ratings don't reflect anything else than how others perceive us and enjoy our participation.

As with minus, plus rating is very subjective. People don't rate plus only for a well written post, or a good topic.. they tend to rate plus for different reasons: because they are friends, because the poster itself is someone they enjoy reading etc.

Plus ratings reflect more the kind of atmosphere a member brings that the member's expertise because as a rule, people would give a plus rate more easily to a silly discussion that makes them laugh or feel good, than an extremely good discussion that brings no special feelings.

Sure a good discussion will be rated plus, but so will many others that are not good nor bad, just interesting, or pleasant, or that deal with something dear to the responder.

This myLotter Knows When the Cut-off Time Is

If I have learned anything from Marie Anne's Associated content article entitled How to Navigate myLot.com Effectively, it is about when the cut-off time really is.

She said

myLot earnings are updated every day, so whatever you post one day will be reflected in your earnings the very next day. Since myLot.com is located in the U.S. the cut-off time for each day appears to be midnight eastern (New York) time and the earnings are posted several hours later, after allowing time for calculations. There is no exact time each day, but the updates generally occur between 9:00am-10:30am. If you have posted after midnight, those posts will be reflected in the earnings of the following day.

She had said "appears" and "generally" which shows she is also estimating. But she has been in myLot for a longer time that I have, maybe she knows what she's talking about.

How to Navigate myLot.com Effectively is a two part article created mainly for myLot newbies. she had crafted an easy to follow guide on how to use myLot in the first part and related how having more friends is beneficial in the second part.

She also has a blog about myLot but it is more of a landing page to promote her AC article and to attract more referrals. That is why I am not adding her blog in my blog roll.

Which Pays More - Discussions or Responses?

This blog is not only about "how to earn in myLot". More importantly, it is about "how to earn A LOT in myLot". We can earn a lot by focusing on activities that earns more.

Discussion or Response?

I have always said and will always say that discussions pay more. The more responses a discussion receives, the more money it earns. More than that, the earning capability of a discussion is unlimited up to a certain extent because it can still receive responses even after a long period of time. I said "up to a certain extent" because I don't think people will still respond to a discussion which is already a year old.

Responses, on the contrary, earns only once. It stops earnings from the time you have posted it. Although I am having an idea that a response may earn more when it has a long string of comments under it, it is very unlikely and would be very hard to prove.

From the Rating point of view

In the higher rating equals higher earnings point of view, a discussion has the opportunity to receive more rating because it is what myLot users mostly reads. The number of ratings a discussion receives is usually close if not equal to the number of responses it has gathered. This is because members usually rate a discussion before they respond to it.

On the other hand, and I admit to this, most myLot members don't read the other responses to a discussion, so less is the chance that they would rate it. The only rating that a response usually get is a rating from the discussion starter.

No matter how you look at it, discussion pays more. Focusing on starting discussions that works would greatly increase your earnings.

Weekly Earnings Report - September Week 1

As promised, I will be unveiling my weekly earnings on myLot for you to follow starting this September. And I will be doing this weekly.

Overall Performance Rating: Very Poor

If I am aiming for $25 for this month, this week's performance will not get me there. And with $9.90 in carryover earnings from August, I now have $11.44, which means I am $13.56 short. In order to reach it in time, I have to make an average of $0.90 or more per day.

One thing I have discovered is the cut-off time. I have estimated that the cut-off time is somewhere at 3PM in my country time. It is not so. I have made some 10 responses at about 2PM of September 7 and still it is not credited to my earnings. It only means the cut-off time is earlier than that.

I am now expecting more earnings on September 8 because of the 10 responses I made.

Close to a cent per post

As you can also see, the payment is close to a cent per post. I didn't start any discussions this week. The difference between the number of responses and amount paid may be blamed on responses that my old discussions have received.

Interview with a Perfect Star Rating holder - Part 2

Last August, I interviewed a myLot member with a star rating of 100/100. In the first part of the interview, Arkaf61 shared how she maintains her rating and offered some advice like being polite, commenting and avoiding flaming discussions. Here are her other ideas and advice regarding flaming discussions, troll and negative ratings:

[Don't get too involved]

One thing that I can't stress enough is for people to try not getting too involved in a personal way. There are a lot of negative things going on in myLot mostly because people take sides, take it upon themselves to judge others, get too involved with the whole drama. This doesn't really help anyone. It's ok to care enough to defend a friend, but without taking it too far. Those kinds of discussions always end in open battles that do nothing for the site or for themselves.

[Rating Negatively]

R: What was your experience regarding star ratings? Do you rate negatively?
A: So far my experience with rating has been a positive one, as my whole experience in myLot.
I don't rate negatively. I don't even see the point. People get really confused about rating negatively.

Negative rating is not for when one doesn't agree with the poster as most people do. A response that is not relevant, or is a one word response, could be rated negatively - but it's important to take in consideration that the person's language might not be English, or maybe it's just someone really new in here, or the person might have just missed the point.. rating negatively in this cases is not exactly the solution.

As for a really outrageous responses, that are both rude and malicious.. then there is no point rating negatively and they should be instead reported.

I think that the possibility to rate plus would be enough along with the same possibility to report abuse. The minus is a bit more tricky because it allows for some injustices to be done.

[On Trolls]

R: Do you have any experience with the so-called "trolls"?
A: I have heard a lot about the "trolls". I suppose I have even seen some results from their crusades. Personally I haven't had any experience with any of them. And I wish to keep it that way. I don't like the idea of people going around looking for something to report and I really feel that in a site like this freedom of expression is important - within the main respect idea -. When someone does not agree with a discussion - and providing it is not some sort of abuse against other members or someone in general - there is always a choice: close it and don't respond.No need to make such a big issue out of it as sometimes happens.

[Violations]

As for finding people that are violation the guidelines, I tend to be more of a live and let live person. If rules are being broken myLot will eventually catch up to it and will take care of it. I follow the rules and make sure that my participation is within guidelines. What others do.. it's their own business I don't come here to be the secret police.

My problem with trolls is that even though often their intentions are good, there is plenty of room for all sorts of abuse and misunderstanding which in turn make myLot an uncomfortable environment.

On the other hand, I also see members really flaming things up to make it even worse, they shouldn't complain after. They're also part of the problem.

The best suggestion: stay out of those.

Do you talk about myLot in your blog?

If you have seen this blog two weeks ago, you can tell that it has undergone a major facelift, that is a new template courtesy of eBlog Templates. You should have seen how crowded the modified Minima template is and how there are little room for monetization.

As part of the new look, and of course monetization, I am having a blog roll in my side bar of those blogs which talk about myLot. Make your Earnings look more Attractive

If I would be making my myLot posts at 8AM and 4PM, I should consider the cut-off time. If the cut-0ff time is around 3PM, it means that the earnings I will get from my 4PM posts would not be included in the 9PM earnings update.

This would give me a more realistic perspective on how my activities have been paid.

Pimp your Earnings

The knowledge of the difference between cut-off time and update time is useful in making my earnings look more attractive. If I would be starting a discussion on a given day, I should be starting it as part of my 4PM posts. In that way, the responses that the discussion will get within the day would be in a single update and not divided into two updates.

For example, if I would start a discussion at 8AM and it receives 25 responses from 8AM-4PM and 25 responses from 4PM until update, my earnings page would show two days with a $0.50.

Why is this important?

Big amounts motivates the mind. Seeing a $0.50 would make me post more than seeing a $0.25. And suppose I have made 50 responses throughout the day and see only $0.25 after update, it wouldn't feel very good.
