High cholesterol readings are now a fact of modern life. While there are pharmaceutical medicines which will lower your ‘bad’ cholesterol, these chemical concoctions often have undesirable side effects most of us would just as soon avoid. If your doctor has pronounced your cholesterol readings to be too high, you might want to take some natural steps to reduce your cholesterol readings before opting for a prescription.

All of the foods described here, integrated into your daily diet, may provide that 8-week cholesterol cure with nary a pill! Naturally, if your cholesterol readings are off the chart, you may want to hedge your bets. Bring this list of foods to your appointment and ask your doctor if adding these 8-week cholesterol cure foods to your diet might not be beneficial, with your monitoring appointments scheduled closer together. You may well see your readings plummeting, for the good. This could result in lowering the dose or even eliminating the necessity for medication.

Whole, fresh, preferably organically grown garlic, consumed with gusto, can constitute an 8-week cholesterol cure all on its own! Numerous independent studies have compared the cholesterol reducing capacity of garlic against the pharmaceuticals with astonishing results. Garlic has been proven to effect a reduction in cholesterol on a par with the sophisticated (and pricey) pharmaceutical medicines, over a 3-month period. If you’re not fond of the garlic breath effect, include plenty of fresh parsley with each dose of garlic to eliminate that problem. An aggressive 8-week cholesterol cure program must have garlic in a starring role!

It’s well established that Mediterranean diets correlate with inhabitants with some of the lowest rates of heart disease. Take a page from such cuisines. For example, olive oil dissolves cholesterol deposits! The Mediterranean abounds with fish and is a staple of Mediterranean cuisines. Fish from these seas are packed with the Omega-3 fatty acids, important antioxidants and cholesterol reducing foods. Wine is also a customary inclusion in the Mediterranean diet. In particular, red wine raises the ‘good’ cholesterol, while eliminating excess cholesterol from your blood. Eat, drink and be merry – in moderation of course. Adhering to a Mediterranean style diet can well form a cornerstone of the 8-week cholesterol cure. A leafy green salad, dressed with a garlic laden, olive oil vinaigrette dressing, a serving of sea bass and a nice red wine is just the ticket!

Fruits are also prominent in the Mediterranean cuisine, often appearing as dessert. Oranges, apples, prunes and pears all contain significant amounts of vitamin C, proven to reduce blood cholesterol levels, flushing excess cholesterol through the digestive tract.

Vegetables, such as raw broccoli and spinach should also be consumed frequently in your 8-week cholesterol cure diet program. Shiitake mushrooms, almonds, soy milk, tofu and oat bran are all ready to do service in reducing your cholesterol levels.

Turmeric is the main constituent in curry mixes and not only reduces the ‘bad’ cholesterol, but also reduces blood sugar levels, important to type 2 diabetes patients. Curry combines deliciously with both meat and vegetable recipes, so make these dishes a regular part of your diet.

Dose your next pot of coffee with just a teaspoon of cinnamon and decrease your ‘bad’ cholesterol by up to 20%!

Is an 8-week cholesterol cure within your reach? Change your menus to incorporate all of these cholesterol fighting foods and see for yourself! Your doctor will be astonished!

As we get older, it’s important to get our cholesterol level checked regularly. If necessary, lower cholesterol naturally It’s recommended that all adults age 20 or older should have a cholesterol test once every five years.

Not addressing your high cholesterol may cost you later on. In fact, some people do not ever realize that there is a problem until they have had their first heart attack.

Heart disease (heart attacks, strokes, etc.) has been called the “silent killer” because you can’t see or feel the problems of it. However, it has been number one killer for the past century and claims hundred and thousands of lives every year in North America alone

High cholesterol symptoms can be totally undetectable. In fact most people, enjoying a healthy lifestyle, may never feel any high cholesterol symptoms. Many times this is only discovered with a routine medical check by their doctor that includes taking a blood sample.

This is a simple blood test that measures the levels of lipids, or fats, in the blood. The ‘lipids’ are called the LDL and HDL cholesterol levels

LDL cholesterol is called “bad” cholesterol, because higher levels of LDL cholesterol areassociated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease.

LDL lipoprotein deposits cholesterol on the artery walls, causing the formation of a hard, thick substance called cholesterol plaque that causes thickening of the artery and narrowing of the arteries, a process called atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is responsible for much coronary artery disease (angina and heart attacks) and many strokes.

On the other hand, HDL cholesterol is called the “good cholesterol” because HDL cholesterol prevents atherosclerosis, lower cholesterol naturally, by extracting cholesterol from the artery walls and disposing of them through the liver naturally

Why take the risk and become another statistic, for the sake of a simple medical test and basic cholesterol management. ?!

If you’re carrying a few extra pounds, losing this extra weight can only help in reducing cholesterol naturally.. Whether you’re overweight or not, exercise can reduce cholesterol. Plus any moderate physical activity can help raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol.

But all the exercise in the world is not going to help, unless you make a few changes in your diet that can reduce cholesterol and improve your heart health.

Cut back on the junk food. Not all fat is bad; simply substitute the good fats for the bad, Saturated Fats and Polyunsaturated fats found in most processed foods are the ones to avoid.

Saturated fats occur naturally in many foods. The majority come mainly from animal sources, including meat and dairy products. Polyunsaturated fats contribute to oxidation and free radical damage in the body, which is linked to heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune diseases and premature aging.

On the other hand, some fats do you good. Monounsaturated fats are the most beneficial for the heart, because they not only reduce the bad LDL Cholesterol, but they also increase the HDL “good” Cholesterol

If your cholesterol levels are found to be higher than they are supposed to be, your doctor may prescribe that you make certain changes to your lifestyle, medications, or both of these to assist you to lower cholesterol naturally.

A good question! And one that I am going to try to answer as honestly and as plainly as I can, based on my own personal experience and knowledge. I am going to explain it in layman terms so there is no confusion.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to high cholesterol levels. These are as follows:

Genetics

Some people inherit a condition where very high cholesterol levels run in the family. If, for example, diabetes runs in the family, other members of the family can inherit high triglyceride levels, which are a type of blood fat that can raise cholesterol levels.

Lack Of Exercise

Now here is where it gets interesting. You can have two people, identical lifestyles, with neither one exercising. But only one of them develops high cholesterol. I know, you are wondering, well what causes high cholesterol in only one of them? There is no one simple answer to this. Some people just react differently to lifestyle factors than others. I know that does not seem fair, but regardless of how similar our lifestyles are, genetically we are very different. Regular exercise though will help to lower cholesterol. Now no one is expecting you to start running marathons, just add a small bit of exercise every day to your schedule where you can.

High Fat Diet

This is very similar to the lack of exercise. Again, you can have two people, eating the same high fat foods every day, but only one of them develops high cholesterol. I have personally experienced it. My friend in actual fact would eat more high fat foods than me in her diet but when we both got tested for high cholesterol, I was the only one whose cholesterol had rocketed! Hers had not really budged. But our genetic makeup is very different and that is a key factor. However, no one should ever assume, that sustaining a high fat diet over a long period of time is not causing any damage internally, or indeed that it will never impact on cholesterol levels. Your body will make more cholesterol if you eat too much saturated fats which are found in dairy products and high fat meats.

You know, cholesterol is not something to play russian roulette with. Never assume that because you feel fine, everything is fine. I have had to battle dangerously high cholesterol for a very long time. I did not get it checked because I felt fine, I did not suspect anything was wrong. I was lucky. Had I kept going without getting it checked, well I dread to think what the worse case scenario might have been.

And when I asked various doctors what causes high cholesterol the majority of them pointed to food. But I was not satisfied to just leave it at that, and hope that solely changing my diet would result in a perfect cholesterol level. Most doctors will prescribe medication for lowering cholesterol, but those medications have an adverse effect on liver function which I also discovered from personal experience. I had elevated liver enzymes as well as high cholesterol so needed a more natural way of lowering my cholesterol to help the liver. I knew that diet and exercise would certainly help, but I could not see how they on their own could achieve effective enough results, and how long would it take. Plus I did not want to simply lower my cholesterol levels, I wanted to be able to maintain them long term.

To this end, I searched for natural treatment remedies for people with high cholesterol. I researched every product available, ensuring that not only would it help with reducing my cholesterol levels, but that it would not affect my liver function, and would be something I could use long term to maintain healthy normal cholesterol levels.

I found a little gem of a product that does exactly that. It assists in dealing effectively with what causes high cholesterol. My health and well being journey has been long, sometimes lonely and sometimes very tough. But I have no hesitation in sharing the outcome of my exploits.

So do yourself a favour and visit my website today and check out how you too can deal with your high cholesterol levels. Where your health is concerned, never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

You know, before we start talking about lowering cholesterol, I think it is worth noting what elements of our daily diet cause our cholesterol to go high in the first place. Well, there are a couple of things that should be mentioned – saturated fats and cholesterol itself.

Saturated fat is found in red meat products (beef, pork, lamb etc.) as well as in dairy products. Cholesterol is found in foods that are high in animal fat. But there are two exceptions to this which you need to bear in mind. Liver is not high in fat but it is high in cholesterol. Most people do not realise this. Eggs are also not high in fat but are high in cholesterol.

So what are the foods that lower cholesterol? We can start by eating more foods which are rich in dietary fibre and starches – vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains – can help lower your cholesterol in a number of ways.

Foods like fruit, whole grains and vegetables are classed as carbohydrate rich foods and are naturally low in calories. If you eat more of these kinds of foods, you will be less likely to eat other foods which are high in fat and cholesterol. Also, fruit and vegetables contain vitamins and other substances that act as antioxidants which help stop cholesterol moving into the lining of the blood vessels.

All of the aforementioned foods are a great source of dietary fibre. Soluble fibre, a form of dietary fibre, can help lower cholesterol levels by getting rid of cholesterol before it hits the bloodstream. Foods that are rich in soluble fibre would be beans, peas, oat bran and rice bran.

For some people, sticking only to foods that lower cholesterol can prove quite difficult. It is important to remember that these are foods to compliment your diet not replace it totally. Of course you need to revise what you eat on a daily basis. You do not have to completely give up all of the foods you love, you just have to be aware of their saturated fat and cholesterol content.

Adding a natural supplement to the process can be especially beneficial and more so if it contains a key nutrient called policosanol. This nutrient balanced correctly with other relevant nutrients can assist the lowering of cholesterol in a natural and safe way and more importantly can help maintain the correct balance of cholesterol in the body.

The dangers of high cholesterol are well documented – heart disease, stroke and in severe cases, death. And it is within our own power to keep our cholesterol levels within a safe range. Combined with a healthy diet, foods that lower cholesterol, exercise and a proven natural supplement, we can live a long, healthy and fulfilled life.

So, go ahead, visit my website today and start taking care of your health and well being and keep your cholesterol levels balanced.

The most common high cholesterol medications on the market today are of course statins. Statins are prescribed by doctors for people with very high cholesterol, considered in the high risk category. They work by reducing the amount of cholesterol that your body makes.

Sometimes statins are combined with other medications which work by not only reducing the amount of cholesterol your body makes, but also, depending on what additional medications you are prescribed, can affect how much cholesterol your body absorbs, lower your blood pressure, increase good HDL cholesterol and lower bad LDL cholesterol. Sometimes other drugs, like niacin, are prescribed with statins.

The fact of the matter is though, that all of those prescribed high cholesterol medications and drugs have side effects. Statins, taken long term, damage the liver. As does Niacin. In fact, a considerable amount of prescribed medication taken over time affects the functioning of the liver. Given the liver is one of our most important organs, it is imperative that we do our best to keep it as healthy as possible and ensure that whatever medications and supplements we put into our bodies do no impair the healthy functioning of the liver.

There is no going away from the fact that high cholesterol needs attention. But there are ways of dealing with it other than resorting to the quick fix of high cholesterol medications. For instance, diet and exercise are important for lowering cholesterol and keeping it lowered. Eating fruits, vegetables, oat bran, rice bran, to name but a few, help tremendously in lowering cholesterol. A little bit of exercise every day, no matter how small, goes a long way to helping to lower cholesterol levels.

And of course, there are natural supplements which protect our body and major organs, that when used in combination with proper diet and exercise, lower our cholesterol levels effectively and help us to maintain good cholesterol levels going forward. It goes without saying that if your cholesterol is in the very high risk category, you may need to initially take prescribed high cholesterol medications, but once they are down to a safer level, I would strongly advise switching to a more natural supplement and maintaining that for long term effect.

I am speaking from experience and thus I am in a position to give solid advice and guidance. Trust me when I say that trying to reverse liver damage from prescription medication is much harder than lowering your cholesterol. Now I know you are probably fearful of trying just any natural supplement and you would be right. A lot of them are all hype and no substance. But there is a natural supplement that is very effective at lowering high cholesterol and sustaining that long term. And more importantly, it does not impair your other organs.

Make no mistake about it, if you continue to use high cholesterol medications every time you need to lower your cholesterol, you will undoubtedly develop adverse effects in other areas, like your liver.

Battling high cholesterol can be extremely frustrating, and especially so if you are not armed with as much information as possible on the natural way to lower cholesterol. The risks associated with high cholesterol are well documented. Leaving it untreated and failing to get regular cholesterol screening can be like playing Russian roulette with your life. Why on earth would you want to do this? Why would you leave yourself open to possible clots, stroke, heart attack or even death in the worst case scenario.

The problem with high cholesterol is that it is silent. You may not experience any noticeable symptoms. There are public cholesterol screenings available regularly throughout the majority of countries, and the reason for this, is that it is such an important topic. They are not there for a day out, they are there to save as many lives as possible. And generally if they tell you that you have high cholesterol, they will give advice on diet and exercise and advise you to visit your doctor. Your doctor will undoubtedly recommend prescription cholesterol lowering medication. I would strong advise that you take the natural way to lower cholesterol route.

And here’s why. It has been proven that prescribed cholesterol lowering medication called statins, affect the liver and, used regularly over time, damage the liver. If at all possible you do not want to risk this. I am speaking from personal experience.

The natural way to lower cholesterol is by taking the following steps:

Change Your Daily Diet

You need to make some changes to your daily diet. Don’t worry, I am not going to go all crazy on you and suggest you eat like a rabbit and give up all the foods you love. I know that will not work as most of us struggle with will power and fail to sustain strict diets. What I will advise is that you cut back on your saturated fat foods, which are red meat (beef, lamb, pork etc.) and dairy products. This can be as simple as portion control and frequency. Reduce your portions little by little and do not eat every single day. Vary your diet to include fresh fruit, vegetables, oat bran, rice bran which will all help lower cholesterol. Limit your intake of liver and eggs, as while they are not high in saturated fat, they are high in cholesterol.

Add Exercise To Your Day

Try to add more daily exercise to your lifestyle. Now I am not asking you to go out and join an expensive gym, simply taking a walk every day is a natural way to lower cholesterol. If you have not exercised at all for some considerable time, and depending on your weight, you may find this difficult at first. But trust me, and again, I am speaking from personal experience, if you take a few steps every day, set a short distance to walk, and keep it up until you feel comfortable, you will be amazed at how good you will feel. When you get comfortable at that distance, go a little bit further and so on.

Lose Any Extra Pounds

If you are carrying excess pounds, then losing a few is a natural way to lower cholesterol. You will be surprised to know that just losing a few pounds can significantly improve your cholesterol level. And you know, if you take the first two actions, you will start to see the pounds shift.

Take a Quality Natural Supplement

A quality natural supplement rich in nutrients like policasanol, can undoubtedly lower cholesterol and more importantly, keep cholesterol balanced going forward. Nutrient rich supplements have proved a natural way to lower cholesterol without the adverse affects associated with prescription cholesterol lowering medications. Beware though, not all supplements offered are as natural as their claims, and not all deliver on their promises.

Through all of the above, I personally achieved my goal of lowering my cholesterol and keeping it lowered. I done all the hard research, testing, evaluating, to get to the natural way to lower cholesterol and have put together more information on my website.

Why re-invent the wheel? The information is all there for you. Visit my website and really start living today.

Dealing successfully with high cholesterol is no mean feat. The risks associated with high cholesterol are well documented and include heart disease, stroke, clots and in severe cases, death. The most effective way to lower cholesterol is through natural cholesterol lowering foods or herbs.

The most important place to start is with your daily diet. A high fibre diet regulates blood cholesterol levels. Fibre will attach itself to cholesterol and transport it out of your system, thus lowering cholesterol.

Natural cholesterol lowering foods or herbs rich in dietary fibre are oats, fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, barley, wholegrain breads and wholegrain cereals. These also serve as anti oxidants which can help prevent blockages in the arteries.

Nuts like almonds and walnuts contain polyunsaturated fatty acids which help with lowering cholesterol naturally. Manage portion sizes of nuts though as they are high in calories.

Omega-3 fatty acids which are found in salmon, mackerel, trout and herring, can also lower bad cholesterol. Other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids are flaxseed, canola oil, soybean oil, and walnuts.

Many natural supplements are also helpful in lowering cholesterol and quality products contain invaluable nutrients from natural cholesterol lowering foods or herbs. Be sure and watch out for these items when choosing a supplement for this purpose:

Lecithin – transports and metabolizes cholesterol and improves liver function
Policosanol – a natural nutrient found in sugar cane that can lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol
Psyilium – a fibre source that can be mixed with juice or sprinkled over cereal
Beta Sitosterol – another natural remedy to consider which reduces the absorption of cholesterol

Speaking from experience, as a long time sufferer of high cholesterol, who successfully achieved lower cholesterol, I can confirm that consuming natural cholesterol lowering foods or herbs works.

More importantly, I have maintained good cholesterol levels ever since.
I suffered with high cholesterol for years, but you do not have to. I did not have the information I needed readily available. I had to research it thoroughly, undertake a lot of trial and error, but I eventually achieved success.

You are now at a crossroads. You can continue to do what you are doing, and all the while your cholesterol is rising, or you can take action now and start living. The choice is yours.

Cholesterol, a required structural element of mammalian cell walls, is a wax-like steroid metabolite observed in cell membranes and moved within the blood plasma of all animals. It’s necessary in order to preserve appropriate membrane permeability in addition to fluidity, and is furthermore an essential component with regard towards the creation of bile acids, steroid hormones, and fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K. While cholesterol is undoubtedly a crucial as well as important molecule with respect to animals, an excessive quantity of serum cholesterol is usually an indicator of health and well-being like cardiovascular disease

The 1987 report of the National Cholesterol Education Program, Adult Treatment Panels proposed that the general blood cholesterol levels ideally should always be: < 200 mg/dL normal blood cholesterol, 200-239 mg/dL borderline-high, > 240 mg/dL high cholesterol. The American Heart Association offers a similar variety of suggestions pertaining to existing (fasting) blood cholesterol amounts along with connected hazards relating to cardiovascular problems.

Yet, although today’s assessment methods assess LDL (“bad”) and HDL (“good”) cholesterol independently, this type of simplified perspective has grown to be fairly out-of-date. The acceptable LDL level is truly thought to generally be less than 100 mg/dL (2.6 mmol/L)[38], although a far more recent goal of < 70 mg/dL may be contemplated for increasedrisk men and women according to newly released studies. A ratio of total cholesterol to HDL (one much more beneficial measurement) of far less than 5:1 is thought of as being better for you.

It is encouraged from the American Heart Association to assess cholesterol at the very least every 5 years for men and women 20 years of age or older.

A simple blood sample, right after a 12-hour fast, is taken by a physician or by oneself utilizing home cholesterol kits to ascertain a lipoprotein summary. This indicates total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, and triglycerides. It is highly recommended to get cholesterol analyzed much more frequently than every 5 years in case an person seems to have overall cholesterol of 200 mg/dL or higher, or alternatively if a man over 45 or a woman over 50 has HDL (good) cholesterol under 40 mg/dL, as well as whenever additional danger conditions for heart disease or stroke can be found. To change mg/dl to mmol/L, divide the mg/dl number by 40.

In case you are beginning a low-fat food regimen, it is a smart idea to make use of cholesterol kits to analyze your cholesterol every couple of weeks to keep track of exactly how your cholesterol level is shifting. Whenever you believe you have effectively reached a suitable level, simple assessing every couple of months should be suitable.

When completed correctly, standard cholesterol kits may be made use of to uncover excessive blood cholesterol levels in as few as three minutes. Just one drop of blood is all that is needed to take advantage of these cholesterol tests and they can be completed in the comfort and privacy of your own house.

There may be significant variability in test results, even if cholesterol evaluating is performed by competent medical professionals in a laboratory. The variability might be even better when using home cholesterol kits, so it is extremely important to carry out the instructions very carefully.

For more information on cholesterol testing, visit cholesterol kits
As a living, aging human, Iam naturally concerned about my overall health and subsequent quality of life. Given the high level of heart disease among people in today’s societies think it is important to take advantage of simple health tests.
Article Source

A cholesterol test is sure to prove very useful because its results will indicate the presence or absence of potential cholesterol problems. The most common test performed is a lipoprotein profile. The presence of bad cholesterol means that plaque builds up inside the arteries and causes blockage in free flow of blood thereby leading to heart attacks, strokes and certain heart diseases.

For those who have attained the age of twenty, chances are that the doctor has already taken a cholesterol reading while giving them a physical examination. It is important that you understand the meaning of the cholesterol numbers so that you can take appropriate steps to remedy problems arising from high LDL cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol tests will reveal certain cholesterol numbers that indicate the levels of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and even triglycerides and the total of each of these constituents. To be sure, the bad type of cholesterol is known as LDL cholesterol while the density refers to the ratio between protein and fatty cholesterol.

Below One Hundred is OK

Thus, LDL or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol refers to cholesterol where ratio of protein is low while cholesterol contains excess of fat, and the opposite is true of HDL or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Thus, typically cholesterol numbers that indicate a LDL cholesterol level below hundred means there is nothing to be worried about. Even if the LDL cholesterol numbers stay below one hundred and thirty, you will be OK with regards to LDL cholesterol.

However, cholesterol numbers in the range of one hundred thirty and above (for LDL cholesterol) means that you need to take remedial action. If your HDL cholesterol numbers are more than sixty, you will also be OK since a high HDL cholesterol numbers is good for you.

A reading of under forty (for men) and under fifty (for women) is bad for you and it would mean that you need to get your HDL cholesterol levels back up to the sixty mark. In any case, the total of both cholesterol numbers should be around the two hundred mark, the desired level.

When you meet with your doctor to discuss your cholesterol you should also have your cholesterol numbers ready because he will need to know these numbers before he can suggest remedies. In fact, it would even help if you were able to find out cholesterol numbers for your other family members since these numbers can also help your doctor get a better idea about possible family history problems and know how to deal with your case from a wider perspective.

Whether you are suffering from moderately high or high cholesterol levels, the primary change required in your lifestyle would be your dietary habits. Even though studies of cholesterol levels for women as well as for men showed that different gender sometimes requires different treatments <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/5290224']);” href=”http://cholesterollevelsx.com/a-cholesterol-diet-can-work-wonders-for-your-heart-and-body/” title=”Cholesterol levels for women”>cholesterol diet combined with regular exercising and cholesterol lowering medications can work wonders with your high cholesterol levels.

Diet can create a severe impact on your overall cholesterol ratio

Cholesterol levels can increase due to various reasons such as your diet, lack of physical activity, hereditary, alcohol consumption, smoking, etc. A dietary change is one of the most essential parts of your cholesterol reduction plan. Monitoring your diet is not just a weight reduction program but it also lessens the risk for those who are concerned about their cardiovascular health as it leads to a heart attack or stroke. There are many diets which directly influence the bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and the good cholesterol (HDL) levels in your body. This enhances an incredible impact on your overall cholesterol ratio.

You can start having a diet which is low in cholesterol and high on unsaturated fat. The foods that are high in fiber and complex carbohydrates are beneficial for lowering your weight and cholesterol levels. Dietary fats are classified into two types – saturated and unsaturated. It is sensible to consume a cholesterol diet that has less saturated fat as this fat elevates the cholesterol levels drastically. Butter, meat, candy bars, ice cream, cakes, poultry, chips, shellfish, cheese or whole milk contain a high level of saturated fat. Avoiding or eating these types of foods in limitation can help you control your cholesterol level elevation.

How do you substitute your saturated fat diet with an unsaturated fat diet?

Unsaturated fat found in food can literally help you lower your cholesterol levels. You can substitute a saturated fat diet with a saturated fat diet. Some of the examples of monounsaturated foods are cooking oils like canola oil or olive oil. Polyunsaturated fats are mostly found in fish oils (also known as omega-3 fatty acids) such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, etc. It can also be found in sesame, corn, soybean, sunflower seed, cottonseed, etc. For beginners, this change over from saturated fat diet to unsaturated fat diet might not be so easy.

The reason why you should not eat too much of high cholesterol food is because your liver, has a natural capability of producing cholesterol for the apt functioning of your body. Egg yolk, meat of organs like kidney, liver, brain, etc., dairy products, some types of fish and shellfish has to be consumed within limitation or as per the instructions from your doctor or nutritionist. Though it is not very easy to reduce the intake of a high cholesterol diet, people do not want to risk their lives with the creeping fear of cardio vascular diseases.

What type of diet helps you reduce your cholesterol levels?

Complex carbohydrates (starch) and fiber rich diets help you tremendously to eliminate excess of cholesterol from your body. These types of food increase the HDL or good cholesterol levels and reduce the LDL or bad cholesterol level of your body. This reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke or coronary artery disease. Low GI (Glycemic Index) foods are a great substitute for high cholesterol or high saturated fatty foods. Foods like vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds, nuts and cereal have absolutely no or negligible amount of cholesterol. Oats, bran, apples, oranges, pears, dried beans, etc., are extremely rich in fiber.

Complex carbohydrates which help you reduce your cholesterol levels are found in your daily cholesterol diet such as rice, potatoes, cereal, beans, breads, pasta, etc. These foods not only help you control your cholesterol levels but they also supply your body with minerals, vitamins and other nutrients. Foods those are rich in carbohydrates like rice, pasta, breads and potatoes are lower in calories in comparison to oily and fatty foods.

Low cholesterol diet will not only control your cholesterol levels but it will also help you reduce your weight and lead a healthy, disease free life.
