An 0844 number, as I mentioned in a previous post, is, in short, a lower-cost premium-rate telephone number. Having said that, 0844 numbers are a lot less expensive than standard premium-rate numbers to call. On the contrary, standard premium-rate numbers, that is, numbers that start with an 090 prefix, usually cost anywhere from 50 pence, right up to £1.50 per minute to call; an 0844 prefixed number costs around 10 pence per minute to call.

Taking all the above into consideration... you might then ask, how can it be possible to make any decent money if my 0844 premium-rate number is earning a mere ten pennies per minute?

It is a perfectly reasonable and fair question. A lot of people may think, "what's the point, I'm not going to waste my time and energy with this," etc. These thoughts are reasonable, but in reality, I feel that those people are genuinely missing out on the potential money making opportunity here. And I say this for two reasons:

The thing you'd have noticed first, was the time it took before you were actually able to speak to anyone. You would've noticed that the calling system used was all virtual, all automated. Just a pre-recorded voice along with some numbered options. You would've also noticed that you were obliged to choose at least one or two options in order to carry on with your call.

These types of virtual calling systems are useful in three ways:

In this post I will try to give you some tips on how to generate ideas for your premium rate number service. Now before we move on we're going to revisit an important question that I had asked you earlier:

Brainstorm this question, and write down every sort of service that springs to mind, every sort of service that you could offer people via a premium-rate number. It doesn't matter how ridiculous or stupid your ideas may sound and seem, get them down!

For the record, pre-recorded and live services provided by your vendor are also commonly known as ready made premium-rate number packages.

Now, it's very important to establish exactly what service you're after. It's also important to bear in mind that not all online premium-rate number merchants offer all of the services above. So make sure you find out what service the online merchants offer. If it's not clear, be sure to email them for clarification.

Once you've bought your line, you should be given an online account. You will use this account to monitor your earnings.

Please note: if the site you intend to purchase a premium-rate number from does not offer this type of account, steer well away and do not part with your money. There are many scam-artists online, so make sure you find a reputable merchant before handing over your well-earned cash.

The Short Philosophy of Advertising/Marketing

Advertising and business, like ducks and water, are inseparable by intrinsic relation. Advertising, marketing, projecting your product (business, services or ideas) locally, nationally, and eventually internationally is the difference between being a small, round-the-way business operation and being a major player - the difference between making enough money to live on, and earning enough to feed a country. Of course, however you choose to spend your profits is your own business. Your money, your business, your product, your success is heavily reliant not only on advertising and marketing itself, but more on your attitude towards the aforementioned.

What Are You Selling or Seeking To Promote?

Define your product or service: to whom does your product appeal? and to which market does it belong? Is the market a profitable one? Does your pariticular product or service have competiton? Can you identify the competition? Remember that competition is not always a bad thing, on the contrary, perspective competition usually implies that there is a vibrant market in that sector. Perhaps, you can learn to, and thereby exploit the competiton. Sometimes the competiton can be so caught up in doing business that they abandon the need to be creative. You may see a gap in the way the competition operates. You may be able to provide the market with product and service + benefits so as to entice market and make it your own.

Be Proactive

Keep your ideas close. I myself always keep a notepad close by. I recommend it. Some valuable ideas can be forgotten if you fail to take note. Equally, in addition to being creative, become a student of successful businesses. Have a look at what advertising tools they use. Be critical, try to ascertain and thereby make the distinction between small business marketing methods, medium business marketing methods and big business marketing methods. Can you implement any of these methods? maybe you can even improve on them? Look at the structure of successful business and ask yourself the question of how you may be able to encorperate the philosophy of their successful operations and apply it your own.

Plan

Analysis is a gift, the need to plan is a given. Devise your own marketing methods in accordance with what you know, with a view to taloring them to suit your product or service in the most efficacious way possible. Can you improve on those methods? I know I may sound robotic, but this is the type of systematic approach required to keep your operation afloat in seas of successful business. On this particular site, this meant that if my premium rate number failed to generate 25 pounds per month, I will not be paid a penny, nor will the amount be rolled over to the following month.

They will keep any earnings I make. Ok, this may not seem too bad, but beware: there are many premium rate number merchants who have much higher thresholds thus making it very difficult to earn any money at all.

2. Line Reclamation(we reserve the right to reclaim your premium rate number)

This meant that if my premium rate number failed to generate more than 500 calls a month, for three consecutive months they will reclaim my premium rate number and sell it on to someone else.
