It is not always easy to get to manage our time because of the many methods that are introduced. However, knowing the basics of time management will prove useful in managing time. For this reason, it is important to have the very foundation strengthened.

Here are the 5 basic good time management practices:

Set your goals

Having a goal gives you a direction and from there, you can chart a course of action. You give a result to be achieved and know how far you want to go. If you do not set your personal goals, it is most likely that you will be guided by those of others. What will happen is you will work to achieve the objectives of the other people. Is this really what you want?

To set an effective goal, it must be specific and clearly expressed. You’ll understand the objectives will enable you to know which direction to take and know the final destination. Goals serve to motivate you. They are your main source of motivation and with it, you will be excited to move forward, to move towards them. You need to define goals clearly and precisely so that you can prepare yourself. It should be easy for you to identify and have a motivating mental image that will push you in the right direction.

Set your priorities

Ok, you have lots of things to do. Daily life is packed with tasks, of obligations, of interactions of all sorts. But it is also filled with distractions from unnecessary tasks and a whole bunch of things that make you waste time unnecessarily. It is also made choices that you make every day and you take the responsibility.

Last but not least, nothing prevents you or prevents you from adopting a system which ensures: on one hand, to spend more time on the things that are most useful and most important to you; and secondly, to prevent you from doing all these activities that will make you preoccupied, but in the end does not give you much in your life.
So before you start to lose in the first activity you take, ask yourself if you do not waste your time and what are the benefits that you can get out of it.

Set a time limit

Limit a task at a particular time so that you can channel his energy and stay focused on what we do. Without setting time limit, you may as well consume a 20-minute one-page report two days to prepare.

Imagine a football game without time limit. Or the factor that says “I may spend tomorrow, or when I have time.” This is absurd! Well, it’s the same with your personal and professional activities. Give yourself as much as possible a deadline for the tasks you perform.

You will adapt naturally to do what it takes in the allotted time, and you will avoid pushing again and again.

Planning

Planning your week and your day allows you to have an overview of your activities. You advance faster by keeping everything in your head. This can make a big difference on the amount of things you can accomplish in the same amount of time.

There is no need to plan everything in your lists. Make sure you put the most important tasks and those that you forward towards achieving your goals.

Normally, you already sort prioritizing your activities. What counts, is not to be constantly busy, it is to focus on doing the right things, those that bring real results.

Perform one task at a time

Today, we are able to work on a project, reading e-mails, answering the phone and see his Facebook page at the same time. What a performance! Many people think that because they are capable of doing several things at the same time, they are more effective. Unfortunately, it is not being ” a multi-tasking modern times “we realize things before others, and certainly not better than the other.

Of course, it is possible to carry out several projects or make a look out to a certain number of employees. But know that you will be much more efficient, alert and focused on finishing each task before moving to another if you do it one at a time.

You should do away from performing too many things at the same time. This eats a lot of time. So remember that doing one thing at a time is more profitable than to multitask and jump from one task to another.

And you, what are your key to good time management? What that gives you the most problems in practice? I would love to hear it in the comment section.

People are continuously looking on what time management is really all about. One reason is probably because their lives are currently messed up because of inability to manage time better. This virtually happens to everyone. People always try to do many tasks at the same time and as a result, they tend to leave things without finishing them. With time management, the mess and the headache can be effectively reduced. Time management involves development of a skill or technique in managing the activities in your personal or business life. It practically encompasses a broad horizon of planning, focusing, prioritizing, delegating and deciding on which action to take.

For an average person who is armed with technical know-how on what is time management, he can easily have set of tasks integrated in a systematic and timely way. It thereby creates ability to control workload and to carve out time limits on when a task should be completed. It therefore creates ease of mind in not worrying about what to do next because everything is planned beforehand. As a skill, it can be fairly learned and can be taught to virtually everyone in the workplace. If you think it is hard to learn then you are wrong. All you need to do is to understand few key things. Below, I will walk you through the corners of time management and make you more excited on your next set of tasks.

Let us start with how we can manage time. Managing time can be easy if we make a plan which will serve as a blueprint in getting things done. Most people do this by developing a list of things to do, putting it on paper, and monitoring progress. One may however notice that the list grows and this is not something that should make you feel like you are not getting any progress. This might mean you have performed some of the things on your list or you need to begin to prioritize to improve productivity. You need to jot down task and other ideas that come in your mind. You can have the list either in a piece of paper or in an electronic system that you can easily get access too. In planning, you should set target dates too so that you will know what needs to be done and the time blocks so that you can move on to another. With proper planning, you will learn to value time more and it will be easier for you to meet your pre-set goals.

Yet another factor that affects time management is your focus. At times, we get stressed in thinking that we have not finished anything. By learning how to focus, we can effectively determine which things on the list should be finished today. We can also redirect ourselves to another task if ever we have reached to the schedule blocks. With focus, we are constantly reminding ourselves of the importance of time management and in so doing, we will always work like we are at our peak time when we are more active in the performance of tasks. This is really a must especially if we have time constraints. When we can focus, we are able to minimize interruptions during peak periods.

Getting to prioritize things is also important. For people who know what time management is, task prioritization can be made with so much ease. What they usually do is to put certain task in daily timetables. They separate these timetables into zones such as morning, afternoon or evening. They then set priorities into low, medium or high and at the same time place time blocks on each of the priorities. Other people make priorities before they get to plan which is also a good idea because what they usually do, apart from setting priorities into low, medium or high level, is they determine what are the easiest things and what are the hardest. Everyone can develop his own method but prioritization should always be considered so that he can work in a much more detailed and organized way.

There are also instances when you need to decide when a time crisis comes into place. By time crisis is meant time constraints, pressures and fear of not completing a task or tasks. This is the time when your decision making skills will be put to test. These are times when you either need to stick on the priority or you need to move on because you are already taking so much time or already consuming preset time blocks. In making a decision, you must consider the set of circumstances, your attitude and try to figure out where your decision might be heading. It is important in time management because it will also define how you truly understand what time management is.

Time management in business is undoubtedly a must. Business owners’ time schedules are really tight. They need to keep themselves at pace with the rising numbers of commitments inside and outside the workplace. They are not only busy but the nature of their responsibilities requires them to work longer hours. Since the primordial consideration for every business is to generate income, owners and managers should be effective in the turf of time management.

Time management is no rocket science. You have to decide and take actions in order to be successful. It requires techniques and strategies where you shall apply tact and skills in order to survive in the business arena. One of the many things you can do is to assign or delegate tasks. In delegating a particular task, you should be able to set timetables. While it is not advised to see be really strict about getting subordinates to follow, you should be able to relay to them that time is really valuable and that you are serious about seeing something get done.

Time management in business can really mean success and being able to meet targets. The owner or manager should develop a list of things to focus on for himself and his people. He must set himself as an example and while he may not be required to work hard, his people should see that he is also willing to sacrifice something for the sake of finishing the delegated tasks. At the outset, he should be able to point out what are the priorities. This way, people and the manager himself knows just where to put focus on.

The priorities may be ranked or may be sequenced in such as manner that no work is being skipped. It is normal in business to have setbacks but these shall not deter the employees from moving forward. This is essential in managing office time right then and there. If mistakes are incurred you should instruct them to move on to the next set of tasks so that there will be lesser interruptions. If you can, be sure to limit the amount of time to undertake the tasks. There may be instances when tasks will ask you to devote more time on it but if time limit is pre-set, the occurrence of work lags can be averted.

Meetings are also common to business. To make sure that you are better able to manage time within the business, you should consider cutting the length of time usually spent on meetings. This may be trivial but this will surely save more time for other tasks. If possible, do not encourage people to multi-task. While there are people who are just good at it but most of the time, people who put more work on their plate commit errors and are likely to leave their work unfinished all the time.

The above time management tips are tailored perfectly for businesses which want to take a leap in their economic endeavors. Time management in business may be one of the things that are not usually given attention but this could well become a determining factor in the failure or success of any business. Time should always be used wisely and must be considered precious. This must not only be stressed to employees but, most importantly, to those who own or manage business so that it will profoundly benefit the business.

Your worst enemy is not your boss or math teacher or your children but TIME, especially the lack of time. This is what prevents from completing the duties and activities of daily life. Imagine that your life is a giant hourglass made from grains of sand flowing down and you’re drowning in the flood of sand – work and chores – flowing constantly. We can learn a lot if we come to realize the importance of every drop of sand as it continues to pour down on you.

It is important to understand how our rest, our sleep and our lifestyle affect our work, our hobbies and our studies. Time management is an organizational aspect of life, and we must give it more attention. However, time management is also part of a personal learning program that allows us to manage our interactions with those around us and to better understand the changes in the environment.

1. Remember to set a deadline for achieving your goals.

Use a time mechanism for each task and you’ll find that your resources are all the “open” opportunities that are yet to be uncovered on another corner.

2 . Prepare for contingencies.

You should always be flexible since every day is filled with surprises. Even if you have the best laid plan and time frame for such plan, accept that from time to time, you need to change your strategy.

3. You are but human.

Accept no human being is supposed to do all on our own. There are things we do better with others and vice versa. Perfection is not a human condition.

4. Specialize, if not, then delegate!

Focus on excellence in what you do well. Enjoy how proper use of time benefits you as you move into new areas that you would like to learn. Delegate to other employees or other professionals the things that you are less capable of doing. When you trust them, you save valuable time.

5. Know your energy rhythms!

This is essential! You should know and honor your energy level. You need to ask yourself. Am I a morning person? If you see loss of productivity at a certain time then you should try to know your own rhythms. This is a great technique to save time.

6. Know what is important and urgent .

These tasks are those that must be done immediately, otherwise you are going to face serious consequences. The payment of bills for example is something that you should not think about missing or else, you will face a far graver consequence. You should know the things that special attention. Consider doing actions that must be performed without delay and give them the highest priority.

7. Focus your actions in the present moment.

Develop habits that will help you to focus on what you do right now. Do not get distracted by thoughts about what you have to do next. You MUST be the “body and soul” of everything you do.

Managing time is perhaps one of the greatest battles man must triumph over. Time is a tricky but wonderful gift from God. As a school teacher, I have seen how time runs in circle. With this, I have learned to fashion my time according to work, needs, and family. In here, I offer time management tips derive from my own experiences.

Let us begin with the question, ‘how to fashion an effective time management scheme’? Well, let us get straight. It comes from priorities. Being a teacher, I have explored reasons why students get late in their first subject. The list would definitely be long. It is because students would give you different reasons. Well some sounded valid but totally unbelievable. But few answered one dignified response which credited my confidence. These few said “time is important but priorities are not set towards the right goal.”

Those students were right. Perhaps, they saw that getting early into the school is not the number one priority they must attend to. So, the time management tips I will give you are a conglomerate of two areas of concern – defeat and success.

Here are the effective time management skills and strategies I have learned over the years.

1. Goal setting. Think of what you want to achieve and accomplish in your day. Goal setting is one effective way of giving a light in your path of preparing for your daily activities. Just make sure that the goals you have set for each day are clear, defined, specific, time-bounded and attainable.

2. Make a plan. For a teacher like me, I always need to have a lesson plan. This plan guides and directs me in my teaching endeavors. The same goes for engineers. They need their blueprints so as to perfect the construction of a building. And everyone needs a plan to successfully carry on a task may it be small or big. Your plan will guide you to the right path and if ever you will be lost you will always have the track to go back and start with.

3. Lay your plan according to your needs. There is no better way to set up your daily activities but by knowing the important things that must be done. If you are done with this, go to the third.

4. First thing first. Always know your priorities. You might be overwhelmed everyday but you must not be carried away. Rank the things you need to do according to their priority or importance. Some find this difficult. But it is not at all. Priorities are those things that keep your survival. So, put the other stuffs in your spare time.

5. Set a standard. Do not forget to set your standard. By this, you have something to follow and measure your work against with. Setting standards gauge our work abilities and capacities.

6. The NO rule. Sometimes there are unexpected activities coming in your way – like friends’ invitations. If your time table tells you that you are free to go then you can. But the problem mostly is this, when you get invitations you have a priority task listed in your time schedule which unfortunately falls at the same hands of the clock. Well, if this ever happened to you, learn the NO rule. Sometimes it is painful to turn down a friend’s invitation. But I guess it would be painful to miss a priority task listed before your friend’s invitation came in. Take note, a priority task means your survival. So, if you do not understand the consequences, read Number 4 again.

7. Check the clock. When you get too busy, sometimes you forget to look at the clock or your watch. Looking or glancing at your clock or watch does not mean you are hurrying time. It means you are monitoring your progress. Check if you are spending your time effectively and efficiently.

8. Evaluate your work at a time. This would mean doing quality work in your time. Have you offered the best and quality service? Have you used every minute the right way? Have you fed your time with the consummate amount of work required?

9. Take a break. While you have a schedule to follow, do not forget to insert a break. Remember that the human body needs rest once in a while. So, take a 10-15 minute break to relax and breathe fresh air. Drink coffee or talk with officemates, classmates, colleagues and what have you.

10. Take a record. Try to record the things you have accomplished or a quick checklist would do the work of a little concept of inventory in accomplishing your tasks.

11. Eat well. Feeding your body with the right food and right amount of vitamins and nutrition will aid you in performing the tips mentioned. Eat well – eating well begets a healthy, well performing body and sound mind.

12. Reflect. Reflect on the things you have done. This will help you indentify your strengths and weaknesses. Highlight your strengths and invest in your weaknesses. This will definitely help you become a better person.

13. Sleep well. Getting enough amount of sleep will determine how well you would implement your daily planned activities. It would even set up the umbrella of bringing together effective and efficient work atmosphere in one’s endeavors.

I hope the time management tips I have fashioned and webbed together for this article will help you improve to become an effective time manager. But always bear in mind that everything will not happen overnight. This takes a lot of patience and perseverance. After all, if you want to be fruitful in your endeavors, a room for improvement will always have its space.

One of the many great gifts given to man is time. It is considered to be a precious gem. Liken to that of a bubble, once it pops you could never get hold of it again. Wise men have said, once a time is spent, the clock will never tick back to undo unwanted occurrences. Accordingly, with the subtle issue of time comes perhaps the ever tricky and even hard to achieve task of time management.

As defined, time management is the process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity. Time management may be aided by a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals complying with a due date (Wikipedia, 2013).

This is where you set the loop. Some people would say time management is very hard to do or exercise because they do not know where to begin. Or would it be more appropriate to say, these people do not really know the real essence of time. Whichever you pick as reason, how to manage time may not sound easy to some but is a very simple task to few.

Time is undeniably gold but also a fiddly aspect of man’s life. How to manage time effectively and efficiently is the resounding theme of this article. Take note, as defined above, time management is the ‘act of planning conscious control of spending one’s time effectively and efficiently’. This takes us your parameter.

Strictly speaking, waking up early, going to school or work and going back to house and vice versa would not really qualify as an effective and efficient scheme of time management. In a layman’s term, this would be the what is called routinary activities. The question now is ‘where to begin?’

Here is the roll!

First, you must acknowledge and accept the fact that time management begins with careful planning of daily activities. When you say careful planning, everything that you are supposed to do are planned and schemed out. (Let alone the little drama entries everyday.) I refer here to the things you want to accomplish every single day – the things which you are supposed to achieve within a given span of time with effective and efficient entrance and exit. But things, they say, may not always happen as planned. So, that is why you must always have plan B.

Second, when you plan, follow your plan! Sometimes people tend to do away with what they have planned because of unforeseen and unwanted circumstances. This is natural. So, when this happens, face what is at hand first – fix it and then simply go back to what is planned. In this beginning stage of realizing your time management skills, it would be helpful if you have a handy notebook or a planner in your pocket. Well, the purpose is if you happen to be easily annoyed and distracted with uninvited events not listed in your daily activities, you can always refer to your notebook or planner and carry on.

Third, buy a dose of creativity, flexibility and common sense. These things are not available in drugstores. These are the attitudes that you must develop, master, control and communicate interpersonally and intrapersonally.

In time management it is important that you must be creative. Life with a monochrome color is definitely boring. It is like you plan what must always do every single day with the same activities from morning to evening lasting until the last day of your life. Well, that is like riding on a bus without looking at the windows. So, being creative means applying different colors from the kaleidoscope of life one at a time.

The aspect of flexibility will teach you to be like the bamboo – pliant with the flow of time and circumstances if faced with unplanned events. Do not panic. Think of a way out. For sure, there is an end in every tunnel of situation.

Common sense is what will keep you alive. They say that common sense is not really common at all today. To some extent, I would believe that it is true. However, it is wrapped in the envelope of irony. You become conscious when you commit mistakes. This is where common sense starts. Committing mistakes facilitates the adrenaline of using one’s common sense. So, do not blame yourself if ever you commit a mistake in the midst of materializing your planned activities for a day.

And I must tell you that there is no overdosage in taking these three vitamins. How did I know? Well, common sense will tell you.

Fourth, be a scientist! In the execution of your planned activities, you must be like a scientist. One who never ceases to discover the wonders of the world. A scientist is one the world’s possessor of the most curious mind and keenest eyes. You must at least try to experiment with your daily activities. Insert, stroke and paint a little a challenge in your busy schedule. Laugh, cry, get excited, get nervous, get hungry, get full – these spices make man’s life an adventure. This may be a funny thought but is true nonetheless. Have you ever noticed the watch in Dora’s wrist? Dora perhaps is the busiest kid in the world. Though she always has a wristwatch with her, I guess this is done not just only to complete her get-up but to let people know that the stuffs she does are planned. Notice that she makes an effective entrance and exit and efficient execution of her plans.

Lastly, do not ever forget to have plan B. Surely when everything is laid perfectly on a planner, you sometimes get excited about starting up your engine. But tarry a little! You must never forget to have a back-up plan. You never know what will happen in your every day. Though you know what you wanted to happen but things may be different in the arena of reality. Do not fret. This is why I mentioned plan B at the first roll of the list. Plan B always comes in handy.

Thus, whatever role you play in the society – may you be a big or a small fish in town, everyone is fair in the aspect of time. God has given every man 24 hours a day. Every day is a make or break for every man. It is up to him how to use it.

Consequently, the cliché ‘time is gold’ resounded in my ears. Indeed true! Time is gold. Philosopher Heraclitus said one can never step on the same river twice. In life, one can never have the same time every day. There is no ‘cuts’ and ‘redos’ but only regrets and mistakes. These are part of man’s life. They make the concept of time management sturdy and a real challenge.

So, how to manage time effectively and efficiently? Common sense will tell you! Try to do what I mentioned above.

One of the most vital skills for an individual to master the strategies for time management. The goal in time management is to regain control of time. However, the often conflicting demands make it difficult even to the most skilled and efficient person to manage all of their day-to-day deadlines and tasks.

In trying to implement the strategies, you can first list all the things to do for one week, and the estimated time it takes. With this, you will be able to see how time is being “spent” at the end of the week. Scrutinize the routine and decide where exactly can changes be created. Gather up all of the daily errands, setting them up at their customary times and letting sufficient time to complete them. Effective strategies for time management will put in control the time that used to drop throughout the breaks.

In addition, you should make sure that you are able to handle interruptions quickly. Mull over on the tasks effectively whenever possible and never forget to focus on the highest priorities based on the defined objectives. Lastly, list all the possible interruptions and have them scheduled. These are easy-to-implement strategies for time management that can be successfully undertaken with proper scheduling and prioritizing.

By making changes every day and using the above strategies for time management, you can really help yourself improve your well-being, reduce stress, enhance productivity, increase focus and manage time effectively.

We all make our best to do one thing – save time. In the office, time is serious and critical after trying to attain our deadlines or trying to set the finishing touches on the monthly reports. By making a few simple changes, we can save the time we need to be able to focus further on the significant responsibilities in our offices.

One of the main causes why office time management should be pushed in a working environment is because working time is limited. We only have about 8 to 10 hours a day to complete all the duties and meet the responsibilities we need to accomplish whether we’re working in a conventional office as a worker or an owner of a home business. One more reason why time management is very significant is because time is money. Once we would be able to complete more tasks, it will undoubtedly result in an increase of our earnings and this can be achieved by effectively running our time.

In office time management, one of the most annoying ways we waste time takes place while we flip through phone and try to find numbers that we use on an ordinary basis. A simple way to stay away from this is by having an inventory of the numbers that we often use and have them placed close to our phone. If we work with a bunch of files on a daily basis, then we have to find a way to assign what procedures are in at any given moment. Loaded up and labeled cases can allow us to sort unending work files, yet easily put our hands on one when needed. Planning is the key in to getting every work done.

Effective time management allows us to make every succeeding matter by being able to make the most of this limited amount of time that we have each and every day. Using an office time management activity could also bring the office staff together. This management doings could be just about anything and everything that our staff need to learn in using time more wisely and productively and would also help learn to rely and cooperate in each other as a team. So, keep in mind that regardless of how demanding our office environment may be, there is for all time a means to help things run more competently.

Over and over again we take notice of people who say that they are stressed to meet up with everything they would like to do in the available time. This, many of us say it is a life’s common difficulty, but to meet people who are experts in running their time effectively and consistently, we will learn to master in using tactics for minimizing time-wasting activities as part of our daily routines and maximizing the use of our time doing important and urgent activities. From them, we will begin to learn good and effective time management skills.

Time management skills help us attain the best use of our time. Making a timetable and following it the most is one way to train proper time management skills and is by far, the first steps towards learning how to manage time. A schedule is simply as good as the time that it follows.

Our time management skills will be improved if we put strategies into practice. We should do first things first. Before we perform anything else, we have to gather a list of all the things that we have to do otherwise all we have is a bunch of plans in our head. If we have large tasks, try to break them down into smaller ones. Once we have written down all the items that we need to do, then, we must put each item in the highest priority.

Build up a routine and start trying to beat previous record each day until we get to a level we are pleased. And never forget to keep any scheduled breaks to a set time and don’t run over. Get ad hoc experts to carry out tasks for us. We can use them over and over again to save our time. Our productivity will soar as we improve time management skills.

In addition, allow some time slots for unplanned tasks. We may not know that some jobs will be coming our way! If we allow time for these unplanned tasks then other important tasks will not get abandoned as a result. Setting up a well-organized schedule and some smart goals are some of the brass tacks to rising effective and successful time management skills.

Determining time management in the classroom is a skill that you will have to develop over time. Time management should be an essential part of those classroom procedures which you yourself value, and help maintain your classroom running so that students know in advance what to look forward to.

Time management in the classroom is the thread running in the course of almost all process of learning and teaching. Effective use of school time starts with well-organized classroom and management and vice versa.

At the beginning, know exactly what you want to achieve. Make clear to your class what they will gain. For you to do more of what’s really important, hand over work to your students. Occasionally, things don’t work out as planned, so just be flexible. After half an hour, provide your students a two minute brain break. Let them talk about anything except the subject matter. Make a plan and expect to finish in time to pack away. Then, have a visible clock on the wall to monitor them to finish on time.

Most of the basics of classroom life that involve time management in several way are planning; paring down paperwork; setting up routines that eradicate wasted time and confusion; using learning centers, self-regulating assignments, and seatwork to provide you time to work with small groups; and making classroom environments that let students and activities to go smoothly from one activity to the next and in the process will show them an idea on how to manage time.
