Parenthood is messy, tiring, exhausting (yes ... there's a difference between tiring and exhausting), educational, loving, and transitional. All of my 31 years have been full of trying to learn as much as I can, grow as much as I can, expand as much as I can, and grow up as much as I can. Needless to say, parenthood has continued the trend.

From elementary school to college, single life to marriage, coloring to working ...this old soul has always been on the go, trying to grasp onto amazing moments and pack my mind full of knowledge. Throw a kid into the mix and I've encountered a whole new self.

What is one of the most amazing parts about parenthood? It has given me the chance to slow down ... a bit. Yes, I'm still always on the go since it's very difficult for me to sit still. I always have an agenda as I try to cross off as many "to do" items on my list as I can throughout the day. I'm not wired to have patience for relaxation.

Even though my son looks like a miniature version of my husband, he definitely has my sense of non-stop, always on the go, can't sit still personality. That's one of the reasons why I live for our mornings together. From the moment he wakes up to the moment he takes his first nap, those few hours are filled with moments that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Those hours take me back to my childhood as I eat breakfast with him, read him books, chase him around the house, color with him, put together puzzles, and teach him words. Yes, there are items on my household and work "to do" lists that try to distract me. Sometimes he helps me take care of the laundry, clean the floors, and dust ... it's never too early to start, right? But when we're not tackling those household tasks together, we are playing to our hearts' content.

Childhood should be full of creativity and fun, playtime and adventure, memories and moments. So, put down your phone, set aside your computer, turn off the television and play. Get down on the floor and color. Splash around in the kiddie pool with your kids. Chase the kids around the home.

Thanks to parenthood, I've developed a whole new sense of patience, playfulness, and creativity. Oh, and a greater appreciation of coffee. Because, let's face it, coffee and creativity go hand-in-hand for us parents, right?

10 Favorite Things: Issue No. 2

From scuffing to decorating to craving to splashing to kicking butt ... yes, this week has been full of exciting favorite things.

10 Favorite Things

1.) First and foremost, my son had his first accident. He was running on the sidewalk, tripped, fell, and broke my heart. In other words, he fell and scuffed his cute, little button nose. He's a tough kid, though. He cried for a little bit and then went right back to his curious self. His nose is almost healed which is such a big relief. Motherhood is quite the roller coaster ride.

2.) Our neighbors were getting rid of two white chairs that I knew would be perfect in our bedroom. So, thanks to their awesome kindness and generosity, those chairs are now in our bedroom. Seriously, we are so excited about the additions. They were exactly what we needed to complete our bedroom decor. Huge hugs go out to them.

3.) I'm totally craving these Salted Caramel Brownie Sandwich Cookies by Donna Hay. I'm seriously wiping the drool from my face. Yum times a million.

4.) Splashing in my son's pool is quickly becoming one of my favorite activities. Watching him laugh, splash, and play is one of life's greatest joys.

5.) My husband has been kicking bootay around the house. We both hated the gold doorknobs throughout our home. So, my husband took charge and has been switching out the knobs throughout our home. Seriously, you would think that a small change wouldn't make that big of a difference. Wrong in so many ways. Seriously, so many ways. That one simple change has made a world of a difference.

6.) My son now says "pasta," "grandpa," and "Caster" (the name of one of our dogs) ... in addition to "dada" and a few other words. He still hasn't said "mama" in a way that I would count him as saying "mama." Fingers crossed that any day now he will say my name and tears will roll down my face.

7.) The weather has been hot which means that my husband and I have been trying to find as many ways as possible to spend time on our screened in porch. Hot weather, amazing wine, grilled food, beautiful sunsets, and amazing company (yes, my super cute husband) ... that's perfection in my book.

8.) We're trying to figure out a great solution for an empty area in our screened in porch. Maybe a drink station is just what we need. What's your favorite drink station item?

9). We started putting plans into place for a backyard fire pit. I seriously cannot wait to make my son his first s'more. That right there, folks, is the definition of childhood. Am I right or am I right?

10.) We lined up some fun little getaways and awesome visitors over the next few months. Hello, summer and good times! What are you most looking forward to this summer?

Yes, I'm a daddy's girl. I always have been. My Dad and I have quite a special bond. We totally get each other through and through. With Father's Day just around the corner, I can't help but be forever grateful for a father who has always been there for me and with me ... through thick and thin.
And now, I get the pleasure of watching my son create an incredible bond with his father. They have tickle fights, laughing fests, and cuddle times. They make each other laugh. They teach each other so much.

Some of my favorite moments during these 17 unforgettable months of having a son have been overhearing my son laugh uncontrollably as my husband tickles him. The laughter that comes out of my son is genuine and full of love. My husband has so much love for him and our little family. I'm forever grateful that I am married to such an incredible father to my son.

In celebration of all of the wonderful dads out there, I'm sharing 10 photos that show some of the unforgettable moments of fatherhood. This Father's Day, I'm encouraging you to grab your camera and/or phone and capture your favorite moment that celebrates fatherhood.

How are you celebrating Father's Day?

Bumps and Bruises

As a mother, you only want the best for your child. You are their number one fan, biggest supporter, cheering section, teacher, and confidant. You shower your child with love and are constantly toeing the line between allowing your child to grow and allowing your child to experience life to the fullest, all while trying to allow your child to learn a sense of independence. You want to be there to dry their tears, comfort their souls, and catch their falls. And then one day, it happens. They fall and you aren't there to catch them.

You hear the scream, see your child look for your comforting arms, and become overwhelmed with worry. Your mama bear kicks into high gear as you rush to your child, scoop him into your arms, and comfort him as you dry his eyes.

That was me the other day. Talk about heartbreaking.

We were just about to enter the church for his baptism meeting. To help him get out some energy, I allowed my son to run around the sidewalk area. And that's when it happened. One small step led to a trip and a fall ... and a scraped nose.

But, as with any kid, my son was strong, brave, and resilient. After a bit of TLC, he was right back to running around like nothing happened.

That's just it ... no matter how much we try to protect our children, there comes a time when they fall. It's those moments that teach them that they can overcome the fall, that they are brave, that they are strong, that they are resilient.

I know that fall is the first of many. He might break some bones, get more cuts and scrapes, and have bruise-covered knees. I'll be there as his mama bear, constantly toeing the line as I watch him grow and learn. And, the wonderful part about it, is that I, too, will grow and learn.

Oh, the balancing act of motherhood.

Simple Hush Puppies Recipe

What's my favorite kind of food? That's easy. Southern. From the collard greens to the macaroni and cheese, from the ribs to the pulled pork, from the corn bread to the hush puppies ... all day ... every day ... every way. I have such a strong love of Southern food that it's verging on obsession. I'm always on the lookout for inspiration to add southern dishes to my repertoire.

What I'm so happy to hear is that I'm not the only one on the lookout for mouthwatering dishes, classic recipes, and inspiring chefs. Who else is with me on this southern-inspired journey? My husband and I have always wanted to go to New Orleans. Now, I can live vicariously through Matt and Ted's adventures in that city and takes notes for our tip to New Orleans next year (can we start the countdown clock now?). What city are you most looking forward to catching in the series?

In celebration of this new series, I just had to share a recipe for one of my favorite Southern dishes. I can't start any Southern meal without popping a few hush puppies into my mouth. Alright, maybe more than a few. Just ask my husband. Hush puppies and I are a terribly mix because I usually end up inhaling them in a matter of minutes (alright, maybe seconds).

Prepare this recipe, sit down and watch Southern Uncovered, and be prepared to have a Southern adventure in the comforts of your own home.

Simple Hush Puppies Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup white cornmeal
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Kosher salt
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
3 large eggs
3/4 cup milk
3 scallions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon vegetable oil, plus more for frying

Directions:

1.) Combine cornmeal, all purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, oregano, and black pepper in a bowl.

2.) Whisk together the eggs, milk, scallions, and vegetable oil in a separate bowl.

3.) Combine the cornmeal and egg mixture. Cover and allow to sit in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

4.) Fill a medium saucepan with 3 inches of vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 325 degrees (use a frying/candy thermometer to measure the temperature of the water).

5.) Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Be sure to now overcrowd the oil.

6.) Flip the hush puppies only once while in the oil. Cook in the oil for approximately two minutes.

7.) Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and allow to drain on a plate that is covered with a paper towel.

8.) Serve hot.

When it comes to landscape photography, certain techniques can be applied to the composition of a photo that add an incredible amount of depth, perception, texture, and contrast. One of my favorite techniques that helps to achieve all of those great, photographic descriptions is the use of leading lines. So, what are they and how can you keep an eye out for them?

What are leading lines?

Leading lines are lines within a photograph that lead the eye to another area of the photograph. Fences, bridges, and even a shoreline are all great items found within a landscape that help achieve the leading line affect within a photograph.

Why use leading lines?

Leading lines are one of the most basic ways to take a photograph from decent to engaging. By using this simple technique, you can create depth, help direct the viewer's eye, enhance the contrast, and draw the eye to the subject of the photograph.

What do leading lines do?

When people view a photograph with leading lines, they usually pause, look longer at the photograph, and become totally immersed in the photographic moment. That's what you want with your photographs, right?

What can be considered a leading line?

In landscape photography, there are items that scream "I'm a leading line" and there are items that are a bit more discrete. One thing is certain, always keep them in mind when photographing a landscape. From bridges to roads, rocks to trees, fences to bridges ... leading line items are out there and can be found almost everywhere.

You guys. This week will go down as one of the best weeks ever. Why? Read on and find out what 10 things I'm crushing on this week.

10 Favorite Things

1.) I finally understand why Beatles fans would cry and pass out when the band entered the stage. I've been the biggest fan of Florence and the Machine for years. I randomly decided to look up their tour dates last week and ... lo and behold ... they were scheduled to be at our local concert venue this week. Um. What. You've got to be kidding me. Oh, and it just so happened to be on a night that my husband didn't have to work. As soon as Flo came on stage, I just about lost my mind. If ever you have a chance to see her, by all means, make every effort. Best. Concert. Ever.

2.) ... which leads me to my next favorite thing. We had our very first real babysitter for our son. Yes, we've left him with family only a few times. However, now that we live in the country and away from family, I was determined to go to the concert which meant that I had to line up a babysitter. Thanks to our awesome neighbors, we lined up an amazing babysitter. While at the concert, she texted us and said, "He was great! Easiest child ever!" Night made.

3.) I figured out what my son means when he says, "Cata!" It's "Caster," the name of our oldest dog. I've been trying to figure this out for weeks.

4.) This S'mores Cake that I found on Pinterest makes me drool pretty much every time I look at it. Are you drooling at it with me?

5.) My Dad turned 60 on Saturday and my Mom is turning 60 tomorrow. I love them to pieces and wish them the happiest of birthdays.

6.) We bought our son his first pool and I'm quickly learning that he is part fish. We spent pretty much every moment that we could today splashing in his pool.

7.) I can't stop snacking on chocolate chip cookies. Want a great recipe that will change your life? Here you go. You're welcome.

8.) We had the biggest pile of mulch delivered to our home. We've been trying to work our way through it as we figure out the gardening situation at our new home. Major props go out to my husband who killed the pile this week (just in time for the driveway coaters who are showing up tomorrow morning). Love you, babe.

9.) I caught my son playing with his baseball glove and baseball. #Heartmelting

Kitchen Hack: How To Check if Eggs are Still Good

So, it's a few days past the "sold by" date on your egg carton. You're craving some homemade cookies. You pace a few times in your kitchen, asking yourself, "Should I throw them out? They should still be good, right? Are 'sold by' dates true? Surely a few days past the date should be fine. Man, do I really want some cookies but I don't want to go to the store just to buy eggs." Yes, we've all been there, right?

The next time you find yourself in this situation, grab a bowl and fill it with cold water. Gently place the egg(s) in the bowl . Since egg shells are porous, that means that they allow air to penetrate the shell over time.

Here's the fresh test:

Fresh Egg: A fresh egg will sink to the bottom of the bowl and lie on its side.
Slightly Old Egg: This type of egg will sink to the bottom of the bowl and will stand upright.
Old Egg: This egg will float at the top of the water since there is too much air inside the egg. Don't eat this egg.

And there you have it. The egg test. It works every time.

It's amazing to think that not too long ago I didn't care for chocolate. Shocking, right? Don't get me wrong. The occasional dessert hit the spot. However, more often than not, that dessert consisted of strawberry flavored ice cream. I usually stayed far away from chocolate as my chocoholic husband enjoyed the chocolateist of chocolate treats imaginable. Then, fast forward to my pregnancy and ... bam. Hello, lover (aka chocolate).

That's right. Pregnancy did me in big time. I was incredibly cautious and careful about everything that I ate while pregnant. From fruits to veggies to a completely balanced and nutritious diet, I wanted everything that was best for the baby. But, there was something missing. And that missing item was chocolate. Oh man did I ever have a sweet tooth.

So, what did I do? I avoided it ... ha! Yeah, right. Instead, I decided to treat myself every once in a while to a chocolate treat. That treat usually was a few frozen chocolate chip morsels from a bag of chocolate chips that I kept in the freezer. Best. Treat. Ever.

After I had the baby, I was hoping that I would return to my anti-chocolate ways. Well, that didn't happen. I remain one of the biggest chocolate fans I know. To me, that is totally unbelievable ... and so awesome. My husband and sister-in-law who are the two biggest chocoholics in the family have welcomed a third member into their club. 10 Sibling Photography Ideas

I have quickly learned that trying to get kids to pose for the camera is almost impossible. Take for example my son. He's one and always on the move. When he's doing something that I absolutely want to capture on film and always remember, he's already on to the next move before I have a chance to click the shutter button. Or, he'll stay in the pose or position long enough until right before my camera is able to capture the moment. Instead of getting frustrated, I keep at it ... and at it ... and at it. I know that I'm bound to capture either the perfect photo or the perfectly imperfect photo.

Kids say and do the darndest things. When left on their own, it's amazing what they live out thanks to their amazing imagination and creativity. Instead of posing your kids, why not embrace the every day moments, smiles, laughs, and creations that make your heart explode?

A Boy and His Books

Most parents usually get a little nervous when their kids are being quiet. Why? When they are quiet, that means that the kids might be up to no good. From coloring on the walls to playing with the toilet paper roll, it's amazing what kids can get into in a matter of seconds. As for our boy, he's definitely different. If he's quiet, nine times out of 10, we walk into his play room and find him in his teepee covered in piles of books as he flips through the pages. Ever since he was born, he has loved books being read to him and flipping through the illustrated pages.

Growing up, I had such a strong love for books. Whenever I wanted a new book at the store, my Mom always made a point to purchase the book and allow me to bring it home. I cherished my books and kept them proudly displayed on my bookshelf in my bedroom. After completing a book, I would sit, think about it, and then place it on the bookshelf. Living through the words, emotions, and experiences in the writing was such a unique adventure as a child.

English class was by far my favorite since it introduced me to so many classic writings. Sitting in a classroom group and discussing what was read was such an invigorating experience. I absolutely loved listening to and learning about the perspectives that each of my classmates had after reading exactly what I read. Viewpoints were also strong and, more often than not, different. Meanings were always put to the test. Thoughts were always provoked.

To watch my son become enthralled and enthusiastic about books has been one of the highlights in his countless developments. Watching him carry books around the house makes my heart explode. Seeing him flip through pages of books makes my love for him grow. Reading books to him makes those moments unforgettable.

When he's not sitting in his teepee looking through his books, he's on my lap. Yes, those are the moments that will live in my mind forever. Instead of sitting by me, he will grab his favorite book, turn around in front of me, and back up until he is perfectly positioned to fall right into my lap. We'll sit there and read book after book and I'll watch as he claps, points, and learns.

Motherhood is filled with so many special, unforgettable moments. Him reading in his teepee? Yes, that moment goes right up there with the best of them. He's my bookworm and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Moscow Mule Cocktail Recipe

The days are hot. The days are muggy. The days are filled with sunshine. Yes, we are finally in the thick of spring time with the birds chirping, the grass growing, the temperature rising, and the summer approaching. Our days are filled with working at our jobs, playing with our son, tidying up the house, going on walks, grilling recipes, spending time in our screened-in porch, and tending to our yard and gardens. After a long day out in the heat, there's nothing better than a refreshing reward.

I've always wanted to branch out and try new cocktail recipes. With all of the different mixes and types, there are so many options that sound like the perfect cocktail on a warm night. With great aspirations, I always end up finding myself with a glass of red wine in hand. Why experiment when I know what I like?

Wrong.

Yes, I recently realized that I need to start experimenting. Although red wine is where it's at ... there are things like a Moscow Mule that immediately open my eyes and my taste buds. Talk about delicious.

Oh, and fancy too. I mean, it's served in a copper mug for crying out loud. The color of the mug combined with its ability to keep the contents extremely refreshing helped to make this cocktail recipe one of my new favorites. A huge thanks goes out to our neighbors for introducing us to a cocktail that has immediately made it onto our "go to" list.

So, naturally, I'm now intrigued ... what other cocktail recipes am I missing out on lately? Help me branch out from the predictable glass of red wine. I beg of you.

Moscow Mule Recipe

Ingredients:

2 ounces vodka
4-6 ounces ginger beer
1/2 lime
sprigs of mint

Directions:

Place ice cubes in a copper mug.
Pour in the vodka and ginger beer.
Squeeze the lime on the vodka mix and stir to combine.
Top with the lime and sprigs of mint.

Fruit Recipes for the Spring

Open our refrigerator and you'll most likely find fruit carton after fruit carton. From blueberries to strawberries, blackberries to raspberries, we always need to make sure that we have a lot of fruit to keep our "fruit fly" happy. One of the great things about our son is that he's not picky when it comes to food, especially fruit.

It doesn't matter what we put on his tray, it always ends up in an eating contest as he shovels handfuls into his mouth as quickly as possible. His absolute favorite snack is endless amounts of fruit. I kid you not. Needless to say, we go through our fair share of fruit and we often find ourselves making multiple trips to the grocery store every week to maintain our full stock of fruit.

Drive to our home and you'll see sprawling farm fields, as well as endless hills and mountains. Even though we recently did the baby crawl from the city to the suburbs and traded the sounds of the city with the sounds of the country (hello, cows), we thankfully aren't too far away from our basic needs. Yes, I'm talking about a grocery store. Drive a little outside of our development and you'll come across a Safeway store that (thankfully) is always there to make sure that our fruit supply is fully stocked.

Since we moved into our house last fall, we've been trying to decorate every room in our house to make it a home. From new carpet to wall decor to new counter tops, our house is definitely reflecting our rustic, farmhouse style that makes the place comfortable, cozy, and welcoming. Our new decorating adventure has been our basement. Now that we have new carpet in that area of the house, we moved our bar into the main area. When creating a rustic table setting, be sure to keep one word in mind: simple. That's right, keep it simple.

10 Tips for Rustic Table Setting

1) Use mason jars to hold flowers and/or act as drinkware
2) Serve food on round white plates to allow the food to pop and look appetizing
3) Place glass jars on the table to hold water
4) Place linen napkins at each table setting.
5) Feel free to add a sprig of rosemary to the linen napkin to not only add a nice touch but to entice the nose
6) Add place cards to keep your guests from guessing where they should sit
7) Light non-scented candles ... scented candles have a tendency to mask the smell of the food and confuse the nose
8) Change up the traditional place mat by using decorative paper place mats
9) Fill jars with low white flowers so that people can see each other across the table
10) Feel free to mix and match silverware, glasses, and serverware to give your setting a relaxed feel but be sure to follow a common theme

Day in and day out, our days can be filled with routine after routine. My son wakes up around the same time every day, eats an insane amount of food, plays around the house, harasses the dogs, laughs, reads, plays outside, goes on walks, gets ready for bed, and goes to bed at the same time every night. If there's one thing that works with this toddler, it's routine. It helps us keep our sanity while chasing after and caring for a one-year-old. But what transforms the mundane to extraordinary?

Those special moments. When I walk into his room in the morning, I always make sure that our dog, Tugboat, is the first thing that he sees. The result? Incredible laughter as he yells, "Dog! Dog! Dog!" When he's done eating, he holds up his hands and says, "All done!" When he chases after the dogs, he turns to me and lets out the biggest belly laugh. When he plays outside and becomes fascinated by a twig or leaf.

I live for these special moments that turn the everyday routine into an extraordinary moment.

The other day while were were playing in his playroom, I quietly left the room to get my camera. I needed to capture these moments. My son was totally in his element. Reading books, chasing after the dog, playing with his blocks. This was my son and I needed to capture these moments that so clearly defined him at this age.

So many times people wait for the "photoworthy," award-winning moments. But what about photographing the everyday moments?

What toys do your kids love to play with at this age? Playing with books, blocks, and dogs. So, I captured those toys in this photo series.

What is one of the activities that my son loves most? Harassing and chasing the dogs. So, I captured that moment.

Where can I usually find my son when he's quiet? Reading in his teepee. So, I captured him doing just that.

This is what our days are filled with. This is what brings me so much happiness and joy. This is what helps turn the mundane into extraordinary.

The Hardest and Best Job in the World

A mother's love is quite an incredible thing. Her patience is put to the test. Her understanding has no boundaries. Her shoulders can feel the weight of the world. Her mind never seems to stop worrying, caring, thinking. Her eyelids can feel so heavy at times. Her body can go through so many changes. Her nights can be sleepless. Her days can be filled with a constant balancing act. Her being can be pulled in a million different directions. Her love is the best thing in the world.

Motherhood has taught me so much about myself ... from understanding this new side of me, to having an even greater appreciation for my Mom, to caring for a child, to practicing patience, to falling in love with my husband all over again, to trying to master the ultimate juggling act, to not worrying about judgements, to understanding that I'm doing all that I can do to make sure that my son has a good upbringing, to embracing the mama bear inside me.

Entering motherhood, I had so many questions. Am I going to be a good mother? How will I raise a child? Am I going to be able to provide my baby with everything necessary? The whole idea of motherhood was filled with so many unknowns. And then, they placed him into my arms. At that moment, a new definition of love was created and I was introduced to the new me. I was a mother.

I never knew this kind of love. I never knew this kind of tired. I never knew this kind of patience. I never knew this kind of pride. I never knew this kind of protection.

Looking back over the past 16 months, there have been good days and bad days, tired days and energetic days, happy days and sad days. With each passing day, I look forward to what's to come. What word will he learn today? What new foods will he try today? What new adventure will he create today? Experiencing life through the actions and eyes of a child is so refreshing and unlike any experience.

When all that I want to do is sleep, seeing his smile when I open his bedroom door every morning starts my day off on the right foot. When my patience feels tried, all that it takes is hearing his laughter as my husband tickles him. When my entire being feels exhausted, a simple snuggle from him puts energy back into my day.

This job is tough. This job is trying. This job is messy. This job is so incredibly awesome. Being a mother is one of the hardest and best jobs in the world. To all of the moms out there, you're doing a great job. I want to wish each and every mom a Happy Mother's Day.

Moms, I have a challenge for you. Step in front of the camera. Document your life with your babies. Document yourself. Document the best times, the hard times, the tired times, the fun times. Before we know it, times passes by in the blink of an eye. One moment you're pregnant. The next moment you're packing up the car to drop your child off at college. The moment after that you're watching your child walk down the aisle. Soon, you're welcoming your grandchild into the world. Life is fast. Life is amazing. Life is full of special, unforgettable, and absolutely incredible moments.
As Moms, we feel tired as we cruise around town or change diapers in yoga pants while rocking ponytails and bags under our eyes. We may not always feel our best. But, I can't stress how important it is that you capture those special moments with your kids.

As a photographer, I'm always behind the camera capturing my favorite moments. Soon after having my son, I started to realize, as I was scrolling through my photos, that I wasn't in any of them. I began to feel a bit sad about that realization. Instead of letting that feeling get the best of me, I fell fast in love with the selfie. Selfies get such a bad reputation. However, if it hadn't been for the selfie, I wouldn't have so many treasured moments of my son and me. I'm telling you now ... embrace the selfie. Oh, and if you have a tripod, embrace that too, along with the camera timer.

Don't use excuses. Capture yourself with your children and cherish those moments forever. Here are 10 photos that celebrate motherhood in such a beautiful way.

Flower Photography: 5 Tips for Photographing Tulips

The temperatures are rising, the raindrops are coming and going, the birds are chirping, the buds are sprouting, and the tulips are blooming. One of my favorite flowers is the tulip. Why? They introduce us to the spring season, they are vibrant and cheerful, and yet so simple and classic. With tulips sprouting all over, how do you capture all of their beauty?

5 Tips for Photographing Tulips

1.) See the Flowers Eye-to-Eye

Instead of shooting down on the flowers, why not get up close and personal with the flowers? Get down to their level and get the full range of their growth and beauty. By photographing from a new perspective, you'll present the flowers in a way that isn't often viewed.

2.) Capture the Details

Tulips have so many nooks, crannies, and colors. Fill the frame with one flower or multiple flowers. However, be sure to get at least one flower in focus to show all of the beautiful details of the flower.

3.) Pay Attention to the Background

The last thing that you want to do is photograph a beautiful flower only to realize that the items in the background are not complementary. Be sure to pay attention to what's in the background and make sure that the background is enhancing the photo instead of taking away from the photo.

4.) Avoid Windy Days

If you are photographing the flowers on a windy day, tulips are top-heavy so they might appear a bit sideways. Instead, pick a day that provides the right amount of light and very little wind in order to capture these flowers on their best day.

5.) Use Focus to Your Advantage

Often, tulips can be found in a large grouping. Instead of focusing on the flower that is front and center, why not drive the eye to the center of the grouping? By doing so, you'll give the viewer a fresh perspective.

Black, Tan, and White Bedroom Design Ideas

We moved into our new home last fall and it's now spring. Usually, I'm the type of person who has no patience and needs to get the decorating done right away. Like yesterday right away. I have no patience allowing a room to sit bare with no use. Within days, our new house was unpacked and rooms were starting to come together. Ever since then, it's been a matter of turning this house into a home by placing items in every room that warm up the space. As for my bedroom, I think it's feeling a bit neglected.

All that we have in our bedroom is a bed, headboard, three photos hanging above our bed, dresser, a clock on the wall, two nightstands, and two dog beds. That's it.

*insert sad trombone noise here*

Lately, I've been searching for ways to warm up the space. I would love to add another dresser, maybe a few chairs to make a reading space, a table, and more photos. And, as usual, I turn to Pinterest for my inspiration. Since I stick closely to the black, white, and tan rustic farmhouse design, I'm sharing some of my favorite designs that I have come across recently.

10 Ways to Clear Clutter

I cannot function in a space that is dirty or cluttered. A cluttered house, to me, results in a cluttered mind. By allowing everything to have a space and be clutter-free, you'll feel better, more organized, and ready to hit the ground running every day. The simpler, the better, right?

10 Ways to Clear Clutter Out of Your Home

1.) Use baskets to store toys, clothes, etc.

Baskets help to keep items organized all while being a stylish, decorative item in your home. For basket ideas, check out this post.

2.) Store the dog food.

Instead of rolling down the top of the dog food bag and storing it in a corner of the house, why not use a galvanized bin to store the food and keep it fresh? For dog food storage ideas, check out this post.

3.) Put away the laundry.

Yes, I know that laundry can be a pain in the you-know-what. But, if you let it pile up, then your clothes will be all wrinkled and you'll be living among piles of clean and dirty clothes. Who wants to live that way? Instead of procrastinating, fold your clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer and then put them away. Dedicate spaces in your closet and drawers for specific items. That way, you'll have an easy system to follow when putting away clean clothes, towels, blankets, etc. For laundry ideas, check out this post.

4.) Clean the kitchen every night.

Don't go to bed with a messy kitchen. Waking up to counters and a sink full of dirty dishes will not help you start the day on a fresh note. No matter how tired I am, I always give myself a pep talk before heading to bed and stop in the kitchen to make sure it's clean before I head upstairs. 5.) Organize the mail.

Every day, go through your mail and immediately organize it. Toss/recycle any items that you don't need. File bills. Store magazines. A mail organizer is super helpful. For mail organization tips, check out this post.

6.) Make the bed every morning.

After you wake up, between taking care of the kids and trying to find time to shower and make a cup of coffee, the last thing that often comes to mind (if it comes to mind at all) is your bed. Who has time to make a bed every morning? I get it. I also get that making the bed every morning makes such a big difference in simplifying life. Why? It's a great way to start your day. 7. Use clear storage jars and bins.

In our storage room, I made sure to use clear storage bins so that I can easily see the contents of each bin. When I store pens, scissors, etc. on my desk, I prefer mason jars so that I can easily locate what I need. In our garage, my husband has clear bins on shelves so that he can see what's in each bin. usig clear storage jars and bins reduce the amount of searching time required to find items. 8. Purge on the regular.

At least every six months, I will go through the closets and drawers throughout our home and purge/donate items that we haven't used. Create a system that works for you. By purging on the regular, you'll reduce the clutter throughout your home and not allow items to pile up over the years.

9. Buy white linens, plates, etc.

I'm a huge fan of white linens and plates. Why? Because a stack of white towels reminds me of a spa or hotel. White plates remind me of nice restaurants. They provide a sense of freshness and cleanliness. For more entertaining ideas, check out this post.

10. Clean as you go.

Instead of dedicating one day a week to cleaning, clean as you go. I like to do a few cleaning tasks every day. That way, the house stays clean throughout the week and then I don't have to dedicate one of my weekend days/days off of work to cleaning the home. Don't get me wrong. I love to clean and I find that it's a stress reliever. But a whole day of cleaning? No thanks.
