You may think that hypnosis is a fairly recent type of technique, or that at least the modern uses for it haven’t been around for too long.

In fact, the practices involved in hypnotism have been around for centuries. Amongst the earliest users of hypnosis for health reasons appear to have been the inhabitants of India, who had dedicated sleep temples where sufferers of different ailments were made to sleep using a form of hypnosis.

Similar types of sleep temples were used in ancient times in Egypt. A report from around 1550 BC described the death and rebirth techniques which involved terrifying out of body experiences. These were certainly nothing like the safe types of hypnosis carried out these days. Of course, the reasons for using a hypnosis type technique were very different from the reasons we have nowadays, although there is also evidence that they used chanting and similar hypnosis inducing routines to cure illnesses and possibly mental problems too.

The ancient Chinese were hugely advanced in many fields of science and medicine, so it is no real surprise to learn that one of the greats of early Chinese medicine, Wond Tai, wrote around 2000 BC (although this date varies from account to account) about the use of chanting and passing hands over the patients which seems to be a variation on the hypnotic approach used in other parts of the world.

If we move forward to the 4th century BC we can see that the Greeks has over 400 sleep temples where ill people would be put into a trance or sleep like state. After a priest got the person suffering the illness into a hypnotic state through chanting and spells they would keep them like that for up to three days while making a series of suggestions aimed at curing their problems.

Around the start of the 11th century the Persian physician Avicenna wrote a book called “The Book of Healing” and is widely credited as being the first person to clearly define the difference between being in a hypnotic state and being asleep.

Around the 1770s the Austrian physician Dr Franz Mesmer began to look at the subject and from his surname the word “mesmerism” came into use. He also coined the phrase “animal magnetism”, although his magnet based approach to healing was later discredited.

In the mid 19th century the Scottish surgeon James Braid gave the world the word “hypnotism” and is one of the most important figures of modern hypnosis theories, as he looked to give the subject a solid and logical basis. His full phrase, which comes from Greek and means “nervous sleep”, was “neuro-hypnosis”. He later settled on “hypnotism” as the name, with “hypnos” simply meaning “sleep” in Greek. After he came to the conclusion the hypnosis was not really related to a state of sleep he attempted to change the name he had put on it, but it had already become too popular to be amended by that stage.

After Braid’s death the next wave of investigations was mainly carried out by mental health experts rather than surgeons and some religious misgivings around hypnosis were cleared up by Saint Thomas Aquinas and the Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office, who both confirmed that provided that it wasn’t used for illicit purposes there was nothing inherently wrong or immoral about it.

The American Civil war then saw widespread use of hypnosis by doctors when treating injured soldiers. The result s which have been recorded were very positive but the imminent introduction of chemical based anaesthesia would render it virtually obsolete for field doctor use.

In the 1930s the Yale University psychologist Clark Leonard Hull conclusively proved that hypnosis has nothing to do with sleep and also helped disprove some of the more outlandish claims made by hypnotists of his time.

The history of hypnosis is filled with a lot more interesting facts and important names, all of which has led us to the privileged position we are now in; that of having a wealth of scientific and anecdotal evidence of the powers and limits of the technique.

There is a theory, which you may very well have heard at some point, that undergoing hypnosis is a dangerous situation to put yourself into. So, is hypnosis dangerous?
This idea probably comes about because of a number of different sources of information which give a misleading perception of what this procedure actually involves.

Let’s take, for example, the classic thriller movie where a good guy is hypnotised by the baddie to do something such evil as kill the President or rob a bank. The power of the movies is such that even though most of these films are ludicrous comedies or spoofs the image still sticks in our minds. However, this just cannot ever happen in real life. You simply can’t be made to do something which goes against your moral values when a baddie clicks his fingers or mentions a certain word, although it makes for a good film script admittedly.

Another example is of the stage hypnotists who make members of the audience run around like demented chickens, sing out of tune or do other silly things. This is again a false impression of the powers of hypnosis. Most of these stage acts are built around people who are playing a part and acting during the show.

The other case which makes people wonder whether hypnosis is dangerous is the worry that once you are in a trance you won’t wake up again. There is absolutely nothing to worry about here, as being hypnotised just means that you are in a perfectly normal state from which the worst that can happen is that you waken up before the session is over. Lots of studies have been carried out and hypnotists who have worked with thousands of people confirm that no one ever gets stuck or unable to wake up again.

Is hypnosis dangerous? No, it is a completely safe and natural process which can be used in a wide number of cases to benefit the patient.

We looked in the first part of this article at 4 different types of people who might make good hypnosis subjects for you. Here we will look at 3 more factors which can influence how easy it is to hypnotise a person.

5.	Someone who is concentrated on the situation. This basically just means someone who is focussed on following your prompts and who doesn’t let their attention wander to other things. Carrying out the hypnosis in a place free of too many distractions is the best bet for helping them concentrate.

6.	A person who is relaxed. Someone who is tense and uptight can be difficult to hypnotise. Getting them to relax and open up is one of the greatest skills that a hypnotist needs to learn. Spending sufficient time putting your subject at ease is an essential part of the whole process and should never be skipped.

7.	Someone who puts their complete trust in you. We all know that letting someone hypnotise you means putting a great deal of faith in them not doing you any harm while you are under their spell. Some subjects have more trouble in setting aside their worries and letting the hypnotist do their job than others. This is the reason why a lot of hypnosis attempts fail, particularly when it is beginners who are trying it out for the first or second time. The person being hypnotised has to be feel complete trust in what the hypnotist is going to do, and this goes back in part to the previous point about getting them relaxed. A professional and open approach should help your subjects believe in you.

In general, it is believed that up to 90% of people can be classed as hypnotisable, and learning the right techniques and being confident when using them can often be the key in making sure that the person responds to your prompts.

When you begin to learn how to hypnotise people you may wonder what type of person makes a good subject for hypnosis.

It was commonly thought that gullible, easily led people were the best types of subjects to be put under a spell, but recent research gives us an idea of some of the factors which can influence how easy it is to hypnotise someone.

1.	Imagination. Subjects with a vivid imagination are usually easier to hypnotise than those who don’t possess this. Anyone who can easily imagine themselves in other situations or as someone else is a good subject for you.

2.	Age. It appears that older people are more difficult to hypnotise than younger ones. It is not clear exactly why this is the case but some theories suggest that it could an effect of the decrease in imagination which generally comes with age. Some research concludes that a poor memory in older people is what leads to their declining imagination and therefore poorer hypnotisability.

3. Sleep walkers and talkers. Those who tend to talk in their sleep are very good hypnosis subjects, while people who walk while sleeping are even more likely to go under fairly easily. Hypnosis is actually used very often by people who want to lose the potentially dangerous activity of wandering about the house while sleeping.

4.	Someone with an open mind. There is a mistaken belief that being hypnotised shows a weak mind or lack of intelligence. This is not the case at all, as we can see from the other factors on the list. However, if someone had the set idea that they don’t want to be put under then the chances are that they will be able to resist. Anyone who keeps an open mind and wants to be hypnotised is a good subject.

Please read Part 1 – 6 Different Uses For Hypnosis Part 1

In the first part of this article we looked at three of the top reasons for learning hypnosis. Here we will go on to look at three more reasons why people find this technique invaluable for solving certain difficult problems in their lives.

4.	To stop smoking. The number of people who want to give up smoking is increasing all the time, as health campaigns and public opinion show it to be an undesirable and highly unhealthy habit. Unfortunately, it is also a serious addiction which can be extremely difficult to kick even when the smoker is desperate to find a way to break free of their need for cigarettes. Most smokers who want to give it up spend a lot of money on patches and other nicotine replacement therapy, but in independent studies hypnosis has been shown to have a far higher success rate. If the therapy is done properly then between 2 and 4 sessions should give a positive result, with a 60% to 70% success rate being claimed by some professional hypnotists.

5.	To unlock potential. Very often the key to solving the big puzzles in life is contained in the head of the person who most needs to find it. People who underachieve at work or who constantly fail in their personal lives can use hypnosis to find out what it is that is holding them back and stopping them from obtaining the life that they want to have. Subtle suggestions and the unblocking of psychological barriers can be enough to give someone the strength and resolve needed to change their life for the better.

6.	To help you lose weight. This use for hypnosis techniques comes as a surprise to some people, but it can be used as part of a structured programme to help you think more positively about yourself and to stick to your goals.

Whatever your reason for wanting to learn hypnosis, these benefits are things you can pass on once you have reached a good level and are confident of your new skills.

Learning hypnosis is something you may consider doing for fun but it also has some serious benefits which can help out other peoplein a lot of situations. Here we will look at some of them. It should be pointed out that some of the ideas mentioned work with advanced types of hypnosis which need an expert touch, some forward planning and great patience.

1.	To overcome phobias. Most of us are afraid of something, and even if we know that the fear is completely irrational there are very few ways to overcome this in a natural way. Some people suggest “facing up to the thing we fear” as being the solution but this is something most phobia sufferers instinctively shy away from. A far better solution is to use a series of gentle hypnosis sessions to softly break down the person’s fears by finding out what caused them in the first place and then make them see the object or situation they fear in a new light.

2.	To improve self esteem. Many people go through their lives with a low opinion of themselves which they just can’t seem to improve. This is an extremely sad state of affairs as it is a problem which is completely avoidable. Some well planned hypnosis sessions can subtly improve the subject’s confidence and give them a new outlook on life. It can also be used to increase assertiveness, something which can be a great help in both your private and professional life.

3.	To cut out stress. This is particularly useful for people who have a big exam, an important presentation at work or some other potentially stressful event. A session of hypnosis therapy can be used to help us channel the stress into positive energy which can help us give a better performance and enjoy the occasion more.

If you know anything about the power of hypnosis, you are one of those people who want to learn how to hypnotize a person. While there are many of us who have seen the far fetched stories in books, magazines, and even seen some of the silly hypnosis tricks on television, hypnosis is really an art that can be learned and mastered.

Few people are aware of the overwhelming scientific evidence for hypnosis as a way of reducing or eliminating pain, accelerating healing, achieving goals or breaking habits, but those that do know the power really do want to learn how to hypnotize a person.

Learning how to hypnotize a person can be very simple, but you must know that like any art, you will want to study it thoroughly and get it in your head so that you can do it effectively. You may not do it well the first couple of times, but the more and more that you understand the power of hypnosis and the control that you can have during hypnotizing someone, you will get more at ease in doing this.

The most important thing to remember is to always make sure that you are confident enough in yourself. The person that is allowing you to hypnotize them will definitely want to know that you know how to hypnotize a person and that you will not fail them. If they feel like they are in good hands then they will be more apt to letting you have control over the whole process.

Whether you are wanting to learn hypnosis to use it on your boss, co workers or for personal reasons, you will be glad to know that there are thousands of people who are getting paid every single day ridiculous amounts of money for hypnotizing people. There really are people that are looking for help with hypnosis and are looking for people like you to help them with their problems; whether it is to lose weight or to get rid of an addiction like smoking, there are millions of people across the globe that are willing to pay someone who knows how to hypnotize a person effectively and correct some of those issues or concerns that they have inside.

You will learn that you can hypnotize people in two ways. In first type, you hypnotize people with their permission. In this type, you hypnotize people using hypnotic voice and techniques. So you put a person into a trance state and make your commands. They will obviously know that you are hypnotizing them. While on the other hand, the second technique is called covert hypnosis which is the exact opposite where the person does not know that they are being hypnotized. These two methods are the most commonly used and an individual that knows how to hypnotize a person will be able to determine which method is best for every situation.

If you want to get ahead in your career or your personal life you need to learn how to hypnotize people. This doesn’t mean that you are going to make everyone you meet do something silly. The skill set you will gain will serve you in all areas of your life and you will finally reach the success you crave. It doesn’t matter whether you want a certain girl to fall in love with you or the perfect man! Perhaps you want a promotion or really need some help to score that new job. Being able to convince everyone you meet that you are the perfect candidate is a real gift. You can learn how to do this. You simply need to follow a recognized program and learn the real benefits of hypnosis.

Some people say Winston Churchill and other leaders such as J.F Kennedy were charismatic. What is charisma? It is the ability to make others think you are wonderful. It is having the gift of being able to create rapport immediately. Some people think it is not possible to learn to have this affect but the truth is you can. The aforementioned leaders had the ability to use hypnotic techniques to their full advantage. They hypnotized other people in a good way. They knew how to make people relax in their presence and to keep an open mind. Having an audience listen to you with an open mind is half the battle to success. You have fewer negative reactions to overcome.

If you learn these techniques properly you will be able to help others and not just yourself. Do you know someone struggling to lose a few pounds? Or perhaps somebody you love wants to give up smoking but as yet has failed to succeed. You may have children who are lacking in confidence or facing issues at school. Perhaps they have a fear or phobia that is causing them problems. Whatever the issue, you will be able to help them achieve their dreams if you master these techniques.

Knowing how to hypnotize people is a skill and one that should be used carefully and not abused. People will wonder how you are so creative and will be keen to spend more time with you. You will master the skill of keeping your mind fresh, positive and open to new experiences. Having a positive attitude means you will be open to new ideas and will see opportunities that other people, who are concentrating on their negative thoughts, miss.

You will never need to worry about sleepless nights or lying awake worrying about fears or phobias. You can control your mind and use this knowledge to help others to control theirs. Your subconscious mind is very powerful and has a huge influence on every decision and action you take. When you study hypnotherapy you will learn how to master this part of your mind and harness its power to achieve your full potential.

Knowing how to hypnotize people will help you achieve everything you want and more.

More people are interested in finding out how to hypnotize someone than ever before. People used to be afraid of hypnotism as they didn’t like the power it seemed to have over people. We have all seen people acting like chickens or doing other silly tricks following a hypnosis session on stage or on the TV. These tricks do an injustice to the hypnotic arts.

Hypnotism is a fascinating field. When used properly you can help people get rid of all their fears and limiting beliefs. You can help them to overcome their phobias. For example someone may be afraid of flying. If they get a job that involves a lot of travelling this will become a serious issue for them. It is difficult to cure this type of phobia but a well trained hypnotist will be able to help. They can also help people to lose weight and to stop smoking.

You should never try to hypnotize someone without their permission. It is possible to do using a technique called covert hypnosis but this is best left to properly qualified psychologists. When you have the person’s permission to proceed you need to act confidently and get them to trust you completely or else the session will not be effective. You want to access their subconscious mind and the best way to do this is to engage them in conversation until they drift off into their thoughts. This may sound difficult but with the correct techniques and training you will quickly master this art.

The more you learn and practice the more proficient you become.

Can you learn how to hypnotize someone from reading some article? Not really. You may pick up a couple of tricks in a similar way to the fact you can learn how to do magic tricks but this is not real hypnosis. The only way to become an expert at this art is by studying and working under the guidance of someone who has already achieved expert status. The good news is that you do not need to pay for one to one training but can use a recognized home study course. This gives you the freedom to learn at your own pace.

The process of hypnotizing someone always starts with relaxation. It is virtually impossible for a novice to hypnotize someone who is tense or frightened. Before you start make an agreement with the person that you will stop as soon as they ask you to. This will put them at ease. You can also show someone how to relax by using meditation and deep breathing techniques. Once they are happy to proceed, start by talking in a low voice and repeat various phrases until you gradually lull your subject into a trance like state. Keep your voice calm and gradually give them certain commands such as to focus on the feelings in their legs or their arms or to listen to their breathing. Encourage them as they fall deeper into a trance. For example tell them how relaxed they are, how they feel lightweight or worry free.

Use your knowledge of how to hypnotize someone wisely and you will reap the rewards.
