This week on the show we welcome a special guest, Julia Gomez, who will be giving the opening keynote at the upcoming ERE Expo in San Diego.

Julia is the Founder of the Brandful Workforce – an organization dedicated to helping corporations involve and leverage their engaged workforce toward more aligned and powerful branding. Prior to founding Brandful Workforce in 2011, Julia was at JetBlue, where she started the JetBlue employee relations department, and later was the Director of the People Analytics & Engagement Division.

We hear and read a lot about companies and organizations that claim that their people are their ‘Number 1 Asset’, but often there is a disconnect between this stated belief or philosophy, and the reality of the organizational experience.

But some companies not only believe that people and their talent represent the organization’s top competitive advantage, they actually act in ways that reinforce that belief and use it to create successful organizations.

JetBlue Airlines is known as one such company, and while our guest Julia was there, she played an integral role in the creation and execution of programs that helped connect people to the mission at JetBlue which has led to some fantastic outcomes.

So tonight we will talk about some of those experiences, as well as get Julia’s ideas about how the lessons learned at JetBlue might have more broad applicability in your organization.

It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

This week we are, in a moment of Linsanity, going all open mic, no specific or scheduled topics, no formal guests, just an open discussion about what is going on in your world. Yep, it is another HR Happy Hour ‘Open Mic’ night – even though I swore I’d never do another one…

What’s happening at work?

Are you hiring? Finding it hard to locate the right talent?

Are you going to any cool HR or Recruiting events in the next few months you want to talk about or promore?

Are you on board with Linsanity?

Did you watch the Dog Show? The Grammys? What do you think about the Oscars?

Like I said, anything goes on the HR Happy Hour Show tonight, so all are encouraged to call in, to tweet, and to participate in the show.

I think I have even roped special guests and long time friends of the show Lance Haun and Trish McFarlane to sit in as well.

It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

Simulation learning really isn’t new. Remember when you were a child and your favorite response was “I can do it myself!” You then proceeded to copy the actions of the person you found so interesting and so, learned how to accomplish a skill on your own, by doing.

That thought process holds true today. Adults learn best by doing. We learn when we use skills, correctly or incorrectly. We learn when we make mistakes in attempting to solve a problem. We learn when we are faced with a challenge and must involve others in finding the best possible solution.

Simulation learning provides an opportunity to use skills, to make mistakes, to involve others in a safe environment for achieving new abilities. We use real world situations, situations managers might encounter regularly in the work world. We add to those situations new situations that push an individual, that challenge a person, that encourage new ways of thinking.

This week on the show we welcome Kaye Mahon, Partner at Leadership Action Centre, and an expert on simulation and experiential learning to talk about the benefits and opportunities of simulation learning, and how simulation learning can improve outcomes and company culture.

It should be an interesting show, and I hope you can join us!

From recruitment and hiring to on-boarding, performance management and employee feedback, HR technology and the way organizations approach talent management are in for some big changes.

Cloud computing, social networking and data integration are just a few of the mega trends reshaping the way we interact with information as well as each other.

While there are risks for organizations that embrace these new technologies, the bigger risk just may be getting caught looking while your competitors pass you by.

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show we will be joined byPatrick Riley, CEO and co-founder of Modern Survey, a human capital measurement company to talk about how smart organizations and talent professionals are approaching the changing landscape.

We’ll talk about how work is going, where HR is heading, what technolgies are pushing these changes, and what the world of work might look like in 5 and 10 years.

About Patrick Riley : In addition to co-founding Modern Survey and serving as the company’s CEO, Patrick has spent nearly two decades in the field of employee measurement. His expertise has been tapped by media organizations such as Talent Management Magazine, the Star Tribune and National Public Radio.

It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

Listen to internet radio with Steve Boese on Blog Talk Radio

Well 2012 is just getting started and we did not really do a ‘Preview’ type show on the HR Happy Hour - a wider or bigger picture view of the big ideas, trends, challenges, etc. that we see organizations and HR leaders having to deal with and address in 2012. For many organizations 2012 will be a pivotal year. As the US and other economies slowly inch out of the long economic downturn and move back into growth and hopefully hiring mode, leaders and HR professionals might find themselves in a kind of transition period, between the slashing, cutting, and paring down period of recent years to a new phase of opportunity and growth.

Change, growth, and adoption of new technologies is never an easy process, and often a little slower than we might desire. The history of enterprise tech and HR Tech in particular tell an interesting story and provide some important lessons to HR leaders today. Having insight into the past helps us plan for the future.

This week on the show I am pleased to welcome HR industry legend and HCM Fellow at Oracle Row Henson for a conversation about some of these big issues and challenges for HR leaders, as well as what HR leaders should be thinking about in 2012 and beyond.

Row will lend her insight, perspective, and real world examples from the many leaders and organizations that she works with and supports, to talk about 2012, the big themes that we see impacting the Human Capital space, and what we think leading and innovative organizations will be doing to get a leg up on their competition.

It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

What is proactive culture management?

Does culture really ‘beat’ strategy as we often hear?

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show we dive into the New Year, at least in the USA, thinking quite a bit about politics. The campaign for President is in full swing, debates, press conferences, and TV ads are everywhere, and certainly 2012 is shaping up to be a very interesting year.

Do you care about the political campaigns? Do they impact your work in HR and effect your organizations? Do you stay away from talking about ‘real’ politics at work and keep the focus on office politics? Can we learn anything from savvy politicians to help us navigate our own careers?

We will have open lines this week on the show to talk politics, office politics, and whatever else 2012 has in store for you, for HR, and in your careers.

Joining me on the show will be special guest Trish McFarlane, from HR Ringleader andHRevolution who will also be updating us on what is happening with her projects and ventures, as well as offering some insight on HR leadership challenges for 2012.

It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

Our long national nightmare is finally over.

No, I am not talking about the Republican campaign for the Presidential nomination, but the NBA lockout that for a time flirted with what would have been a disastrous cancellation of the 2011-2012 NBA season. But at the last minute a deal was made, and in the words of the legendary Walt Frazier, their will be swishin’ and dishin’ and posting and toasting in the NBA this year.

Now that the labor issues are settled, and (most of) the wheeling and dealing is done, the National Basketball Association is set to embark upon its season with a full slate of marquee games on Christmas day.

And since the Association represents probably the most interesting, compelling, and downright fun set of characters, storylines, and athletes in professional sports today, the HR Happy Hour show in partnership with The 8 Man Rotation, (Kris Dunn, Tim Sackett, Matt Stollak, Lance Haun, Steve Boese), will devote the final show of 2011 to a full-on, no lame attempts to tie sports back to work or HR, preview of the upcoming season.

What will the late start, short training camps, and compressed schedule mean for the league? What teams made the sharpest moves in the off season? What clubs are ready to win now? What teams might just surprise this year? What players are on the decline and who is on the rise?

The teams, the players, and the predictions for the NBA in 2012 – you will hear it all and more on the HR Happy Hour Show this week.

The NBA – this week on the HR Happy Hour. It will be a fun departure for the show this week and I hope you will join us!

This week on the HR Happy Hour we will welcome our friends from TLNT.com, Editor John Hollon and contributing writer Ron Thomas to the show to talk about the fast approaching TLNT ‘Transform’ conference coming up in Feb. 2012. According to the TLNT team, “‘Transform’ will be an experience unlike any other HR event you have ever attended. Why? We’ve designed Transform to prepare you for the challenges and changes you’ll be facing tomorrow and beyond, not just on the here and now.”

The ‘Transform’ event is brand new, and chances are you might not be aware of how this first TLNT event aims to create an exciting and engaging opportunity for HR leaders and professionals. So we will talk about the event, the ideas behind what makes an Human Resources event valuable, and what people can expect from TLNT Transform.

Also, we will look back on the year of 2011, from a HR and workplace perspective. What themes, stories, and events really shaped the year, and how might things look in 2012.

The TLNT crew is always on top of things, so it should be a fun and interesting show and I hope you can join us!

It used to be that technologies were invented and popularized first in giant organizations or in large government and university research labs, before these new inventions and ideas could begin to influence and impact the private citizen. Access to information and computing power tended to be scarce, expensive, and highly protected.

Fast forward to today, where the internet, mobile access, social networks and other factors have combined to shift the flow of technological change and progress. Now, individuals have access to tools, platforms, networks, ideas, and each other in unprecendented ways, and in a manner that is changing the way we work, and the way the HR organization of the future will have to adapt and support their companies.

Joining us to tackle these questions will be Yvette Cameron from Constellation Research who will provide insights from Constellation’s latest research and their ongoing investigation of the Future of Work and its impact on people, processes and technologies. Yvette has a true passion for disruptive technologies in people processes, and doesn’t hold back when it comes to the responsibility of HR in driving transformation change across the organization. Join us for an engaging look into the future of work, and the resulting future of HR as it faces unprecedented levels of change.

It will be a fun evening and I hope you can join us!
