ESPN to set up UH campus by Cullen Performance Hall.

The University of Houston is pleased to announce that ESPN's College GameDay is coming to the UH campus for the first time in school history Saturday (Nov. 19), in conjunction with the 2:30 p.m., regular-season home finale vs. SMU. Many details will follow throughout the week, but Cougar fans of all ages are encouraged to display their support for the show during its stay in town.

"This is an incredible opportunity for the nation to see what is taking place at the University of Houston," Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades said. "We thank ESPN and Home Depot for this outstanding event and we salute the work of our student-athletes, our coaches, our staff and our fans for making this event a reality."

Houston Football Launches 360° Virtual Video

The University of Houston continues to expand its online fan offerings with the launch of one of the first 360° virtual video experiences in the country. The website (www.cougarfootballfan360.com) offers a virtual window to a behind the scenes look at the University of Houston football program.

The website, accessible from www.uhcougars.com, provides fans with a 360° virtual video tour that includes stops by Head Coach Kevin Sumlin’s office, practice, indoor facility and other areas. The website puts UH fans in the middle of the action and allows each visitor to interact and control their experience.

This new 360° interactive experience is being provided to the UH athletics department by ACS Athletics, the leading provider of web and mobile technology solutions for increasing operational performance and reducing risk for collegiate athletics departments.

"ACS Athletics has been a great partner to the University of Houston football program,” said Kevin Sumlin, Houston head football coach. “In addition to providing our staff first class support for their industry leading recruiting and operational software, ACS's marketing services have helped us build interest and communicate more effectively with fans, recruits and alumni. ACS gives us a real competitive advantage."

September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

Every 48 minutes someone in the U.S. is paralyzed from a spinal cord injury. Millions worldwide are living with paralysis as a result and living with the knowledge that there is currently no cure for their injury.

In an effort to raise awareness about the critical need for better treatments and preventive measures, September has been designated National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month by the U.S. Senate, the result of a resolution co-sponsored by Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bill Nelson (D-FL). To bolster the resolution’s message, we are launching an awareness campaign lasting the entire month of September.

Each year, The Buoniconti Fund team produces a video that shows the progress The Miami Project has made in the past year. This video is intended to inform and inspire our friends and donors on the amazing and incredibly encouraging things going on each and every day at The Miami Project.

As noted on my Facebook account on more than one occasion, I heart Marsha Ambrosius. Marsha is a talented singer and songwriter; and, she loves basketball which is a great combination in my opinion.

Marsha's debut album (or is it a cd?), "Late Nights & Early Mornings" was released March 1. (It's excellent.)

On Tuesday, November 23rd the Lady Eagles traveled to League City to face the unbeaten Clear Springs varsity squad. The score was tight at halftime 31 - 28 Atascocita. The Lady Eagles got into foul trouble early with 8 fouls in the 1st quarter having to sit down two point guards in the 2nd quarter, Clear Springs took advantage of the opportunity and out scored Atascocita 9 - 15 in the second quarter. After the half the Lady Eagles came out on fire, ready to lay this game to rest scoring 45 pts in the second half. Rachel Mitchell lead all scorers in this game playing a phenomenal game scoring 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Knox came in on fire scoring the first 8 pts of the game and then having to sit the entire 2nd quarter, she ended the night with 14 pts, 5 steals and 6 rebounds, while Lauren Price scored 11 pts and 7 rebounds and Sr. Chrishauna Parker added 10 pts and 6 boards to the final score of 76 - 58 over the opponent.

Atascocita goes into this week #2 in Texas per Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (9-0), with a challenging schedule, they face Westside (the team that knocked them out of the playoffs 2010) Saturday, November 27th at home, following that they head to the Merrill Center to play #3 Katy Taylor Tuesday, November 30th, and then to the Katy ISD Tournament December 2nd-4th.

Lady Eagles are now 8 - 0 for the season after blowing by Barbers Hill this Saturday 77 - 47 at home. The Lady Eagles were lead in scoring by point guard Jr. Curtyce Knox with 27 points, Jr. Lauren Price with 18 points and Sr. Rachel Mitchell with 13 points. The Atascocita squad lead BH at the half 26-51 with pretty even scoring in the last half.

Next up Clear Springs Tuesday, November 23rd at Springs and Saturday, November 27th they take on Westside (the team that took them out of the playoffs) at home at 5:00p.

Atascocita Begins Season 6 - 0

Atascocita Lady Eagles 1 week into the season are 6-0 after winning the Baytown Tournament this weekend. Eagles season opener against Clearbrook gave the Lady Eagles their first win 67-37. From there they traveled down I-10 to Baytown to take their first tournament win. The Lady Eagles went 5-0 in the tournament against Galena Park, St Agnes, Angelton, Rayburn, and the championship game against CyWoods.

Stay tuned for game 7 with Deer Park Tuesday, November 16, 2010 7:00p at Deer Park High School.

Congrats to Mitchell and Parker

Today was an exciting day for a couple of Atascocita High School seniors, 6'7" post Rachell Mitchell and 5'10" guard Chrishaunna Parker signed their National Letter of Intent. Mitchell a Texas A & M commit and Parker UTEP both decided to sign during the early signing period in the presence of family, friends, school and team mates the 2 signed on the dotted line.

Still celebrating a 65 - 38 win over Clearbrook in the season opener Tuesday night where Mitchell scored 16 pts and Parker 12 the team took time before practice to congratulate their teammates on the opportunity to play at the next level.

Next up the the Lady Eagles is the Baytown Tournament this Thursday-Saturday.

Congratulations Rachel and Chrishaunna continue to work hard.

LeBron James, race and the NBA

In the past, I've written commentaries, for example, "Race does Matter", stating my opinion regarding race in basketball / sports and the United States. My basic belief still stands: as long as people look different, race will be in issue. Period. Now, whether society ever gets beyond feeling uncomfortable to discuss the "race card" is another matter.

ESPN.com columnist, J.A. Adande, has written a commentary involving LeBron James, race, and the NBA. Earlier this week, LeBron received new criticism because he stated he believed race played a small part in the negative feedback he received in his decision to not re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers and sign with the Miami Heat instead.
