For our 2026 meeting we are pleased to host events for all of our usual classic and historic classes, everything from the big wings ‘n slicks cars of Group Q & R to classic ‘60s race cars, touring cars, sports cars and more, as well as speed events for vehicles manufactured up to the 2010s and invited cars compatible with those groups.

This weekend we are proud to host a round of the 2026 Formula Vee National Challenge, with a full grid set to compete. We’ll also highlight the wonderful vintage cars of the Stan Jones trophy, which evoke a more elegant era with the race cars of yesteryear featuring some unique Australian specials.

Looking to the tin tops, Historic Sports Sedans Australia are set to unleash their extraordinary machinery, with big power, wide guards, vast wings and front air dams being the norm. You can read more about their grid here.

Under 3-litre Group C & A touring cars will bring legendary Australian touring cars – the real machines which ran during the ‘70s, ‘80s and early ‘90s in the hands of names like Brock, Richards and Johnson.

In the paddock, the MG Car Club Canberra and Canberra Ford GT Car Club will put on displays over the weekend.

Parking is available at the circuit, along with refreshments. Saturday’s looking hot, so remember to bring your hat and sunscreen, and some ear plugs.

Entry is free for all, kids and families are very welcome and the atmosphere at our meetings is always relaxed and friendly. We look forward to seeing you at One Raceway September 26 & 27.

Sports Sedans grew rapidly through the 1970s as competitors looked beyond the restrictions of production touring car racing of the time. The result was some extraordinary machinery, with big power, wide guards, vast wings and front air dams being the norm. 

The historic category was born in around 2007, started by Fred Sayers, a QLD Mini Sports Sedan competitor, before Mark Stockwell and Simon Pfitzner took it on and nurtured it into the series we know today. 

The cars are restored back to their race spec up to the end of 1985. The John McCormack Trophy is now contested across four rounds in four states, and we are proud to host this year’s NSW round at One Raceway. Let’s get to know a few of the cars

Chris Clearihan will bring out the K&A Engineering Alfa Romeo Alfetta Chevrolet. Tony Edmondson won the 1980 and 1981 Australian Sports Sedan Championships with the car before Clearihan bought it in 1988. He went on to set lap records at circuits including Oran Park, Amaroo Park and Calder. 

Simon Pfitzner will run the Thomson Fowler Chevrolet powered Mercedes. Built beginning 1978 and restored to 1988 specification, the car uses a twin turbo de-stoked 4.2 litre Chevrolet V8 and Hewland transaxle rear end. It was driven in period by John Bowe, Brad Jones and Bryan Thompson, amongst others, with Thomson taking it to GT Championship success in 1985 and 1986. 

Keith Carling’s Mazda RX7 was built by Barry Campbell in 1983 and 1984. Originally a GT car converted to a Sports Sedan with the demise of that series, it raced successfully through the second half of the decade, culminating in victory in the 1988 NSW Sports Sedan Championship. Carling bought the car back in 2019 and it has since received a full restoration. 

Max Carter will drive Charlie Milner’s remarkable HB Torana. Built in 1979 and 1980 around a spaceframe chassis, it began with a Holden six before trying a turbo Mazda rotary and, finally, squeezing a mid-mounted small block Chevy V8 into the chassis. 

This would eventually be built up into a 400 ci block, 350 crank, Brodix heads, quad 48 IDA down draught Weber carburettors and magneto ignition, mated to a Muncie four-speed gearbox with Hollinger gears and Datsun differential. In its original Holden-powered form it recorded ten first place finishes from its first eleven meetings. 

Tony Hubbard has a particularly strong connection to his LH Torana. He built the car in 1977 and raced it successfully until 1982, becoming Victorian state champion and three times Champion of Winton. Hubbard bought the car back as a wreck in 1988 and it has recently undergone a complete rebuild. 

Tony Ross is another driver with a long connection with his car, and will be back in his Chevrolet powered FX Holden at the Spring Festival. Ross bought the FX sans engine in about 1980, fitting the 350 Chev from his road car, bolting on IDA Webers and going motor racing. He won the Austin 7 Club’s highest points scorer for Sports Sedans over 3,500 cc racing on P plates that year. 

With the help of Bernie Pfitzner, who custom built many parts for the car, the FX was developed into a mid-engined Sports Sedan. The car would go on to win at Adelaide International Raceway and took the 1989 Champion of AIR title. After three decades away, Ross is once again driving the restored car.

Ian Baird’s Austin A30 was built by Barry Bray and first log booked in 1975, it runs a mechanically injected 2.0 litre Datsun engine and close ratio five speed gearbox. It ran supercharged for a few years, hence the bulge in the bonnet, but was returned to natural aspiration when that was found to be too unreliable. Sold in the early 1980s, the car was thought lost, only to be rediscovered as a barn find and restored about 8 years ago with Bray’s help. 

The Holden FX of Mark Abela is another car that disappeared from the scene for a few decades and which has been brought back to life with Historic Sports Sedans Australia. The car competed in the NSW scene during the 1970s, but went into an early retirement in 1977. It has been recently returned to the track, running a Holden 202 with triple Webers, and retains details including its original Bond half roll cage and Mawer race wheels. 

David Bailey’s Ford Capri GT was converted from a road car into a Sports Sedan, as many of the entry level cars were, by Derek Van Zelm in 1980. He raced it in the Victorian state series as well as the South Australia VS Victoria Challenge in 1983. Today it remains in largely the same configuration in which it was built. 

These cars and more will join a magic field at the 2026 HSRCA Spring Festival, featuring the Formula Vee National Challenge, under three-litre Group C & A touring cars and the Stan Jones for JKL, as well as races and speed events for all historic and invited cars.

We Have a Dry-Hire Arrangement With One Raceway

This means that the HSRCA must organize everything that happens over the weekend, which will stretch our small team so please be understanding. 

Please contact our usual HSRCA organisers re the event. Please do not contact One Raceway, we are running the event!

Trailer and Support Vehicle Parking

Larger transporters and trailers supporting cars in pit lane garages (only) can be parked behind the pit lane garages (there is direct concrete access to these garages).

Covered trailers can be parked at the back of the concrete pad / skid pan, nearest Braidwood Road.

All other trailers need to be parked at the top of the hill, near the cabins. Access is via the internal road running behind the circuit. 

Competitor Sign On – Friday

Competitors are encouraged to complete their documentation check and obtain their program on Friday. This will be at the “Navy Box” office, on the main internal access road, opposite the carports.

Fuel

There is no fuel available at the circuit. Please arrange your special fuels in Sydney, or otherwise before the event!

Private Practice on Friday September 25

If you have not already entered, you can enter on the day.  Entry fee is $275. 

Bump-In on Thursday Evening September 24

Bump in will be available from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday evening. Typically, the gate will be locked from 6:30 pm. Please note these times as they are fixed, and the gates will then be closed.

Of course, unloading on Friday may be more convenient and you are welcome to do so with the consideration that practice will be running that day.

Erecting Tents in the Paddock Areas

Entrants are allowed to erect tents on the concrete pad behind the pit lane garages, as at SMSP, with no pegs of course. The grassed areas are not available for this event.    

Noise Restrictions and Enforcement

The history of noise issues at this site has been well documented. The circuit is still subject to the previous restrictions, and the current rules to ensure compliance and the continuity of use are published on the One Raceway website as follows:

• Vehicles in track activity must not exceed 95db measured at 30 metres
• Monitoring is constant and breaches of the limit are reported immediately to race control, who will black flag any car which infringes, this is the only warning
• The HSRCA will not refund entry fees for competitors who are affected by a noise exclusion

MyLaps Transponders (For Timing)

Timing will be by the Mylaps electronic system only and will be the official record of lap times and number of laps completed. Transponders will be available at the circuit at a cost of $35 through Eldee Timing: Contact Lisa Drayton – 0402 830 313 or lisa@eldeetiming.com.au for any queries.

Transponders are typically distributed at the office under the control tower.

We cannot use our Dorians at One Raceway.

Food and Drink Facilities

The previous cafeteria is not open and HSRCA will therefore engage a food truck, and coffee van onsite over the three days. We have selected vendors who know the site and provide a variety of foods, but of course you are always free to self-cater.

BBQ on Saturday night

We will provide a function with food and drinks on Saturday evening shortly after the last event to enable competitors and their friends to meet and thank the officials.  This will be in the area of the Briefing Room.

Go to the Motorsport Australia website at https://motorsport.org.au/ and click on ‘Member Portal’.

Click on Events > Register for an event. You will notice that the entry fee is set at zero. The costs have been set on the Activities on the next screen.

Type HSRCA in the search box and click on the Magnifying Glass icon

Click on REGISTER AS COMPETITOR

Click on each Declaration box

Vehicle – Click on the Magnifying Glass icon to find your Vehicle > tick and select

Driver – Click on the Magnifying Glass icon to find your Driver > tick and select

Club – Click on the Magnifying Glass icon to find your MA Affiliated Club > tick and select

Garage – select if required – Click on NEXT

Activities – Click on Add Activities and select the Activities you wish to participate in, and click Add and you will be charged accordingly.

Cross Entry – You will need to do a second entry and select the appropriate Activity.

Click on NEXT

Payment Details

Click on the payment box and select Payment Type. You have the choice of Credit Card or Direct Debit (preferred, and it saves you 3%). 

If you wish to enter without paying, please select Direct Debit, otherwise the system will not register your entry and we will not be able to see it.  (go figure!)  Having selected Direct Debit, you will need to pay prior to the closing date or until we run out of available garages, in which case we will give you a call. 

Please ensure that your email and phone numbers are correct on the system so we can contact you.  If not, please email us your new contact details.

NOTE:

There is some information missing, particularly Race Number, and for non log-booked cars (Regularity and Supersprint) there is very little information provided by the new system.

Therefore, please expect an email from either Robyn (treasurer@hsrca.com) once you have submitted your entry and we will ask you for required information that the system has not provided.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been more than six months since our 2025 Summer Festival, but we were very happy to take to the track once more over the Kings Birthday long weekend, June 6 – 7, for the 2026 HSRCA Sydney Classic. Let’s catch up on all the action on and off track at Sydney Motorsport Park.

We were greeted by an absolutely perfect winter weekend, a very welcome change after the varied and exciting array of challenging weather conditions we’ve run under in recent years. Mornings were cool, but not cold, the skies were blue and the air still, and the sun had enough punch to warm the circuit a little, but not outright melt it. This was not only kind to our persons, but the cars as well and we were happy to hear of many drivers setting personal bests or new lap records over the weekend.

Speaking of challenging weather conditions, we’d like to send a big ‘THANK YOU!’ to the volunteers who have stuck with us through all of them. We would not be able to put these meetings on without your selfless support across the circuit and behind the scenes, and we appreciate all that you do.

Our thanks as well to all of the HSRCA members, competitors, families, friends, support crews and spectators who came out to enjoy the racing and catch up in the pits and paddock. The atmosphere was happy and welcoming as always, and it was a pleasure to see everyone sharing stories, tinkering with the cars and relaxing.

An incredible amount of work goes in to not just competing in, maintaining and tuning the cars over the weekend, but preparing them and getting to the circuit in the first place. The cars across the field were beautifully presented as always, and much appreciated by those who took a wander through the pits and paddock.

Speaking of competing, Blend Line TV once again came out to live stream and record the Sydney Classic in its entirety. The archive of which is available on their Club website, which you can find at this link. It costs $10.99 per month (less than the cost of 5 litres of fuel) for access, and that includes the recent Historic Winton meeting as well as many others.

Supersprint were first out, Jamie Tilley setting the pace early with a 1:42 and having a commanding run across the weekend in the Ford XY GTHO. In the first run he would be joined by Madox Foster and Gavin King, Paul Finch going fastest in run two, with Stuart Sedgmen sneaking onto the podium as well.

Sticking with the timed classes, Regularity saw some beautifully prepared and interesting cars out for a run. John Culvenor ran to an early in his stunning Elan in the first run, David Ellis and Peter Ireland completing the top three. There was a complete switch-up of the order in run two, Craig Shiel topping the sheets in the Chevron B60, John Rose following and Peter Ireland consistent in third. John Culvenor was back on top for run three, Craig Shiel and John Rose both showing good consistency, before the final run of the weekend late on Sunday saw only a few drivers head out.

Moving on to the race categories, Formula Ford were out early on Saturday morning for qualifying, with Andrew McInnes setting the pace in a very closely competed group of four Van Dieman RF89, an earlier 86 also in the pack in the hands of Tom Tweedie. Harrison Cooper would get a run on the field in race one and stretch out a two second lead, McInness following in second in a group of five cars separated by about half a second.

While the pointy end remained closely contested, the order settled into somewhat of a rhythm for race two, Cooper leading McInness now followed by Tweedie, Garry Watson and Will Faulkner. William Lowing had set a blistering lap in race two and made his way into the lead by the conclusion of race three, holding on to it for the finale of the weekend.

M, O and Formula Vee ran together over the weekend, which made for a big field and some entertaining racing. In qualifying it was Paul Faulkner who set P1 for the M & O cars, Stephen Normoyle the quickest of the Vees. This pattern continued into the first race, which Faulkner won ahead of Travis Clark and David Kent. Tony Paynter led the Vees home, followed by Normoyle and Damien Spinks.

With the pointy end well established on Sunday morning, Noel Bryen would jump onto the podium in his Rennmax, staying there through race three when Normoyle, Spinks and Daniel Bando set the podium in the Vees. The final race of the weekend saw our HSRCA President Wayne Wilson earn a spot on the podium, Dan Bando improving in the Vees for second.

This weekend was also the first official outing for Mackenzie Pollard after being awarded the HSRCA Young Women in Motor Sport drive. She had a great weekend, improving by about two seconds across the five events, and driving consistently in a challenging mixed field.

We were thrilled to get some Formula 5000s out to play at the Sydney Classic, with Tim Berryman enjoying a dominant weekend and a clean sweep of the event in the Lola T332. Evan Farrall did similar in his March 732A, Matthew Veal, Rod Carroll and Bill Hemming also scoring podiums over the weekend.

Andrew Miedecke was the one to beat in Q & R sports and racing, winning all of the races bar race two. Vivian King had a similarly good weekend, scoring second in race one, winning race two and claiming third in race three, with Malcolm Oastler also amongst it throughout the event. In the final run of the weekend James Jarvie put the Lola T582 into second followed by Malcolm Boyd in an Elfin 792.

Moving to the tin tops, and Brad Tilley, Joe Calleja and Robert James were quick to set a rhythm in Group N, setting the top three in qualifying and holding that formation through race one and two. Race three on Sunday morning was a handicap event, which Brad Tilley still managed to charge through in the Mustang, Anthony Colton claiming second in his Cortina and Ray Hepburn third in another Mustang.

The final race of the weekend saw Tilley complete a clean sweep, Robert James in second and Paul Battersby in the Mini third.

Group S brought another great field out to the event, with Wayne Seabrook charging at the outset ahead of stuff competition from the Shelby of Terry Lawlor, Chris Clearihan also quick in the Bolwell Nagari. Seabrook would claim victory in race one, Doug Barbour moving up into second to resume their oft contested rivalry, Lawlor holding firm on the podium. Graham Gulson from Canberra managed to dethrone Seabrook in race two, Andrew Purvis finding his way past Barbour for third.

Starting fresh on Sunday morning, Gulson remained at the front, Terry Lawlor back on form for second ahead of Barbour, the order holding for the final race of the weekend.

Last but very much not least, we were pleased to be once again joined by MG Racing Australia for the Sydney Classic. Philip Chester dominated the weekend in the monster 1972 MGB GT V8, Brandon Taylor similarly quick in his completely different but still plenty fast MG Midget.

Keith Ondarchie set third in race one, with Michael Trathen in another Midget third in race two, during which Taylor would actually get ahead of Chester for the win. The final race of the weekend saw the order returned after a good weekend of racing from all.

We are pleased to say there won’t be nearly so long a gap before our next meeting, with the Spring Festival set for September 25 – 27 at One Raceway and the Summer Festival following at Sydney Motorsport Park November 27 – 29.
