Tomorrow night Vera will be showing at FAD GALA SHOW!! If you haven’t got tickets stay tuned for some pictures from the show!!

The FAD 10 Charity Gala Show, set to take place at Vauxhall Fashion Scout on Tuesday 21st February 2012, will celebrate 10 years of supporting young talent for fashion charity FAD.

Set up as a creative charity, FAD works to provide 13-25 year olds with a realistic insight into the fashion industry by hosting high-profile industry days, creative workshops, and catwalk events. Working in conjunction with the industry’s most-respected names, FAD is all about ‘Creating Futures through Fashion’ by bridging the gap between education and industry.

After providing “an undeniable springboard” [Vogue] for over 8000 young people, the charity has encouraged and inspired intelligent design and individual expression that has led to their students being featured in national publications, such as The Independent Magazine’, The Telegraph, The Guardian and online at Vogue.com.

On the night a catwalk retrospective will showcase garments from a decade of the FAD Competition, alongside innovative new collections by past winners and finalists. Highlights include Rebecca Thomson from the Royal College of Art; Katie Pope, one half of London designers Harnett Pope; Beatrice Newman, LCF MA graduate and Rasa Abramaviciute, who is now part of the design team at Vivienne Westwood.

Exhibiting alongside the catwalk show will be illustrations inspired by 10 years of the FAD Competition brief, featuring work by 14 fashion students from universities and colleges across the UK.

Thanks to FAD sponsors and supporters there will be the chance to bid on some fantastic lots in the fashion auction and each guest will receive a hand printed goody bag designed by teenagers taking part in Fashion Futures.

All proceeds from the FAD 10 charity gala show will go towards funding hands-on training and opportunities for teenagers from the most excluded backgrounds.

“FAD is the only charity I know that supports young people through the field of fashion. I think it’s great because fashion is something everyone wears, you can relate to at an early age and it’s something which really excites people. At the same time it can be seen as really elitist, so to enable young people from all walks of life to be part of it is amazing.” Jane Sheperdson, CEO Whistles

He is also a brilliant photographer and his work is featured in the 2011 International Masters of Photography book.

Here we take a look into his world, his inspirations and exciting projects he is working on. These include exciting documentaries for Topman Generation interviewing Rankin and Vivienne Westwood’s ‘100 days of Active Resistance’ project.

-Tell me a little about your work process?

My work process is always very natural. I don’t take too long to come up with ideas or what pictures and music to use in videos; I like to go with my initial ideas and gut instinct. For Vera’s film I knew I had to use something epic. Iceland is a country I know well and has already featured in much of my work, because of this I had to find something that showed the epic quality of the country’s grand landscapes I had already experienced.

I

have been working on my own time-lapse films. I take multiple images of a landscape over a long time and compress it down to a matter of seconds. I searched Youtube for Icelandic time-lapse footage and found master cinematographer, Sean Steigermeiers Icelandic time-lapse film; I wrote to him and asked for his permission to use the film, to which he agreed. I thought he would laugh in my face so I was very humbled that he gave me this incredible piece! I always try to look at things as a whole so if I get the sense that something is going to work I just go with it. I always have a very strong vision in my head of what I want to make, my process is about matching the reality to the dream as best I can. Weirdly I find the more I can understand myself the easier it is for me to match reality to the vision.

-How did you get inspired making the video?

Once I had the film from Sean the rest of the video fell into place. I already had some footage of Vera’s work when I was over in Iceland in March making a documentary for Dazed & Confused magazine with John-Paul Pryor. Vera opened the 2011 Reykjavík Fashion Festival and I used this footage in the film,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80zZGmjeOtw.I used the Jungle Fiction track from my friend Charlie Gadsdon of the QE company.

I loved it’s rhythm that it was made by Icelandic musicians made it even sweeter.

I am also a musician so I put my drumming hat on and tried my best to cut film to the beat of the song. An older version of the video was supposed to be projected behind the catwalk but due to technical restrictions on the day we had to can it, until now that is!

Vera’s work inspired me greatly,

to me its walking art. Vera has a very pure sense in what she creates and she is very good at keeping the business separate from the creation. She will not compromise her creativity because of financial constraints, which is something that is becoming very rare. This is reflected by the amazing unique work that she creates. It’s an honor to work with her.

So for the film I knew had to make something very ‘snappy’ and grand, it had to include a lot of textures and reflect the dark palette of Icelandic winter nature.

-How do you feel your work connects to the clothes?

I think our work connects on many levels. I am very versatile with a camera and one of my very favourite things has been to shoot Icelandic landscapes. I see Vera’s designs as landscapes in themselves, in the shapes that she creates as well as thetextures of the fabrics. The silicon material that Vera created can easily be likened to water droplets, ice crystals or even Icelandic moss.

I am not particularly ‘up’ on his high fashion but I’ve found it very easy to slot into Vera’s paradigm; we both work from a much deeper perspective that is not always found in either fashion or photography.

-What is next for you?

Exciting times at the moment ! I’ve recently had one of my landscape shots of Iceland included in Vivienne Westwood’s ‘100 days of Active Resistance’ book and exhibition. I’ve just released a series of films on the new Topman Generation site directed and produced by myself and John-Paul Pryor including an interview with world renowned photographer Rankin.

We will also be releasing a series of ‘art shorts’ in Paris for a video website, Konbini. Vera and I have an inspirational photo shoot coming up but I don’t want to say too much right now! It will feature Vera’s clothes, floating on a lake, walking on water, a comment on our vast universe and will be illustrated by my good friend and muse Harpa (AKA Ziska). I’ll be using technique I have been working on over the last few months where I can take pictures of night landscapes but shoot ‘through’ the atmosphere of earth and capture space in stunning detail. So yes, I’ll be visiting Iceland soon. I am very excited about as it is my FAVOURITE place on earth!
