D. Heyes

After narrowly escaping a federal claim of false advertising with a "pomegranate" drink that contained a barely legal amount of pomegranate juice, now Coca-Cola faces a new issue: cancer-causing ingredients in its namesake beverage.

According to a recent report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a U.S. watchdog organization, the version of Coke sold in several countries, including Kenya and Brazil, still contains an elevated level of a chemical that has been linked to cancer in animals - months after the beverage giant made changes to Coca-Cola sold in the state of California.

The group said samples of the soft drink were tested in nine countries, and each showed "alarming amounts" of the chemical 4-methylimidazole, or 4-MI, which is used in the soda's caramel coloring. The group said high levels of 4-MI have been linked to cancer in some animals.

In March Coca-Cola, along with beverage rival PepsiCo, said the companies had requested that suppliers of their caramel coloring change their manufacturing process to fall in line with a ballot initiative in California that sought to limit the public's exposure to toxic chemicals, Reuters reported. Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Agent Orange Linked to Kidney Cancer: Study

(HealthDay News) -- There appears to be a link between Agent Orange and kidney cancer in U.S. veterans exposed to the herbicide in Vietnam, a new study suggests.

Researchers at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Shreveport, La. examined the records of 297 patients diagnosed with kidney cancer between 1987 and 2009. Thirteen of the patients, aged 39 to 63 when they were diagnosed, said they had been exposed to Agent Orange.

Documented exposure to the herbicide and pathology reports were available for 10 of the patients. The researchers reviewed these patients' age at diagnosis, tumor size, side of lesion, pathology and survival.

Nine of the 10 patients had clear-cell cancers, which typically have worse outcomes than papillary tumors, which appeared in one patient. One patient had both clear-cell and papillary cancers. Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Revealed: which fruit and vegetable juices alleviate arthritis pain without drugs or surgery

by: Ben Kage

As the song says, "You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone" -- and motor skills are no exception. Despite the ranking of the opposable thumb as one of the single most important evolutionary advantages of the human race, many people take the use of their hands for granted until something draws their attention to it, such as arthritis. Joseph B. Marion, author of "The Anti-Aging Manual", says that an estimated 41 million Americans suffer from arthritis.

Arthritis is actually a term covering over 100 rheumatic diseases; but basically, the affliction can be defined as an inflammation of the joints. According to http://www.rlrouse.com, the two most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/findinformation/aa/osteoarthritis.php), which generally is caused by every day wear and tear on the foot or poor choices of shoe design, and rheumatoid arthritis (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/findinformation/aa/rheumatoidarthritis.php), which occurs when the body's autoimmune system begins attacking its own cells, causing joint deterioration and deformation. Some researchers believe a bacterium or virus causes this body malfunction, and others believe that certain people are more genetically susceptible to the condition. This is not to say that some people are genetically predestined to get arthritis, only that some genetic traits put them at more risk. Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Race Doesn't Seem to Predict Lung Cancer Survival in Blacks

(HealthDay News) -- Race does not appear to play a role in how long a black patient or a white patient with lung cancer will ultimately survive the disease, researchers report.

"In simple terms, if 100 patients who are [white] and 100 patients who are [black] have the same age, stage of cancer, type of lung cancer and are treated the same way, there should not be differences in their survival just because they are of different races," Dr. Rajesh Sehgal, a medical oncologist at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center in Huntington, W.

It is the external
environment that contributes most to the load of toxins that the liver has to
detoxify. Today, the burden on the liver is heavier than ever before in
history. Additionally, nutritional deficiencies and imbalances from unhealthy
eating habits add to the production of toxins, as do alcohol and many
prescription drugs, further increasing stress on the liver and requiring a
strong detoxification capacity. Surprisingly, even unprocessed organic foods
can have naturally occurring toxic components that require an effective
detoxification system.

Toxic chemicals are found in the food we eat, in the water we drink, and in the
air we breathe, both outdoors and indoors. In a study by the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA), chemicals such as p-xylene, tetrachloroethylene, ethylbenzene,
and benzene were documented as "everywhere present" in the air
(Wallace et al. 1989). Listed as "often present" were chloroform,
carbon tetrachloride, styrene, and p-dichlorobenzene. A customary trip to a gas
station or a dry cleaner (as well as smoking) results in elevated levels of
inhaled toxins. Read more…

(HealthDay News) --
New research suggests that an internal body clock that goes on the fritz could
be a factor in the development of bipolar disorder in children.

The finding results from the examination of the genetic makeup of 152 children
with bipolar disorder, which can make people susceptible to major mood swings,
and 140 children without the disorder. They linked variations in a gene known
as RORB to the kids with bipolar disorder.

"Our findings suggest that clock genes in general, and RORB in particular,
may be important candidates for further investigation in the search for the
molecular basis of bipolar disorder," the study's co-author, Dr. Alexander
Niculescu, of the Indiana University School of Medicine, said in a news release
from the publisher of BMC Psychiatry, which has published the findings online.

The gene, which is mainly expressed in the eye, pineal gland and brain, is
thought to be tied to the body's circadian rhythm. Read more…

Blaming dietary sodium for high blood pressure is too
simplistic; the real problem may be mineral deficiencies
by: Dani Veracity

In popular thought, disputing sodium's link to high blood pressure is
equivalent to questioning whether the earth is round. However, some experts now
believe that salt will not raise blood pressure in everyone, just in people who
are "salt sensitive." Only 10 percent of the population is salt
sensitive, according to BioMarkers by Professor William Evans and Dr. Irwin H.
Rosenberg.

Of course, far more than 10 percent of us suffer from hypertension, meaning
that if these experts are correct, salt intake cannot be the only factor
contributing to America's high blood pressure epidemic. In fact, according to
Gayle Reichler's book, Active Wellness, only half the people with hypertension
have high blood pressure because of their salt intake, making cutting down on
the amount of salt you eat a good step toward lower blood pressure, but not a
cure-all. Read more…

It's amazing that more than 2000 years ago we realized many universal truths,
and we did it without the scientific method. One person who really knew what he
was talking about was Hippocrates, who said "Let food be thy medicine and
medicine be thy food".

We lost our common sense for awhile and fell in love with a disease
establishment that claimed science was on its side. Apparently we are now
coming to earth again in a new age where science and sense meet. Scientists are
now explaining the finer points of the truth Hippocrates was trying to tell us
-- nature has provided us with all the tools we need to stay healthy. An
example of this type of research is a study published in the January, 2008
edition of Frontiers in Bioscience that deals with the importance of regulation
of the cell cycle in prevention of cancer. Read more…

(HealthDay News) --
Smoking increases the risk of advanced kidney cancer, researchers report.

In a new study, a team from Duke University Medical Center reviewed the cases
of 845 patients who had had surgery for kidney cancer -- or renal cell
carcinoma -- between 2000 and 2009. They found that current and former smokers
were 1.5 to 1.6 times more likely to have advanced cancer than nonsmokers.

Heavy smoking (smoking for a longer period of time and smoking more) was
associated with advanced renal cell carcinoma. Kicking the habit reduced the
risk of advanced disease by 9 percent for every 10 years that a former smoker
was smoke-free, the investigators found.

The findings were slated for presentation Sunday at a special press conference
at the American Urological Association's annual meeting, in Washington, D.C.

Another study scheduled for presentation at the same briefing found that rates
of bladder cancer did not fall along with lower rates of smoking in the United
States.

The researchers examined a national database and found that lung cancer rates
declined along with decreasing per capita consumption of cigarettes between
1973 and 2007, but the same type of consistent decline was not seen in bladder
cancer rates. Read more…

Vitamin D http://www.dreddyclinic.com/vitamins/Vitamin-D-Cholecalciferol.htm deficiency may triple a person's risk of high blood pressure http://www.dreddyclinic.com/findinformation/hh/highbloodpressure.php, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and presented at a meeting of the American Heart Association in Chicago.

"Our results indicate that early vitamin D deficiency may increase the long-term risk of high blood pressure in women at mid-life," researcher Flojaune Griffin said.

The researchers recruited 559 white women from Tecumseh, Michigan, who were between 24 and 44 years old when the study began in 1992. The participants' vitamin D blood levels were measured at the beginning of the study and once a year after that for 15 years.

At the beginning of the study, 5.5 percent of the women who were deficient in vitamin D suffered from high blood pressure, compared with only 2.8 percent of the women who had sufficient levels of the vitamin. At the end of the study in 2007, 10 percent of the women in the deficiency group had high blood pressure, compared with only 3.7 percent in the "sufficient" group.Read more...
Chances are you've been prescribed antidepressants or know someone who has. According to the Centers for Disease Control, eleven percent of Americans over the age of 12 take antidepressants. Between 1996 and 2005 alone, the number of people taking antidepressants doubled to 27 million.

Concurrent with this pharmaceutical boom, we have also seen the rise of the ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) diagnosis. According to the National Institute of Mental health, 3 to 5 percentof kids have ADHD, but some experts believe that figure could be as high as 10 percent. Yet there are no lab tests to confirm ADHD in children or adults. Instead, doctors rely on the patient's response to questions, the family's description of behavior problems and a school assessment. Once a diagnosis has been made and the patient is put on ADHD medication, the medications usually have troubling side effects. Those may include headaches, upset stomach, dizziness, toxic psychosis and even death, among others. Read more...

Natto is a fermented cheese-like food that
has been used in Asia for over 1000 years. These native cultures used
this dish as breakfast food, and it was known as a remedy for heart and
vascular diseases. Research has found both vitamin K2 and a powerful
enzyme nattokinase within this food. Nattokinase and vitamin K2 have
extraordinary cardiovascular protective qualities.

The
unfermented soybean is a very challenging food to digest properly due to
the high amount of phytic acids. These phytates bind to major minerals
such as zinc, calcium, & magnesium and pull them out of our body.
Unfermented soy also has enzyme inhibitors and goitrogens that challenge
the body's enzymatic and thyroid hormone systems.

Soy can be
deeply fermented with various microorganisms to remove the phytates,
enzyme inhibitors and goitrogens. This fermentation process makes it
more bioavailable and loaded with live enzymes and healthy
microorganisms. Tempeh, miso, & natto are prime examples of
fermented soy. Read more...
Scientists have understood the basic mechanism
of telomeres, the small zipper-like capsules that bind our DNA genetic
material and enable precise cellular reproduction, for more than a
decade now. As each cell replicates, the telomere shortens and the
potential life-cycle of the cell diminishes slightly until there is no
more telomere and cell death ensues. Researchers publishing in the
journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology have found
that telomere shortening accurately predicts the risk of developing
heart disease, suffering a heart attack and early death from all causes.

Smoking
and obesity cause systemic inflammation and are a direct cause of
telomere shortening. In addition to improving diet and lifestyle risk
factors, carnosine supplementation is emerging as an important nutrient
that can block telomere shortening and reduce aging effects to increase
lifespan (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/findinformation/ww/obesity.php).

Researchers
from The University of Copenhagen in Denmark examined the DNA of 20,000
Danes to analyze their specific telomere length, an established
measurement of cellular aging. The participants were followed for a
period of nineteen years and the results demonstrated that when the
telomere length was short, the risk of heart attack and early death was
increased by 50 and 25 percent, respectively. Read more...
She lived between 1580 and 1550 B.C., and died in her early 40s, say researchers.

Their investigation with whole-body CT scans found that this wasn't a unique case. About 45 percent of 43 other mummies also had evidence of atherosclerosis, an accumulation of plaque in arteries.

The findings suggest that atherosclerosis has afflicted humans for a long time and isn't just a modern disease. The study was scheduled for presentation Sunday at the annual scientific session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), held in New Orleans.

"Commonly, we think of coronary artery or heart disease as a consequence of modern lifestyles, mainly because it has increased in developing countries as they become more westernized," co-principal investigator Dr. Gregory S. Thomas, a clinical professor and director of Nuclear Cardiology Education, University of California, Irvine, said in an ACC news release. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Chemical Contamination Linked to Early Puberty

Foods that were contaminated in Michigan in 1973, when a fire retardant containing the chemical polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) was accidentally mixed with animal feed, have been associated with an early onset of menstruation and pubic hair in some daughters of the women exposed to PBB.

The daughters of the most highly exposed women began menstruation, on average, before they reached their twelfth birthdays.

In 1973, a fire retardant containing PBBs, was mistakenly mixed with cattle feed in place of a feed additive. The contamination was eventually discovered when milk production went down and calves were stillborn or born with hoof deformities. By the time the source of the PBBs was identified, at least 4,000 people had been exposed through contaminated meat and dairy products.

PBB accumulates in fatty tissue in the body and is stored for years. In the current study, researchers contacted female offspring, five to 24 years of age, born after the Michigan PBB incident to mothers listed as exposed to PBB in the Michigan PBB registry.Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Health Basics: How do you live to be 110?

by: S. How could it be that a man who's going on 111 and taking no medication, who simply eats fresh vegetables, olive oil, honey, cinnamon, garlic and chocolate, can bounce around his kitchen like he's half his age?

When Bernando LaPallo of Mesa, Arizona tells his secrets of longevity and vitality, your jaw drops to the ground, wondering how he avoided all of the "ABCD's" of those "senior years" - you know, Alzheimer's, brittle bones, cancer and/or diabetes. Could it be that Western Medicine has it all wrong, and all we ever needed were raw veggies, super-foods, raw nuts and berries, and some barley soup? Maybe Medicare and Medicaid should broker a deal with the makers of power juicers and call it "Universal Healthcare."

This August, 2012, Bernando LaPallo will turn 111 years of age, and he still has no problem walking at least a mile daily and receiving phone calls from people all around the world who want to hear how he's done it, and how to make their own lives better. Ackerman, Ph.D.

As the wheels continue to come of the wagon known as the old paradigm, humans are increasingly exhibiting accelerated stress behaviors. This isn't good, as research indicates that stress is a leading factor in precipitating illness.

Stress is not ipso facto a bad thing. A certain amount of stress is natural. None of us live stress free lives. However, while a certain amount of stress is normal, chronic negative stress is harmful to our health.

When an individual is faced with stress, his body mobilizes for action in what is called a fight or flight reaction. During a fight or flight reaction, the heart rate increases, breathing is accelerated, and the muscles tense up.

When an individual identifies a threat, or experiences strong negative emotions such as anger and/or rage, activity in the sympathetic nervous system rises and the adrenal glands release the hormones epinephrine (or adrenaline) and norepinephrine into the blood stream. At the same time, corticosteriod hormones which release fatty acids for energy, are released by the adrenal glands. This nervous system and hormonal activity causes digestion to stop, blood sugar levels to increase, and the heart to pump more blood to the muscles. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Depression's Behavior Changes Linked to Heart Risks

(HealthDay News) -- Negative changes in health behaviors are a major reason why heart patients with depression have an increased risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, say U.S. researchers who followed 1,017 outpatients with stable coronary heart disease for an average of 4.8 years.

Depression has long been recognized as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in healthy people and for recurrent events in patients with cardiovascular disease. But the reason for this association hasn't been clear.

Dr. Mary A. Whooley, of the VA Medical Center in San Francisco, and her colleagues used a questionnaire to measure the heart disease patients' symptoms of depression. The researchers then used various models to evaluate the connection between subsequent cardiovascular events (such as heart failure, heart attack, stroke), depression, disease severity at the start of the study, and biological and behavioral factors.

The researchers found that patients with depression had a 50 percent greater risk of cardiovascular events -- 10 percent among those with depression compared to 6.7 among those without depression. When the researchers adjusted for other existing conditions and cardiac disease severity, depression was associated with a 31 percent increased risk of cardiovascular events. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Antioxidant carnosine destroys free radicals

By Dr. David Jockers

Carnosine is a powerful antioxidant that improves muscle, brain and cardiovascular function. This special molecule is found in healthy animal meat and is being deeply researched for its anti-aging effects. It mainly functions to protect the proteins of the body which aids in tissue healing and repair.

Carnosine is a peptide that is composed of two amino acids: beta-alanine and histidine. Researchers around the world have demonstrated carnosine's ability to scavenge dangerous free radicals. In particular, it works effectively against reactive oxygen species (ROS), the hydroxyl radical and harmful aldehydes that are formed due to the peroxidation of cell membrane fatty acids. This is especially important because these are two of the more harmful free radicals to neutralize. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Heart Patients Benefit From At-Home Care, Study Finds

(HealthDay News) -- Patients with worsening chronic heart failure may find "hospital-at-home" care is a good alternative to treatment in a traditional hospital, Italian researchers report.

An estimated 5 million North Americans suffer from chronic heart failure, a condition in which the heart struggles to pump blood to the body. In the United States, worsening chronic heart failure is the cause of more than 1 million hospital admissions a year, and patients have a 50 percent risk of readmission within six months of discharge, according to the authors of a study published in the Sept. 28 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

But the hospital is often dangerous in itself, the study authors noted.

In the study, Dr. Vittoria Tibaldi and colleagues at the University of Torino, San Giovanni Battista Hospital in Torino, Italy, enrolled patients aged 75 years or older with worsening chronic heart failure. Some were treated at a general medical ward, while others received hospital-at-home care supervised by a doctor. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Does Deodorant Ingredient Affect Breast Cancer Risk?

(HealthDay News) -- For several years, researchers have studied a possible link between substances called parabens -- widely used as a germ-fighting preservative in cosmetics such as deodorant/antiperspirants -- and breast cancer.

Investigators have learned that parabens, also found in some drugs and food products, can mimic weakly the action of the female hormone estrogen -- an established risk factor for breast cancer. He said the increased risk from overuse of multivitamins was linked to more aggressive cancer that has spread beyond the prostate gland or cancer that proved fatal. Read more...

Ayurstate for Prostate Care

Broccoli, Cabbage, Other Veggies May Protect Against Colon Cancer

(HealthDay News) -- Eating fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of some colorectal cancers, according to a new study.

Austrailian researchers examined the diets of 918 colorectal cancer patients and 1,021 people with no history of the disease and found that consumption of certain vegetables and fruits were associated with a decreased risk of cancer in the proximal and distal colon -- that is, the upper and lower portions of the colon.

Consumption of brassica vegetables (also known as cole crops) such as broccoli, kale, cauliflower, turnips and cabbage, for example, appeared to reduce the risk of cancer in the upper colon, while both total fruit and vegetable intake (and total vegetable intake alone) reduced the risk of cancer in the lower colon.

They also found that eating more apples and dark, yellow vegetables was linked with a significantly reduced risk of lower colon cancer. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Arsenic shows promise as treatment for deadly brain tumors

Arsenic and its related compounds are mostly thought of as killers -- and these natural substances can be just that. Notoriously poisonous to myriad forms of life, arsenic is often used in pesticides. And water supplies in many parts of the world that are contaminated by the natural occurrence of arsenic compounds can cause serious health problems. But despite it's reputation as a dangerous chemical, arsenic has been used in tiny amounts in medicine for over 2,000 years. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood
