ALBUM RECORDING IN COPENHAGEN

If everything goes according to plan (when does it ever?!?) our debut album should drop before the end of the year. And by ‘our‘ I mean the brand new band myself and some good friends have started. It’s only rock n’ roll but I like it! A lot. Stay tuned for band name, site and a little taste of what we’ll be capable of inflicting upon your unsuspecting virgin ears.

Los Angeles - End Scene

Los Angeles came to a wrap and what an intense month it was. The picture was taken at the Henson Studios where we worked for a week. It’s named after Jim Henson and houses the production and offices of The Muppet Show, for which he was the creator. Initially these facilities was built by Charlie Chaplin about 100 years ago when he founded his studio, and these are the very same grounds where he shot most of his films. Right outside the studio is his actual footprints, immortalized in cement in his famous Charlie Chaplin stance. Of course it’s also where numerous classic albums and songs where recorded - the charity single ‘We Are The World’ by USA For Africa, and the Use Your Illusion I & II albums by Guns N’ Roses are among them. Our particular studio is the same one in which Lady Gaga recorded her first two albums ‘The Fame‘ and ‘The Fame Monster‘. Incidentally the microphone to my right is the one that she used for recording her vocals on those two albums.

Just landed in Los Angeles with Luis and we’re spending the next four weeks here working. Luckily our beautiful house has a pool and Jacuzzi so we immediately decided to take full advantage to start rid ourselves of our European winter tan. It’s a dirty job etc…

GLASGOW

Luis Baltes, Josh Rhys Owen & myself in Glasgow city by night. Had a great week working in Scotland. The studio we worked in was in Houston, right outside of Glasgow, on the old grounds of the Wallace family. Their most famous family member was William Wallace - as in Braveheart, and nearby was a statue in his honor. It was inspiring to be working in such a historically significant place.

AURORA BOREALIS

While myself and Luis were standing outside the studio in Houston, Scotland (which is kinda in the middle of nowhere) waiting for our taxi after a great recording session with Josh Rhys Owen from RocNation, Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) appeared right before us and put on the mightiest light show on earth. It was an amazing and humbling experience. Sadly the cell phone camera doesn’t come close to doing this justice. It was quite simply majestic.

NORWAY COMES TO HAMBURG

Had a nice visit from Norway. Carina Dahl decided to join myself and Gold (his artist name is actually Arschtritt Lindgren, but I have my reasons for calling him Gold..) in my studio in Hamburg. Got some cool tracks down and we managed to show Carina Reeperbahn in all its glory.

Now a couple of days off and then it’s time to pack for Scotland!

LONG SUMMER DAYS

Today it was 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) in the studio, and to top it all off - before the day was over I was to see lighting strike down right outside one of our windows. It was LOUD. Thankfully nobody got hurt, but it was a righteous reminder from nature how mighty she is.

Writing and recording this whole week in beautiful Copenhagen, Denmark. Tho we’ve actually been here for a few days already so when we leave we will have been here for little over a week. MUSIC IS MY WEAPON

Excited about moving into my brand new studio. Right now we have people measuring the acoustics in what will be the control room so that they can start building and installing the dampening panels on the ceiling and the walls. For all you non sound geeks out there - it simply means we’re making sure there will be as little sound as possible bouncing of the walls when listening to music through the studio speakers, and thus doesn’t ‘fool or confuse’ our ears when mixing.

SANTORINI, GREECE

Had a great week working at Black Rock Studios on the island of Santorini in Greece. Myself and fellow Golden Gate producer Lindgren, went there to work on some new songs with some great and very talented people. It’s an impressive studio that has had quite a few high profile artists and bands working there already - like One Republic and Justin Bieber.

After spending a week there I can fully appreciate why it’s fast becoming one of THE places to record at. Not only is the studio itself awesomely designed and chock full of grade A+ equipment, you literally have a slice of paradise right outside the studio window.

Very sad to hear about the passing of Twisted Sister drummer A.J. Pero. Twisted Sister was one of the first bands that made me want to be a musician and inspired me to pick up the guitar.

The Noble Art of The Mercury

So, in between the writing and the recording we took time off to catch Queen live with the mighty Adam Lambert on vocals. This was both brilliant and frightening at the same time. Brilliant because the live show was one of the best rock shows/performances I’ve ever seen, frightening because the male part of our posse had sworn to have an actual Mercury stache on the grand evening. So when I got home from the studio on the day the show was to take place, I shaved the beard off and for the first time in my life saw my face with a real mustache. What the f**k am I doing?? I then put my aviators on and quickly realized that while it was a pretty cool tribute to Freddie, I could also pull off being a cop in any cheesy 80′s Hollywood movie.. But anyways - my Mercury stache was in place and the evening that commenced was awesome. We of course rounded off the night with going to a karaoke bar on Reeperbahn in Hamburg, singing Queen songs while committing social suicide to the attending people’s delight.

ALL ABOUT THAT BASS

Today was a day of recording bass - the four-stringed, often unsung hero of guitars. There is almost no mightier sound than that of a bass rigged up through a powerful amplifier and great speakers. It was a good way to round off this work week. Oh, and I got my Queen tickets in the mail this morning. Now THAT was a band with a bass player - the awesome John Deacon.

I only have one thing to say: Another One Bites The Dust.

Diving into this brand new year by finishing up a project that’s been in the works since early 2014. Timo is being busy in the background putting the last touches on some mixes we’re doing. It’s for a very talented new artist that will release a debut album later this year.

Can’t wait to get started on the exciting projects and ventures lined up for 2015 - it’s shaping up to be one helluva year.

THE KAISER OF VIENNA

It’s closing in on Christmas and I’m in a very cold but beautiful Vienna, Austria. I’m here to hang out and work with Sham, lead vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter of SONY recording artist Kaiser Franz Josef. They’re a young and exciting rock band currently hard at work on their sophomore album, and I’m having a blast cranking out riffs and generally rocking out in their former gentleman’s club house turned rehearsal space. This kid has pipes reminiscent of 70’s vocal giants like Robert Plant and Ian Gillan, so it’s going to be awesome to hear peoples reactions when this stuff is released.
