Google Inc offered a detailed glimpse into its secret process of ranking Internet websites on Monday, publishing for the first time a list of recent tweaks to its closely guarded search algorithm.

While less than revelatory, the details published on Google's official blog mark a departure for the Internet search leader, as antitrust regulators investigate claims that the company's search process might be biased toward its own business and operations.

Google makes about 500 changes to its search formula every year. In Monday's blogpost, it described 10 recent changes ranging from how it treats Web searches in less-common languages -- such as Swahili -- to refinements around the way it displays results.

Google has outlined tweaks to its search methodology previously, but Monday's blogpost is the first time it has offered this level of detail on a series of adjustments.

The US Federal Trade Commission, which investigates violations of antitrust law, is looking into complaints that Google's search results favor the company's other services, among other issues.

Analysts say Google, which runs an estimated 69 percent of Web searches worldwide, can make or break a company depending on its search ranking.

Google hired 12 lobbying firms this summer in the wake of the FTC probe, after previously hiring six other lobbying firms.

They care for their bulldogs like children and give them unusual treats such as organic biscuits, fresh honey and goats milk, and parsley to cure bad breath.

Karen gives the dogs salmon oil or omega oil every day, multi-vitamins every three days and cod liver oil every week to keep their coats shiny.

The bulldogs' eyes, ears and noses are washed with fragrance-free wipes every morning and they are given a bath with puppy shampoo weekly before being taken to the groomer every month.

The dogs also have their own bedroom, which is filled with tailor-made outfits and accessories sourced from special designer canine shops and baby stores.

The British bulldogs all have their own leather beds with Egyptian cotton quilts and receive individually wrapped birthday presents and Christmas stockings of over £100 a year.

The couple spend £200 a month on organic meat and fresh organic vegetables to make the dogs' food as well as £200 on vitamins and supplements.

They shell out £100 a month on grooming products, £75 on clothes and tiaras and £200 on dog insurance.

The remaining money, totalling £1,225 a month, is spent on toys, blankets, treats, baby wipes, dog sitters and expensive vet bills and insurance.

Karen shows her pack at Crufts dog show every year and they have featured in calendars and on cards dressed up in their special outfits.

She added: 'I had two bulldogs, but when I met Pete we kept egging each other on and got more and more.

'It is so hard to give away puppies after we have bred them.

'We do dress our bulldogs up and have fun with them, but they are fit, healthy and happy dogs and I make sure they stay that way.

'Unregistered puppy breeders give this breed of dog a bad name. It makes me cry when I see all the ill and deformed dogs they are trying to sell.'

Peter added: 'They've got a lovely temperament but they're a bit like a bulldog in a china shop. They will have everything over.

'Hopefully we're going to breed some more but we need to get a bigger place.'

As the guerilla art scene goes, it's more WI than Banksy.

They arrive at night, shrouded by the cover of darkness, leaving their calling cards on a number of landmarks before fleeing. But all is not what it seams.

Some might say this is vandalism at its woolliest. However this is the crocheting craze of yarnbombing. And it could be brightening up a street near you.

Much like traditional graffiti, nothing seems to be off-limits - trees, lamp posts, statues, bike racks... and even cars.

However, unlike spray-paint this 'art' comes away with a simple snip of the thread.

This rainbow-coloured spiderweb crochet design took three months to stitch by an artist known only as Babukatorium.

As part of the 'graffiti knitting' craze people cover public objects with knitting before fleeing.

After spending three months crocheting the intricate design, which features 247 spiderweb circles in 13 colours, Babukatorium spent another three days fixing it to the tree.

The artist from Veszprem, Hungary, was inspired to knit the piece on a tree outside a theatre after watching a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

She said: 'I'm obsessed with spiderwebs and rainbows and so when I saw this tree after the performance I thought it would be perfect for yarnbombing.

'Each piece of mine is based on numerology and colour and there are 39 colour combinations in this piece.

'I used a lot of yarn and attached it with rainbow ribbons. At the end I was exhausted and surprised because I didn't think I would be able to complete it.

'I was also surprised because people love it, and come to visit the tree just to see the work.'

Babukatorium has also covered a tree in glow-in-the-dark yarn.

It is believed 'yarnbombing' originated in Texas, America, with knitters trying to find a creative way to use their leftover and unfinished projects, but it has since spread worldwide.

While the installations may last for years, they are considered non-permanent, and, unlike graffiti, can be easily removed if necessary.

The craze is becoming so popular it has a fan page on Facebook, where guerilla knitters share their creations by posting pictures online.

Dangling precariously from a third-floor window, this smashed truck looks like a prop in the dramatic finale of an action movie blockbuster.

Sadly for the driver, however, there was no Hollywood budget to cover the damages.

Incredible photographs have emerged showing the crash, caused by a 16-ton salt-spreading truck being rammed from inside a third story Sanitation Department repair shop in Queens, New York, into - and through - the outside wall.

Driver Robert Legall, who has worked at the Sanitation Department for 10 years, screamed for help as he dangled in his vehicle in mid-air but thankfully managed to escape unharmed.
Neighbours spoke of their shock after witnessing the accident this morning at 9.30am.

'I heard a loud bang and turned and I saw this truck sticking out of the side of the building,' Frank Almona, who owns a local repair shop, told the New York Post.

'The driver was screaming like crazy. He was saying, "Help, help, help". He was hanging on. He looked like he was in shock.'
Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty said the crash was simple an 'unfortunate accident'.
'There are signs up there warning drivers to slow down,' he said. He [Legall] is familiar with the rules and everyone needs to be safety conscious, so we think it was just an unfortunate accident.'

The huge truck, which is owned by the Department of Corrections and used to clear the roads at Rikers Island, was at the facility in Queens for repairs in preparation for the winter.
When the driver lost control, the vehicle sped through the wall of a repair bay, smashing huge chunks of the building onto parked cars below.
As it perched, hanging three-quarters of the way out of the building, two cars were crushed by the debris but no pedestrians were hurt.

The driver was pulled to safety by an FDNY cherry picker after three quarters of an hour and taken to Elmhurst Hospital in a stable condition.
Mr Doherty added: '[Legall] was lucky he didn’t go though that front windshield. Holding onto the steering wheel saved his life. We’re all very fortunate. That’s the story of today. Everyone is alive.'
Dell Smith, 36, who works at a nearby company, said: 'The driver looked like he was really in shock. They had to bust out the driver’s side window and lift him out. He looked unconscious, and he was a big guy too. I’m glad he made it out alive.'

It's the sort of body art that is usually adorned by clubbers as they dazzle as they dance the night away under a party's UV lights.

But neon paint can also be a rather effective away of drawing attention to yourself in others way, say for a worthy cause - as two sexy sporting personalities have proved.

Former heptathlon medallist Denise Lewis and Sky's Sports' Soccer AM presenter Helen Chamberlain stripped off and got decorated in UV paint to support Cancer Research.

The ladies looked stunning as they modelled the designs - inspired by microscopic images of cancer cells and painted by body paint artist Carolyn Roper.- to show their support for Shine, the UK charity's night-time walking marathon.

Both Helen, 44, and Denise, 38, have a connection to the disease and were happy to pose for the campaign.

Denise said: 'Like most families mine has been touched by cancer. That’s why I decided to disrobe and get body painted to show my support for Cancer Research UK’s night-time walking marathon Shine.

'Taking part in an event like Shine is a great way for men and women to get fit whilst raising money for a great cause at the same time.'

Helen added: 'Taking part in Cancer Research UK’s night-time walking marathon Shine is a brilliant way to get involved and really feel like you are doing your bit.

'All friends, families and colleagues should join forces, sign up now and get in training for the experience of a lifetime!'

The event, which takes place in Glasgow on September 10 and in London on October 1, hopes to raise more than £1 million.

A mid-summer monsoon-style downpour caused flash flooding across the South today as a fortnight's worth of rain fell in just 30 minutes leaving homes, shops and roads underwater.

The force of the rainwater caused huge cracks to open up along main roads and lifted
manhole covers clean off, leading to fountains of water gushing out.

At a beach in Bournemouth - which is normally crowded with holidaymakers at this time of the year - water was flooding off the road, along the beach and into the sea.

MONSOON-LIKE CONDITIONS

The heavy downpour which hit southern England today came so quickly it was likened to a monsoon.
The sudden downpours are common to countries with tropical weather in parts of south-east Asia - but not Britain.
Monsoons are caused by sudden changes in air pressure and different temperatures at land and sea.

Kris Wingfield-Bennett, a 26-year-old technical consultant, said: 'It was absolutely surreal. The shops were all flooding and owners were putting down their shutters in a bid to keep the water out.

'There were loads of people grabbing any sort of shelter they could find, some were paddling in the water streaming down the streets.

'The central gardens were completely under water and huge cracks opened up in the main road in the town centre.

'I heard a loud crack but it was only when the water level started to drop I saw the crack was about 20ft long. It was chaos.'

Hospital appointments were cancelled at the Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital after rainwater flooded in through the ceiling.

'Flash flooding in the Bournemouth area has meant we have had to temporarily close the Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital to incoming patients,' a spokesman said.

'Staff are currently contacting all patients due to visit the Hospital today for both in and out-patient treatment, to inform them not to visit and to explain that all consultations and treatments have been suspended until further notice.'

Dr Richard Wild, from independent weather forecasters Weathernet said that the South had been hit by a huge downpour - but it will be sunny again by the weekend.

'We've had 30mm of rain this morning. The average rainfall for August in 56mm, so it is around half that in just one morning,' he said.

'Anything over 4mm of rain in an hour is considered 'heavy' so this was well beyond that level.

'The rain was forecast, caused by a warm front over the English Channel which is heading north-eastwards, but the amount was underestimated.

'The forecast for Friday and Saturday is sunny and dry but that might be of little consolation to people hit by flooding today.'

She might be a style icon for many but at the end of the day Suri Cruise is still a little girl.

And while her wardrobe might be packed full of fashionable clothes there is one accessory that the she can’t be without – her blanket.

Suri, five, was left devastated when her favourite comforter was absent from the helicopter she and Katie Holmes were travelling in.

She was seen clutching several toys and followed by her mom the little girl clenched her eyes shut and became very tense as she headed towards the already whirring chopper.

Once on board, Suri let rip a barrage of tears, sobbing as she stared out the window.

The little girl could not be consoled and was left with tears streaming down her face as she and her mother waited for the private aircraft to fly off.
But luckily just before take-off a member of staff managed to find her blanket and get it to the little girl in the nick of time.
