Over morning breakfast, I was flipping to the back of The New Yorker to see if this week’s long form pieces were of interest, when I came across Daniel Mendelsohn’s piece. I’d say he’s a big fan of the disaster, but that would read the wrong way. He pieces together an engaging analysis of  why this story remains engrained in our pop culture 100 years later. If you’re a Titanic nerd like me, it’s  definitely worth a read. Let’s just say the ending left me with goosebumps! Read it here.

Top three reasons these rock: They’re nude, which means they will match anything. Visually, they will elongate legs just a little. And they’re cushy and kinda roomy — flats often pinch my pinky toes. Bonus: The bow isn’t over-the-top girly, but just the right amount of feminine.

After price comparing at several sites online, I actually found a pair at Nordstrom Rack on clearance. Retails for $88, but got them for $35. Deal!

At night it’s a raucous hotspot with dancer poles and drinks all around. There’s even a little corner dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor where a portrait hangs in her honor.

Weekdays at breakfast it’s quiet and low key. The perfect place to take a morning meeting, sip a mimosa and try this amazing waffle. It’s topped with huckleberries — they’re dainty, cute little berries — a dollop of brown sugar butter and Meyer lemon  maple syrup.

Aside from gardening, building beautiful floral arrangements is one of her favorite things to do. This week I picked up some deep violet daisies and light pink ranunculus to put this theory to the test.

Lola is right, of course.

Who knows if there is anyone left reading out there, but nonetheless, I’m getting back on track with what I’d like to accomplish on this blog. And what’s that you ask? Well, I’d like to think of it as a conversation between me and some pals. It’s a lighter forum for me to share things that make me smile, and hopefully, you too!

I spend my days, and let’s be honest, also nights, running Hollywood Patch — a news and information website about the town that I live in. It’s a great gig and it can be fun, but it can also be pretty grim. Case in point: the Hollywood arsonist, that guy who decided to open fire at Sunset and Vine, and most recently, the body parts scattered in the Hollywood Hills. Yowza!

Ever since the royal wedding, it’s been an addiction of mine to keep up with what the Duchess of Cambridge is wearing. It’s refreshing to have a public figure with a sense of fashion that seems to effortlessly balance lady-like style with a modern twist. Designers have also noticed and are incorporating elements of this in their upcoming collections. It’s an interesting read in the New York Times.

Catherine is, in Mr. Burstell’s term, “the anti-Kardashian,” a bracing antithesis to the strident style and manner of many Hollywood celebrities, who “look so phony by comparison,” he said, “with their paid endorsements and brand-ambassador deals.” Diane Von Furstenberg, whose dresses the duchess has worn, said that she represents a craving for a proper alternative to the “housewives,” a reference to the popular television reality series.
