Rob Liotti Cast To Star In Political/Mob Drama "Family Values"

Actor Rob Liotti, who was originally cast as the late Australian singer, Bon Scott, has taken on a new role as a mobster-turned-gubernatorial-candidate, Anthony Morelli, in a dramatic cable pilot called, "Family Values".

The actor recently noted the stark contrast between the characters of the late AC/DC singer and his new role, but did mention that the Bon Scott film "is not dead".

Filmmakers with High Voltage Productions, based in Charleston, SC. USA, experienced resistance from AC/DC and the Bon Scott Estate over the proposed biopic, but a very well known producer in Los Angeles is looking at the project as of this date. Many fans simply do not understand the band's resistance given the international audience awaiting its production, and many fans (and professionals) have stated that the film is not only a tribute to Scott, but also directly promotes the band and exposes them to new paying fans. Nonetheless, AC/DC has resisted involvement with the film or sanctioning the biopic.

Thousands of fans were actually pushing for the band [AC/DC] to give Liotti an opportunity to front the band after longtime lead vocalist, Brian Johnson, experienced hearing issues.

"Yes, I was in contact with the band offering to help them finish their tour, but that decision was up to Angus. Was Axl [Rose] a better choice? In my opinion, no, but it isn't my band. I would have actually made them sound like AC/DC, but he did a decent job," Liotti stated.

The "Family Values" pilot is a clear departure from the rock biopic, but that is expected. Looking at official press photos, it is a vivid transformation as Liotti's character is clearly poised to wreak havoc in the most cerebral of ways as a New York mafia family heir who enters politics.

On board for the pilot are director J.R. Getches and producer Michael Meltzer who worked with Liotti on the Bon Scott film. The pilot is currently in development and preliminary casting is nearly complete.

AC/DC's New Singer?

With the untimely news of AC/DC lead vocalist, Brian Johnson, leaving the band due to warnings from physicians about impending hearing loss, there is again a void in the machine that is AC/DC. He will need replaced if AC/DC is to continue forward and to at a minimum fulfill its current tour schedule.

Many fans have lobbied for one obvious choice - Rob Liotti, the singer/actor who was slated to star as the late AC/DC singer, Bon Scott, in a biopic about his life and career.

As fans know, founding member, Malcolm Young, was tragically diagnosed with dementia and heart issues prior to the recording of "Rock or Bust". Young's nephew and ex-Starfighters rhythm guitarist, Stevie Young was drafted for the second time to replace Malcolm this time rather than fill in. Then, drummer Phil Rudd ran into legal issues that brought back replacement drummer, Chris Slade, for the second time. Only Angus Young and longtime bassist, Cliff Williams remain.

But what about Liotti as a replacement for Johnson?

Many fans have mentioned him as the obvious choice or certainly high on the list, not as a tribute singer brought in to imitate Scott, but for the fact that he has written and performed other music, has his own style, and can competently pull off both Scott and Johnson era tunes. It is also noteworthy that the singer simply does not have the wear and tear on him and his voice that years of touring, racing, and smoking have brought to bear on Johnson.

"Unless fans are living in a bubble, Brian's voice has not been what it was since "For Those About To Rock", especially live", according to one music insider.

While it is true that the actor has performed in an AC/DC tribute in the past, it is also fair to mention that AC/DC's current drummer has also performed such gigs which has had no negative effect upon his performance. In fact, it is an advantage that Liotti is so well-versed and studied in those things AC/DC. One has to understand the dynamic of that band to pull off this replacement while injecting his own energy and style. But, fans expect to see AC/DC all the same. A Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar, Sebastian Bach, etc. are not going to cut it with AC/DC. It's just not within their skillset.

Honestly, AC/DC could use the new blood and energy. Liotti is considerably younger than Johnson and it is public knowledge that he consumes no alcohol and does not smoke. He clearly hits the highs of Johnson and Scott past which should inject some new found life into the band. That's not a bad thing, and the reality is he is probably going to attract more female fans while maintaining their working-class grit.

Let's face it, AC/DC can still do it, but in fairness to Johnson, the vocalist is almost 70-years-old, and it is inevitable that these issues are going to arise. The truth is that no one thought Bon Scott could be replaced, and he was... Original singer, Dave Evans, was replaced by Scott. Cliff Williams replaced bassist, Mark Evans.

No one wants to see Brian Johnson go, but Rob Liotti can take his place and the band will go on until Angus Young calls it quits.

Bon Scott Movie Now Crowdfunding On GoFundMe

High Voltage Productions recently announced that they have started a crowdfunding campaign at GoFundme.com.

Producers chose the platform after receiving feedback from fans as to the ease of contributing, no fees, and their site.

Contributions have started to trickle in, however, HVP did admit that "December is not the best month to start..." but stated that they wanted to "get an early start."

Producer Michael Meltzer has tentatively projected the start of some principal photography in the Spring of 2016 and also stated that preliminary casting has begun.

High Voltage Productions has teamed with GoFundMe to start their crowdfunding campaign platform starting December 2, 2015.

Producers are asking for contributions to the campaign to help with expensive production costs typically associated with filming.

There are three special levels for contributions according to the producers that can be seen on their campaign site.

"We wanted to offer some special packages to contributors who really stepped up. There is a 'Rock Star' Level for $5000 contributions, a Gold Level for $2500 contributions, and a Silver Level for $1000 contributions," said one of the producers.

High Voltage Productions is teaming with some other undisclosed production companies and professionals to produce the filming scheduled for Spring 2016, and fans will sure look forward to finally seeing something on film about the late, great Bon Scott.

News of the upcoming Bon Scott biopic hit the rock and roll community by storm, but little is known about the level of preparation that took place well before the news hit the airwaves. It is no mystery that physical transformations have been untaken by many actors where they have adjusted their look and body composition for a specific role. Just look at Robert DeNiro, Sylvester Stallone, and Christian Bale who have undertaken major body transformation to both good and bad extents just to provide a stunningly accurate characterization of their subject. The Bon Scott biopic bears the same effort.

Rob Liotti, the actor chosen by High Voltage Productions to portray AC/DC's late singer, Bon Scott, is generally best known as a musician, although he has had acting parts under his belt with small background roles in feature films, television appearances, voiceover, commercials, and stage plays dating back to childhood. As a recording artist who experienced some success back in the late 80's and mid-90's with bands such as High Voltage, Honeygun, and Suite 16, he has probably been best known for his uncanny ability to mimic the late Bon Scott's vocal styling - a feat often ventured but seemingly never fully gained. He has performed in front of thousands of awed fans in an AC/DC tribute band called, T.N.T.

When Director J.R. Getches initially sat down with the actor to discuss his vision for the production, Liotti was a healthy, imposing 6'2, 220lbs. All who have known him would not blink an eye as they have always known him to be a frequent patron of a gym and always active. And it is no secret that Liotti was a standout athlete recruited in football and baseball. But Getches knew that to pull this project together, he had to not only secure 'the voice' of Bon Scott, but more importantly the vision of Bon Scott. In doing so, the director had a conversation with Liotti requesting that he 'lose twenty pounds' for the role. The actor had the motivation and began in earnest.

The actor, who is a longtime member of Gold's Gym in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, and is certainly no stranger to athletic facilities began a self-guided physical regimen that would ultimately lead to a healthy 50-pound weight loss and a total-body-reset according to the actor.

- How did your team decide what needed done for your character or did you make that decision?

"After I met with J.R., I felt discouraged for a few minutes, and then I decided that I was used to this level of dedication in my past to excel at athletics and that my new goal was paramount to making this project happen. In essence, I felt like I was the person best-suited to play Bon, and the entire production was dependent upon me," Liotti said.

- So, what steps did you take next once you realized what the production company expected?

"I started my program at 220 lbs. and quickly figured out that I was going to need to employ a very diverse regimen of exercise to achieve results. It consisted of a pretty strict diet, adjusting my weight- training to higher repetitions and lower weight, employing crossfit type exercises, and cardio work. Essentially, I ate great, rode my bike at least 100 miles a week, and was at the gym sometimes three times a day. But, this work translated into an average loss of 4 lbs. per month and working through the plateaus that would come at every 10 lbs. of bodyweight loss, which I thought was a healthy progression," he added.

- Did anything else motivate you to hit your goal?

"One of the most annoying things that happened early on when news of the project leaked was fan feedback. Not that I am annoyed by fans, don't get me wrong, but for those of you that have not had that wonderful limelight shone upon you, you get haters!" he laughs. "And, one of the unfortunate aspects of publicity is a fan(s) saying 'he's too fat to play Bon' on some magazine website that you happen upon. Not fun... Notwithstanding, I knew what I had in front of me and, honestly, they were right. Bon and the rest of AC/DC were/are not terribly tall guys. Mark Evans (ex-AC/DC) has often remarked that he felt like a footballer at 5'6 compared to his bandmates. (Mark is an avid footballer and fan btw!)

- Did you have a trainer to guide you through the process?

"Actually, no. I have trained pretty much my whole life starting when I was 6-years-old or so. I think I got my first weight set at 8 or 9. I was always really fortunate to have gotten good instruction and coaching, so I luckily didn't need much direction. But this type of training was somewhat new to me. I actually used to be an AAU Ranked power lifter. I ranked third in the State of Ohio at one time. But this type of training was really different. It included a lot more cardio work and getting myself on the floor planking, plyometrics, climbers, blah, blah. All of it. I did go to my buddy, Rob Baxter, who has been with Gold's for some time and I said, 'look, if I start to look strange, too thin, or unhealthy, please TELL me!' and he agreed.

- Did that ever happen?

"Well, we have to fast-forward, but the crux of it was that I hit it hard for like a year and got on the scale one day and it read 168 lbs. So, I went and asked Rob if it was too much and he said to eat a bit more and put a few pounds back on. So, yeah, I looked a bit gaunt at one point. For me, though, I haven't been at this weight since my freshman year in high school. Since then, I have tried to and have been successful hovering at about 180 lbs. and have consistently done so."

- You are talking a 50 lb. weight loss! Do you feel better?

"Absolutely! You know, before I lost that weight, I felt perfectly fine. I would have never imagined needing to do that. No one ever said that I looked overweight. But, here I am playing with my goddaughter who was like 9-years-old and kids that age love to run! I would say, 'Baby, you are wearing your Uncle Robbie out'. LOL. In hindsight, I was not as energetic and think about it: 50 lbs. of weight off your body and eight less inches on your waist. I mean, how can't you move and feel better? To make it worse, she is now a serious competitive swimmer with a specialty in butterfly. She does open-water swims, meets, you name it. She's an animal. LOL. But, I have always tried to set that example of being fit for her, and she has definitely taken it to another level. Extremely dedicated young girl.

- Was the production company happy with your results?

"Most definitely. I really don't think they had those expectations, but I went as far as I felt necessary without compromising my health. Let's face it, am I taller than Bon? Absolutely, but you can compensate for height many different ways on film. It is very difficult to do anything positive about extra weight. Basically, I wasn't seen in any publicity shots or video for over a year I think. Then, all of a sudden, a Greek magazine called, Burst, did a cover story about me and the project. Needless to say, no one has ever made another comment about my body being right for the film. LOL. Now, I have heard other B.S. reasons for discontent, but not about my body. LOL. J.R. still compliments me every time he sees me which feels great. Losing it is one thing for sure. Not relapsing is the tough part. Once you hit that goal, it is much easier to maintain, though."

- What is the current state of the movie?

"People ask me that a lot. It's understandable, of course. Movies are so difficult to get greenlit - no matter how great the concept. Our producer, Michael Meltzer, has talked with many Hollywood production people about this project. I have personally always seen it as an international television movie, but that is just me. Movies take a long time to obtain production, but by the same token a ton of useless garbage seemingly gets made without a hitch. In this case, there is serious money potential here, and that is what interests film investors. That's just the business. No one has given up on it. It just takes time."

Bon Scott Producers Cannot Come To An Agreement With Amazon Studios

Producers of the much discussed Bon Scott biopic, Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC Unauthorised, have announced that they were unable to reach an agreement with Amazon Studios who optioned the story. Producer Michael Meltzer, who has himself worked on a dozen or so films, has worked tirelessly to secure a production deal for the highly-anticipated film, but has oft made clear that even a film of this pre-production popularity is difficult to get made.

Amazon Studios optioned the story fairly recently, but Bon Scott producers could not negotiate the terms that were acceptable to get the project greenlit. Similar issues persisted with NBCUniversal in London, although the issues that trumped that deal seemed to have been directly related to the fact that NBCUniversal's subsidiary now has controlling interest over AC/DC's music catalogue.

A source at High Voltage Productions in the United States commented that, "we have negotiated with some big names in the film industry for certain, but many of them are looking to budget $20M+ feature films, have a crack cast in place, and have 10%-20% secured funding in place prior to formulating a distribution deal and production bond. This isn't that type of film and has caused an ongoing impasse."

The source went on to add, "To our team, this is a true independent film, although we are now leaning very strongly towards an international television licensing deal or a network here in the U.S. It is prime for that wealthy investor fan who wants to make a movie of passion rather than the typical cookie-cutter, tenth-sequel franchise flick."

The film's star and principal writer, Rob Liotti, commented, "I haven't been shy about expressing the good and bad surrounding this project. Networks are starved for good content and more and more networks pop up weekly. Sooner or later, someone is going to have to address new content. The fact is that even projects are popular as this one are difficult to get produced to say the least. It is amazing what garbage is out there and on television as we speak, but... Bottom line is that a lot of AC/DC fans wanted instantaneous production results and a film to be ready in 12 months. Reality is that even many of the very well-performing films starring A-list actors and crews sometimes take years to be greenlit and enter principal photography."

AC/DC have also not been the biggest proponents of the project either. Prior to Malcolm Young's untimely medical condition and departure from the band, AC/DC's legal team and that of Albert Productions made very clear that they did not support the project. Furthermore, the Bon Scott Estate flatly refused any amount of money to cooperate with producers, thus making the project 'unauthorised' but certainly legal, according to legal scholars at Stanford University who reviewed the project's legalities.

Producers seem to be eying such networks as AXS, fuse, VH1, etc. in the United States, although it seem clear that given the international flavour of this project that it could easily end up a U.K. or Aussie production. It remains to be seen...

One thing is clear: fans want it, and producers want to make it.

Hendrix and Judas Priest Documentaries Clear The Way For Bon Scott Docudrama

Two recent film releases make the reality of the Bon Scott docudrama more feasible. "Jimi : All By My Side" and "Dream Deceivers" (about Judas Priest) have likely done much to clear the way from a legal standpoint for the Bon Scott project in development. The film is prospectively called, "Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC Unauthorized."

As the global rock community likely now knows, an American production company, High Voltage Productions, LLC., has been working diligently on the Bon Scott project, but like the two aforementioned flicks, received legal threats from estates and record labels claiming "infringement" amongst other claims. In the case of the Bon Scott project, NBC Universal were the apparent company of interest until their music division nixed the deal due to their control of AC/DC's music catalogue. Attorneys for AC/DC in New York issued threats of action should the project continue and were followed similarly by Bon Scott's estate solicitor in Sydney.

It now seems , however, that judicial rulings have consistently been in favor of filmmakers in the Hendrix and Priest projects paving the way for documentarians to tell a story about public figures. In the case of the Judas Priest doc, legal wranglings have persisted since 1992 over use of copyrighted material in the form of music from the band. In the case of John Ridley's (12 Years a Slave) portrait of Hendrix, he told his story simply absent of actual Hendrix recordings. "Dream Deceivers" pushed the envelope and threshold of the Fair Use Doctrine in law by lobbying the courts for reasonable use of Judas Priest's actual recordings in order to tell the story. They prevailed. In both cases, the filmmakers portrayed the characters using actors or the subjects themselves. In any case, the fact that these two films cleared the courts legally and made it to the media delivery stage creates a clear pathway for the Bon Scott project to follow suit.

According to Director J. R. Getches, the Bon Scott docudrama is set to portray the Aussie rock legend true-to-form: troubled, lonely, a larrikin, a hard drinker, a wordsmith, a sexual rocker, a malcontent.

"We want to portray Bon accurately and capture the mood around him at the time," said Getches. "Rob Liotti, the film's writer and star, tried to painstakingly on point while capturing Bon's spirit in the story, " he added.

The film's star, Rob Liotti, who is slated to portray the late Scott commented, "The Hendrix and Priest films clear the way for this project, although I felt confident all along. We have a First Amendment right to tell this story and we have the ability to utilize the Fair Use Doctrine in assisting us to do so. The rulings in these cases are consistent with nearly everything I have researched regarding the court's feedback on doc filmmaking. We are trying to literally educate the public about this guy's life and tribulations. What the hell is the problem with that?"

Currently, the filmmakers are prepping for the theatrical trailer which will be filmed on location in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. High Voltage Productions recently enlisted Emmy Award winning cinematographer, John Barnhardt, who eagerly joined the team that is rounded out by producer Michael Meltzer. Meltzer has been involved with a number of films and is known for his easygoing approach with those in Hollywood.

The project is in high demand by fans who has longed for such a production. Unfortunately, it is well-known that AC/DC and Albert Productions guard rock's top export sometimes with an unreasonable veracity that may not measure up legally.

"I mean, the band's [AC/DC] lawyers went so far as to attempt to forbid me from speaking to 'current or former members' of the band... Come on! They're reaching. I talk to some of these people. There is zero harm in that, let alone anything illegal," Liotti persisted.

"Look, I have said it numerous times: I am all about supporting AC/DC. Been there, done that for years. Plus, with Malcolm Young's departure from the band, in addition to Bon being deceased, the respect needs to flow both ways. I fully support their artistic efforts and expect the same in return," added the actor.

"We will simply keep pushing until we find the right production fit. We are prepping our package for some companies in our sights who are awaiting our material. Hell, I'll go talk to Bill Murray. He lives 5 minutes away from me. The film is going to happen..."

Star of Bon Scott Docudrama Comments On Malcolm Young's Illness and Absence From AC/DC

Rob Liotti, screenwriter and star of the highly-anticipated Bon Scott docudrama, Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC Unauthorised, has been seemingly mum since the announcement that Malcolm Young would not participate in the recording of AC/DC's upcoming album due to health issues.

In a recent statement, Liotti said, "First, I am very saddened to hear about Malcolm's health issues. The guy has been a huge inspiration to me as a guitarist and songwriter, and I feel awful for his family. This is a huge blow to AC/DC as Malcolm has always really been the driving force behind them. Can they function without him? Certainly... Stevie Young is perfectly capable of stepping in for Mal as he did in 1988. However, it is a bit different dynamic with respect to the fact that he has recorded on the upcoming album."

"Stevie [Young] is an accomplished guitarist clearly influenced by his Uncle Malcolm. His work in Starfighters was good stuff, and he clearly cut the mustard when he toured with the band in '88," he continued.

A representative for HVP said, "The announcement of John's involvement with the project brought over 13,000 Facebook views in a (24) hour period. The news spread very quickly."

Director J.R. Getches, who is prepping for the trailer said, "John brings a wealth of knowledge and resources to the production side of this. We are excited!"

Bon Scott Documentary Filmmakers Enlist Emmy Award Winning Cinematographer As Project Moves Forward

Bon Scott fans will undoubtedly be elated as progress moves forward on the widely-reported documentary rockudrama, Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC Unauthorised. High Voltage Productions has officially enlisted Emmy Award wielding cinematographer, John Barnhardt, of Barnfly Productions to collaborate on filming of the proper trailer for the project. This has been verified after talks commenced between High Voltage Productions and the filmmaker.

News surrounding the project has been somewhat sparse for the past few months as a potential deal with NBC Universal in London was nixed due to internal conflict within parent company between Universal’s film and music division. Sony, a subsidiary of Universal, now controls AC/DC’s music catalogue, although Albert Productions surely retains options and artistic influence.

The teaming of Barnfly Productions and High Voltage Productions, along with the expertise of Barnhardt, is proof-positive that the project and its principals are moving forward. Barnhardt, a former college film instructor, left the seemingly secure surroundings of academia to cast out and pursue his own passion. Fast-forward six years and the cinematographer has not only scored a coveted Emmy, but has and is traveling the world shooting for Charleston, SC. based Litton Entertainment for eight years, and his work is seen on multiple networks.

According to High Voltage Productions, “John Barnhardt was recommended to us and some within our team were familiar with his work and unredoubtable work ethic.”

The film’s writer and star, Rob Liotti, stated, “John’s work and vision deserve no apologies. He is the real deal. He is an ardent Bon Scott fan, so he gets it. I am certain he will bring a great dynamic to the effort as we move forward. Face it, the better he is, the better I look,” he laughed.

Director J.R. Getches commented, “The addition of John to the team brings considerable experience and resources to the production side of the project.”

It is unclear as to whether the filmmakers are approaching Litton Entertainment, but High Voltage Productions has not ruled out the possibility that letting me be a viable company and we feel may benefit from an interest in this film production.

" As of this time, we have not engaged in any negotiations with Litton Entertainment. However, John [Barnhardt] is clearly associated with and works for them. Naturally, it would make sense to attempt to get an audience with Mr. Morgan at Litton if the opportunity presented itself," Liotti stated.

The interview examines some of the issues pertaining to the much anticipated music docudrama and gives a first glimpse into Liotti's feelings and opinions concerning the project being produced by High Voltage Productions, LLC.

"I had a great interview with Jay, and he asked alot of informed questions," the singer remarked.

It has also been reported that High Voltage Productions is currently in talks with another major production company concerning the project. They have been tight-lipped thus far, although they did previously acknowledge the potential deal with NBC Universal that did not come to fruition.

A representative for HVP said, "Like any other responsible production company, we don't want to disclose our negotiations until such time as a solid deal and all have agreed to publicize the union. What is unique about this project is that it has received considerable attention worldwide even before being shot. It is a hot project, and we want to do everything right to see that it meets expectations."

Bon Scott Docudrama Star Speaks With Radio Personality Jay Conroy

The star of 'Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC Unauthorised' recently spoke with hard rock presenter, Jay Conroy, of RockHardRadio1.com in what what is described as a no-holes-barred interview about the current state of the film project.

High Voltage Productions, LLC. who is the production company behind the film, stated that "Jay Conroy is a guy who talks with many of rock music's heavyweights... and we felt that he and Rob would mesh well in an interview situation."

The interview is set for first airing on Thursday, February 27, 2014.

HVP, LLC. also reported that, "Jay apparently asked some pretty pointed questions about some of the legal wranglings and threats by AC/DC and the Bon Scott Estate against the project..." which were apparently fielded by their star who also served as a screenwriter.

According to High Voltage Productions, LLC., the American production company developing the highly-publicised Bon Scott docudrama, they have come up with an innovative funding participation method that could help a lucky fan become $25,000.00 richer.

“AC/DC and Bon Scott Estate Move to Block Docudrama About Late Singer”

AC/DC’s 40th anniversary seems to have a chink in its armour as controversy seems to be looming around a planned docudrama film about their fallen lead vocalist, Bon Scott. Ronald Belford Scott died tragically, but not surprisingly, back in February 1980 from what the U.K. coroner ruled as “Death By Misadventure” after a drinking binge in London. For some six years, Scott gained a reputation as a rock and roll frontman that would later earn him honours as the greatest frontman of all time according to some prominent rock periodicals.

High Voltage Productions, LLC. a film production company based out of Charleston, South Carolina in the United States, has been working on a docudrama film about Scott since late 2012 and have received worldwide attention concerning the project. The film’s star, actor/musician, Rob Liotti, skyrocketed into the limelight after being named as the actor to portray the late frontman and has become quite well-known in the entertainment community. Naturally, this is to be expected given the gravity and anticipation of a movie finally taking shape about the Aussie music icon’s career. AC/DC has a massive fan base that stretches across every continent.

Why then the controversy?

It has been learned that New York City attorneys for AC/DC, its production company, Albert Productions Pty., and its branding company, along with solicitors out of Sydney, Australia representing the Estate of Bon Scott, have both threatened legal action against the producers should the project move forward. Both have sent letters to the company that ask for production to cease and desist and both firms have made rather overreaching demands against the company that would seem to completely discount and ignore something called the First Amendment, in the opinion of the company.

“How many unauthorised biographies and documentaries have been made about everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Jimi Hendrix? Filmmakers have a right to tell a story without tortious interference. Naturally, there are boundaries… But a lot of these networks and filmmakers REALLY push those boundaries and still produce their product. The screenwriter had enough respect as a fan of the band to tell the story properly and truthfully based upon facts already well-known and public - a lot of which the band readily discloses themselves!”

News of the project spread like wildfire as the media and fans of Scott and AC/DC worldwide learned that a project was in the works. It was reported a few months ago that media moguls, NBC Universal in London, U.K. had the project in their hands and were giving serious consideration to an acquisition deal for international television distribution. NBC Universal had actually reached out to the American production company after seeing the media blitz. The fact that one of the largest entertainment companies in the world reached outside for a project rather than plucking it out of a stack full of wannabe TV and movie submissions is nearly unheard of in today’s media market. Thus, one sees the gravity of the project and the demand for its completion. It seems, however, that when NBC Universal made enquiries about licensure of AC/DC’s music for the film, the band’s legal team immediately took the prospect of the film actually coming to fruition very seriously and initiated what appears to be a campaign against the filmmakers.

The attorney, Stuart Prager of Grubman Indursky & Shire, P.C. in NYC, speaking on their behalf scoffed, “This movie WILL NOT get made…!” in a phone call to counsel for HVP. The law firm represents such artists as U2, Lady Gaga, and the Whitney Houston Estate. It has been reported that Mr. Prager has had former dealings with Universal and familiarity with the company.

Yet, there seems to be no basis whatsoever for the current posture of the band or the estate of the late singer according to experts at Stanford University Law School who review cases like this as part of a First Amendment and Fair Use endowment at the prestigious university. Their experts consulting with HVP’s legal team saw “no infringement whatsoever…” but did recommend amending the film’s title to reflect that the docudrama was ‘unauthorised’. Such amendment has been made without hesitation.

Judges have been very consistent about ruling in favor of documentary filmmakers when SLAAP suits or threats thereof pervade. SLAAP suits are “a strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP) that is intended to censor, intimidate, or silence critics by burdening them with the cost of a legal defense until they abandon their criticism or opposition.” In other words, overwhelm the little guy with so much legal wrangling and attorney’s fees that they fold, wither, and blow away - especially in a David vs. Goliath case like this.

Again, the question that prevails is: Why? Why is there such opposition to this much-anticipated project nearly thirty-four years later?

High Voltage Productions disclosed to NBC Universal and other production houses enquiring that they “did not ever anticipate the agreeable licensure of AC/DC’s music for the film.” Further, they disclosed that they had contacted AC/DC’s longtime production company, Albert Productions Pty. in Australia prior to undertaking any development of the film to “respectfully inform Malcolm Young and Alberts of our plans and to faithfully request the opportunity to license their music for such and important project…” The friendly correspondence went unanswered.

AC/DC, one of the highest grossing musical acts of all-time, can do nothing but benefit from such a project. It is readily known that many unauthorized biographical documentaries have been produced and broadcasted without incident. And networks like E! would be out-of-business if they were unable to broadcast real-life ‘True Hollywood Stories’ and often seedy-but-true docs on celebrities. They do it because they have a First Amendment right to free speech and they are not purposely injuring, defaming, or violating the privacy of the individual because they are broadcasting true and cited information. AC/DC and the late singer’s estate stand to gain nothing but more fame and popularity through publicity surrounding the film and surely an increase in music sales - especially back-catalogue material that was recorded during the years Scott performed with and wrote for AC/DC. They stand to make yet more money after the Young Family (Angus and Malcolm et al) were recently named one of Australia’s wealthiest families.

Oddly enough, AC/DC has always been about ‘sticking it to The Man’ as is heard ad nauseum in their lyrics. They speak incessantly of being held down and handcuffed by the establishment. Yet in 2013, it appears that they may have actually become The Man whilst aligning themselves with fiscal giants like Wal-Mart, iTunes, the Iron Man franchise, etc. To fans, this departure may be troubling. It is also no secret that Bon Scott may have been on his way out of AC/DC at the time of his demise and as far back as 1975 - either by the hand of the band and their handlers or by his own fruition. In either case, he was likely moving on and often discussed a solo career. Bottom line: no one is accountable for what never happened. He is simply gone and an AC/DC martyr that can be held up as a rock hero. And he is...

The fact is that “Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC Unauthorised” is a movie about Bon Scott, not AC/DC in and of themselves. The band, while certainly relevant, is incidental to the whole of the story, as is their music. Most ‘fans’ of Scott (who was most recently voted Australia’s second most popular singer of all time) only came to know him as “AC/DC’s singer who died…” and are oft unaware that he was actually not even their first vocalist and actually replaced original singer, Dave Evans, who now lives in Texas. Moreover, there are at least two generations of fans who, through no fault of their own, are only familiar with Back in Black forward to present-day. So, this film promises to bring a whole new throng of fans to admire the machine that is now AC/DC and to many, and obscure Australian rock icon called Bon Scott.

“One thing that is extremely troubling about this whole matter is that you hear AC/DC’s music on everything from Wal-Mart commercials to ridiculous reality shows. But the band sends what is reported to be the most powerful entertainment law firm in the country to attack a small production company with threats of injunctions and litigation because we asked about using their music and expressed our intention to lawfully exercise our First Amendment right. So, we get threats of an injunction while some half-wit reality show about tow trucks uses “Highway to Hell”. Wow… that is a real tribute to Bon.”

If the name of the game is money, then AC/DC are on top of their game. All agree that they have earned their way to the top of the heap. We salute you. Vocalist Brian Johnson and his wife, as well as bassist Cliff Williams and his wife do wonderful charity work through their philanthropy in Florida where they both reside. But money is meant to be made by all. Filmmakers tell stories; some better than others. For those who detract, almost thirty-four years have gone by and no one has made this movie. The Australian government, who funds filmmaking in Scott’s adopted home country, only agreed to fund $20,000 AUS for a seemingly gimme project. Obviously not what is needed. High Voltage Productions has reportedly spoken with some possible executive producers to fund the project, but have not yet gotten the desired commitment.

“As movies go, this is not a ‘big’ budget project per se. Certainly, $5M is nothing to scoff at, and we feel like that is a realistic figure. If the right person/company came with $4M and it was the right fit, we do our damndest to make that budget work. If someone comes with $8M and says ‘do what you need’ then all the better. But, this project is not all about money. We actually care about the subject-matter. Naturally we want the project to be profitable, but getting the film made and in-the-can matters most right now and seeing that our investor recoups their capital.”

“We also have a big advantage: South Carolina and North Carolina both offer very attractive film incentives and rebates with the passage of current legislation. For an executive producer funding the project, that means a great deal. Many big budget films have shot here, and we have the studio facilities, personnel, and apparatus to make it happen. You would see a lot of the same names in credits as you would have seen in ‘The Notebook’, ‘The Patriot’, ‘Army Wives’, ‘Reckless’, ‘Ace Ventura 2’, and so on. Plus, we have the plausible location settings to pull it off with the proper authenticity.”

“We have already shot a teaser trailer with Rob Liotti portraying Bon. It was historic as it was the first dramatic footage ever shot of Bon Scott’s character or of that which is AC/DC. I know the director, J.R. Getches, would be the first to tell you that the actor definitely channels the late Scott and that they have the right guy for the role. Plus the story is all there. While bogging us down with legal paperwork may delay the project, there is absolutely nothing defamatory or damaging to AC/DC or Bon Scott’s Estate about telling a true story, nor does it infringe on their privacy or brand plate. We aren’t forging belt buckles and printing tee shirts with their name.”

Obviously, High Voltage Productions is simply attempting to fill an artistic void. They want to tell a story about the tragic death of a talented young man who came from humble beginnings and was full of personality and the vigor to be someone special. He wanted to be a rock star… Bringing this story to life is an hommage; it satisfies the desire of past, present, and future fans to examine and appreciate life’s lessons and whether it is truly desirable to be famous and revered. Is it a control issue? Is it money? Is it the fear of unknown truth being exposed? Trying to prevent such artistic expression is a complete denial of the fact that had it not been for Bon Scott, AC/DC would surely not be as relevant after forty years.

Amid much speculation and a prior announcement indicating a query from “one of the world’s largest entertainment and production companies...”, it has been revealed that High Voltage Productions, LLC., producers of the upcoming docudrama, Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC, have been in talks with NBC Universal in London, U.K. News of the contact had been leaked last week in the U.K.

High Voltage Productions, LLC. was contacted by the international division of NBC Universal and its acquisitions department after seeing the large amount of publicity surrounding the project in the U.K. and abroad. NBC Universal is said to have been interested in the project for its international appeal to the commonwealth and other countries where the late Australian icon, Bon Scott, and his band, AC/DC, have had great impact and large audiences.

Execs from High Voltage Productions have been tight-lipped as to the negotiations between them and the leading production and distribution company, but have now confirmed that “the rumours are in fact confirmed. We would rather protect the veracity of the information by issuing it ourselves rather than through ‘leaked’ information.”

"We have not signed a deal with Universal Pictures at this time and are still considering offers from other companies. As I said from the very beginning, we are open to an independent executive producer, network, or film company. The American actor who is slated to star as Bon Scott in the upcoming docudrama entitled, Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC is planning to hit the live stage sometime after the upcoming Labor Day 2013 holiday in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

Plans have been put in motion to reunite the original line-up of T.N.T. , the band that put the singer on the map for AC/DC fans back in 2004 and that led to the actor's role in the film project. It has been speculated that the chosen venue will likely be a beach club called, The Windjammer. While the venue is not Charleston's largest, it has been an extremely popular spot for bands from Hootie and The Blowfish to Big Head Todd and countless others.

Slated to perform with Liotti are: Chris Barrineau as Angus Young, David Dunning as Malcolm Young, Ben Polk as Cliff Williams, and Jeff Mangan as Phil Rudd.

"This is a powerhouse line-up of well-known musicians. They have not performed together since 2007, so Charleston and fans who make the trek to the venue are in for a treat..." said a source close to the band.

Asked about the line-up, Rob Liotti commented, "It is great to see this put together, and I am looking forward to hitting the stage with these guys. These guys are all pro players and know how to get it done. We will definitely give fans a night to remember."

The source added, "The venue could change, but I think they are looking at The Windjammer because they used to pack it out and so many people saw them there. I mean, Jason Aldean and his band (including Rob's friend and pedal steel player Jay Jackson) saw fit to show up and do a set there recently, so it is a great spot."

Most recently, producers of the upcoming film have been in talks with one of the world's largest entertainment and production companies and news of the film and awareness of its star have sky-rocketed worldwide. Rob Liotti, the lead actor and screenwriter of Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC has departed with his beloved 1996 Gretsch Double-Cutaway Silver Jet. The guitar was recent sold at auction for an undisclosed sum to a private buyer in Atlanta, Georgia. The collector stated that he wished to remain anonymous on his purchase. Loyal AC/DC fans may know that Malcolm Young is another lover of Gretsch guitars, and his mainstay workhorse since AC/DC's formation has been a Gretsch Jet Firebird. He has also been seen with a Gretsch White Falcon and Gretsch Round Up, as well as an LS-6 Gibson and some other assorted models including his own signature models. The guitar was mainly used by Liotti's fellow bandmate, guitarist Matt Flewelling.

Well, AC/DC fans worldwide seem to be moving one step closer to a film paying hommage to their late Australian rock hero, Bon Scott. In fact, it looks more like a giant leap forward.

Key production team members from High Voltage Productions Pty., the current controlling production company overseeing Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC, are slated to engage in talks this week with one of the world's leading production and entertainment companies said a source close to the project. The highly-publicised film project is a docudrama chronicling the career of late Aussie frontman, Bon Scott, of AC/DC who died tragically at age 33 in 1980 after only 6 years with the band.

Starring in the film is American singer/actor, Rob Liotti, who is also the credited screenwriter. Liotti is no stranger to things AC/DC as he has performed on stage as Bon Scott for many years. It has been reported that High Voltage Productions Pty. based in Charleston, South Carolina, USA may be in talks with Australian hardrockers, Airbourne, to make a special appearance with the band at an upcoming US tour date. A West Virginia newspaper, The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, profiled Bon Scott- The Legend of AC/DC star, Rob Liotti, in an article by writer Paul LaPann. The newspaper touted its former resident and discussed his early musical career while performing with rock band, High Voltage. Liotti was also a star athlete who was pursued for his skills in baseball and on the football field.

High Voltage Productions Pty. and Director J.R. Getches have announced that the first dramatic footage ever produced depicting late AC/DC frontman, Bon Scott, is making its way through post-production for release in the near future. The much anticipated teaser was shot in early 2013 and stars Rob Liotti who portrays Scott. Co-starring in the teaser is actor Dave Riggins. Director J.R. Getches says that, "we have now entered the 'proof of concept' stage where we show some direction and tone of the upcoming production..."

Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC has received worldwide attention since its initial new releases began to filter out in late 2012. In fact, AC/DC's own official website, www.acdc.com has reported on the film in its content. While no official endorsement has been made by the band, it has been reported that Albert Productions in Australia was contacted by High Voltage Productions Pty. in the USA to advise Malcolm Young (the band's leader) specifically of the intentions of filmmakers and pay their due respect.

Rob Liotti, the singer/actor who will portray Scott stated, " Naturally, we want the band's blessing on this film... But I took the time to contact Alberts and Malcolm personally to at least show them the respect of advising them of our intentions. They seem like a nice group of guys and have been a big influence on me musically. So, I am simply giving them their due... This project means a great deal to alot of people - including myself - so we want to do it right. That is why we have not jumped head-on into the first production deal thrown at us. I want to make sure that we all have the same vision and are not hazed over with 100% distraction of money, money, money. Artistic expression and doing the right thing matter here as well."

Bon Scott - The Legend of AC/DC has gained worldwide attention after its initial public announcement in August 2012. High Voltage Productions Pty. of Charleston, South Carolina has been approached by a number of prospective producers as of March 2013, but as of yet have not accepted any proposals according to HVP. It has been reported that HVP has held discussions and consultation with entertainment law attorney, Rhett Klok. Klok is a former associate attorney with Motley Rice Law Firm who settled highly publicized tobacco litigation amonst other high profile cases.

The film's star, Rob Liotti, who also has a screenwriting credit for the film stated that "we are absolutely seeking the right fit in an executive producer... Naturally we want to solidify a deal and there are some investors looking at the project as of right now (March 2013) but there is no desperation to jump into bed with the wrong girl so to speak."

The film' director, J.R. Getches stated that "right now our goal is 'proof of concept' for this project. We have a teaser trailer currently in post-production that some investors want to see - as well as the public. We want to show that Rob can portray Bon. We all know he can do it, but we want to convey that to the public and fanbase."
