It is refreshing to know that after browsing the Internet for a while, I found that a lot of Websites are saying ‘Keep It Simple’ which is exactly how I like to do things.

Surfing the Internet is simpler and more enjoyable just by blocking the dreaded ‘Pop Ups’, and making sure you have the browser settings correctly configured.

The recommended way to do this is by finding the correct button on the toolbar which will let you set your chosen options, another way is to use the ‘Search’ and then choose the right page with the information you need.

If you don’t like advertisements then stay away from them, after putting in a ‘Search’ it is quite easy to see which sites are advertisements and which are not. Remember that a lot of sites on the Internet will have small adverts on them, this is one way to help pay the cost of running a Website.

Many people have voiced disapproval about Websites that have adverts on them, but anyone who has their own Website knows how much time they take up. The problem for most Website owners is that this is not their main occupation, this means Outsourcing a lot of things to keep the site content fresh.

Outsourcing costs money, so the Website owner will allow a few adverts on their site to try to recoup some of this cost.

If I bookmark a Website that I find interesting and go back to visit in a few days I don’t want to see all the same content again, I want to see something new, something different.

So for me the adverts that are on many sites these days do not bother me like they used to, as long as there’s no ‘Pop Ups’ or instant ‘Videos’ to watch I’m happy as ‘Larry’.

By not revisiting sites that have annoyed you with excessive advertising you will be voting your disapproval of them, this will result in fewer visitors for these sites which hopefully will make them change their ways. A long shot maybe, but it’s a start.

The content on my Website changes every 3-4 days, content meaning a new posting and a new blog. I have kept to this time scale ever since my Website first appeared on the Internet, and with nothing  duplicated or spun.

Yes this takes time because all my content is original, but doing it this way I get the satisfaction that I practice what I preach.

Keeping a Website updated will show in the number of visitors you get, and will definitely improve your Google ranking.

Anyone who has a Website or Splash Page (site) on the Internet needs targeted visitors, to attract these visitors the site needs to be Search Engine Optimized (SEO).

A targeted visitor is one who is Interested in the content of a site, this type of visitor is the most Important visitor of all. A non-targeted visitor is not Interested in the content of a site, they will visit a site for different reasons but mostly for a small amount of money.

The four main ways of getting visitors to a site are as follows:-

1/ Viral and social.
Using Face-book,Twitter and the hundreds of other social sites will maximize a sites footprint on the Internet. A site can loose thousands of potential visitors if this is not done.  

2/ Pay for your visitors.
This way of getting visitors is only limited by the amount of money available to run a paid campaign. These campaigns are linked to the Search Engines (Advertising), and are therefore targeted visitors.
Do not use any other site for a pay campaign, as mostly they use non-targeted visitors.

3/ Get Referrals.
Referrals come in many guises, do not use any type of Traffic Exchange for referrals.

4/ Rank highly for SEO.
Set up properly SEO will help any site to get Indexed by the Search Engines for the content on the site, the site will then appear when searches are made for that content.

The Search Engine will present sites in the order its algorithm’s have deemed most important. The goal is to rank higher than these other sites and therefore get more visitors.

These are the four most Basic ways of getting visitors to a site, a lot of the time they will overlap each other and I strongly recommend further homework be done to get them right.

By using the Internet you will have come across SEO in some form or other, but is the SEO we apply to sites the right way that SEO should be done?, and could we still improve SEO further?.

SEO is all about targeting a site to the ‘Organic’ visitor. This is the visitor who has put in a search for a particular subject, and is then given the choice of sites to go to by the Search Engines.

I have read recently that you do not have to use SEO for ‘Paid Traffic’ or ‘Referrals’ to your site, this is something that I strongly disagree with and I’ll explain why?

Any of these ways of getting visitors becomes Viral, meaning that word of a site may start with just one inquiry, but will have a Viral effect and multiply and spread as time goes on.

If I hear about a site from a friend who was referred or clicked on an advertisement to a particular site, then I will put the name of the site into a Search Engine myself to look at it. Therefore SEO plays an important role.

Also, how many times have we all thought about a Website that we would like to visit, but we’ve forgotten the URL. I am always doing this and the only answer is to put the name of the site into a Search Engines and hope the one you want is there. Again SEO plays an important role.

Put in a search for SEO and you are inundated with adverts that claim you need this and that for good SEO, most of these sites charge you for the service and it is a service you do not need.

The only SEO you need is a free plug-in (see my post on Search Engines and Search Engines contd).

To take SEO further, then use another plug-in which again is freely available and free to use.

Do not be lulled into thinking you need anything else, you don’t, and how do I know this?

The answer is simple, I asked Google.

One of my sites was not ranking as well as I expected it to. I had posts/pages that ranked on the first page of Google for my niche which was great, but the site as a whole was not ranking as high as I expected. I had also changed a lot of content on my site.

This was the reason I asked Google to look at my site, and they did, they also e-mailed me a very nice letter explaining that my site was fine and had I looked at any 401′s my site may be getting.

Gulp!! No I hadn’t, so off I went and installed the 401 plug-in which works with the 301 plug-in and ‘Hey Presto’ solved a problem that Googles little bot picks up on.

It put a smile on my face that something so simple and yet overlooked by many (well by me anyway) could effect my sites ranking.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers when setting up SEO for a site, but I have learn’ t that you only need to keep it simple.

Prices are low for both the Domain Name and the Hosting depending how long an option (contract) you’ve taken, you can buy a one/three year contract for your Website hosting and Domain Name.
If you’re new to all this then I would suggest getting a one year option on both your Hosting and Domain Name, you are reminded by e-mail when it is time to renew your options.

If you have chosen to have a commercial Website then choose a Domain Name with the ending of .com for worldwide sales or your own country’s commercial ending e.g .co.UK for any Websites from the United Kingdom.

This will show any visitor to your Website that you are a respected commercial Website, and a lot of trust are associated with these endings.

You’re advised not to use any other type of Domain Name ending as this will have a harmful effect on your visitors and your sales. A lot of Websites that have different endings are various types of scams, which you must not associate your Website with.

It’s estimated that over $35 Billion dollars was spent on on-line shopping by Americans last year,and this figure continues to rise. In Britain over one pound in every ten is spent on shopping on the Internet, and again this figure is rising.

Confidence in Internet shopping continues to increase around the world,this is mainly due to the security measures that are in place to safeguard our private bank details.

With Encryption and the ‘Padlock‘ symbol activated, everyone is secure in the knowledge that any information is kept private. But is there more that we as a buyer can do to protect ourselves further when spending money on the Internet, and the answer is Yes there is.

The big Mall and High Street shops have kept up with the times and most Retailers can now be found on-line. Most major household brands register themselves on the Internet with the .com websites to show they are commercial.

Unfortunately this has piqued the interest of the wrong kind of people on the Internet as I’ll explain below.

In America, Walmart registered themselves with a .com and are now the only company on the Internet that can use Walmart.com as their address. In Britain,Tesco did the same and use Tesco.com as their address.

Having registered themselves with a .com ending, no-one else in the world can use that address. This means that anyone searching for Walmart or Tesco, only has to put .com after their name and they’re taken to the correct Web page.

Owing to the amount of money being spent on shopping, it wasn’t very long before the less honest people on the Internet put up False Websites with different endings than .com. These Websites are after your bank details and you should proceed with caution.

The best way of paying for anything on the Internet is by credit card, always check your card details and make sure you’re covered for any illegal use of that card. This must be done before spending any money or leaving your Credit Card details with a Website.

Summary.

Try to buy from .com companies and always use a credit card.
This way you will stay safer when parting with any money.

One of the first things with any new Website is who’s going to host it for you?, the host is where your Website will reside on the Internet. There are many hosting companies and all offer different types of hosting contract, some will include a Domain Name for you.

The sequence for starting a website is shown in it’s basic form below:-

1/ Buy your Domain Name.
2/ Buy your Hosting package.
3/ Design your Website.

Most hosting companies will offer you a Website Building System, if you have no idea how to code then going for a simple ‘click and it’s there’ (WYSIWYG) system is best.

WYSIWYG = What you see is what you get.

Tutorials on how Website building is accomplished will come with most hosting companies, and is normally set out in an easy to understand format.

The many hosting companies on the Internet will cover everything to set up your Website, so look around for the best deal that suits you.

Another aspect to look at with any hosting company, is how much ‘Bandwidth’ your allowed per month. I would recommend that you go for the cheapest offer to start with, you can always upgrade your hosting package if need be at a later date.

Bandwidth in simple terms means the amount of traffic that a hosting company allows you, which is normally on a month to month basis.

Look closely at any ‘FREE’ offers that you might come across, often there are strings attached to these that make them undesirable for many different reasons.

Putting in a Google search for Hosting Companies will give you plenty to choose from. This Website uses HostGator with a resellers package, but this is not required for the first timer. A cheaper package is available.

One of the most Important aspects of any hosting company is their support service, I have yet to find anyone who hasn’t needed them at one stage or another when building a Website.

I have found HostGator to be second to none in this aspect. I have always had a very good experience with their support team, and that includes answering some of my more simple questions.

They never talk down to you which I find is their greatest attribute. When I have felt slightly embarrassed with a problem that nine times out of ten I caused, they were always there to help me out and I always got a quick response to my question.

This is my personal choice for a hosting company but as I’ve said, do a Google search yourself and find what’s best for you.

Anyone who is involved with ‘How Do I Start A Website‘, will have come across Traffic Exchanges at some time or other.

Traffic Exchanges are where you surf other peoples Websites to receive credits,then you can show your Website and get visitors in return. You can also buy credits which will save you the time of surfing other Websites.

There are only two ways that the marketer should be using these exchanges in today’s marketplace.

1. If you have a new Website, using Traffic Exchanges enables you to get a lot of quick visitors to your Website.
The problem with this is that the visitors only show up as referral’s in Google Analytics, also these visitors are highly unlikely to be interested in the content of your Website.

You should be thinking along the line of ‘Any Publicity Is Good Publicity’.

There is a lot to be said about building a Down line or List using Traffic Exchanges, many successful marketer’s have started out this way.
All the above will only take about an hour of your time each day.

2. By using two Traffic Exchanges you can play one off against the other, build up your referral’s and then you can receive free credits and therefore free visitors to your Website.
You advertise one site on the other and vice-verso to get your referral’s.

Using Traffic Exchanges this way will require either a lot of your time or a fair amount of money.
Surfing on Traffic Exchanges can take up a lot of your time, and very quickly becomes monotonous due to the time you have to wait. Websites are shown for 10-30 seconds before you can move on to the next Website.

There are only a few Traffic Exchanges that are recommended for you to use. Unfortunately there are many Traffic Exchanges around that simply do not work very well, and you are advised to keep well clear of them.

Remember that most surfers on a Traffic Exchange are surfing to earn money, these surfers join up to ten Traffic Exchanges and are not interested in the content of Websites they surf,only the number a sites they can surf matter.

That said, it is possible to generate a small amount of business depending on what you have to offer.
Getting referral’s is a lot easier and you can build a good Down-line or list for future promotions.

The way to get results from Traffic Exchanges as with most types of advertising, is to have something on your Website that no-one else has. Normally this is done with a Splash Page and if done correctly will entice the surfer to have a look at your site or join your Down-line or list.   

I use the second option myself on my Websites, and find this works very well. You need to use other methods as well to generate more visitors to your Website, using just Traffic Exchanges is not enough for a successful Website.

Over time you will see your Back-Links increase which is good SEO for your Website, but make sure you do not overdo this.

All the major Search Engines take great value in who links with you and who you link with, therefore they analyze the links quite closely.

Remember:-
Having a new one/ten page Website with 1,000 links on it is going to raise the red flag with Search Engines.

Having an old one/ten page Website with 1,000 links on it makes the Search Engines happy.

Having low ranking sites linking to your Website is going to make the Search Engines unhappy.

Having just high-ranking sites linking to your Website is going to raise a red flag.

Having a good general mix of ranking sites linked to your Website is going to make the Search Engines happy.

As you can see from the few examples I have mentioned, it is very important that you have Websites of all ranking linked to your site.

Do not concentrate on just a single page/blog of your Website for links, try to spread them out over the entire site.

Because you are publishing something on the Internet, you are going to get comments from people about your content.

These comments fall into 2 categories, Genuine and Spam.
Installing a ‘Captcha‘ plug-in will sort out the genuine and spam comments for you, this will allow you to only put the genuine comments on your Website.

Any genuine comment is a ‘Link‘ and will be welcomed, if the comment (link) has a business attached to it make sure it is the type of business your site wants to  connect with.

Your visitors are going to see the comments (links) that show on your Website, so make sure that you do not publish any comments that you are not entirely happy with.

Some comments will be critical about your site but if they are constructive use them, no one wants to see comments praising your content all the time, so mix them up.

Remember the old saying that “Any publicity is good publicity” but if you have a doubt about a link then delete it.

Whenever I receive a link I will always go and check the Website out (or where the link is from), this enables me to check that my links are displayed correctly and the Website is OK.

The comments (links) must always be up to-date, nothing looks worse than seeing old comments posted on a Website. You should look every week at your comments and getting rid of the oldest.

You will find that with a little experience, all the things I have mentioned above will only take a couple of minutes of your time. This is good housekeeping for your Website, and done once a week will keep everything up to-date.

Having set up your Website you need to think about getting Back-links to it, and remember that not all Back-links are equal.

Ideally your Back-links should come from good ranking Websites, although this is not always possible if you use an automatic Pinging service.
Pinging is the way you let all the major search engines know when you have published something new, never just publish your post and believe you have finished.

As well as Pinging the major search engines, you should look at other Websites that are available for you to get indexed on.

The list of places you can Ping to is huge and therefore can take up a lot of your time, especially if you do this manually.

Most Website owners use some of the automatic Pinging Websites. This is a great time saver, but if you want to specifically appeal to visitors about a certain subject then the way you go about this is a little different.

The content of your post can appeal to a lot of other Websites and you should definitely use these sites to get the post out and about on the Internet.

This is important.
When manually registering your post only use :-
Websites finishing with a .com (World-Wide) or your local Government/Country Websites to link to.

These Websites tend to have the better ranking which is what you should be looking for, thousands of these Websites have forums and other pages that you can link to.

The last thing you need is to be linked with the wrong type of Website, if you are, it WILL effect your own ranking. So unless your sure about a Website, leave well alone.

Using an automatic Pinging service will use other types of Website, but these will have been checked by the Pinging service.

This Website uses about 10 other sites that I have linked to and the rest is automatically Pinged using 4 different Pinging services.

Google search the websites you think will be interested in your post, normally you will find that you have to register before you can publish anything with them.

Although, when you originally start out this can take a considerable amount of time, you will be well rewarded with visitors to your own site, so it’s worth the effort.

Don’t forget to bookmark these Websites and keep a record of all the user-names and passwords somewhere on your computer, you only have to do this once, the next time you publish a post everything will be so much quicker.

Check your Analytic stats and get rid of any Website that is not linking with you, there will always be some that for whatever reason will not link to you. Don’t be put off by this it just happens, go out and search again there is plenty of choice.

Outsourcing something for your Website enables you to have more time to concentrate on How To Start A Website for yourself.

You could outsource everything from the start although this is a very expensive way to get on-line, surprisingly it can also take longer to get everything organized and up and running this way. This is due to the fact that your website designer and you, will be in contact a lot of the time to sort out all the bits and pieces and agree the way forward for your site, and this takes time.

When I started building my own Website I decided to do everything myself, It was a great learning curve and because I was under no pressure to earn money straight away, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience it gave me.

I did not know a thing about publishing a Website, so I had to look for someone to show me how its all done.

My choice was Chris Farrell, to any of you who do not recognize the name, just put him into a Google Search and see what comes up or just click on the link on the right.

The ‘Content‘ you should use and how often you update that content, varies depending on which Website your looking at for the information.
I would recommend only Original content published every 4/5 days, and don’t forget to Ping.

If the content on your Website is about something you like or maybe a hobby you do etc., this will come across in your writing which will engage the reader more and so help you get more visitors.

Do not write about something you have no knowledge of or you have not researched properly, if you do then you WILL get found out. There is nothing worse than surfing your way to a Website and finding out it wasn’t worth the effort.

Remember that a visitor will bookmark your Website if they find it interesting enough, they will often share their experience with others by way of ‘Facebook‘ or Google ‘like‘ (and others), which will enable you to go viral and gain a lot more visits to your Website.

There is a lot of help out there on the Internet and most of it is free to use, just be sure that what you use is the right thing.

I often point out that you need to check the dates on Websites, this is very important if you want to learn how to create a website income for yourself.

The Internet moves at such a pace that a lot of information that was relevant last year, has been overtaken by new information this year.

Using old ideas to create your Website will leave it looking old fashioned and unattractive to the visitor, you must have a good looking Website that attracts visitors to it, and has fresh content published every few days on it.

This content can be published as a Page or as a Post on your Website, but without you doing various promotions for your Page/Post it will just sit there doing nothing.

You should ‘PING’ your content to the right sources some of which I have listed below for you:-

All these Websites are Free to use and include Feeds and Pod-casts if you use them. By ‘Pinging’ you are letting the right search engines etc know that you have new content to see and get indexed.

There are more Websites that you can use to Ping your Website, but remember that Pinging too much will have a detrimental effect and reverse the good work that you have done.

A reminder here is that everything you see on my Website is used by me, you can safely use anything on this Website knowing that it has been thoroughly researched and proven to work correctly.    

Content Must Not be copied or spun.

I have mentioned before that if you are found to have Copied or Spun content on your Website, you are in danger of having Google and others ban your Website.

There is normally no recourse to this which means starting all over again with a different domain name, this is both expensive in time and money so stay clear, don’t do it.

Most people with the aid of a spellchecker can write content for their Website, a minimum of 350 words and a maximum of 550 words should be used.

These numbers will keep the search engines happy.

If you find it challenging to write an article then help is at hand, there are quite a few Websites that specialize in writing good SEO friendly content for you. The cost of this service has gone down so much, that for about 10 written articles (which amounts to 2 1/2 months worth) the cost is around $10.

If you decide to outsource your article writing then you need to go and find the right Website, Google search this to find the site that will write you good original content.

Make sure the Articles you buy are not copied or spun, a good article Website will advertise their content as original and this is what you want to use.

Website owners are always on the lookout for ways to get more traffic (visitors) to their site, and there are many ways to do this.
Ideally you will have set up your Website to go viral, as this is a great way to attract more and more traffic.

Anyone who has a website set up with Face-book, Twitter etc, should be using the corresponding buttons on their site so visitors can press that they ‘like’ the site, or will ‘share’ the site with other people that might be interested.

By making your Website viral this way, you can get lots of visitors that are interested in what your Website has to offer.

There are many ways that a Website owner can get extra visitors to their site for free, one of these includes using a Traffic Exchange or two.

Traffic Exchanges can be used to ‘Bump’ the number of visitors but you should always be aware that these visitors will only show as referrals in your Google Analytics Account.

Remember with Google (and others) you are trying to get:-
Organic and Unique visits.

Used properly these exchanges will work well, but do not use them solely for trying to get your traffic.

Getting visitors to your Website will involve you trying various things to attract them, starting with the free ones which will take time and planning and then if need be, later on paying for some advertisements.

The ‘Look Out’ part of this blog is just a little warning for you not to waste any money on these so called $10 for 1000 likes etc.
There are a lot of these Websites around, they promise to get your buttons ‘Pressed’ for X amount of dollars, just do not go there!!!

The little Google Bot (and others) that roams around all day,will quickly spot a Website that is getting too many likes/shares for it to be normal, upon the Bot finding this you could get into trouble.

Also remember that most of these likes/shares that are offered for sale, come from Bogus Accounts. This makes them non viral and of no help to you.

Overall you will just be wasting money and I know that sometimes it’s not a lot, but over time it will be.

Rule 1. You mess with the Bot, Then the Bots going to slap you.

The speed with which we use the Internet is increasing all the time. New Fiber Optic connections from homes to exchanges and then to the ISP’s are giving us virtually no delays to either uploading or downloading.

This is great if you’re in the right catchment area where everything has been updated, but not so good if you’re not.

Unfortunately I am in an area that is not due for upgrading until 2013, and this makes a big difference as I use my computer on a daily basis for business.

I can tell just by surfing which Websites are not up to speed, they take longer to download of course, but I can tell the difference when the ISP’s crank up the output for the busy time for most users IE. Early Evening, against the quiet time (rest of the day).  

This has led me to thinking that the ISP’s only crank out the good speeds when they have the heaviest traffic, I do realize that in order to avoid the dreaded ‘CRASH’ power (speed) has to be increased with increased traffic.

The only problem I have is when they turn the power down, Is it possible not to turn the power down so much???

I know that many ISP’s have stretched the truth when they publish the speeds available to the general public, and taking this into consideration I wonder what the TRUE speeds are during the times they turn down the power??

I admit to using various bits of software to check these things out, and you have to be careful to use something that is not supplied by the ISP, and I can only say the results are dubious at best.

Still, I have only got to wait for another 1 year and 10 months so that’s all right then!!!!!!

You are surfing the Internet without a care in the world when all of a sudden the words ‘Re-Launch‘ appear in front of your eyes. If these words do not have the same effect on you as they have on me then read on.

There should be no words in the Internet Dictionary that say Re-Launch.

Re-Launch means they got it wrong in the first place. If they got it wrong the first time, chances are they will get it wrong the second time.

Re-Launch means that if the old site was charging a fee, then they now want to charge again and for something that was their fault in the first place.

OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE CALLED AN UP-DATE.

Re-Launch means that someone has just revamped an old site and cannot be bothered to design a new one. If someone can’t be bothered designing (or looking after) a new site, then it shows they will not be bothered looking after the revamped one.

As you can see I dislike anything to do with Re-Launches and I advise you to have nothing to do with them as well.

Up-Dates on the other hand are very useful and show the Website owner is looking after his/her visitors to the site.

All too often Websites are left with nothing new being added, this should ring warning bells and alert you to the fact that maybe the Website owner is not that interested in keeping their site up to-date.

Below and on the right are the two traffic exchanges I use for my Websites, this is a good way of getting FREE traffic. But you should not rely on these alone, promoting your Website is important if you wish to do well in the search engine rankings.

When talking about Family on the Internet there are two types of Family for us to consider.

The first Family is of course the one that you can do nothing about, the relatives !!

The second Family is your Internet Friends, and these you can choose to your hearts content.

Liz and I have just come back from visiting my parents who live in North Devon, and here lies a tale for any Website owner.

Mum and Dad both have laptops that are set up to what they want to see on the Internet, Dad likes his blogs and Mum her e-mails and shopping.

They log on every day now and use up their monthly allowance surfing at leisure, being Surfers (The Internet kind) they both gave me the reasons why they liked some Websites and not others, Dad likes his sites to be well thought out and informative, Mum likes her sites to look nice, and that’s it.

If the Website they are looking at doesn’t have these three categories,

1. The Website looks nice.
2. The Website is well thought out.
3. The Website is informative.

then both Mum and Dad will surf on until they find a Website with these three things.

So thank you Mum and Dad for reminding me I only need to keep it simple to attract the attention of visitors to my Websites.

By following these three simple steps, you can have a Website that will keep surfers on your site and looking at your pages/posts, and we all want that, don’t we.

The second Family you have is all your Internet connections i.e. Face-Book,Blogger and Twitter etc. these social links are great for going viral with your site and the more the merrier.

What you must be careful of is accumulating too  many business friends, these friends often come with their own agenda that ends up with you paying for something or other.

Learning who you can trust to help with your Internet business takes time and you should not rush into anything.

Think about what’s been said, if it doesn’t look nice, is not well thought out and informative then leave and find something that is.

The aim of most Website owners is to get on the first page of Google,Yahoo etc. This can be accomplished with just the basic SEO in place, you do not need anything else.

Once there the question is how to keep your Website from falling in the rankings, doing nothing will certainly see your Website plummet quite quickly.

To start out your Website doesn’t have to have hundreds of pages/posts, half a dozen is ample. What is more important is that you publish new content every few days, and build up the site this way.

I like to publish every four days, but this is not set in stone.
Publishing every week should be sufficient, keep your content fresh and make sure it is original and not copied or spun.

I often start reading something on a Website that looks interesting only to find that the grammar is wrong, (a sure sign of spinning) this puts me off the site and you can be sure the little Google bot will be put off too.

I will be the first to admit that my English spelling needs a helping hand every now and then, and for that I use a spellchecker (wife) but that is all I use.
Spun/Copied content will see your Website rapidly going downhill, and it will be difficult to stop the slide.

Make sure your content is relative to the subject of your site, and also correctly written for SEO. There is a way this must be done for your page/post to be indexed properly by the search engines.

This is all about linking everything up for those little bots to enjoy.
If your Website is about Purple Cardboard Boxes, write something that is about Purple Cardboard Boxes.
Do not write about Green Artificial Lawns !!!!!

Make sure you are getting good back-links for your page/post and you are ‘Pinging’ the correct services for your page/post, you should also be ‘Pinging’ your RSS feed.
You should ‘Ping’ only once when you publish and then again after three days, do not ‘Ping’ anymore than twice for a page/post as ‘Pinging’ more will have a detrimental effect.

If need be make yourself a little list, for example:
Write original content for page/post.
Make sure it is SEO friendly.
Get back-links for page/post
Ping the correct services with your page/post.

By doing these things correctly the ‘Traffic’ (visitors) are automatically taken care of, as long as you have followed these guides then you will get genuine interested visitors to your Website.

And Would Sir/Madam Like Fluff With That?

In days gone by you could surf away to your hearts content, with only the odd shout of ‘Would you like tea or coffee’ to be heard.
If you were interested in knowing how to create a website income, you would have probably surfed many sites.

Little did we all realize that things were going to change, and for a lot of surfers things did go down-hill pretty quickly. Originally we went from page to page and if something caught our eye, we would stop at the site and read all about whatever was on show.

If we were lucky there were pictures on the site to make the whole experience more enjoyable, and who doesn’t like to look at pictures every now and then?

Then the BOMB dropped, the people making these sites decided that we needed to hear what they had to say, yes I’m talking about the Videos that appear on so many sites today.

The videos I mean are not the instructional ones that we all need when learning how to create a website income, I mean all the other ones that are ‘selling’ something.

My biggest grind is not that these videos suddenly appeared but that they all have the same script (fluff).
Yes I know there is a way to sell things and the path must be trodden in a certain way, but please not all from the same script !

If you have ever viewed these sites (and most of us have), you very quickly learn that certain people should not be making them at all and should definitely not put themselves on show.
How many errs and ums must we all listen to, and frankly some are so bad that I turn them off to spare my sanity.

There is a place for videos and we all know where to go to enjoy them, and these can be funnier if they are badly made. In fact most of us love the amateur side of things but when it boils down to professional videos promoting something or other, I hate to say it but we need them to look and sound professional.

I am sure that there are many surfers now who have the sound turned down on their computers, and I expect many more simply move on quickly to another page so that they won’t be burdened with a video selling them something better than sliced bread!

Some of them you just have to see to believe, but please believe me when I say this novelty wears off very quickly, and you will find yourself questioning your mental state and wondering if you’ll ever use a keyboard again!!

This then brings me to my first question. Would sir/madam like fluff with that?, Well the answer is NO, I do not want to hear another amateur trying to tell me their site has what it takes, if only you would part with some of your hard earned money.

Try this instead, be original, be professional, be funny (if you are) but most of all get your own SCRIPT that has no fluff on it.

I am often surprised by the amount of E-Mails I get from so called Marketing Professionals, and its not about the various offers they have.

What is evidently clear, is that these people have spent a long time trying to earn an income from the Internet, and have failed to create a good website income for themselves.

When you start receiving E-Mails, you very quickly learn which ones are from genuine people and which are scams.

The genuine ones are normally from the people asking for some help and these can easily be identified, but they present a big problem.

The problem is that they have written something like this,

‘I have been a Marketing Professional (someone earning money from the Internet) now for 15 years etc,etc,etc.’

How do you tell them politely that what they have been doing in the last 15 (length of time varies) years is wrong, all the effort that they have put in is for very little, and it will continue this way until they can decide that enough is enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I applaud anyone who has stuck it out with any of the various schemes out there, but do you really think that earning a couple of hundred dollars a month for all your work is success, If you work full time on the Internet then there is a better way to earn yourself a good monthly wage, and learn how to create a website income that will last you for years to come.

Lets clear up a simple truth here, successful Marketing Professionals do not write E-Mails, they are the people who always remain in the background and never share what they know because if they did, people would be earning ‘THEIR’ money and they can’t have that, can they?

This is not being flippant, do you really think that someone who can make a 1,000 dollars a day is going to share it with you? Of course not and the person who thinks they will is being naive.

This brings me back to the problem of trying to gently tell people, that what they have been doing to try and create a website income for so long, is wrong.
It’s not nice when you are faced with this fact, as I have found out myself, this was in my early days when I wouldn’t listen to anyone because I knew best.

How wrong was I, earning an income from the Internet is like any other job, it has to be learned. Sure there are short-cuts but understanding what you are doing is the most important aspect of trying to create a website income, and when you learn something it becomes a lot more enjoyable.

So my advice to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation to a lot of my E-Mails is to get out.
Get out of what ever your doing and start again, yes this takes courage and you will probably think to yourself that you cannot do it, but let me say here and now that you can.

We all need a little help now and then, and it can be a great feeling to be part of something.

….  I first started out trying to create a website income.

As I went through this process I found that there are many little additions you can use for your site.

If I take a Plug-in as an example and I wanted something to produce my Site-Map which was friendly to the Google bot, I was presented with about 20 different versions of the same thing but which one should I choose?

Then If I wanted to cover all the things about setting up my Website, I would have literally ended up with hundreds of options. My brain would be going into overdrive trying to sort out which would have been the best for me and my site.

The answer is to Keep It Simple (kiss), I didn’t have to make things difficult or complicated for myself to get to page ONE of Google or Yahoo etc. (this is something that you can easily do yourself, see earlier posts).

Over time and with a lot of tweaking I can say that my Website now, has what I consider to be the best plug-ins for my site.
The road I took to make my Website a going concern is a long one, and by using this method I learned most things about Website development that are essential for a good Website to flourish.
But I did find there is an easier way to do all this, however I only found this out after I had spent a few months creating my Website.

There are of course many people who want Websites of their own but are not interested in the set up and maintenance, this presents some problems that you should be made aware of.
The main one being, that if you do not keep your Website up to-date then you will lose page rank and therefore find yourself slipping down in the Indexes.

This of course doesn’t matter if you only want a personal Website, but is very important if you wish to attract visitors to your site.

If your Website is only for personal use that you want to share with family and friends, then having a ready made Website can be the way to go, but make sure you look around as this can get very expensive, also worth noting here is that it can be very enjoyable creating your own Website, you will get a lot of personal satisfaction for a job well done.

I found the whole learning curve a great deal of fun, I was lucky enough to have time to learn and then implement the things I learn onto my Website. A word of warning here for anyone looking to earn money from their Website. It takes time.

What I did to set up my Website entailed a lot of trial and error and a few months of hard, but enjoyable work.

Then as I have said before, I found this Website that could have saved me a lot of work, saved me a lot of time and shown me what to do. I only found it after I had finished publishing my first Website, way to go mark!!

This short review is for USA and UK citizens parting with their money, although the advice  can effect anyone who parts with money on the Internet.

The Internet is a place where a lot of Websites are after your money, in one way or another. It is getting increasingly more difficult to know who to trust.

That said, what can we do to make sure that if we spend any money on the Internet, that we are spending it in the right place?

Two things come to mind straight away and both these things affect both USA and UK citizens who use the Internet, also for anyone else from any country who is going to spend some money on-line this is important.

First off you should never use anything but a .co.UK or a .com Website, by using these two types of Website you are giving yourself a guarantee that if there is a problem, it will be sorted out.

Both .co.uk and .com Websites that are in the USA or UK are recognized by their respective governments which means certain controls are placed on them to act within the law.

Your rights as a consumer are protected, this cannot be said for any other Website ending.

Example of endings include:- .biz
                                                    .info
                                                    .net
                                                    and others.

.co.uk and .com in Great Britain are covered by the law of the land and in the USA are covered by State Laws. This means to the consumer that you are protected.

That cannot be said of any other type of Website, If you are buying from a Website abroad be very careful, look at the small print before you part with any money!! (see below).

This brings us to the second thing of importance, which is never trust a foreign Website with your money!!. There are many foreign Websites that are trustworthy, but I am afraid that because of the total lack of any governing rules or regulations covering these Websites, you are asking for trouble and believe me if you use them sooner rather than later your going to find it.

These are the places where the fake Websites hide out so stay away.

There are a growing number of FALSE Websites around, these appear to be from a reputable business but are scams. These sites look exactly the same as the ones they are copying but the problem here is you will lose a lot of money, never get anything you have ordered and they disappear one day and are back up the next with a slightly different name.

I am hearing about these types of Websites more and more, as long as we have the Internet there are going to be people trying to steal your money, sad but true.

One of the big questions you should ask yourself when buying on the Internet is, What comeback have I got if something goes wrong?.

Well to answer that question for a USA or UK citizen is simple, you must use a .co.UK or a .com, anything else should be checked thoroughly and only when you are satisfied that the particular Website is safe, should you ever part with any money (although I do not recommend using other Websites with different endings).

Website security and the padlock symbol I will go over in a later post, also the way you should pay for anything you buy on the Internet.

Remember use .co.UK and .com Websites only and make sure their from the USA or UK.

By following this advice you greatly reduce the risk of being scammed by Websites.     Note:- These views are held by this Website and Author and are for guidance only.

When I started out I made the biggest mistake of all and that was trying to do everything myself, I’ll explain below:-

I wanted to start a website and make an income for myself, I knew that this was going to need my full-time attention.

I also knew that if I was not careful, I could end up spending a lot of money.
Making instant money was not possible, the sites that said it was where scamming people.

So my answer to all this was to go it alone and that was my biggest blunder, it takes a long time to set up a successful business on the Internet and I am talking about 3-4 months or longer.

Sure, you can have a Website up on the Internet within a day, but as anyone who has done this eventually finds out, your Website is going nowhere.

My hosting account is a Reseller which means I can sell Websites (pages) to anyone and set them up on the same day, but I will not do this for the reasons stated below. Unlike many other Websites who take your money, and then you find out it will cost you a lot more for the extras!!.

There are certain things that you need to do to start a Website to make it appealing to Google, Yahoo etc.

Including SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which has must be done correctly, it is not worth thinking about if you get this wrong.
You will need to advertise your Website, how do you go about this without running out of money very quickly?
Your content has must be spot on, so many Websites get this wrong and suffer because of it.

Should you write an article or two and if you do, who should you publish them with for greatest effect?
Do Traffic Exchanges work to promote a Website or do they have a harmful effect when they show up in Google Analytics as a referral visit?
Should you link your Face-book or Twitter(or more) accounts to your Website?

What social buttons should you use on your Website?
Should you be running Google Analytics for your site?
Do you need to blog? And if you do where are you going to go with it?
What is Page Rank and how does this effect your Website?
And what exactly are Back-links and how do you go about getting the right ones that will help your Website?, and at the same time making sure you leave out the Back-links that could harm your Website.

As you can see from above, having your own Website on the Internet involves many things that you as the owner should know. And I could mention many other things that you need to get right for your Website to prosper.

I was also unsure about what type of Home Business I wanted to get involved in, having never thought I would be in a position to undertake such a project.

I was competent in most things when using the Internet, searching for things, sending e-mails etc. but starting a business? Help!!
I think I was like most people when I thought about running a home business and that is, ‘Where Do I Start‘ ?

For me it was a case of looking at what was available on the Internet, and then hopefully making an informed decision, the whole process of trying to find something took me over two weeks of using ‘Google Search’.

I very quickly learnt that there are many different ways that you can try to earn an income from the Internet, but I also learned very quickly that a lot of things being offered on the Internet are not really tangible items, you are being sold emotionally something that you can’t physically hold in your hands.

This left me with only two options and they are the same for everyone who has ever started a business on the Internet,

1/ I could try selling an ‘Idea’ by using peoples emotions to buy into something.
                                                        or
2/ I could sell an actual ‘Item’ that people were after.

There is a major problem with the first option, and that is most of the schemes that can be sold by the old emotionally sales trick are scams.
I very quickly found out that most of these sales pages are offering something that will not make you much money, they are in the business to take your money.
I also spent time researching some of these schemes only to find that a very small percentage are actually workable.

Whilst I was researching there was also one thing that reared its ugly head again and again, and that is the Websites that were offering these schemes closed them down quite often and then revamped them under a different name.
Most of the information I got was from various review Websites, but even here you have to be careful that the review your reading is not from someone connected with the scheme or is not someone trying to promote their own scheme.

Again here I had choices to make, how do I know what are outright scams and how could I tell them from the real thing?

My answer was to join ‘imreportcard.com’ which is a very well respected site that details exactly the information I was after.
Their Website mission is – to catalog, review and discuss most things that are Internet based marketing systems etc.
Put them into a Google Search yourself and have a look, then if you think they have something to offer you you can become a member, it’s Free.
Let me reassure you that I do not earn anything from imreportcard.com, my review here is totally unbiased, There are other Websites that do the same thing as imreportcard.com that you can easily put in a search for, I personally have found imreportcard.com to be the best of them all.

Finding the right keywords for your site is easier if you have a Google account, you will need this account for your Analytics and Web-Master tools anyway so if you haven’t set your account up yet, now is the time.

The Google page you want is ‘Google Ad-words’, and once there the information you need to use is explained clearly.
Do not be afraid to experiment with different Keywords for your site, but make sure that whatever you choose closely relates to what your Website is all about.

The whole point of this exercise is to find out how many ‘Searches’ there are for your given Keywords in a month, this will then give you an idea of how popular your Website could be.

Remember ‘Searches’ are potential visitors to your site, the happy medium here is to get Keywords that bring you visitors with the least competition.

Also on this page, you can input your geological area that you want your Website targeted for, unless you have something or you want to concentrate locally I would recommend you go for the biggest catchment area, thereby appealing to more visitors.

Here it is worth pointing out that unless you want to pay, which is costly for Keywords that you might want to use for an advertisement, you are just looking up information, so do not take your query any further.

i.e.
Go to Google Ad-words,
Your domain is say ‘Letsrumbatothenumber.com,
Look up ‘Lets rumba to the number’ in keywords,
How many searches made for these keywords a month?,
Is the competition high, low or medium?
Once you have this information, leave the page.

It is rare that a Website domain name is vastly different to the keywords you should choose to use for that domain.

The whole point of this is trying to connect your Website with the correct keywords, so that when someone puts in a search for ‘Lets rumba to the number’, your Website is on the first page that comes up.

Finding keywords for your Website is meant to be done with the fewest keywords for the least competition, so taking ‘Lets rumba to the number’ we could try the keywords ‘Lets rumba’ and see what information Google give us, if the competition is too high then using ‘Lets rumba to the number’ might be better.

It is here that you should make sure that there are searches made for this phrase, not checking will leave you with a Website and no visitors.

You may think that when choosing your Domain Name and keywords that someone else has already thought of them, often this is true which is why it is so important to do your ‘Homework’ first, following my advice on my Website will leave you with the correct information to go forward with confidence.

Let me just end this review by saying that there are often times when you can pick up a great Domain Name just by searching for your Keywords, Lots of people in the early days of the Internet went for the very short names only to give up on them when they failed to make any money with them, If you find one of these short Domain Names snap it up their gold dust.

Always be on the lookout for rehashed schemes which pop up every now and then, take your time when looking around for new opportunities or idea’s on How To Start A Website.

Many schemes that ask for your money, only pay out to the first few that join them which includes the owner, when these schemes DRY UP like most of them do, the owner then RENEWS them as a New Idea or as a Follow Up because the first one made them money.

Do not be taken in by these lies, you will NEVER make any money joining any of these things.

How To Start A Website, with the Right Keywords.

Keywords = How your Website,Page or Blog, is IDENTIFIED.

If you have a Website that has not been optimized for certain Keywords then you will always have a problem with Search Engines and lack of Visitors.

Let me give you a simple explanation:-

Blank Piece of Paper = Going Nowhere and Filed Nowhere, No
                                       interest so lets bin it !!

Titled Piece of Paper = Filed correctly under heading, so it can be           
                                       looked up by anyone who is interested in
                                       the content.  

Keywords should be researched before you do anything about setting up your own Website, because without them you will be in the crawler lane watching everyone go past you.

Every day, Millions of people around the world put into the Search Engines the subject that they want the information for, then, after the Search Engines have done their job, you are presented with the relevant pages in the order that the Search Engines have indexed them.

Always remember that last sentence:-
