What's new in this update?
Gingerbread ROM Android 2.3.7 CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC1 by Joiloroi Update 28 changelog:

Updated kernel 2.6.32.9 CodeAurora
Fixed several typos in Huawei kernel sources.
Enabled KSM (Kernel SamePage Mapping) support.
Turned on setting for Flash, forgot to add it in previous rom.

Tips Upgrading ROM - Avoiding Error on Upgrading and Using Custom ROM. Using a custom ROM with your Android Smartphone have many positive impact to your phone. For me, after using Custom ROM, upgrading from eclair to froyo and after that froyo to gingerbread, I can feel many different in this Custom ROM.

The latest ROM in this blog is Update 26 Gingerbread ROM by joiloroi.

Some change that Android user want most like battery lifetime usage, performance speed, and compatibility with Android Applications and games. And many ROM or I can say that is the main reason to use Custom ROM. The developer of each ROM also keep their ROM to satisfy their users.

But there is a time that we got error while or after upgrade the ROM. Maybe you familiar with the word "Force Close" on your Android. There maybe because the ROM bug or you don't install the ROM in the right way. This post will give you the best way to install ROM, or I can say My best way :D

Backup All your important data (Applications, Contact, etc)

It's very important to do a backup before do anything. I always backup all my Applications and contact before doing ROM upgrade. For Applications backup I' using Huawei Backup. Another applications is Titanium Backup.

Download ROM that Compatible with your Phone!!!

Find ROM that compatible with your Android Smartphone :D

Wipe All Data Before Install ROM

That's why backing up applications is very important. You can also upgrade ROM without wiping data, but the safest way if you don't want to getting "Force Close" or system reboot.

What to wipe:
~ Wipe Data/Factory Reset
~ Wipe Cache Partition
~ Wipe Dalvik Cache (Advance Option in recovery Mode)
~ Wipe Battery Stats (Advance Option in recovery Mode)
~ Format /boot (Important: Only do this if you still have problem after upgrade ROM, do this and repeat all the upgrade step. You can find this in "mount and storage" option in recovery mode.)

Install the ROM and do a clean reboot after the ROM installed

Do not install anything after you successfully installed the ROM. Reboot your phone right after you get the desktop. If you having problem in accessing the desktop after the second reboot, that's mean something not right. You need to wipe data again and reboot. If it still a problem, do Format /boot and re-install ROM.

Do not Install Applications at once

With Huawei Backup or Titanium Backup, you can restore all your applications at once. Don't do that! Just install 2 or 3 applications and reboot after it.

The new Gingerbread ROM update from joiloroi release on April 16, 2012. When the first time installed it, you will see the different on boot logo. It use the default Huawei Logo on boot screen. It's also added the boot sound after the CyanogenMod animation screen.

Install ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7

ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7 is the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery that I try and work on my Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone. To find out more about step to step install ClockworkMod Recovery you can go to my previous post Install ClockworkMod Recovery for Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone.

In that post, I'm using CWM Recovery version 2.5.1.8. I also want to update that post that I have failed using a version 5 of ClockworkMod Recovery. At that post I was try to use ClockworkMod Recovery version 5.0.2.3 and failed to boot with that version. But now, I success to upgrade the CWM Recovery to version 5.0.2.7.

I still don't know the reason with that failed before. So if you having trouble on installing ClockworkMod Recovery version 5.x.x.x you can go back to the previous post Install ClockworkMod Recovery for Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone and using version 2.5.1.8 instead of version 5.

Let's take a look what I'm doing to upgrade CWM Recovery to version 5. Note that when I do this, I already have CWM Recovery version 2.5.1.8 installed and using gingerbread ROM from Update Gingerbread ROM Android 2.3.7 CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC0 Kang.

What I'm doing is exactly the same with the previous post Install ClockworkMod Recovery for Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone except for the file of course.

When you connect your phone to computer in boot mode, the computer will ask for driver. You can download the Android driver here.

I'm also using a different fastboot and different recovery image of course. You can download fastboot + ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7 here.

Using a custom ROM of course you will be facing some bugs. But there is always a new thing you'll found on every update. For you who have upgrade your Huawei U8100 ROM to Gingerbread, maybe have the same problem with me. The previous version have an issue with the wireless power. Some times the wireless cannot be power on after idle. Yup, in this version, that bug is fixed. I'm using it for a week and having no problem at all (except the FM Radio).

I'm using ROM Android 2.3.7 - CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC0 Kang, found on xda-developers forum thread by jailaroi. And I think this is the most updated ROM from that forum. Jailaroi also active in answering question from other member, so it can make sure the next update will be better.

The previous post about upgrading to gingerbread have explain how to step by step upgrading your ROM, but if you are new in this blog, you can read upgrade your Huawei U8100 ROM to Gingerbread with the ROM you have downloaded from here. It's have the same procedure.

Huawei U8120 Default USB Driver and PC Suite

After Upgrading your Phone to gingerbread ROM, you will see your phone model is change to Huawei U8120. That is of course makes you happy, but try to connect it with your computer. It will ask you for Huawei U8120 Driver too. And maybe you will try to find it on CD Drive that usually installed automatically, but there is only a removable drive that can not be access. When you try to access it with the option on the phone, you will only see files from your MicroSD card.

Well, that is my experience :D. Using the Android File Manager to find the driver on the phone storage, still no luck for me. The driver is needed to use with PC Suite or to connect using ADB shell like when you install ClockworkMod recovery to your phone.

Default Huawei U8100 USB Driver and PC Suite is very useful for you who lost the driver when upgrade ROM. This driver and PC Suite is from my Android Huawei U8100 Phone. I did backup before doing anything to my phone just in case I have a problem and can not access it with my phone.

This Huawei U8100 USB Driver and PC Suite is taken from the phone storage. When you plug the USB cable from your computer to your phone, you will find this driver and PC Suite in a new CD Drive on your computer.

This driver also used if we want to install ClockworkMod recovery to a computer that have install this driver before. It won't be necessary if your phone storage can be read and access from the computer. But it will be very important if your computer cannot access the phone storage and you have to install the driver from outside the phone.

MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.2 maybe the only free PC Suite that work with Huawei U8100 that have been upgraded. I have try several PC Suite like the famous 91 PC Suite, MOBILedit!, Default PC Suite for U8120, and none of it work until I use MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.2.

The main reason that I want to use PC Suite is because I want to be able to send SMS messages while I'm on PC. MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.2 of course have that ability, it's also can be use for file transfer without unmounting the SDCard, Import or Export contact, save sms messages, access calender, create event, note, etc.

It's also can have the snapshot of our phone in real time. The menu is available on "Extras". With MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.2 you can manage your phone easily.

To be able to connect your phone with MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.2, you need to install Huawei Android Handset USB Driver v1.1 first if you have upgrade your phone to gingerbread or froyo.

The fastest way to download videos from Youtube is using TubeMate. Before this post, I have write about other applications to download videos from Youtube. If you want the application from Android market you can use YouTube Cache or use FREEdi Youtube Downloader wich have a smaller size than TubeMate. TubeMate not available on Market so you must download APK file and install it manually on your phone. Follow this link to download TubeMate APK file.

TubeMate is the fastest YouTube downloader, because it use multiple connections to download video file just like download manager. Let's have a look to the interface:

Image above is the homepage of TubeMate. Tap the 'search icon' on the top right or bottom right to began searching your favorite video.

Tap the video you want to download. It will bring you to the video page.

If you can see, on the bottom left there is a down 'arrow icon'. You can tap it to immediately download the video. Or you can tap the video that will bring up a pop-up that will give you a choice to download or watch it online.

Choose 'download', and it will bring another pop-up.

Choose your favorite video size. The top 2 choices will be download it in Mp4 format, so you don't need any FLV player installed on your phone.

FREEdi YouTube Downloader v2.1.11 is another application to download video from Youtube on Android Phone. You can also read the previous post about Youtube Cache trick to download video from Youtube. You don't need any trick to download Youtube video using FREEdi, because this application is intended to it.

Like other Youtube downloader application, it's not available on Android market. But you can still download apk file and manually install it on your phone. So first, you need to download apk file here.

Let see the interface:

The image above is the home page of FREEdi Youtube downloader when you tap the menu button on your phone. Tap "search" and began to search your favorite video on Youtube.

Long press the video you want to download, and a choices will appear.

Choose "Download As Video" to download the video to your phone. And the video will began to be downloaded.

If you want to see all the download progress, just tap menu button on your phone, and choose "downloading".

Wait until it finish downloading, and your video will be ready on "MicroMacro-Youtube" folder on your MicroSD.

Want to Download videos from Youtube to your Android Phone? Yes, you can do that! There are many applications that have ability to download videos from Youtube. The most famous application is TubeMate Youtube Downloader. But don't expect it to be available on market. You have to download the apk file here and install it manually.

In this post, we don't use TubeMate Youtube Downloader. We use Youtube Cache for download! Youtube Cache is an application not to download but to make Youtube videos can be play offline. But, with a little trick we can save the offline video to our phone and play it with our favorite video player (even without flv player).

First, you need to install Youtube Cache to your phone. And if you lucky, you can find it on market or just download the apk file here and install it manually.

Second, open Youtube Cache and search the video you would like to download. tap "cache" and wait until it finish downloading. You can choose "run in background" if you want to do anything else or search another video and watch it. See this image below:

If you want to see the download progress, simply tap "video" besides "search" tab. In this tab, you can pause the download progress, playing the downloaded video or delete the video.

And there also "setting" tab to determine the quality of the video you will download (I'm using "medium"). All downloaded video can be played offline, so make sure it's "done" or compare the progress with the video size (sometimes it's still says "pause" while the download already "done", so just compare the size).

Next step is to save the downloaded video, so you can play it with your favorite video player permanently. All the downloaded videos are saved in "youtubecache" folder in your MicroSD. The trick is to copy the video to your video folder and rename the file to "something.mp4" (That's what I'm doing, haven't try another extension). And you are done! Now your video player can play it. Don't forget to delete the video that you have copy from Youtube Cache "video" tab by "long press" the video and choose delete.

Use Mp3 as Ringtone on Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone

This is my trick to use MP3 as a ringtone on my Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone. When first time I'm using Android Smartphone, I think there is no way to use Mp3 as a ringtone because there is no choice in Mp3 file to use it neither in Sound setting to browse file as ringtone.

Maybe there is more easy way to do this, but like I say this is my trick and didn't use a special applications to do this. All you need is installing Winamp on your android smartphone. You can find Winamp on market or download apk file and manually install it here.

After installing Winamp, play your Mp3 you want to set as ringtone.

In this example I use the song from "Simple Plan - Shut Up" as my ringtone. Just play it with winamp and click menu on your phone, then choose "Set as ringtone" that's all.

Google Apps (Gapps Signed) For Android are applications by Google for Android. There are many applications that very important from Google apps. All of you surely know "Market", this is one of Google Applications and much more applications.

There are several ROM that not included with Google Apps. So, before you upgrade your Android ROM, make sure it's included with Google Apps. If it's not, you can manually install Google Apps on your phone by download Google Apps or also called "gapps signed".

The previous post we have know how to upgrade Android Huawei U8100 to Gingerbread and to Froyo. You also have the link for many ROM that suitable with Android Huawei U8100. So, if you found no Market after flashing your phone, you need to install gapps signed.

To install gapps signed, there is no different with upgrade ROM except you don't need to wipe the data. For example, Let's start to install Google Apps on Huawei U8100 with Gingerbread ROM CyanogenMod 7.

What you need to install Google Apps?

Make sure your Android Smartphone using ClockworkMod or Amon_ra recovery (How to install ClockworkMod Recovery)

How to Install Google Apps (Gapps Signed) For Android?
1. Make sure your MicroSD use FAT32 as file system, or format it if it's not.
2. Copy gapps signed file you have downloaded before to MicroSD.
3. Turn off your phone and enter the recovery mode by pressing "Call" + "Volume Up" and Power On your phone while keep pressing the button.

4. Release the button when entering the recovery mode. Below is the ClockworkMod recovery looks like.

5. Now choose "install zip from sdcard" and navigate to "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" (gapps signed file)
6. Wait untill the flashing completed.
8. Choose "reboot system now" to reboot your phone to a new ROM.

9. Done. Now you can follow the on-screen instruction to sign-in to ypur Google Account.

Upgrade Android Huawei U8100 ROM to Gingerbread ROM

Android Huawei U8100 default ROM is Eclair. The previous post have explain how to upgrade Android Huawei U8100 Eclair to Froyo. If you have done that, you will have no trouble to upgrade Android Huawei U8100 to Gingerbread. There is no different on doing this, except the ROM file that we use to upgrade.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the later version of Android OS 2.2 Froyo. Gingerbread make many improvements from Froyo, such as refined the user interface, improved the soft keyboard and copy/paste features, improved gaming performance, added SIP support (VoIP calls), and added support for Near Field Communication, etc.

You can find Huawei U8100 Gingerbread ROM from here. For this example I will use Android 2.3.7 - Cyanogen Mod 7.2.0 RC0 - update 20 by joilaroi. You can visit the forum here or download the ROM here. Let's start!!!

First download ROM file from the link above, and make sure you have change recovery mode to ClockworkMod recovery.

1. Make sure your MicroSD use FAT32 as file system, or format it if it's not.
2. Copy the ROM file you have downloaded before to MicroSD.
3. Turn off your phone and enter the recovery mode by pressing "Call" + "Volume Up" and Power On your phone while keep pressing the button.

4. Release the button when entering the recovery mode. Below is the ClockworkMod recovery looks like.

5. Now choose "install zip from sdcard" and navigate to "cm-7.2.0-RC0-u8120-KANG-signed_update20a.zip" (ROM file)

Full Reset Android Huawei U8100 to Default Factory ROM

Full Reset Android Huawei U8100 to Default Factory ROM it's mean to reset all the changing we have made to our Android Smartphone to the default factory. It's also very useful if you have an error when upgrading your Huawei U8100 Android OS ROM from Eclair to Froyo or Gingerbread. 7PNSKK4TXEAY

I found this tutorial when I have problem after Upgrading Eclair to Froyo using CyanogenMod 6. It takes too long when boot, and stuck in Cyanogen boot image for several times. So I decide to reset it back to the factory default and using back Eclair than Froyo.

If you have any problem or think that the factory default is better, you can follow this instruction to Full reset Android U8100 back to the default ROM.

Requirements :

Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone :D
Full Charge of Battery
MicroSD/Memory Card
StockROM for Huawei U8100
Card Reader or anything to copy the StockROM to MicroSD

You can download StockROM for Huawei U8100 here (choose your nearest location) or here (USA StockROM from filefactory). Okay, you have all you need. Let's start!!

1. Make sure your MicroSD using FAT32 file system, if not, you have to format it with FAT32 filesystem.
2. Make a new folder on your MicroSD, rename that folder to 'dload' (without quote).
3. Extract the StockROM from the previous download. Find UPDATE.APP and copy it onto 'dload' folder on your MicroSD.

4. Turn Off you phone. Place the MicroSD to your phone (if it's not already there)
5. Flash the new ROM by pressing "End Call" + "Volume Up" and Power On your phone.

6. Don't release the button until the progress bar (Updating) shows up.
7. Wait until it's done. After updating your phone will reboot automatically to your default Huawei U8100 Eclair.
8. done!!!

Upgrade Android Huawei U8100 Eclair to Froyo

Huawei Aviator U8100 comes with Android OS v2.1 (Eclair), but you can upgrade it to Android OS v2.2 (Froyo). You can upgrade Android OS by upgrading the ROM, and my favorite place to learn that is at [ROM] All Huawei U8100/U8110/U8120 ROM-s in one place xda-developers Forum.

Before you go for upgrading your Android, make sure you have a good reason do that. Because if you did something wrong, your Android Smartphone might be useless anymore. Did you have a good reason???

Okey, let's began to upgrade our Android Smartphone OS from Eclair to Froyo. First thing we have to do is make sure you meet all the requirements to upgrade your Android OS. The requirements are :

1. Huawei Aviator U8100 Android Smartphone
2. Memory Card / MicroSD Card
3. ClockworkMod Recovery or AmonRa Recovery
4. ROM File
5. Full Charge of Battery

Huawei Aviator U8100 recovery mode didn't support for upgrade OS from zip file, there for we need to install new recovery mode. I have use both ClockworkMod Recovery and AmonRa Recovery, and I'd prefer ClockworkMod Recovery. So please go to Install ClockworkMod Recovery for Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone for step by step instructions.

After installing new rocovery mode, the next thing is to download the ROM you want to use. In this tutorial I'll use [ROM][U81XX] Cyanogen mod 6.2.0 Beta 1. The ROM is in zip file.

Now you have your U8100 with ClockworkMod Recovery installed and have Cyanogen mod 6.2.0 Beta 1 ROM file. It's time to flash your Android Smartphone.

1. Format your MicroSD using FAT32 File system, or if it's already FAT32 just place the downloaded .zip ROM file to your MicroSD card.

2. Turn off your phone and enter the recovery mode by pressing Call + Volume Up and Power On your phone while keep pressing the button.

3. Release the button when entering the recovery mode. Below is the ClockworkMod recovery looks like.

4. Now choose "install zip from sdcard" and navigate to "CM6-Beta-1.zip" (ROM file)
5. Wait untill the flashing finish, then choose "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition"
6. Go to "advanced" and choose "wipe dalvik cache"
Note : You have to wipe all the data if you are upgrading the OS, but if you just change the ROM and not upgrading it, you can leave it all without wiping it. My recomendation is to wipe all the data even if you are not upgrading it ^_^.
7. Choose "reboot system now" to reboot your phone to a new OS.

8. That's it, Now you have your Huawei Aviator U8100 Android Smartphone with Android OS v2.2 (Froyo)

Install ClockworkMod Recovery for Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone

ClockworkMod Recovery is ROM manager for Android Smartphone device. The default Huawei U8100 Android Recovery Mode just have 4 options and none of that option can be use for upgrading the ROM.

ClockworkMod ROM Manager is available on the market, but it's not compatible with Huawei U8100. Don't worry there is another way to install it on your Android. We can use fastboot to install recovery image to your phone. Okey, I'll explain the step by step tutorial how to install ClockworkMod recovery into Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone. Make sure you have all the requirements below.

1. ClockworkMod Recovery Image
2. PC with U8100 USB driver installed
3. Full battery charge

From my experience, the best version of ClockworkMod recovery that work with Huawei U8100 is version 2.5.1.8. I have use v5 but no luck to upgrade the ROM. Maybe there is any modified version for it sooner. Okay, let's try. I assume you have done nothing to your Huawei U8100 Smartphone.

1. Turn off your your phone and connect it to your PC with USB Cable. Wait until the driver installed successfully.
2. Press "End Call" + "Volume Down" and power on you phone while keep pressing "End Call" + "Volume Down" key.

3. Release it when the screen show the Huawei logo.

4. Now, extract ClockworkMod recovery image to any folder, navigate to that folder and execute (double click) "install-recovery-windows"

5. Command prompt window will appear and will disappear when it's done flashing. Now, disconnect your phone from PC and remove the battery for about 10 seconds.
6. Place the battery back and enter the recovery mode by pressing "Call" + "Volume Up" and Power On your phone.

7. Release the key when the screen become like this.

8. Done!!!

Huawei Aviator U8100 - The Cheapest Android Smartphone

Huawei Aviator U8100 is an Android SmartPhone with the lowest price. I buy it online for just Rp550,000 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) or about $61 USD. I don't know anything about this phone before, I bought it from one community site in Indonesia, Kaskus.

Actually I'm interested with the price, how an Android Smartphone have a very low price. So I ordered Huawei U8100 from Kaskus FJB.

Huawei Aviator U8100 come with Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair). This is my first Android phone so, I can't compare it with another Android device. Like other Android Smartphone, it has Wi-Fi enabled and also can be use to become an Wireless Access Point device with Wireless Tether.

The main reason of buying an Android Smartphone is to be able to access the internet anywhere at anytime. For that reasons, Huawei Aviator U8100 provide with GPRS and EDGE (2G Network), HSDPA (3G Network), WLAN and Bluetooth device.
