Rat & Ratchet, 20 Continuous Years in the Good Beer Guide

This year marks a special anniversary for the Rat & Ratchet, one of Huddersfield’s most endearing real ale pubs. It is one of only a few local pubs to have featured continuously in every edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the last 20 years. This is an outstanding tribute to the succession of owners and landlords who have consistently served Good Beer Guide standard real ale since the late 1980’s.

White Cross & Shepherd’s Boy Beer Festivals

On Thursday, it is the start of the Annual Beer Festival at White Cross, Bradley, Huddersfield, HD2 1XD (map). Last year was a sell out, and I am sure that a varied range of excellent beer will be on offer this year. The opening hours are:

Thu 11th Feb, 6pm-11pm
Fri 12th Feb, 6pm-11pm
Sat 13th Feb, 11:45am-11pm

Just up the road in Dewsbury, there is also a Beer Festival at the Shepherd’s Boy, Huddersfield Road, Dewsbury. It runs from Wed 10^th – Sun 14^th Feb, and promises a selection of Winter, Scottish & Local ales.

Why not pop along for a pint or two?

Please note that the 202 & 203 bus service (operated by Arriva) runs between the two pubs.

The Autumn Pub of the Season Presentation will take place at the Commercial, Slaithwaite, HD7 5AN (map) at 8pm on Mon 14th December.

This formerly keg pub reopened earlier this year and now features 8 real ales & a real cider. The Commercial has been tastefully refurbished, with modern decor complementing the original features.

Marsh House Reopens

The Marsh House, Marsh (map) has reopened today. The internal layout is unchanged, but they now have 6 handpumps currently serving 5 beers, from Ossett, Cottage, Copper Dragon & George Wright breweries. Apparently the pub is free from tie, so expect a changing range of beers to be on offer.

Two Local Beer Festivals

Colne Valley Lions will be holding their annual Slaithwaite Moonraker Beer Festival at Slaithwaite Conservative Club, HD7 5HF (map). The festival starts on Thu 12^th Nov and runs until Sat 14^th Nov.

The New Charnwood at Heckmondwike, WF16 0EH (map) will be holding their first beer festival, between Fri 13^th Nov and Sun 15^th Nov.

Mallinson’s Brewery Trip on Monday 9th November
