Hello all who might be reading this. I have been on a quest for 3 years now since becoming manager of the Bykenhulle House B&B to optimize and make our website a viable competitor for Hudson Valley bed and breakfast keyword

So, you ask why is she blogging about this....because I have found that the internet and I have a love hate relationship. I love to hate it, ha ha. Once you think you are equal or at least at a point of understanding, your blown out of the water by something new. I will not give up because I do love it. So the point of this blog is that any one who is a small business owner I have just found a really cool website called hub spot, if you are just starting out as I had three years ago use this site it has everything all in one place!! It is super user friendly and great analytics as well!!

Hudson Valley Wedding Season

As May 1st approaches so does the wedding season in the beautiful Hudson valley. 2010 is a popular year filled with great potential. At the Bykenhulle House we have been working hard to plant, mow, paint, dust and simply be ready for a great season. If your wedding is approaching with in the next two months now is a great time to get your marriage license, go over your day of schedule and menus, plan your ceremony program, and remember have fun (bridal showers, baccalaureate party etc.).

Summers Dwindling

So as the Dutchess County Fair has approached I am realizing that summer is coming to an end yet again.It feels as though it barely begun with all of the bad weather in June and we were busy with events in July and now we are here, the end of August. The bed and breakfast is doing great and I can wait to get in to the fall season. Fall around here is great with the air cooling off, the bright vibrant colors of the trees starting to emerge and the bustle of tourist and friends always around. I hope to be serving many great apple, peach and pumpkin dishes, with warm oatmeal and spice spiked foods including apple cider.

The Blinking Clock...

If any one is interested in becoming an innkeeper or if you wonder why things in a b&b aren't always perfect this entry will hopefully shed some light of understanding for you. I read a review of a neighboring inn on trip advisor and found that one of the comments involved the guest making a remark about many things unkempt but that the clock was not set. Now at first I felt bed because there stay was generally bad but then I started to think about the blinking alarm clock and the attention to detail that it shows. So, as I was in my guest rooms later, I realized that after the power had gone out( a few days prior) that my clocks which were plugged into the wall and that they were blinking. As I re-set them in all five rooms I realized what a pet-peeve this was turning into. Now this again seems trivial but any one who has been in the north east this past June knows that we have had more rain than ever causing more power outages than normal. Do you know what its like to have to sit there and re-set five clocks every other day. At first its not so bad but then if you hit the hour button one to many times and you've re-set the alarm clock three times because you are tired from all of the baking, laundry, bed making, itinerary planning etc. So, as not to bore you with the blinking clock, I just wanted to share what I found comical as I went about my day. It reminds me of skit that Steve martin wrote involving the man who was sentenced to purgatory to pull Cotton out of the aspirin bottle, frustrating and futile but necessary.

Memorial Day Getaways

Memorial Day is the official kick off of the warm weather travel season so I thought it would be great to talk about the ultimate getaway. All though everyone is different I think that the main goal is to finally be outside having fun and relaxing. This year there are a lot of activities planed over the memorial day weekend. You can find most of them at www.dutchesstourism.com or dutchess400.com for the quadricentennial celebrations (400th anniversary of the first sailing up the Hudson river). Other great activities for outdoor fun are the river boat tours or riding a segway up the river front. I hope that everyone has a great Memorial Day. Hi, I have created this blog to catalog my adventures of the Hudson Valley and to help those who are planning a trip to New York. The Hudson Valley area spans from the bottom of westchester county in the south to Albany in the North. As a native you don't realize whats right in front of you, for those who live here and those who don't that's everything from amazing local food, historical sites, gardens & nature preserves, winery's, antique stores, art galleries, museums, the Appalachian trail and many more attractions.
