The HEAD Foundation (THF) is pleased to announce its 2016 Request for Proposals (RFP) for social and education projects. Through this RFP, THF is seeking to provide funding for projects that contribute to knowledge dissemination and societal development, thus allowing the Foundation to fulfil its mission of contributing to Human Capital & Education for Asian Development. Grant Program 2017 - SCI:Grants for Wildlife Conservation and Research

Large grants are awarded to projects with strong potential to contribute to the sustainable management of natural resources or the advancement of constructive wildlife research. Conservation projects are evaluated for their relationship to sustainable use of wildlife, and their ability to work toward maintaining healthy ecosystems and providing quality habitat for all wildlife species.

SCI Foundation realizes that as costs associated with conservation efforts escalate, no organization can solely conserve wildlife. For this reason, SCI Foundation also seeks opportunities to forge partnerships with organizations. Coalitions are quickly becoming the most desirable mode by which significant projects can be implemented. SCI Foundation encourages applicants to form multiple partnerships and not rely solely on funding from SCI Foundation.

Call For Proposal 2016 - CFC: Support for Commodity Development Activities

The CFC (an intergovernmental financial institution) provides financing to organizations and enterprises engaged in commodity value chains in its member countries. Through a range of financial instruments, the CFC seeks to support business activities in the field of commodity development, including agriculture, minerals and metals in Developing Countries. The intervention should, besides giving a sound financial return, also provide for a measurable social and environmental return.

OBJECTIVES OF CFC'S PROJECT FINANCING

The CFC supported activities promote the development of the commodity sector in CFC member countries and contribute to sustainable development in the following aspects:

1. Social: Create employment (particularly for youth and women), provide sustained increase in household incomes, reduce poverty, and enhance food security.

2. Economic: Enhance production and productivity, achieve higher local value addition; improve competitiveness of producers, producer organisations and small and medium sized industries, support the financial sector development.
3. Environmental: Enhance production taking into account the environment and its long term possibilities for the same, or increased use of productive resources while maintaining or reducing the impact on the environment.

The CFC supports implementation of activities along the value chain that:

· are innovative, scalable and replicable,

· are financially sustainable,

· have a potential measurable positive socio-economic and environmental impact on the stakeholders in commodity value chains as compared to the prevailing baseline situation,

· develop stronger connections with existing markets or create new markets along the value chain,

· increase financial or other services available for commodity producers and commodity based businesses,

· enhance knowledge generation and information dissemination, and - build effective and cost efficient collaboration between producers, industry, governments, civil society organisations and other stakeholders for commodity based development.

ELIGIBLE ENTITIES AND COFINANCING REQUIREMENTS

Eligible to apply under this Call for Proposals are all legal public and private entities that:

operate in commodity value chains in CFC member countries or provide financial services to micro, small and medium sized businesses operating in these value chains,
have a proven relevant track record of sound commercial operations in the proposed activities over a period of at least 3 years, which can be documented by means of (audited) financial statements, and
share CFC’s values, including internationally recognized principles concerning human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption as reflected in the United Nations Global Compact.

The amount of finance requested from CFC should not exceed 50% of the total amount required to execute the project. The balancing amount of co-financing is to be provided by the applicant and/or by other co-financiers. Such co-financing should be relative to the new funding requirement for the (investment) project. Sunk cost are not considered a financial contribution. A thorough assessment of the co-financing available will form part of CFC’s final due diligence verification.

Grant Program 2016/2017 - TOYOTA Foundation

The grant program focuses on deepening mutual understanding and knowledge-sharing among people on the ground in East and Southeast Asia who are finding solutions to shared issues. Through promoting direct interaction among key players, the grant program aims to survey and analyze situations in target countries, obtain new perspectives, and expand the potential of future generations.

With multinational teams comprised of participants from diverse backgrounds, projects can avoid conventional linear relationships, such as “supporter and supported” or “instructor and trainee,” and instead form cooperative and creative alliances that consider, act on, and construct solutions to shared issues. The grant program anticipates that these partnerships, which extend beyond such factors as nationality, age, and organizational affiliation, will produce significant social change through fostering a process of mutual learning.

Project Period:

One year (Nov 2016 – Oct 2017) or Two years (Nov 2016 – Oct 2018)

Expected Output:

Projects are required to;

1) Identify issues and conduct a review by surveying and analyzing the situation in target countries;

2) Carry out activities aimed at addressing issues;

3) Produce and disseminate tangible output, such as policy proposals, guidelines, photo and video works, and reports; and

4) Submit the “Record of Change.”

Grant Amount (maximum per project):

a) One-year project: JPY 5,000,000 (approx. USD 44,500);

OPCFHK envisions a world where Asian wildlife remains biologically diverse under the stewardship of humans, corporations and governments. We are committed to advocating, facilitating and participating in effective conservation efforts of Asian wildlife, with an emphasis on Chinese white dolphins and giant pandas, as well as their habitats. This will be achieved through partnerships, fundraising, research and education.

With limited available funds and given the urgency of conservation efforts, it is important that research studies are designed to be effective for conservation. Therefore, we seek proposals with measurable conservation outcomes.

The Foundation solicits projects on threatened animal species in Asia, particularly on the Foundation’s thematic species; giant pandas and Chinese white dolphins. The outcomes of the studies must contribute to successful conservation and could entail the development of conservation action plans and/or community education programmes. All proposals must include relevant, specific conservation targets and measurable milestones and evaluation of the programme’s effectiveness with specific and quantifiable indicators. Projects should focus on one of the areas below:

A. Conservation Research and Management

B. Community Education and Capacity Building

Regular projects last from 1 to 2 years should focus on either one nature of the above. For multiple-year projects last for 3 to 5 years, both natures can be submitted but in two separate proposals. Applicants shall also explain how resources and the project works are synergised and complementing each other to achieve the overall goal.

Total Funding:

Majority of successful applications in 2015/16 were one-year projects averaged HK$ 184,000/year (US$23,000). The funding provided is to cover the relevant project expenses during the approved project period, as stated in the application. Multiple-year proposals last from 3 to a maximum of 5 years and limited to HK$ 1 million per year will be considered separately based on project conservation impact.

Grant Program 2016 - SOS: Marine Conservation Photography Grant

The Save Our Seas Foundation believes that photography is a powerful tool for marine conservation. We invite emerging conservation and wildlife photographers who have a passion for marine subjects to apply for our 2016 grant. This is a unique opportunity for photographers to go on assignment, earn an income and gain experience under the guidance of National Geographic photographer Thomas Peschak.

CRITERIA:

Applicants should be serious emerging photographers who may have become successful in their local region but have not been widely published in major magazines and have not earned numerous high-profile international awards. We prefer applicants to be under the age of 30, but older applicants who can still be regarded as ‘emerging’ may also be considered. Photographers with underwater photography skills in their repertoire are especially encouraged to apply.

PRIZE:

Two winners will be selected for each grant. Each winner will receive a US$2,000 cash prize and will be given a paid three-week photographic assignment to document an SOSF-supported marine research or conservation project. The SOSF has funded more than 160 projects in more than 40 countries and the winning photographers will be assigned to tell one of these stories. Thomas P. Peschak, National Geographic Magazine photographer and director of conservation for the Save Our Seas Foundation, Kathy Moran, senior editor (natural history) of National Geographic Magazine and David Griffin, former director of photography of National Geographic Magazine, will mentor photographers throughout the process. This assignment period will be a learning and refining experience as well as an opportunity to earn income through photography. Both winners will be given the chance to showcase their work at an international conference or an exhibition. Each winner’s story will also be published as a photo essay in the Save Our Seas Foundation’s magazine.

The World Bank’s Global Program on Forced Displacement (GPFD) is calling for proposals for innovative and transformational ideas that can improve the development response to forced displacement. Displacement tends to be protracted, and development programs in origin, host, transit, and destination countries are urgently needed to complement humanitarian assistance.

Innovative ideas may include analytical work, use of new technologies, or development projects. Many such ideas are often at the inception stage, requiring further work to be sufficiently detailed and specific for donors or investors to support them. GPFD will provide up to $40,000 for selected teams to develop their idea into a full concept note which would meet World Bank Group standards.

The Global Program on Forced Displacement (GPFD), housed in the World Bank’s Fragility, Conflict and Violence Group, was established in 2009 with support from Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland to enhance the global development response to forced displacement through economically and socially sustainable solutions. GPFD focuses on development responses to situations of crisis, protracted displacement and return, through operational support, partnerships, analytical work, and knowledge dissemination.

The program supports efforts to bring together scholars whose knowledge, theoretical insight, and methodological expertise can be assembled in ways that build on and reach beyond familiar modes of thinking concerning problems in education research, specifically those related to the area of teaching and learning. Through the program, the foundation aims to encourage the research community to advance new and rigorous research in this sub field and to ultimately increase collaboration within the educational research community.

Conferences should include a broad set of perspectives on topics or problems in education as they relate to the profession and practice of teaching or how students learn in formal and informal spaces. The foundation is particularly interested in proposals that seek to bridge disciplines, subtopics, or contexts that address how and what people learn, including fields related to teaching and learning. For example, scholars of English education might seek to engage in conversations with science, social studies, mathematics, arts, or additional discipline specific education researchers in an effort to foster greater cross-fertilization within the field. Likewise, scholars who explore themes of culturally relevant or culturally sustaining pedagogy might seek to collaborate with scholars in content-specific fields in ways that support the development of research in both areas.

Eligibility:

§ Principal Investigators (PIs) and Co-PIs applying for a conference grant must have an earned doctorate in an academic discipline or professional field, or appropriate experience in an education research-related profession.

§ The PI must be affiliated with a college, university, school district, non-profit research facility, or non-profit cultural institution that is willing to serve as the fiscal agent if the grant is awarded. The Spencer Foundation does not award grants directly to individuals.

§ Proposals are accepted from the U.S. and internationally, however all proposals must be submitted in English and budgets must be proposed in U.S. Dollars.

The United Nations Democracy Fund invites civil society organizations to apply for funding for projects to advance and support democracy during the annual proposal window.

The United Nations Democracy Fund was established by the UN Secretary-General in 2005 as a United Nations General Trust Fund to support democratization efforts around the world. UNDEF supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes. Call For Concept Note 2015 - SEI SIDA: for Environmentally Sustainable Development, Gender equality, and Poverty Reduction

SEI welcomes concept notes for events in Asia on advancing environmentally sustainable development, gender equality, and poverty reduction. The events should preferably bring representatives from government, the private sector, and civil society together with researchers, and feature active exchanges between participants.

Overall, the programme seeks to change mind-sets and everyday practices to ultimately benefit the citizens of the region, with particular attention to poor and marginalized groups such as, but not limited to, women, children, ethnic minorities and other environmentally vulnerable groups based on their specific contexts.

The programme will seek to strengthen environmentally sustainable development, gender equality, and poverty reduction in the region. Selected events should build new knowledge; leadership; strengthen existing capacity; enhance and foster networks and partnerships; and generate new collaborations and undertakings in ways that are gender-responsive. Special priority will be given to applicants who address gender issues and work towards the advancement of gender equality in innovative ways. There is also scope to consider private-sector collaboration and partnerships for development and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Events should also demonstrate likelihood to change practice and policy.

Criteria for selection:

Due to limited funding, SEI in consultation with SIDA will undertake a selection process of the submitted concept notes on the basis of the following criteria:

1. Thematic focus and relevance within the area of environmental sustainable development.

2. Equal and balanced participation of women and men such as resource persons, panellists, and discussants in the event.

3. Demonstrate likelihood that the event leads to more gender-responsive policy outcomes.

4. Regional-level strategic outreach and the scope of the event within the Asia Region, as opposed to a country-level event.

5. Demonstrate that the event would benefit the citizens of the region, with particular attention to the poor, women, and other marginalized groups.

6. Demonstrate likelihood to change practice and policy that will address poverty alleviation in the region.

7. Use of innovative facilitation methods and technologies to enhance participation and active discussion among participants.

8. Soundness of monitoring and evaluation plan for monitoring the change of behavior of target groups.

9. Reasonable proposed budget.

Grant Total:

A total of 1,200,000 SEK will be awarded evenly in the 4 quarters of a year to support 4 strategic events each year with the maximum limitation of 300,000 SEK.

GIF is open and accepting applications from social enterprises, for-profit companies, non-profit organisations, government agencies, international organisations, and researchers in any country to apply for funding. We take applications on a rolling basis, with no specific deadline to apply.

GIF welcomes applicants to propose innovative, cost-effective solutions that address any major development challenge in any country (or in multiple countries) in the developing world.

We evaluate our investments within the following criteria:

1. Innovation and Impact

GIF supports innovations that benefit people living on less than the equivalent of $5 per day (PPP) in developing countries, and we are especially interested in innovations that impact people living on less than $2 per day (PPP). We are also seeking innovations that benefit vulnerable groups such as women and girls, the disabled, minority or indigenous groups, refugees or displaced communities, or other vulnerable populations.

2. Potential to Scale

We seek innovations that have potential to eventually scale up and meaningfully improve the lives of millions of people living in developing countries. We ask all of our applicants to share their vision and plans for growing their innovations to a large scale, as we hope that many of the innovations we invest in will eventually reach this goal. Innovations should have strong potential to be politically, logistically, and financially viable at scale, whether they plan to commercialize or attract ongoing public support.

3. Team

We look for innovators with the relevant expertise and capabilities to achieve success, with clear roles, responsibilities, and time commitments needed to be successful. Teams should be able to demonstrate strong knowledge of the problems they are addressing and what approaches are likely to work in the local environment surrounding their innovation (e.g. operational, geographical, political, or social context).

Grant Program 2016 - World Bank: for research and interventions or related activities that will contribute to the prevention of gender-based violence in low and middle income countries.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the greatest social, economic and development challenges facing the world today. At least one-third of women across the globe experience GBV and the health and development consequences that this violence brings. The costs of violence are substantial. Violence against women and girls impedes full participation in society, limits access to education, labor force participation and ownership of assets, to name a few. For intimate partner violence alone, selected country estimates suggest that out-ofpocket expenditures, lost income and reduced productivity can amount to up to 4% of GDPmore than what many governments spend on primary education.

The SVRI and the World Bank Group are requesting proposals for research and interventions or related activities that will contribute to the prevention of gender-based violence in low and middle income countries. Due to high levels of competition and limited funds available, the quality of the proposal submitted will determine success in your funding application. Applications from legally constituted institutions, or organizations that have existing capacity, with high quality proposals are most likely to be successful in this category.

Eligibility of Applications:

Applications for support under this grant should be affiliated with a recognized, legally constituted research institution or non-government organization with existing research or programming capacity.

Project Length and Duration:

The activitiessupported underthis grantshould be for amaximumof 12months duration, with the expectation that the grant will cover all, or the majority of, the costs of the activities specified. The common characteristic of these grants isthe provision of limited funding for a short period oftime with a clear measurable outcome. Grants to a maximum of USD150,000 may be awarded. The Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF), managed by ELRHA, supports organisations and individuals to identify, nurture and share innovative and scalable solutions to the challenges facing effective humanitarian assistance.

The HIF is pleased to announce that its 10th call for applications is open. Over the past five years we have awarded over 60 grants to organisations working across the humanitarian system, from developing a rapid response wheelchair package to improving menstrual hygiene in emergency contexts.

Total Grant:

Grants from £75,000 to £150,000 are available to develop and/or implement an innovation in humanitarian settings:

§ Develop an innovation by creating practical, actionable plans and guidelines. For instance transforming designs from the drawing board into real-world solutions.

§ Implement an innovation in a humanitarian setting to produce real examples of changed practice, testing the innovation to see how it compares to existing solutions. Reducing vulnerabilities and exposure to natural hazards is key to building resilient communities. This requires integrated mainstreaming of disaster and climate risks into sustainable development policies and practice. To encourage communities, governments and businesses to prepare and manage climate or disaster impacts forward-thinking managers who promote resilience are needed.

Course objectives

This course will give you the opportunity to become a manager of change. Your capacity to encourage adaptation to changing climate-related hazards and improved resilience and disaster preparedness will be enhanced. The course will explore trends in disaster risk, the related factors contributing to the complexity of the planning environment, and the uncertainty and variability of climate change.

The programme has an interactive nature and incorporates group work, case studies, interactive lectures, discussions, presentations and excursions to offer background, theoretical aspects, as well as practical approaches. Resource persons from different disciplines will expose you to a broad range of domains.

Target audience

This training programme is designed for managers, policy makers, specialists and researchers who are professionally involved in the management of risks and hazards and climate change; they may work in public and civic society sectors, for universities, national research or development programmes, for government organisations or NGOs. You need at least have 3 years professional experience and proficiency in English is required.

This course is organised in cooperation with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre.

Direct Aid Program 2016 - AusAid: Flexible small grants program funded to NGOs

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible small grants program funded from Australia’s aid budget and managed through 66 of the department’s overseas posts. The management of DAP varies from post to post.

DAP is available on a not-for-profit basis to individuals, community groups, NGOs and other entities engaged in development activities in countries that are eligible for overseas development assistance. The program focuses on supporting small-scale development projects and activities that involve the beneficiaries in the identification, design and management of the projects.

There is no minimum amount that a single DAP project can receive but the maximum is $60,000 over the life of the project. Activities may run up to a maximum of two years.

Call for 100 Resilient Cities Challenge 2015 - Rockefeller Foundation

The 100 Resilient Cities Challenge seeks to find 100 cities that are ready to build resilience to the social, economic, and physical challenges that cities face in an increasingly urbanized world. Is your city ready to become resilient?

We can't predict the next disruption or catastrophe. But we can control how we respond to these challenges. We can adapt to the shocks and stresses of our world and transform them into opportunities for growth. If your city applies for the 100 Resilient Cities Challenge, it could be one of 100 cities eligible to receive funding to hire a Chief Resilience Officer, assistance in developing a resilience strategy, access to a platform of innovative private and public sector tools to help design and implement that strategy, and membership in the 100 Resilient Cities Network.

Who can submit an application?

Challenge entrants will be primarily municipal governments. Only one entry per city will be eligible for consideration in the challenge. All entrants will be required to submit a letter of support from the highest-ranking representative of the city government, whether elected or appointed. Generally, this representative would be a mayor, city chief executive officer, or city manager. Major institutions (e.g., a nonprofit organization, university, chamber of commerce, or research center) that have an affiliation with a city may apply on the city’s behalf upon satisfying the following two requirements: (1) within the required letter of support, the highest ranking official must indicate agreement with all entry form answers and (2) the entry form must include at least one city contact and a valid email address. Affiliated organizations may also apply when a city cannot represent itself for legal reasons.

Call For Proposal 2015 - UNEP: Sustainable Lifestyles and Education - scaling up and mainstreaming

The Secretariat of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP) invites proposals on "Sustainable Lifestyles and Education." The aim is to foster sustainable lifestyles in relation to resource efficiency, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and poverty eradication and social well-being. The current call emphasizes scaling-up and mainstreaming. Eligibility for funding extends to government organizations and non-profit organizations in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. Non-profit organizations need to provide a mandatory copy of their proposals to the National Focal Point of their countries. Grants will range from US$100 thousand to US$200 thousand for projects of one or two years.

Call For Proposal 2015 - UN ILO: Fund for Evaluation in Employment

The Fund for Evaluation in Employment is an initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO) aimed at improving the effectiveness of employment and enterprise development interventions in the Middle East and North Africa. Through this call for proposals in 2015, the Fund offers technical assistance and seed funding to project implementers and researchers for impact evaluations and results-based monitoring and evaluation systems. A particular focus lies on generating evidence on labour market outcomes for young people and women. The Fund is supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), Silatech and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Eligible Organizations:

Eligible organizations include research institutions, NGOs, multilateral institutions and governments either implementing labour market and enterprise programmes or conducting research in the Middle East or North Africa.

What is the support to shortlisted projects?

The Fund delivers two types of support: technical assistance and funding. The technical assistance is delivered through training, expert advice and small cash grants and is mainly directed at practitioners for the establishment and implementation of results-based monitoring and evaluation systems, as well as in some cases for the design of impact evaluations.

Seed funding of up to US$650,000 is available for the implementation of 3-5 impact evaluations that should be conducted by or in partnership with researchers. According to the stage of the proposal, both support types can be provided, building on each other in a complementary manner.
