										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><span style="font-size: medium;">Dr. W. R. Horner, Waverly&#8217;s Oldest Citizen, Dies</span></strong></p>
<p>Waverly, Tenn., April 24&#8211;(Special)&#8211;Funeral services were scheduled this afternoon for <strong>Dr. William Russell Horner</strong>, 96, Humphrey County&#8217;s oldest citizen, at Bascom Church, with <strong>Elder Russell Scott</strong> of Murray, KY., officiating, assisted by <strong>Elder Cecil Davis</strong>. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery.</p>
<p>Dr. Horner died Saturday night at his home here following a long illness. A native of Perry County, he was the son of the late <strong>John</strong> and <strong>Elizabeth Patterson Horner.</strong> He moved to Humphreys County in 1878.</p>
<p>When a young man he taught in Perry County schools, later enrolling as a medical student at the University of Nashville. He began practicing medicine in 1878, serving as a general practitioner until 1936, when he retired from active duty. He was believed to be the oldest doctor in the state.</p>
<p>Dr. Horner had been a member of Primitive Baptist Church since boyhood. His wife, the former <strong>Miss Amanda Frances Pace,</strong> whom he married in 1869, died several years ago.</p>
<p>Surviving are three daughters, <strong>Mrs. Lauretta Morgan</strong>, Waverly, <strong>Mrs. Leila Warren</strong>, Nashville, and <strong>Mrs. Wiley McKeel,</strong> Barberton, Ohio; three sons, <strong>Charlie</strong>, McEwen, <strong>Willliam I</strong>, Washington D.C., And <strong>J. F. Horner</strong>, Waverly; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, <strong>J. F. Horner</strong>, Centerville, and two sisters, <strong>Mrs. Betty Nix</strong>, Linden, and <strong>Mrs. Viola Pope</strong>, Luray.</p>

Stan Ham officiating. Burial was at Harpeth Hills Memory Garden in Nashville. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Infant Holmes died March 24 at Vanderbilt Children&#8217;s Hospital in Nashville. Survivors include her parents, <b>Tim and Lisa Holmes</b> of Dickson; a brother, <b>Jonathan Reeves</b> of Dickson; two sisters, <b>Lydia Holmes </b>and <b>Kristen Holmes,</b> both of Dickson; maternal grandparents, <b>Robert C. and Jane Moore </b>of Dickson; paternal grandparents, <b>James D. and Margaret Smith Holmes </b>of Chestertown, Md.; and great-grandparents, <b>Price and Minnie Moore </b>of Baghdad, Ky.</p>

Mr. Goodloe was a native of Waverly, TN, worked for the Citizen&#8217;s National Bank of Waverly, the E.I. Dupont powder plant in Nashville and for 13 years with the Nashville Banner before joining The Florida Times-Union on September 15, 1925 as a National Advertising Salesman. He succeeded J.M. Elliot as National Advertising Manager and later was named Retail Advertising Manager. He served 41 years !d of directors of the Gator Bow l Association, and a member of the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce and its Committee of 100. A member of Riverside Presbyterian Church. <strong>Mr. Goodloe</strong> was preceded in death by his wife, <strong>Elouise</strong> in 1988, and is survived by his daughter, <strong>Mrs. James O. Sewell (Dorrald) </strong>and her husband <strong>James</strong>; 2 grandchildren, <strong>Charles Edward Sewell</strong> and his wife<strong> Libby</strong>, and<strong> Susanne Dorrald Sewell</strong>; and 2 greatgrandchildren, <strong>James Allen Sewell,</strong> and<strong> Rebecca Elizabeth </strong><strong>Sewell.</strong></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Kimberly Shawn </strong><b>Foster</b>, 18, of New Johnsonville was pronounced dead on arrival at Benton Community Hospital following a traffic accident Thursday, July 6, 1989.Funeral services were held Sunday, July 9 at Stockdale-Malin Chapel with <strong>Bro. Roy Helms</strong> and <strong>Bro. Roger Hood</strong> officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.</p>
<p>Born Sept. 27, 1970 in Camden, she was the daughter of<strong> James L. </strong><b>Foster</b> Jr. and <strong>Shirley A. </strong><b>Chappell Foster </b>of New Johnsonville. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, <strong>Jonathan Shane Foster</strong> of New Johnsonville; Maternal grandmother, <strong>Tylene </strong><b>Chappell Runions</b> of New Johnsonville; paternal grandparents, <strong>Mr. and Mrs. James L. Foster Sr</strong>. of Hollow Rock. She was also the granddaughter of the late <strong>Hugh Chappell</strong> of New Johnsonville.</p>
<p><strong>Miss Foster</strong> was a student at Southeastern Freewill Baptist College in Wendell, North Carolina. She was working as a cashier at IGA in Camden during the summer. She was a member of Gorman Freewill Baptist Church.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Funeral services were held Thursday, September 2,1993, at Humphreys County Funeral Home for <strong>Joseph Flowers</strong> of Waverly. Mr. Flowers, 59, died September 1 after a lengthy illness. <strong>Brother Jim Revves</strong> officiated at the service with burial at Concord Cemetery. The Humphreys County Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Flowers was born in Humphreys County and had been a resident of Humphreys County for 15 years. Mr. Flowers was the son of the late <strong>Luke Flowers and Bessie </strong><b>Holly</b> <b>Flowers</b>. He was married to <strong>Dorothy Jean Herndon Flowers</strong>. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, <strong>Jackie</strong> of Calhoun; <strong>Joel</strong> of New Johnsonville, <strong>Melvin</strong> of Cleveland, and <strong>Christopher</strong> of Waverly; 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.</p>

Mr. Flowers, age 65, died Wednesday, September 24, after an extended illness. <strong>Bro. Johnny Young</strong> of New Johnsonville officiated at the service with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. Luff -Bowen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.</p>
<p>He was born in Humphreys County and was a life long resident, except for service in the Army during World War II. He was retired from TVA,New Johnsonville, and received a Bronze Star during World War II. He was the son of the late Luke and Bessie Holley Flowers. He was married to <strong>Mrs. Frances</strong> <b>Oakley Flowers</b> of New Johnsonville.</p>
<p>Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Danny Ray <b>Flowers</b>, Roger Dale <b>Flowers</b>, both of New Johnsonville; one daughter, Miss Anita Joyce <b>Flower</b>s of Cookeville; three brothers, Robert Flowers of Obion, David <b>Flowers </b>of Port Arthur, Tx., Joseph <b>Flowers</b> of Waverly; and six grandchildren.</p>

<p>She was born in Humphreys County. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the daughter of the late <strong>Albert and Ada </strong><b>Edwards Chappell</b>.</p>
<p>Survivors include her children, Mrs. Vivian <b>Lashlee</b> of Dickson, Joe <b>Sterling</b>, Mrs. Sue <b>Vaughn</b>, both of New Johnsonville; one sister, Mrs. Bernice <b>Donegan</b> of Dickson; four brothers, Glen <b>Chappell</b>, Clyde <b>Chappell</b>, Coy <b>Chappell</b>, all of New Johnsonville, Wade <b>Chappell</b> of Vanleer; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ida Mae <b>Ethridge</b>, 78, of Denver, Tenn., died Saturday, October 24, 1981 at Green Valley Nursing Home in Dickson. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 26 at Ebenezer Methodist Church with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.</p>
<p>Mrs. Ethridge was the daughter of the late Alonzo Ross <b>Jackson</b> and Louella <b>Cravens Jackson</b>. She was the widow of John <b>Ethridge</b>. She was a retired employee of the Waverly Garment factory and attended church at the First Pentecostal Church in Camden.</p>
<p>Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Clara Dean <b>Wheeler</b>, Memphis; Mrs. Almetta <b>Edwards</b>, Sylvia, Tenn.;Mrs. Bonnie Jane <b>Damesworth</b>,Gleason;two brothers, Carl <b>Jackson</b>, Denver, Tenn. and Max <b>Jackson</b>, Waverly, Tenn.</p>
