Hello, world. I disappeared for a while there :(

In short, I had a lot of work stuff, traveled to two weddings (totaling over 60 hours of airport and airplane time) and also had to recover from a horrible 2 week long flu. Phew!

Anyways, quick pictures from a trip to Swish Shabu. Swish is hands down my favorite shabu shabu place in Boston. I've written about shabu shabu before, here.

You guys, Trader Joe's has dried persimmons! I've never seem them sold dried before. They don't have any added sugar. They are sliced, not dried whole like got gam (곶감). (For a picture of how Korean persimmons are traditionally dried, click here.)

The Love with Food box is a monthly subscription box that's packed with unique food offerings. I've been a subscriber for over a year, and it's definitely one of my favorite ways to discover new and exciting brands. Last month, I announced I was switching to the Gluten Free box. I accidentally lied--I actually cancelled too late to not receive the August tasting box, so I get this opportunity to review both, side by side.

The GF box so far looks awesome. There are a few repeats from previous tasting boxes (I'll note them below) but it has the same great selection of new snacks that make this box super fun! The pamphlets this month have changed and now include handy reference tags saying whether items are Gluten Free, Organic, Vegan, etc.

Recently, my husband and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary, which we obviously used as an excuse to try some expensive food. My neighbor had recommended Uni Sashimi Bar, which is in the Eliot Hotel, as one of his favorites. We decided to try the Omakase menu (chef's choice).

Review: Udi's Gluten Free White Bread & Fiordifrutta organic fruit spread

As some of you may know, I generally don't eat wheat-based foods, as they tend to make my stomach hurt. But every once in a while, I just really really want toast. I ended up buying Udi's gluten free white sandwich bread to try with a fruit spread that I got in my Love with Food box from April.

The Corrib Pub is the kind of place you'd go to all the time if you were a group of friends in a sitcom (HIMYM!). It's cozy, not too crowded, and is generally a great place to grab a quick beer or dinner. The crowd tends to be somewhat older than at other bars in the Coolidge Corner area.

I (somewhat) recently had the chance to visit Harpoon Brewery in Boston, MA. I attended a private event that was hosted at the Brewery & Beer Hall, and ended up taking a tour of the brewery while I was there. Harpoon was founded in Boston, but has a second brewery in VT.

There's some amazing Korean food in New Jersey. Almost as amazing as the food in Korea. Some of the restaurants in New Jersey are so great that I've considered driving, from Boston, just to grab dinner. (I've only done this... once or twice over the past 5 years I've lived in Boston, haha!)

To Soc Chon is one of the restaurants that I always make a point to visit when I'm in NJ. When I took these photos, I had traveled to NY for a wedding. My friends and I ended up decided to cross the George Washington bridge and pay the super high toll just so that we could grab lunch here. Dedication, my friends! (PS: This post is long overdue--I had the photos and forgot to post.)

Tutorial: How to fold a chopsticks rest! (@ Gyu-Kaku, Brookline)

We are fancy so we don't like having our chopsticks touch the table. Wayyy fancy. Here are some instructions for if you want to be fancy, too!

1. Start with chopstick paper. Try not to rip it too much when you take the chopsticks out.

2. Fold in 4 (half and half again).

Gyu-Kaku is a Japanese BBQ chain that has locations across the US. The Brookline location opened fairly recently. In this type of restaurant, you grill meat over a table grill. The meat is sliced thin so that you can cook it fairly quickly.

Review: Ice Breakers Cool Blasts Chews

Recently, my parents sent me a care package with various items, many of which will show up on this blog. When I saw these "Cool Blasts" I was like "cool" (hah I'm hilarious) and put them on my kitchen counter with other gum. Shockingly, this might be the strangest item that I've ever eaten.

Chutney's is an Indian fast-food restaurant. There are two locations--one in the food court in the Garage at Harvard square, and the other is in the Longwood Galleria food court. This review is for the Longwood location.
