i have been to this chicken rice shop at Tumpat for quite some time. and i can say it is one of the best in town.

the chicken is well cook inside and crispy outside. the rice is soft and aromatic smell..

I haven't heard news from this buddy for quite sometime and a few week ago i just realize they had update a few entry and i just did not have time to follow them. However here is the latest and interesting visit. Enjoy it.

Siem Reap (13.06.2012 – 16.06.2012) – Part 2

our day started very early as sunrise starts from 5.30am.

first stop will be at the main attraction of this trip, Angkor Wat

but first, you'll have to show your pass to one of the few guards here!

after around 5minutes walk, at last we reached the main building. too bad the front building was under restoration back then.

anyway, back to the sunrise…

the most important thing – get a nice spot! coz the crowd is crazy… notice the carpet on the above? those belongs to creative entrepreneurs. if you want to sit on it, be prepared to buy expensive coffee or sandwiches from them!

next, frame a good shot while waiting for the sun to wake up! haha!

voila! the end result. too bad for our lousy photography skills. else, it will be a nice photo!

after spending an hour or so, we proceed to the interior of the temple

not going to elaborate much on the temple other than the attraction which is the Bas Relief. what it is?

the carvings on the wall are Bas Reliefs. these carvings surround the whole temple itself.

for those without a Guide to explain the events carves on the wall, we can only see a brief descriptions on the info placed on various places. just remember to follow the correct way/chronology when reading!

After Angkor Wat, it's back to the hotel for a quick breakfast. yes, we can go out of the and back to the temple area a few times as long as the pass is within the stipulated time

some noodles for breakfast where we add everything in the photo above together. not bad! taste a bit like asam laksa with lots of coconut milk.

anyway, back to the Temple trip!

not really a temple here, but it's just a gate – South Gate of Angkor Thom.

the heads lining on the side was heavily damaged and restored. can you see which one are the restored head?

Bayon. where there are hundreds of faces in the temple itself!

different from your usual temple, no?

next stop is the temple that max out our stamina!

Baphuon

this temple consist of a few crazy steep levels!

although the steps were steep, i am adamant to climb to the top as i was curious of what is in store for us there…

upon reaching the top, i was like WTF???!!! i risked my life just to see this??!! aih…

and the dreaded walk down…

after all the climbing at Baphuon, we have no more energy to climb…

imagine our horror when we saw the stairs leading up to Phimeanakas. we ended up sitting under a tree for half and hour while observing other people struggling to climb up. haha!

by this time, we were exhausted, sweaty and hungry!!!

this photo show it all… taken in some unknown temple on the way for lunch

lunch was some simple stir fried beef. this dish cost us freaking USD5!!!

Tips : be sure to bargain for every thing, especially food. due to our lousy bargaining skills, we are only able to bargain to USD4. if you are a great bargainer, try to bargain till USD1. haha!

amok. One of an Cambodian signature dish! don't really fancy it though. too much coconut milk.

after filling our stomach and getting a breather, we are ready for our next destination

Ta Keo.

nothing really special about this temple though…

but the children here (and in any of the temples here) make this place an interesting place. great memory (don't ever say you will come back again to buy if you don't intend to, they will remember), smart in dealing business (try bargaining with them and you will know) and speaks great English (we had a good laugh seeing them speaking with other tourist. serious, they are good in English!)

to the top of Ta Keo.

OMG was the first sentence that was uttered out of my mouth when i saw this. the Mat Salleh aunty who heard it also told me that was what she said when she saw that too! haha!

the 3 of us ended up watching people climbing it instead…

next stop will be the temple where the movie Tomb Raider was shot – Ta Phrom

a 15minute walk in a forest trail before we reach the main temple.

at last, we've reach the temple!

the main attraction of this temple is that the huge trees that are grown from the temples!

come to think of it, which is the Tomb Raider tree??? haha!

some other parts of the temple which are not under restoration

this will be our final temple for the day – Banteay Kdei

looks pretty normal from outside?

the interior of the temple is their intricate carvings.

this is one of the tiring trip! and we are only covering small circuit (there's a big circuit which was not covered by us).

i think in order to truly enjoy the temples, 1 day will be a bit rushed! if the budget and time is not a problem, get at least a 3 day pass.

Train Tourism - Train travel to Tumpat

It had been awhile i'm off this blog. In this entry i would like to share the photos of the My Journey to Tumpat (to my girl friend's house) by train... I believe not every one have the experiences to travel by train even in short journey. So, let me share you some nice view along the journey...
fuh.. it is also a danger action taking photo on a moving train.. ^^

The Photo is taken along the journey from Sg.Nal - Temangan - Bukit Panau - To' Uban - Chica Tinggi - Pasir Mas -Kg. Machang - Bunut Susu - Wakaf Bharu - Kok Pasir - Tumpat. and this Journey cost me 2 Hours and Only RM2.90.

it's the first chinese new year that we had together sine we got married.

For me, there's nothing much other than to get ang pau (oh wait, that was before i get married. now i dread it!), eat till you get sick, meet up with family members and also small time gamble. haha!

other than the fact i'm married now (and i have to clean up the house), CNY will always be the same. as always, i will not be able to have reunion dinner with other family members as i will have errand to do on the eve. This year, we decided to cook a grand lunch all by ourselves.

Yes, the portion above is only for two of us!
'loh hon zai' (will never forget the chinese cabbage!), oatmeal prawns, steamed salmon, 'gu lou' pork and lotus root + peanut soup!

the dishes above taste great! not bad at all as it was the first time fatpig cook the dishes.
it's a good start for the water dragon year!

this will be the final part of our trip to Bali.
the third day was a free and easy day for us as we decided to go and take a walk in the town area and do some souvenir shopping for family and friends at home. hence, there are nothing much to show as we were busy looking for knick knacks and stuff.
anyway, will show some snapshots of photos taken along the way instead

Warung Made with its overflowing customer. doesn’t matter it’s night or day!

our driver told us earlier that this is where the second bombing happened in 2005.
in the evening, it’s back to the beach for a little stroll

and my... there are a lot of people there. feeling a bit hungry, we decided to have Mexican food at TJ’s since it is very near to where we stay and also very recommended by a lot of people

the atmosphere there was good! again, apologize for the bad photo

Chilli Con Carne for both of us

chicken fajitas for me. served with various condiments and sauce. especially their signature hot sauce!

while wifey had… erm,… i forgot what was it. haha!
i forgot the price already. but one thing is for sure, it was cheap compared to what we had in Malaysia.
not to mention it taste good and the portion is big!!! and oh, i think i’ll omit Chilli Con Carne in the future as we really had trouble finishing it. haha!
after a filling dinner, it’s time to accelerate the digestive system by walking around Kuta and Legian nightlife area.

the never ending pubs and clubs…

and of course, who can forget the Bali Bombing Memorial as a respect to those who perish in the horrible 2002 bombing by terrorist.
after filling our tummies to the brim and torturing our legs for the night, it’s off to the bed for…
the final day of our Bali trip.
how time flies when we were having fun…

one last look at the Gate of Kuta Beach before going to our next destination.
which is more shopping at Sukawati (AGAIN!) and it surrounding places.
and also another stop at Ubud for more shopping and lunch!

bakso! and you know what, it’s hard to find a mobile food stall in Bali! and the owner explained it’s because the Government doesn’t allow them to operate openly. how true was that. i’m not sure. but it sure is hard to find one.

is this our lunch? hell no!!! that was only a starter

i think this will give a clearer picture. yes, Nuri serves the most kick ass ribs in Bali!!!
and oh, the glutton in us ordered pork satay too!

and the satay sauce was super spicy!!! and 2 glasses of drink was not enough to put down the fire on my tongue!

ordered a big sausage too. nothing to shout about, but we lapped it out anyway!

at the end of the lunch, we were stuffed and satisfied (and my tongue is on fire!!!).
and once the bill is paid, it’s off to the airport…
and oh, i had a mild fever on our flight back too. must be from the spiciness of the food earlier!
what a way to end our trip. haha! but it’s fun nonetheless!

the second day of our trip is not as exciting as the first day. i would say it is more relaxing. As it is the first day, it was time to get up early on the second day (8am to be exact) as the journey from one place to another will be long…

Anyway, the first stop is Taman Ayun Royal Family Temple. first impression, it looks more like a big garden than a Temple to me. but it is still a nice place to go nonetheless. and oh, one thing, since we did not hire any guide to tell us the history/stories of the buildings thoughout our trip, we are left on our own to guess what is it, either from the information board or eavesdropping on other tour guides! haha!

makes you wonder what is inside the hut, no?

artisans those days are great. how long does it takes to finish this block alone? let alone the whole temple?

this must be some kind of observation deck or some meditation place.

the stairs up to the tower is so narrow and the flimsy railings doesn’t help much! my legs go weak on my way up!!! the most embarrassing thing is that my wife those kids have no problem going up at all!

but the view from the tower is worth it! but the way down from the tower is… knee weakening again. haha!

weather is quite cooling, almost like Mount Batur. this is definitely my kind of place!
the temple was super crowded on that particular day as our driver said the temple was reopened again after a major renovation. so they have a Upacara (ceremony) for that.
for your info, Balinese are very much into Upacara. they have a lot of reasons for it. during our trip, we’ve come across quite a number of the Upacara. i guess this is their way of life.

we are not allowed to go into this section though. but they were playing musical instruments inside. very very happening it seems!

our lunch was just a simple affair that day. on our way back from Ulun Danu, we just stop by a small food stall selling Ayam Bertutu.

a simple dish of ayam bertutu, vegetables, chicken liver, some condiments served with rice and fried onion soup

a close up of the dish. doesn’t look so appetizing but let me tell you, looks can be deceiving!
one we were full, it is off to Alas Kedaton which is some sort of a monkey forest. this is the place which we like the least thoughout the whole trip though. upon paying for the entrance fee, you will be ushered by a guide (who is actually one of the stall owners selling handicrafts and stuff) to lead you around Alas Kedaton.

they do have photo session with pythons too. but we gave it pass…

The guide and i. and monkeys are everywhere!

nope. those are not monkeys although they look like one. haha!

a small packet of peanuts are provided so you can feed them too. but some of them are quite aggressive too! i got one who climbed over me! noticed a guide in the background? she is holding a stick with her just in case the monkeys got nasty! actually i noticed that my guide was a bit scared of the monkeys too although she said the monkeys are quite gentle.

walk further, and you will see a small temple. looks like a scene from The Jungle Book. with more monkeys, BIGGER MONKEYS! apparently these monkey have their own gangs and territory too.
at the end of the walk, we were ushered to the guide’s shop to buy some handicrafts. no forcing though, but we just bought something from her.
will i go to Alas Kedaton again? no. but one advice of those who intend to go : beware of those monkeys!!! at least don’t get scratched or bitten by them. you never know if they have rabies or not…

the highlight of the day happens at the last itinery which is in Tanah Lot!

and lo and behold, the gate to Tanah Lot Temple!!!

Holy Spring just nearby the temple. not sure what is it for. but i guess it must be to get some blessings or something like that. those kids in purple attire are students. most probably to get blessing for good grades in exam?

the cliff over there is a good place for sun set watching. be sure to reach there early to get a good view of the sun set! it’s approximately 10 minutes from temple.

and from the cliff, if you walk for another 5 minutes, you’ll reach this magnificent place. not thing much there though as it is just a small place for praying. there’s also a restaurant and a place to watch Barong Dance there, but we did not go for that though.
and so we went back to the first cliff for sun set watching!

the tide was low at the time. when the tide is high, you’ll see only the temple in the middle of the sea, which i think will be a great view!

after waiting for around 20 minutes, at last we got to see the magnificent sunset!
dinner for the night will be at Warung Made in Kuta, since every one seems to be recommending it.

the crowd is quite big with people of various nationalities. we were seated on the second floor facing the stairs instead. apologies for the bad photo…

when in Warung Made, the first thing that you should order is Nasi Campur Special. literally translated as special mixed rice. just like its namesake, it comprises of a bit of everything, satay, prawn, chicken, vegetables and sambal. tastes normal to me though. but maybe it is just me who got used to eating malay/indon food in the office… but one thing is for sure, RP55k for a plate of nasi campur is a bit on the pricy side. but then again, they are famous AND it is a tourist spot, so i guess i shouldn’t be complaining.

wife got herself a kebab (lamb i think) with side dish of salad and potatoes (it looks like fried fish balls, right? haha!) and the taste is normal for us… but hey, at least we tried it!
and so after the dinner, we ended our night with a walk to the town area and a bottle of beer (sorry, not supposed to show a photo of wifey downing a beer all by herself. hehe!).

I just came back from my conference trip at Melaka Equatorial Hotel.

surfing @ Equatorial that cost me RM12

Due to limited budget, i decide to search for hotel in 100m radius.
And i have picked Fenix Inn.

the initial reasons why i pick Fenix are:

near to the Equatorial Hotel(where the conference held)
near to Mahkota Parade

when i reach there i just realize that

it is at the heart of Melaka shopping mall and tourist spot.
Dataran Pahlawan Mega Mall are close by and
the Melaka tourist hot spot are within walking distance.

Short conclution of Fenix Inn:

The room is comfortable, clean and air-conditioned, but a bit small.
They provide free wi-fi, drinking fountain in the hall with hot and cold water, free valet parking. Fit with the room rate charge, however it would be nicer if included breakfast...

Terenganu Trip Part 2: My Top 3 Resort at Merang Coast

The other part of story for my last Terengganu trip is...... visiting resorts we pass by during the way back home. Oh! this is might be a simple boring entry for you...

Let begin with the lunch after we check-out from GEM Beach Resort after 12 noon...
We had our lunch at Sutra beach resort, which also is the first resort we stop by.
Sutra has been my all time favorite resort. Why? they has a cool swimming pool. i call it the infinity pool.

first time i visit their website at http://www.thearyani.com i really had interest in this place...
Aryani is Bali / Teranganu Traditional concept resort. the enviroment is completely nature and away from the main road. It is almost like a secret garden for Puteri Kayangan (princess from heaven). If you are looking for that kind of place, try logon to their website.

i ask my GF to come here for honeymoon, but she give a big No for the answer. She feel this place is a bit too much of natural. (maybe it is rainy season, she hate there for too many mosquitoes. Blame the nature for that??)

Since photograph is not allow IN the resort (maybe because i am not stay there). I still insist to put the photo from OUT side of the resort. Nah!! give you the secret door to the secret garden.. haha

Terenganu Trip Part 1: Kuala Terengganu

After 2 hours drive from Kota Bharu, finally we reached The GEM Beach Resort at 11.am. Time for us to check-in to our room should be 2pm, lucky we are allowed when we were there. Most of the room were fully booked due to they are hosting some events for school and institution. However we still have room to stay as the room is booked weeks in advance with ZERO deposit!!

If you are lucky enough to get yourself a hotspot - sea view room you able to enjoy a Sunset/sunrise from your room balcony. Even you are not so lucky, you still enjoy the sound of the wave 24 hours no matter where is your room is located.

Since now are almost monsoon season, the wave are extremely loud and frighten well at least for my GF. She is so worried tsunami is coming...CHOI!! Touch wood.

to the state museum.

Yes, the Terenganu state museum - the largest museum in Malaysia. it is a good place for you to learn about culture, history and heritage of Terenganu. oh ya.. there is replica of Batu Bersurat founded in 1887 AD at Kuala Berang. For those interested in Petroleum, here there is a huge section displaying related to it at the petroluem gallery.

The State Museum open daily from 9am- 5pm.
Except for Friday close for Friday prayer during 12 noon- 3pm.

Price of ticket are as following:
Adult - RM5
Children - RM2
Uniform Student - RM1

Since we are already at the museum, Let go have a visit another GREAT landmark in Terenganu.

Bali is where we went for our honeymoon! breaking our four consecutive years of holidaying in the Land of Smiles. gotta try something different for our honeymoon. haha!
after a hasty booking for a hotel a month earlier, we end choosing AP Inn located in Kuta.

To be frank, we are not happy at all of the room. the interior sucks to the max which i don't even feel like posting it here. but for the price we pay (around RM130+ per night), i think we shouldn't complain much. in the end, we end up upgrading the room for the subsequent nights

since it's already night on our arrival, upon checking in, we just went for a quick dinner (cheap!), get some booze from the convenience store, take a short walk around Kuta and went off to bed for the next day!

which consist of a complex where vendors sell their handicrafts. nothing much for me though.
and there are a few places where they sell it by category (ie, gold, carvings, painting, furniture etc) in the vicinity too. of course, by car. haha! just remember to bargain hard!

hungry and feel like having pork for lunch? fret not for Bali serves kick-ass roast pork. one of the prominent ones is at Ibu Oka.

price wise, it is not cheap. but it is worth a try for the experience of it

just order the sepcial version and they will chuck everything for you. remember to go there early as it is said that the restaurant will be packed with crowd. we went there early on that day. i think is around 11am just to beat the crowd.

next stop, Tirtha Empul Spring Water Temple. one of the temples where people cleanse themselves. ooohhh… look at those japanese ladies. hehe!

the legendary Luwak Coffee. what does it have to do with the civet cats?
well, the civet cats will eat the coffee beans, the enzymes in their stomach will churn out some magic and the undigested coffee bean will be 'shitted' out, literally. sounds gross, but be rest assured that they are washed thoroughly (i hope) and then roasted before being grind into coffee powder. plus, those cats are picky eaters and they will only eat the best beans. hence, you'll only get the best 'poop coffee'! hehe!

and oh, you know how much this i paid for this freaking small cup of coffee? 50K Rupiah! goodness!!! again, it's all for the experience. i'm not really a coffee connoisseur, so i can't give much comment on the taste/texture of the coffee. feeling refreshed after the cup of coffee (no, not really because of the coffee but more of the price), we went to…

this is one of our favourite place it Bali as it is cooling!!! and the view is spectacular. nothing much to do other than to enjoy the view. but we will definitely go there again next time!

passing by Tegalallang rice view on the way back to Jimbaran view was not that spectacular. maybe it is not the right season when we were there.

beware of touts though. they can be seen everywhere in Bali. you can smell them from miles away. once they know you are interested in it. you will be swarmed by a lot of them…
and by the time we reach Jimbaran at 5pm, we were just in time to enjoy our dinner by the beach and enjoy the sunset. for your info, the sun sets in Bali at around 6pm.

the whole of Jimbaran is transformed into al-fresco dining.

there's a lot seafood to choose from. but to make things easier, we just go for the set dinner for two. the damage? 805k Rupiah.

here's a closer look of the food. no included in the photo are the rice, soup and fruit. the food is nothing spectacular though and the fish is not fresh. ouch!

but the view is spectacular! our cheapo camera did not give any justice to this photo!

not to mention that you can view the airplanes landing too! nice!

when the night comes, expect a sea of candle lights along the beach

some dance shows and some live band performing around tables. i guess if you look rich enough, they will come to your tables and perform songs of your request. get ready to give tips if they do come to your table. hehe!

which restaurant did we went to? this is the one. oh… looky! 'wong lou kat' has its market in Bali too! cool!

Yes, Finally i going to be on another trip, this time to Terenganu. Terenganu is an interesting place to visit, it is a one place to do shopping, recreation, and adventure or sport. Speaking of sport, the coming international sport event that will be happening in Terenganu is the Monsson Cup.

My favorite part of Terenganu is the beaches and island. Terenganu has the Longest Exotic Beach In Malaysia (244 km) and lot of tiptop island such as the famous Pulau Redang, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Gemia, Pulau Tenggol and pulau perhentian which also reachable from Merang jetty. so why not enjoy the beauty & nature provided in Malaysia..

the initial plan for this trip is to stay at The GEM resort. I am so excited to update activity of this trip. see you in the coming post.. cao..

During the hunt for Homestay available at Sintok, Changlun and Hosba last week, a signboard of Hosba Valley Resort pointing toward a jungle bring upon my curiosity. However, I decide to take a turn and follow the path to find the mystical place. The further I go, the thicker the forest, and the clearer I can hear the sound of nature. This makes me even puzzled who would build a resort in a jungle? In that exact moment, I see the signboard written Seri Kedah Gardeniaa. Fuh!! It was really a relief, I found that place.

On the first step to the lobby, I was warmly greeted by Uncle Raj, asking me would like to go to the swimming pool. At that moment, i thought who care about swimming pool since UUM had an Olympic standard swimming pool. I am here looking for nice comfy, and pieces of quiet place to relax my overloaded research head. I was so relaxed and enjoy the sound and the green of nature around. Let share some of the Green and Blue of the place with you.

In the moment, I walk in a small lane, I heard sound of children splashing water. So, that must the swimming pool Uncle Raj said and Wow.. it did surprise me... that swimming pool was huge, nice and clean. If i bring short with me that day, I will just into the pool immediately.
