There is a feeling of "deja vu" when I saw Dookie Ducay's latest photographic work with Joshua Fifield as model. The eerie feeling was there ... giving me the impression that somebody have used the same idea before - that of a Fil-Am kid who wants to get a feel of his Filipino roots.

Imagine ... a rich and good looking Joshua going to the farm instead of malls ... and there's more... they make him wore a native hat ... wade in the muddy rice field ... having his delicate-mestizo skin get sharp cuts caused by sugar cane leaves ... or work with the not-so-cooperative-carabao who gave Joshua a little beastly attitude.

I tried to check Google and with some luck, I got some answers ... there was really one living person who has tried that ... not only for one day ... but maybe months ... or years. Ladies and gentlemen I am referring to David Eric Poarch, another Fil-Am kid who left America in exchange for a simple life in the Philippines. I wanted to give you a back to back feature of Joshua and David .... to give you the idea of what I am talking about ... and while we are at it , we will have a rare chance to compare both works.

Dookie Ducay has the edge for sure ... he being a professional and Dookie being surrounded with a creative team ... each one of them contributing to make each image a priceless work of art. On the other hand David's photos looks good in fairness to him ... we don't know if he is an amateur or if he is using a timer to shoot himself. Or did he have a photographer tugging along with him? More of Joshua is the next ish.

David Eric Poarch: This Fil-AM Is Inspiring!

The Adventures of Coconuter (or David Eric Poarch) is a heartwarming story of a Filipino American kid who grew up in America was raised in a very comfortable family but his desire to learn more about the country where his mother came from was so intense that one day he packed his bag ... left his parents in America and the nomad (that's what he call himself) adventure begins. He started to fuse, blend and merge with anything Filipino and his daily escapades ... a learning experience. What was cute about the whole experience was that all his haps and mishaps were documented in a photoblog that attracted millions of readers from around the world.

David's story was so inspiring ... and what was commendable about David is the fact that he doesn't have any qualms or reservation on doings things he has not done before. Mr friends were raving about his pictures climbing a coconut tree ... much more his photos showing him plowing the field. His photos showing him carrying a wooden cross put readers in awe (why ... not all Filipinos have tried that) I was even expecting he will go to the extent of allowing himself nailed.

The readers also were treated showing him eating using his bare hands (so very Filipino) and his photos with the carabaos almost swept us. Even his stories where he spent his idle time walking in Roxas Boulevard (things I want to experience but has no time to do it) ... and watch the beautiful sunset ... makes me wonder if somebody is writing a script for him.

Indeed David story continued to inspire us. Joshua Fifield and Dookie Ducay's latest photographic endeavor has a semblance of David's photo-diary... although not intentional, both works continue to move us. It is quite an irony that Fil-Ams are trying to experience anything Filipino ... things some 100 % Filipinos feared ... or are ashamed to do ... or just even try!

Aljur Abrenica will topbill GMA-7's version of Machete, which will air its pilot episode on January 24, 2011.

In GMA-7's adaptation, Aljur Abrenica is cast as Machete, an ancient Ifugao warrior. He was transformed into a tree after being killed in battle. Decades after, this tree becomes the favorite subject of a beautiful sketcher (played by Bela Padilla) who later sells her drawing to an equally gorgeous sculptor (played by Ryza Cenon).

Ryza's character falls so in love with the image that she eagerly decides to turn it into a wooden statue.

Aljur Abrenica follows in the footsteps of Cesar Montano and Gardo Versoza in bringing life to the sexy wooden statue. Cesar played the lead role in the 1990 movie while Gardo was the muscular lead in the 1994 version.

"Sobrang excited po kasi three years ko na pong hinihintay ito," says Aljur Abrenica about this project. "Hindi po exactly sinasabi sa akin na para sa akin. Nabalitaan ko lang na magkakaroon ng Machete three years ago.

"Hindi na po nagkaroon ng auditions kaya thankful ako na ako po ang napili, napakasuwerte ko."

Aside from Bela Padilla and Ryza Cenon, Aljur Abrenica will also get the chance to work with Gwen Zamora, who is cast in this TV show as the daughter of the archeologist who digs up Machete's villain.

"Personally, si Machete kasi nakikita ko sa sarili ko. In a way na si Machete kasi, lalaking-lalaki ang dating, moreno, at Filipino," says Aljur. The young actor got his break in showbiz by being named the Ultimate Hunk of the reality artista search StarStruck: The Next Level.

The figure of Machete to be used in GMA-7's fantasy series will be sculpted by National Artist and Father of Philippine Modern Sculpture, Napoleon Abueva, and his team of experts including his son Lawin.

During the movie's press conference held at the Imperial Palace Suites in Quezon City, Lovi told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that she last talked to Ronald Singson on January 13.

Ronald, the son of Ilocos Sur governor Luis "Chavit" Singson, was arrested at the Hong Kong airport on July 11, 2010. He was allegedly carrying 6.7 grams of cocaine and two tablets of diazepam, commonly known as Valium. He is now out on bail but cannot leave Hong Kong.

When members of the press asked Lovi if she will be going to Hong Kong to attend his January 26 hearing, she said, "I don't know if I'm going to be there but hopefully, okay ang lahat."

Although Lovi has described herself as "single" in her Twitter account, she said: "It's hard to explain but it wasn't me."

"I don't want to comment," said the GMA-7 actress.

Ina Feleo signs up with Star Magic; lands lead role in grade-A film Ikaw ang Pag-ibig

Ang isa sa bida ng naturang family drama ay si Ina Feleo, ang anak ng yumaong aktor na si Johnny Delgado at ni Laurice Guillen.

Kamakailan ay pumirma na si Ina bilang talent ng Star Magic. Dati siyang Backroom talent na pinamamahalaan ng TV host na si Boy Abunda.

Ayon kay Ina, naging maayos naman ang pag-uusap nila ni Boy tungkol dito.

May isang eksena ng pelikula kunsaan lamig na lamig ang karakter ni Marvin at nagtsi-chills ito. Ayon kay Ina, naranasan din dati ito ng veteran actor na si Johnny bago siya pumanaw.

"All throughout, naalala ko si Daddy, naka-relate ako sa character ko bilang Vangie kasi napagdaanan ko ang hirap ng anak ng isang cancer victim. Siya yung inspirasyon ko rito to do the scenes sa buong movie.

"As an actress, ang ginagamit ko kasing inspirasyon for the scenes ay yung mga pangyayari sa totoong buhay ko... para magampanan ko nang maganda yung character ko sa movie na ito."

Bago nagsimula ang screening, tinawag ni Direk Marilou Diaz-Abaya ang lead stars ng mga pelikula upang samahan siya sa entablado habang inaalala niya ang challenges na pinagdaaanan nila habang ginagawa ang pelikula.

Ito ang sinabi ni Direk Marilou nang tawagin niya si Ina upang umakyat sa entablado ng Dolphy Theater:

"I'd like to call on someone [I've known even], before she was born, because her mother and I were two females in a mostly male-dominated industry.

Si Direk Marilou ang nagdirehe ng critically-acclaimed movies tulad ng Brutal (1980), Moral (1983), Karnal (1984), Baby Tsina (1985), Jose Rizal (1998), Muro-Ami (1999), at Bagong Buwan (2001). Ang kanyang huling project ay ang Maging Akin Muli (2005).

Tumigil muna siya sa pagdirek ng pelikula nang ma-diagnose siya ng breast cancer noong January 2007.

Apat na artistang babae ang makakaulayaw ni Richard Gutierrez sa Valentine movie niyang My Valentine Girls mula sa Regal at GMA Films. Tatlong seksi na sina

Rhian Ramos, Lovi Poe at Solenn Heussaff at ang magaling, pero hindi kagandahang si Eugene Domingo. Kasama rin ang child wonder na si Jillian Ward.

Anyway, inumaga raw sa shooting si Richard kaya late siyang dumating sa
presscon nila, na sinamahan din ng konting pa-raffle ng cash.

Since apat ang kapareha niya ngayon sa MVG, ano ang puwede niyang maging deksripsyon sa kanila?
“Ang hirap naman nu’n! Si Lovi? Kagabi magkasama kami sa shooting hanggang more or less 5 a.m.

First time ko to work with her. Alam naman nating magaling na artista si Lovi and she’s very hot right now! It’s not a secret! We all know that and I am very excited to work with her and I think we were able to nail a couple of good scenes last night!

“With Solenn naman, it’s her first time ever to be in front of the camera and act. So I’m so excited to work with her. She’s a bit nervous in the beginning but I assured her that everything’s gonna be fine.

“I think direk Andoy Ranay can attest to this as a beginner, she’s doing good! She’s very natural!” pahayag ni Richard.

Kumusta naman ang kissing scene nila ni Solenn?

“Wala pa!” sagot niya.

Eh, si Rhian?

“Si Rhian naman. First show niya ako ang kasama niya sa Captain Barbell and I can say that she has matured as an actress. Talagang very passionate na siya sa acting and she’s very good also. Very natural. Kumbaga, komportable na kami sa isa’t isa at kung ano ang sabihin ng director namin, very comfortable kami.

“I think we have a good working relationship ni Rhian kasi matagal na kaming magkasama.

“Si Jillian naman, ngayon lang ako naka-experience ng batang tulad niya. Kakaiba siya. Very talented, hyper at kahit na anong oras sa shooting, very energetic si Jillian.

“I think nagsu-sugar loading siya bago mag-take. Nonstop kasi ang energy niya. Natuwa ako minsan sa kanyang dramatic scene. Rehearsal pa lang umiiyak na! Tapos nang shot na, pero hindi pa siya kita, tanong nang tanong kung kita na siya sa camera at iiyak na! Sabi ko, hindi pa.

“Finally, nu’ng shot na niya, ang galing! Mahusay sa dramatic scenes! Take one
siya! After niya umiyak, balik sa hyper mode si Jillian. Hindi siya mahirap turuan. Hindi siya nagrereklamo,” kuwento ni Chard.

At ano naman ang masasabi niya sa kakaiba niyang leading lady na si Eugene?

“Speaking of positive energy, ‘yon ang dinadala ni Miss Uge sa ating lahat! Sa set namin, walang dull moment. It’s great working with her! She’s fun.

“Napakahusay ni Miss Uge talaga. Sinasabi niya na komedyante ako and I think, she brings out the best in me! Because of her kaya lumalabas ang pagiging

komedyante ko. ‘Yung comic side ko,” tugon ng Valentine Box-office King.

“Thank you, leading man! You also bring out the leading lady in me!” sagot naman ni Uge.

Eh, ginawa raw niyang tunay na babae si Uge sa kanilang kissing scene, huh! Pinaka-romantic daw ang kissing scene nila! Girl na girl daw ang feeling ni Eugene!

“Siyempre naman!” sambit ni Chard.

Wala ba siyang choice kaya nakipaghalikan siya kay Uge?

“Sa istorya, wala talagang choice, JN!”sey ng komedyana.

“‘Yun kasi ang premise sa story! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ms. Uge I think has established herself as one of the best comedians in this generation. Whatever she has achieved, I think, she deserves everything!” deklara pa rin ni Richard.

Derek Ramsay says current girlfriend Angelica Panganiban is "yummier" than ex-girlfriend Solenn Heussaff

Mula sa airport ay dumiretso ang hunky actor na si Derek Ramsay sa presscon para sa iniendorso niyang Belo Men skin care products kahapon, October 26, sa Annabel's restaurant sa Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

Kagagaling lang kasi ni Derek sa Hong Kong, kung saan nag-compete ang team na kinabibilangan niya to represent he Philippines sa Ultimate Frisbee Hong Kong Open.

Very proud ngang bitbit pa ng actor-athlete ang gold medal niya dahil nag-champion sila sa naturang sports competition.

Tinalo nila ang Beijing, China, sa finals. Pangalawang championship victory na ito ng team nina Derek ngayong taon; ang una ay nakuha sa isang tournament sa Singapore.

Bukod sa tagumpay sa sports, proud din si Derek na siya ang napili ng mag-inang Dra. Vicki Belo at Cristalle Belo-Henares para maging mukha ng Belo Men. Sa dinami-dami nga naman ng male endorsers ng Belo ay si Derek ang tinawag na "The Ultimate Belo Man."

Kaya naman agad tinanong ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kay Derek kung ano ang feeling niya sa titulong ibinigay sa kanya ng Belo.

"Hindi ako sanay na yun ang tawag sa akin. But I'm thankful to Vicki and Cristalle, if they see me as that. Nung in-offer sa akin ito, I don't see myself as that.

"Pero gusto ko kasing inaalagaan ang skin ko. There's nothing wrong in being called a metrosexual, that a guy takes care of himself. Hygiene, for all of us, whether women or men, is very important," saad niya.

SUPPORTIVE GIRLFRIEND. Kasama ni Derek sa Hong Kong ang girlfriend niyang si Angelica Panganiban. Malaking bagay nga raw para sa kanya ang ipinapakitang suporta ni Angelica.

"She followed me there," sabi niya. "It's really a big boost and inspiration on my part. I truly appreciate her presence there.

"And it's also our time to make up sa mga oras na hindi kami magkasama dito because of our busy sked. Isang araw lang kaming nakapag-ikot sa Hong Kong, pero nakakatulong yun sa relationship namin to catch up for lost time."

Pero kung si Angelica raw ang masusunod, gusto na nitong tumigil si Derek sa pagsali sa frisbee competitions dahil sa kanyang injuries.

"She's kind of given up on that," sabi ni Derek. "But I owe it to her. She really wants me to rest my knee.

"Not give up naman playing frisbee, but yung competitive frisbee which is taking a toll on me. I have a busted right knee.

"I just had surgery in February of this year. I re-aggravated it. I tore the wounds inside.

"So, maybe after these back-to-back wins, siguro isa na lang, yung sa Japan na lang, and I could retire na from competing."

ANGEL IS PART OF THE FAMILY. Sa isang interview sa kanya, sinabi ni Derek na Angelica is "not just a girlfriend but a part of the family already." Ano ang ibig sabihin niya nito?

"She is my friend. When I say she's part of the family, when I walk into the house, I don't have to do the prim and proper thing na 'Mom, Dad, here's Angel.' Papasok lang siya sa bahay kasi bahay na rin niya yun, e. Ganun lang kami sa bahay.

"It's one big family. When we go out, when we go on holidays, kung saan-saan natutulog. Angel will sleep with my nephews, with my sisters. I'll be sleeping in the other room. The next day, iba na naman yung sleeping arrangement.

"So, she's already part of the family and we all get along. I'm very happy that's the situation," sambit ni Derek.

Sobrang close na raw ni Angelica sa family niya. Sa katunayan, kapag nagpaplano sila ng bakasyon, si Angelica ang kausap ng mommy niya at mga kapatid.

"I've been trying to explain that. It's been that way for the longest time.

"Itong Pasko na ito, sila na nga ang nagpaplano, e. Ako, naghihintay na lang kung saan ako pupunta. Pero my mom, my sisters, si Angel ang nagpa-plan ng trip.

"I think we're going to Bali for Christmas or just after Christmas. And they're the ones doing the preparations," banggit ng aktor.

NO WEDDING PROPOSAL YET. Hindi ba siya minamadali ng parents niya na pakasalan na si Angelica?

"My parents never pressure me," sabi ni Derek. "They'll make me make my own decisions in time.

"In everything that I've done, never akong prinessure ng parents ko. They'll be there to support me in whatever decisions I make. They're there to support Angel and me."

Pero never pa ba siyang nag-propose ng kasal kay Angelica?

"No, not yet," sagot niya. "But if you're gonna ask me if she's the one, yes, she's the one.

"But have we spoken about it and if we have plans? No, we definitely have not. We want to get the things we'd like to be done first before we create new goals together.

"When you get married, that changes everything. She has her goals. I don't want to stop her from progressing. I have some goals that I want to achieve.

"And once that's all done, pag nakalatag na lahat yun, di go na kami."

Hindi ba siya nakukulitan na marami ang nagtatanong kung kailan sila ikakasal?

"No, actually I like it because it's nice to see that people want us to go that way. And people like our relationship.

"So, when people ask me about that, hindi ako naiinis. Natutuwa pa nga ako na parang yun ang gusto ng mga tao para sa amin.

"Yun din naman ang gusto ko in the long run. Pero right now, tapusin muna namin yung mga bagay na dapat naming gawin.

"Bakit naman kami magmamadali? Everything is doing so well. Our relationship is getting better and better, stronger and stronger. So, I don't want to change it right now. Everything is perfect."

SOLENN HEUSSAFF. Hindi naman maiwasang intrigahin si Derek ng entertainment press tungkol sa ex-girlfriend niyang si Solenn Heussaff dahil pumapasok na rin ito sa showbiz.

Tanong nga kay Derek ay kung sino ang mas yummy—si Angelica o si Solenn?

"Si Angelica!" mabilis nitong sagot.

Paano kung makarating ito kay Solenn?

"It's okay if it gets to her," sabi ni Derek. "Angel is my longest relation. So, definitely, she's yummier.

"It's not all about looks. They're both good, they're both very beautiful. But there's something with Angel and I that's why we're still together, which didn't happen to me and Solenn."

Ano ang feeling niya na nasa showbiz na rin si Solenn?

"I'm happy for her. She's a very talented girl, dati pa. Years back, alam ko naman na kaya niyang kumanta, kaya niyang umarte. She used to perform in her school in Paris.

"It's all a question [of] whether she wanted to go and pursue a career [in showbiz]. I'm happy for her that she's finally here."

Kung magkakaroon ng chance na magsama sila sa isang project, papayag ba siya?

"Oo naman!" bulalas ni Derek. "That would be great. Wala namang problema between us.

"Actually, Solenn and I are still friends to this day. Angel knows this. I text with her, but not on a regular basis."

Ano ang reaksiyon niya nang sumali si Solenn sa Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown?

"Yung sinalihan niyang show, that's her personality. I knew she would end up doing something like that. I wouldn't be surprised if she wins it. That's her personality."

Nagkaroon ba ng chance na mag-meet sina Angelica at Solenn?

"Yeah, they've met one time or two times. And it's okay.

"Even Solenn always ask me, 'Hey, when am I gonna meet your girlfriend?' So, there's no issue between Solenn and I, or even Solenn and Angelica," paniniguro ni Derek.

Nali-link ngayon si Solenn kay Richard Gutierrez. Ano ang comment niya rito?

"I don't know Richard personally, e. I know who he is, of course, but I don't know him personally. So, I wouldn't know if their personality would clash or would meet.

"But Solenn is easy to get along with. She's a beautiful lady. I'm sure there are lots of guys after her. Hindi ko alam kung magka-clash sila o magkakasundo sila," sabi ni Derek.
