Nigel won't let me say too much before we release the episode, but last night was INTENSE! I still get goosebumps just thinking about it. In the excitement, we accidentally left Dave. It's his own fault for sleeping on the job...

I for one don't want to go on any more of these overnight graveyard hunts. Too scary for this gal, thank you very much!

Garberville in search of ghosts

We're ready to film our second episode despite dreadful weather. Lindsey has found a small graveyard that is reportedly haunted by the ghost of Elias Morton and the twelve women he murdered. Despite the rain, we intend to scout the graveyard tonight and test some of the new gear. I would write more, but I'm recovering from a nasty cold. More later...

Jersey Devil episode & misc updates

Wow. It's been a busy week! Brother X-Ray is designing a cool opening sequence for Hunting the Unknown in After Effects, and Dave Nelson has gotten a killer music track from the Hallow Kids for the HtU theme. Our first episode, "Hunting the Jersey Devil" will be online by the end of the week.

We've also started recruiting for a Northern California based Production Assistant. We will be filming in Humboldt County later this month, and in Plumas County in April. PA candidates should have video production experience and be familiar with the area... especially the best places the get coffee. ;)

Going home

We're flying back to California tonight, tired but still excited from the hunt. We had no more sightings of the Jersey Devil after the first night... a few distant calls, but little video. Mark finally recorded Dave's video introduction, which should be posted online soon. It only took thirty or so takes. There's a reason some people should stay behind the camera.

Just kidding, Dave. We love you mate.

Jersey Devil sighting

Last night was remarkable. During our first interview with Ms. Carver, we were interrupted by a strange animal call from the nearby forest. I won't tell you what we captured on tape, as we are still analyzing the footage, but it seems there is certainly something out there in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Lindsey thinks we may have sighted a Sandhill Crane, which can have wingspans up to three meters wide. I disagree. I think the dark shape we saw above the trees was nothing less than the New Jersey Devil itself.

Mark, Dave and I waited the rest of the night in hopes of capturing another glimpse of our quarry, but had no more luck. We'll go out again tonight and keep our fingers crossed.

Hunting the Jersey Devil

Until this week, I have known New Jersey only as a sprawl of suburbs across the river from New York. But beyond the strip malls and track housing there are still areas mostly undisturbed by man. The desolate pine barrens remain as dark and beautiful as they were before the first European colonists landed on nearby shores. These forests are the hunting ground for our first subject: the Jersey Devil.

The origin of the Jersey Devil dates back to the 18th century. The story goes as follows: A woman named Mrs. Leeds, lived in secluded poverty with her twelve starving children. When she found out she was to have another child, she said "Let it be a devil."

When the child was born it was horribly deformed, with hooves, a horse's head, bat wings and a forked tail. It crawled up the chimney and flew away into the night. The Leeds Devil, as it is also known, is said to have fed on small children and livestock while haunting the area ever since.

Off Route 72 is the small community of Brookville, New Jersey. We traveled here on a cold Saturday morning to interview local residents about recent Jersey Devil sightings. A subdivision adjacent to Wharton State Forest has been plagued by an unseen creature with an unearthly scream. Two dogs have disappeared, and the entire neighborhood is terrified. This weekend Lindsey and I met with several people who claim to have heard the Jersey Devil's scream, but only one is an eyewitness.

Ms. Harriet Carver claims to have seen a large creature with black bat-like wings flying from treetop to treetop in the nearby Pine Barrens. She says it swooped down towards her dog but flew away when she shouted at it. Ms. Carver's story sounds genuine, so I will interview her on camera this evening before we begin our hunt in the nearby woods. Stay tuned!

Hunting the Unknown now in production

Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting! I'm Lindsey Amos, producer of HtU (as we call it around here). Over the next few months we'll be traveling the country searching for all kinds of beasties that go bump in the night. First stop: New Jersey. That's right, we're hunting for the legendary Jersey Devil! Look for regular blog entries from me and Nigel, plus behind the scenes info and photos from our hunts.

And we need your help! Your comments, reviews, and suggestions for future hunts will help make HtU a better series. Thanks again for joining us. It's going to be a wild ride! :)

Lindsey and I interviewed many qualified candidates for the production team this week. Thank you to everyone who applied. The "Hunting the Unknown" team is now complete with the addition of videographer Mark Cavanaugh and "sound guy" Dave Nelson. Both have worked in reality television and are eager to join the hunt!

The production office is shutting down for the holidays, but the website will be online by the new year and we'll start filming Episode 1 in early January. Stay tuned!

I suspect not many people are reading this yet, but my webmaster assures me that the Hunting the Unknown website will be ready in time for the new year.

What's new in the production office? Jenna Amos has joined her sister Lindsey on the team as our Production Manager and we are currently interviewing for a lead Camera Operator and Sound Operator. Candidates must have experience filming documentaries, own professional gear, and be willing to travel.

Hello dear friends,
I am pleased to announce that Lindsey Amos has joined the Hunting the Unknown team as our Line Producer. Lindsey has years of documentary experience and is already hard at work on our first episode. As soon as we have hired our production crew, we'll be jetting to the east coast for our first hunt: The Jersey Devil!
