As power returns, Red Cross feeding needs reduce

Seven Feeding Sites Remain in Operation

August 3, 2008 – Harlingen, TX – As we approach the second week since Hurricane Dolly struck South Texas; the American Red Cross continues to provide shelter and food to affected residents in the Rio Grande Valley Area. Red Cross has also been providing emergency assistance to those whose homes suffered major damage or were destroyed. Client Caseworks are meeting one-on-one with these families.

With the restoration of power to communities the need for Red Cross feeding has reduced. Meals are still available at 7 feeding sites for those residents still cleaning up or have not had their power restored. Three (3) Red Cross shelters remain open to assist residents who can not return home because of major damage and or destruction to their homes.

The local chapter of American Red Cross continues to provide services to the affected communities. Four Hundred (400) plus trained Red Cross disaster staff & volunteers from neighboring chapters and other states remain in communities throughout South Texas to assist the local chapter.

As communities start the recovery process, Red Cross actively evaluates and monitors the service needs of those impacted by the storm. Residents who need emergency assistance with emergency disaster caused needs, should call 1-866-GET-INFO (866-438-4636).
