2012 Conference a Huge Success; After Action Report Now Available

The 2012 Hurricanes and Healthcare Conference was held on March 15th and boasted over 320 participants from area healthcare facilities. The After Action Report from the tabletop exercise component is now available and includes feedback and lessons learned from the conference, as well as copies of all notes and images of all whiteboards written by each breakout group.

Participating individuals and healthcare facilities are encouraged to use this report as a template for developing a facility-specific Improvement Plan (IP) for their own organization.

Hurricanes and Healthcare 2011: Preparing for the Worst!!!

Co-sponsored by the Tampa Bay Regional Hurricane and Healthcare Planning Coalition of Hillsborough and Pinellas, in conjunction with Pasco and Manatee, and St. Petersburg College

Storm preparations? Are you ready? Is your plan workable? Have you tested it?

Participate in a table top exercise where you will experience the challenges that occur during pre-storm preparation and sheltering during the storm. In the morning, you will breakout into groups by facility size/type and address the challenges that will impact your group's "mock" facility. In the afternoon, everyone will participate in multi-facility groups as the storm hits. Find out what the other facilities are expecting you to do and what you expect of them. Will it all work out? Are your expectations the same? Bring your plan so you can make notes.

Continental breakfast, lunch, and break provided.

Please arrive between 7:15AM - 7:45AM to sign-in. Conference begins promptly at 8:00AM. No partial credit. You must arrive on time and stay all day to receive credit.

The focus of this year's conference is to learn how healthcare providers can plan, educate staff, and evaluate their preparation for responding to and recovering from hurricanes.

Areas to be covered include Tampa Bay Catastrophic Planning, Relationship of National Disaster Tracking to Local Hurricanes, Infrastructure Coordination During Recovery, AHCA Update, Patient Evacuations, Storm Hardened Buildings, and Lessons Learned from the Katrina Recovery.

There will also be a workshop with County Emergency Management, Hurricane Weather and “LESSONS LEARNED” OVER 25 YEARS IN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WITH LARRY GISPERT.

The cost has been kept to last year's amount of $59. This includes continental breakfast, lunch and break. CEUs will be awarded to nurses, NHAs, and various other specialties as shown on the flyer.

This year's conference will be held on June 17th from 7:30am to 4:30pm at the Life Enrichment Center at SPUMC, located at 1099 Highland Ave, Largo, FL, 33770.

Conference registration opens on March 31st, 2010, and can be accessed using the registration link above.

Continuing education for hospitals, assisted living facilities, home health, hospice, and other healthcare providers, including nurses, occupational/physical therapists, and social workers.

The conference awards 6 CEUs to ALF (58A-50191) Nurses, LCSW, LMFT,LMHC, PT/PTA (FPTA Approved), and OT/OTA. SPC is approved Florida CE Broker #2525. You must attend the entire session. No partial CE awarded.
