For a few years now I have been thinking of breaking out my blog into several blogs. Why do that you ask? Well, to target my topics in hope of gaining more reads. My more readers you ask. Why not I say? Let’s face it, my blog is all over the place in topics. Technology, gadgets, family, photography, videos, some humor, or anything I have to say. I can’t really get a stable hold on any one group of people. if you hit my blog for iPhone photos you most likely don’t want to hear anything about my wife’s sewing adventures. I don’t blame you.

With the recent release of My Fitness Challenge(which is going petty than expected) the diversification of my blog too its first step. It wasn’t really part of any plan. It just sort of happened and “workout” out well. Get it? Workout!? So you won’t see any workout, running, biking updates here any longer.

The next step is taking my iPhone photography off on its own. It is a topics, if there was one, that makes the most sense. iPhone video will also go with the photos. I had a little time this weekend so I started something last night. I registered Husarography.com and put up a quick WordPress site and new theme that I really like. The site will focus just on iPhone photography and video with maybe some iPhone apps reviews in for good measure. In my testing last night I put up a few of my favorite iPhone photos that I really like. So far so good, you can expect the iPhone photography updates here to start to drop off here at The House of Husar.

I hope to see all of you interested in photography over at Husarography.com.

Been so busy I never mentioned that I broke my front screen to my iPhone 4 on vacation in CO. As I am sure you can imagine I was devastated. That is not exaggeration either. Well last week I just couldn’t take it any longer and broke down and bought a new screen. I was determined to DYI the work. Parts cost with $164 with two tools I needed. Three hours later I have a new screen in the phone. You don’t even want to know how many screws I have to take out and put back in. I ended up recording the entire thing and streamed it live on Ustream. The recording is below. It is not very entertaining and took me just shy of three hours. I could do it again in about an hour I think. You have to gut the phone to get to the screen. Not fun!

I have been crazy busy lately as you can tell from my lack of posting. But I have been posting a lot over on the My Fitness Challenge site I developed. I have to say I am pumped after watching the Apple keynote today. Highlights and thoughts for me include the following.

iPod Touch – camera on the Touch is bloody brilliant. Many of you have liked all the cool photo app and things I do on my iPhone 4. Now you can do the same things without a cell contract required for an iPhone. This really is huge. Front and back cameras so you can do Facetime with both the iPhone and other iTouch owners. I love it! You can shoot video and edit just like other do on their IPhone 4. In case you missed it, no AT&T contract. Did I mention that already? I did not hear Steve say anything about GPS on the iTouch so that is the only thing you will miss out on over an iPhone 4. What are you waiting for? Go but one now!

I won’t buy one but the new Nano is very, very cool. Square, thin, full screen, and clipable. Nice!

Updates to iTunes are great. The updates have been needed for a while now. But the biggest deal is the new Ping features in iTunes. Social network for music. I am such a music head that this is pretty exciting for me. Even if you don’t buy from the iTunes store you need to use iTunes for Ping! I can follow you and you can follow me. You can find people on Ping. I love this! Facebook and Twitter for music without all the other BS you get with other social media sites. I am really looking forward to Ping in iTunes. There are 160 million iTunes users that will be on Ping if they sign up. Incredible!

Apple TV. I am on the fence on this one. HD addition is very cool. The fact that Apple has not create just another computer was a great move. It is not a hard drive either. Heck there is not hard drive. Holy crap is it small. A forth of the size of the first generation Apple TV. No power brick is nice, HDMI connection, wifi. You can’t really get much simpler. What I am not sure about is the rental thing. I am a pack rat when it comes to movies and music. Not sure I would buy into the renting idea. 720p HD movies are $4.99. A good thing I guess is movies are available the day then come out on DVD. HD TV Shows are .99 cents. That is not bad and they are commercial free. Not all studios are in on this. ABC and Fox are the only ones doing the .99 cent deal for shows right now. I am sure that will grow. Yes, it comes with Netflix. Nice! YouTube is covered, Flickr if you are a members. Streaming content on a computer is there as well. UI looks nice as well. But the rental thing just bugs me. I don’t see getting one. Plex is just too good running on my Mac Mini. I can see others liking the Apple TV that want a simple solution and don’t mind renting. But I have to say the really cool thing is streaming movies from any iOS device to an Apple TV or seeing photos from an iPhone to an Apple TV. The only thing that makes me think twice about getting one is the price. Only $99. It is almost worth picking one up just to play with and then put in the kids room.

Overall I am pretty impress with everything Apple announced today. The iOS is just turning out so cool. The future looks bright for Apple fans. I can see lots of people being converted in no time at all. Heck Scott may even being thinking twice about Apple now.

Oh Netflix how I love thee. At the house of Husar we use Netflix on the Wii, through the media center on my Mac Min, and now on our iPhones. We have 4 iPhones in the house. One iPhone 4, two 3gs and not 3g. Only three of the iPhones are activated. The fourth is used by my son. As long as he is on our wifi he can pretty much do everything. All the apps that I have bought also work on the non-activated iPhone. But now having Netflix I am sure the kids are going to give it a workout! One limitation I can see is the catalog only contains titles available for streaming. Now way to manage your que. Maybe next version?

I have to say that Netflix on the iPhone is pretty awesome. Sitting at work I fired up a movie over 3G and it worked great! Very cool.

I have been thinking about building a blog just for fitness updates for some time. To take it one step further my idea was to make it a social blog with more than just me blogging and tracking my fitness goals. I am happy to say that the site is up and rolling along at full speed. This is the reason I have not been blogging much here lately. I have been busy, head down, writing a bunch of custom WordPress plugins to make my idea work how I want. Other than some layout things I am still working no I am very happy with the results so far.

I have a handful of friends posting their fitness activities and challenges. The idea is pretty simple. You post your updates, create fitness challenges for yourself, and track your weight if you like. Everyone that joins is essentially a guest blogger by posting their fitness activities. I have built in a pretty robust tracking system to show your progress to visitors that graphs just about everything. The site even keeps running records for 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon.

In addition there is a stats page that shows global results of all members. The tracking and graphing really motivates me to keep running. Here is my fitness dashboard. All members get a dedicated dashboard to view and show their progress.

I would love to have more people willing to post their fitness updates and personal challenges. If you are interested I encourage you to visit My Fitness Challenge. If you are interested in join the site go a head and sign up. I will approve your account and you can start posting your workouts.

The other project is a purse for her mother’s birthday. It is the purple one with the flower on it. The photo that is hard to figure out what is of is the inside of the purse.
This is pretty interesting if not for no other reason than to see the setup that Peter Belanger created to capture the shot. Some are saying technical overkill. I have not see a paper copy of the cover yet but he sure when through a lot of setup to get the shot. I will have to go down to the local magazine store and make sure to see if it is really up to par. I myself, just love the iPhone 4′s new camera. There are so many cool and useful apps being released for the new camera my wife has pretty much cut me off from buying any new one for a while.

Make sure you check out Peter Belanger site and look at the setup. You will like it ever if you are not an iPHone fan boy like me. Stop by and tell me what you think. Technical overkill or necessary to get the right shot?

On our last CO vacation Noah and I tried to get up to Bison Peak. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not cooperating. After seeing the GPS track I am grad we turned back when we did. We were a good ways from the peak and we were about to hit the steepest elevation gains of the hike. This is going to be a hike that we attempt again for sure. The peak is just incredible with the rock formations. They say there is nothing like it in the entire state of CO. Make me sad that we did not reach it this time. But that is just another reason to head back to CO for another attempt.

Don’t forget when you roll our cursor over the map there are photo and elevation links at the bottom of the map.
