Kochi, Oct 2 : Australia beat India by 84 runs in the second ODI of the seven-match series played here today.

Chasing a target of 307 runs set by Australia, India was all out for 222 runs with more than two overs to go.

India lost its first four wickets in quick succession and before the end of first fifteen overs, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa were back to pavilion scoring 7,16, 10 and 41 runs respectively.

After Hogg dismissed Dravid, Indian went for a toss with skipper M S Dhoni trying his best to salvage his team. Dhoni made 58 and was the last one to go.

From the Australian side, Hogg was the highest wicket taker. He took three crucial wickets of Dravid, Yuvraj and Dhoni.

Stuart Clark and Michael Clarke shared two wickets each, while Bret Lee was the most uneconomical bowler with his economy crossing 6 runs per over.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first, which many termed as a bad decision.

Though Adam Gilchrist was dismissed in the first over by Zaheer Khan, Australia recovered from its early loss with Matthew Hayden scoring 75 runs. However, it was the partnership of Andrew Symonds and Man of the Match trophy winner, Brad Haddin, that helped Aussie to score a formidable score of 306 runs.

From Indian side, S Sreesanth picked up three wickets followed by Irfan Pathan with two wickets and Zaheer Khan with one wicket.

“Their (India’s) captain said after Bangalore that it seems to have been a bit of a trend for them to let teams off a little bit. But I’m not saying it was their bad bowling. I prefer to think it was our good batsmanship,” said Gilchrist after winning the match.

Australia leads the series 1-0.

Hyderabad, Oct 2 - The diehard cricket fans have been disappointed as few tickets were sold to the general public for fourth India-Australia one-day international to be played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here Friday.

Thousands of fans, some from far-off districts, returned disappointed as the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) sold only a few hundred out of nearly 40,000 tickets to the public.

Though the HCA declared that 15,000 tickets would be sold through four branches of the UCO bank, only a few hundred were actually available. The tickets were sold out within two hours of the bank counters opening Monday, yet nobody was able to confirm the number of tickets sold through these.

The average fans’ hopes of watching the clash of two champion teams were hit for a six by HCA authorities, who declined to give any figures about the number of tickets sold to the public.

At the Malakpet branch of the UCO Bank hardly 200 tickets, priced at Rs.250 and Rs.1000, were available. Tickets priced at Rs.2000, Rs.3000, Rs.5000 and Rs.10,000 were not even sold at these counters.

The fans alleged that HCA authorities were selling tickets in the black market to make a quick buck.

‘When the stadium has a seating capacity of 40,000, how can they sell only a few hundred tickets? Where are the rest of the tickets? The HCA owes an explanation to people,’ said Ravinder Reddy, a 12th class student who was waiting in the queue since 7 am but had to return home disappointed.

Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Nageshwar Rao too joined the angry fans in voicing his protest over the alleged black marketing of tickets.

‘Instead of selling tickets to people, they (HCA) are black-marketing these,’ said the MLC and demanded a probe into the issue.

The HCA officials have issued 11,000 complimentary passes to VIPs like ministers, legislators, IAS and IPS officers, HCA office-bearers, and former and current Ranji Trophy players.

Though media persons also fall in this category, only a few have been issued the passes.

The bulk of the tickets were set aside for corporate houses, which get the stands named after themselves by signing lucrative deals with the HCA.

The CM inaugurated the Nalgonda crossroads flyover and a couple of parks at Saroornagar and the Rajiv Gandhi park at Vanasthalipuram on Sunday. “The government will ensure all localities in the twin cities get minimum four-hour water supply every day,” he announced, while addressing people at the inaugural functions.

The Nalgonda crossroads flyover was built at a cost of Rs 11 crore. Mild tension prevailed at the inaugural as Congress leaders who gathered in large numbers tried to enter the premises and police had to use mild force to control them. At one stage, the situation turned tense as police caned the onlookers who gathered on the busy main road.

He said the government was spending Rs 26,000 crore on several infrastructure projects like the Metro Railway Transport System (MRTS), Outer Ring Road (ORR), the elevated PV Expressway and flyovers.

The park at Vanasthalipuram, spread over 5.5 acre and set up at a cost of Rs 1.9 crore, has an ornamented landscape with lawn and paved pathways for walkers. The Saroornagar park, built on the lines of a park in Paris at a cost of Rs 10 crore, has a friendship tower, laughing teddy bear, pathways, an educational centre and a play area for children besides a boating facility.

The Saroornagar park was funded under the Green Hyderabad Environment Project by the Netherlands government.

Sensing a mid-term election in the air, the scheme is likely to be implemented as early as November itself.

The issue figured at the cabinet meeting held here on Monday. Briefing the media later, information minister A Ramnarayana Reddy said the cabinet discussed the issue at length. Finance minister K Rosaiah is said to have explained the economics of the scheme and said that it would put an additional burden of over Rs 1,000 crore on the exchequer and that it will have to find ways and means to meet the additional expenditure.

The subsidies on rice currently stand at Rs 1913 crore per annum and once the Rs 2-a-kilo rice scheme is implemented, the subsidies will touch Rs 3,000 crore per annum. Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy is learnt to have said that keeping in view the political developments and the importance of such a scheme in terms of electoral returns, some way can be found to meet the additional funding of the scheme. The chief minister has reportedly directed the civil supplies department to work out the modalities of how to implement the scheme.

There are about 2.24 crore white card holders in the state. Of this, 1.82 crore have been given white ration cards so far and to begin with, the government plans to implement the new rice scheme for these BPL families.

One of its first priorities has been the temple town of Tirupati.

The Lord of Seven Hills will soon have a dedicated police force with a separate police superintendent, to ensure safety in the temple town.

The move comes even as intelligence reports have been warning of possible terror strikes in the state and Tirupati has always been high on the target list.

Along with Tirupati, Warangal, Guntur and Rajahmundry have been declared urban districts and will each get exclusive police force.

The police reinforcements will be in addition to a 1600-member Anti-terrorist squad ‘Octopus’, that was announced after the twin blasts in Hyderabad.

The specialised force is expected to be operational by the year end.

HYDERABAD: Pista House, a wellknown eatery here, is all set to patent Hyderabadi haleem — a niche delicacy brought to the Indian subcontinent by Muslim immigrants from Persia and given a Hyderabadi touch.

“The high-calorie dish is a huge draw among NRIs in the Middle East and several other countries with a huge Muslim population. Demand far outstrips supplies in these regions. We want to leverage on our brand and patent Pista House’s haleem,” said Majeed, proprietor of Pista House.

Haleem is a semi-hot liquid made of wheat, meat, lentils and spices and relished in this part of the world during the holy month of Ramzan. There’s also a vegetarian version of haleem, with dry fruits and vegetables instead of meat. Traditionally, haleem was made by unorganised eateries. Over the last couple of years, the market for this dish has grown and lured many organised restaurants to jump onto the bandwagon.

Food chains such as Pista House, Paradise, Nayaab and Madina in Hyderabad now serve haleem. The domestic market for this dish is around Rs 100 crore. There’s huge demand for the delicacy in the Arab world, all South-east Asian nations and even in the US and UK. Pista House, for instance, recently tied up with Hyderabad-based logistics company Gati to market haleem in India and abroad.

Priced at Rs 335 per kg ($9) in India, the customised airtight haleem package tins of Pista House give the product a 15-day shelf life. Gati will start exporting Pista House’s haleem in a week’s time. The order book for the product is automated through Gati’s website. According to sources, Pista House is negotiating with some investors to expand business abroad.

Although Pista House made an attempt to export haleem last year, it could not succeed as airlines had problems transporting liquid ingredients, particularly after the terrorist attacks. But this year, the tie-up with Gati will enable Pista House to take haleem beyond the Indian shores. “Gati’s tie-up with DHL, Aramex and TNT networks enables us to transport haleem across countries,” Gati marketing manager Venkat said. Several Hyderabad haleem food outlets have also outsourced their cooks to the Middle East and South Asian countries .

Pista House was the first one to chalk out plans to expand its outlets to countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Hong Kong. It had earlier roped in the postal department to distribute haleem through its service in the state. There are over 1,000 haleem outlets operating in Hyderabad . Nearly 100 of them sell more than 3,000 plates a day. While most of the outlets limit haleem to Ramzan season, some restaurants prepare it throughout the year.
