Hampi Express collides with goods train; 15 dead, 70 injured

Fifteen persons were killed and 70 others injured today when the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express overshot a signal and collided with a stationary goods train at Andhra Pradesh's Penneconda station. "Fifteen persons have died in the accident and 70 others injured when the train, going from Hubli to Bangalore, collided with a goods train at Penneconda station at around 3.15 AM," a Railway Spokesperson said. Three bogies, one SLR and two ordinary second class coaches, were derailed due to the impact of the collision. One of the coaches also caught fire. The fire has been brought under control and rescue and relief operations were going on, he said. Railway Minister Mukul Roy, who was in Kolkata, rushed to the site of the accident and ordered an inquiry into it. Commissioner Railway Safety (Southern Circle), S K Mittal will conduct a statutory inquiry and has been asked to submit a report at the earliest. Roy also announced a compensation of Rs five lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs one lakh for those who sustained grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 to those who received minor injuries. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. "The reason of the accident is yet to be ascertained but prima facie it seems that the driver of the Hampi Express overshot the signal," the spokesperson said, adding senior railway officials have rushed to the spot. Chairman Railway Board, Vinay Mittal, who was on a tour to Allahabad has cut short his visit and rushed to the accident site. Also, Railway Board Members (Traffic), K K Srivastava, and (Mechanical) Keshav Chandra have left for the spot. Railways has set up helplines at Bangalore City, Bellary, Hospet and Hubli. Way back in 2004, actress Preeti Jain had lodged a complaint that Madhur Bhandarkar has raped her several times by promising a lead role in his movies. Though the director made sensational movies like Chandini Bar, Page3 and Fashion, Preeti was never a part of them. While the Apex Court was hearing the case in 2005, Preeti made a murder attempt on Madhur through contract killers.

In 2006, Police requested Court to dismiss case against Madhur, as Preeti's allegations are found false, but it took Courts all these years to relieve him. A delighted Madhur states, 'Eight years of my life has been ruined due to this false case. I thank my friends and family for their support always'. It is one of those many secrets that may have stayed buried. Till of course we got wind of it. Not many know of the internal dynamics that happened during the casting of Aditya Chopra's Dhoom-3 and Karan Johar's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone were both in close contention for both projects. A trade source says, "Kat is very friendly with Ranbir and Ayan Mukerji (director of YJHD) and was keen to team up with RK Jr in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. It would have been her third film with Ranbir - the first two Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Raajneeti - being huge hits.''

Deepika in the meantime was a strong contender for Dhoom-3. Sources confirm that when Kat hesitated about wearing a bikini for the action-thriller; Deepika was next in line for the Chopras. The action role of Dhoom-3 suited Deepika who is athletic as well as glamourous.

Things even to an extent where Kat had started working on her diction for YJHD and chatted animatedly with Ayan about her part in the love story opposite Ranbir.

Charan's unfortunate leg injury has put a big question mark hanging over Racha release date. The film was expected to release by this month end, but Charan's injury is turning out to be biggest hurdle for Racha. Even if Charan recovers in two weeks from now, Racha won't make it to theatres as per the schedule.

By all possible chances, Racha release will be pushed to April end or May. So, Racha loses the advantage of being the first biggest release for this summer. With Racha moving out of the way and Rajamouli's Eega too being delayed in the post production stage, Jr. NTR's Dammu will be the first biggest release for this summer.

Dammu will now hurry to make it to the theaters by April 19. So, NTR Jr. would have the advantage of having the first anticipated release for this summer. If the producer plans a wide release, Dammu will have more chances to create new record in openings by beating Businessman.

Will Racha be another Shakti?

Ram Charan's Racha is in plans to have a huge release in Telugu as well as Tamil and Malayalam. The film will release big in Karnataka too. Charan is planning to conquer entire south India with this movie. However, after looking at the trailers and listening to the songs, analysts opine that this film is not a right movie to set foot in other languages.

Racha looks like a routine commercial potboiler with tons of masala which would lure the masses as well as mega fans. Films like these don't survive at the Tamil box office, especially with a non local hero. NTR Jr. did the same mistake for Shakti by releasing it in Tamil and Malayalam. The film bombed in both the languages due to poor script.

Racha too has a routine story which is targeted at Mega fans and mass audience over here. Films like these will need a big star to pull it off in any language. So, a non local hero can't impress other language audience, with mediocre scripts. Same is the case with Tamil potboilers in Telugu. Except for very few films, none of those mass masala movies worked here. All in all seems like Charan chose the wrong movie to fulfill his long lasting dream.

The clock is ticking for Junior NTR to arrive with his new movie ‘Dammu’ and it is heard that the audio release has been scheduled for March 24th and the venue has been decided as Shilpa Kala Vedika. On the other hand, the makers are looking at the month of April for the film’s release.

While that is one side, sources say NTR would be seen in a dual role and there is also a flashback episode wherein the powerful NTR would come forth. Going by the information, it appears that ‘Dammu’ has a similar formula of ‘Simha’. The fact that it is directed by Boyapati Sreenu adds more credibility.

The music is by M M Keeravani and the audio is being released through Vel Records. The shooting is currently happening at Ramoji Film City and everything is on schedule. This is being produced by Alexander Vallabha. While the speculations are on, only the film’s release will give the true picture.
