Most brands celebrate fifty years with a limited edition logo or a documentary. Halti built a parka instead.

The 1976 Down Parka marks the fiftieth anniversary of a brand that started in the Finnish north with one mission. To create gear that lets people actually go out there. It brings warmth and loft without compromising the planet. The north teaches you to respect nature and this choice shows Halti still takes that lesson seriously.

The 1976 Down Parka includes all the smart touches that Finnish design is known for. Intuitive adjustments on the hood, waist and cuffs. Practical pockets. A detachable faux fur trim. The event pulled a diverse crowd of Berlin locals, streetwear enthusiasts, foodies, and creatives. Live DJ sets kept the energy high, and the open-air setting, complete with picnic benches and graffiti backdrops, made for the perfect casual hangout.

Dickies x Goldies came through with a mini capsule collection that nailed the workwear aesthetic—custom aprons, heavyweight tees, and clean, functional staples. It was workwear with flavor.

The crowd was a true mix—people from all backgrounds came together, connecting over good food, good music, and a shared appreciation for culture and craft.

Born in 1948 and raised in Oulu and Iisalmi, his love for racing started with his dad’s karting hobby and led him to the global stage.

Earlier this year, Polestar invited Team Hypend to the Finnish launch of their newest and baddest car yet - the Polestar 4. Continuing our adventures with the Polestar 4, our friends at Polestar were kind enough to lend the car for us for a few days last week while cruising the busy streets of Helsinki and visiting our favorite spots around city. From early morning tennis sessions to prepping for our Winter Popup Sale, our day with Polestar 4 exemplified how seamlessly this electric powerhouse integrates into the Helsinki lifestyle.

Our day began at the Polestar Helsinki Showroom in Herttoniemi as we picked up the Polestar 4. Designed with respect to the Scandinavian minimalistic standards and latest cutting-edge technology, the sleek SUV Coupé immediately set the tone for an active day around the city.

Our first stop? A morning tennis match to start the day right.

We loaded our tennis gear into the spacious trunk and the Google-powered infotainment system and the large 15.4-inch horizontal touchscreen display made it easy to navigate to our destination through the busy streets of Helsinki. 

After a few hours sweating on the court, we zipped off to a nearby lunch spot for a quick snack. The Polestar 4’s ultra-quiet cabin together with the Harman Kardon premium sound system with 1,320 watts of power and 16 speakers that allow to choose between different surround configuration levels made for a perfect post-game drive.

While the heated seats with massage-functionalities ensured we stayed warm in the crisp December air, the Polestar 4 also let us to control the car’s ambiance and interior LED lightning by swiping between a number of solar system-inspired planetary themes, such as Mars for red and Earth for blue, on the centre console.

Polestar has opted to remove the rear window completely and added a rear-facing HD camera with a high-resolution rearview display in its place to enhance the interior space. The rearview display doubles as a regular rearview mirror, making it possible to switch between the live feed and a view of the passengers.

It is functions and design decisions like this that enable the Polestar 4 to combine the aerodynamics of a sporty coupé with the roominess and comforts of a SUV. 

Moreover, the Polestar 4’s sharp lines, large panoramic glass roof, and sleek design result in a timeless profile that is sure to turn heads in the streets. Boasting a 102 kWh battery and a dual-motor setup, this car isn’t just about good looks - it offers nearly 600 kilometers of range on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds. In fact, the well-balanced and highly responsive Polestar 4 is the quickest production Polestar to date. And we dig it. 

Next, we headed to Kallio to visit our friends at AIDA Impact to visit their brand-new Kallio store and to pick up all varieties of our Aida Impact x Hypend Lucky Clover collaboration items for our Winter Popups Sale. And from Kallio, it was off to Katajanokka and Lauttasaari to visit our warehouse and printing studios because no Hypend event is complete without a carefully curated lineup of merch and hypend-designed posters elevating the vibe. With the car’s spacious trunk fully loaded up after stacking up on t-shirts, varsity jackets, and other essentials from our warehouse, the Polestar 4 once again proved its versatility, transitioning seamlessly from a sleek inner-city cruiser to a practical and cargo-friendly EV.

As we finally arrived to Punavuori and in front of our popup space, unloading all the gear we had collected during the day was truly effortless, thanks to the hands-free tailgate and central locking system.

Their success, luxurious lifestyles, and the matching Lamborghini Diablos they bought for 900,000€ brought a lot of fame and media interviews in Finland - even the singer Frederik made a song about their shopping sprees called “Rytsölät Baanalla.”

However, as was the case with a lot of early internet companies when the dot-com bubble bursted between 2001 and 2002, the Jippii Group Oy’s value crashed down 90% in August 2001, and the brothers lost everything. Jaakko Rytsölä has said publicly that he lost over 8,5million euros over a single night and, at all time high, the value of his Jippii Group Oy stocks was around 15million euros. 

In March 2003, Jaakko was found financially broke and unable to pay his 1.3 million debt to the Finnish government and was sentenced to one year and six months probation for gross dishonesty of the debtor in the Helsinki district court.

At the end, the Rytsölä brothers forever changed both the car and entrepreneurship cultures of Finland.

We went to London to check out the unveiling of the new audio-only headphones: the Dyson OnTrac headphones. Offering best-in-class noise cancellation, these headphones deliver up to 55 hours of immersive listening.

When Filippa K Creative Director Liisa Kessler was approached for her role in 2021, she found inspiration both in the spirit of the brand’s early days in the 1990s and in the photographs of J.H. Engström’s earlier book From Back Home, which she picked up at Parisian bookstore. 

“There was a natural sensuality and a raw, youthful energy that wasn’t forced,” Kessler explains. “This unpolished approach is what interests me, connecting with the intimacy that’s at the soul of the brand, and of J.H.’s work.”

The house’s 30th anniversary was approaching, which led to conversations between Kessler and Engström about a collaborative project. 

“From Back Home is an attempt to approach my memories of my childhood, and it’s a statement in the present: the place I grew up in has shaped me and still shapes me,” Engström commented. “My conversations with Liisa about time, place, energies, and self-expression became the beginning of the joyful book collaboration I’ts Been 30 Years.” 

The photographer was given carte blanche to create something new that expressed both artists’ mutual reflections on their individual origins, and that encapsulated the feeling of Filippa K. The collaborative book marks the first time J.H. Engström has collaborated with a fashion house. It’s Been 30 Years debuts a series of never-before-seen images that showcase archival Filippa K items, taken by the photographer in Montreuil, France, his current residence. Selected by Kessler, the garments and accessories date back to the house’s founding year of 1993, showcasing the timeless appeal of its aesthetic. 

Rather than displayin the pieces in a subjective form on models, each still life treats them as historical objects - taking up space as their own representation of a moment in time. Interspersed with the new images are previously unpublished shots from Engström’s archives, taken during his time living among the natural landscapes of Värmland, Sweden. The book juxtaposes these two places- France & Sweden - that hold meaning for Kessler and Engström, while exploring the continuous search for and meaning of home.

During the last year, we joined forces with Saucony Originals to launch a community-driven series called Originals by Hypend - featuring some of the people that make Helsinki move. With each talent, we photographed them in their personal space of creativity and printed five superior-quality 70x100cm posters on paper canvases weighing over 300g each. As a homage to the nostalgic vibes of 90s skateboard magazines, we also published a brief Q&A interview with each talent in the Hypend Magazine on our website.

As you might have seen on our IG feed or in the Hypend Magazine, some of the talents included in the campaign were Punavuori’s own street food chef Tanako ‘Boom,’ the Helsinki-based DJ and radio host Lina Schiffer, the founder of Ottos’ Barbershop joint - Otto Kaipio - from Punavuori, and Man Yau - the very talented ceramic artist whose work has been showcased in the most prominent galleries locally and internationally.

Last but certainly not least, also included in the campaign was Kaarle Hurtig, who is a man with many hats, but lately, he has been best known around the city for his Youtube series called Keskusteluohjelma.

Outside of the Originals by Hypend campaign, we also did an additional photoshoot with the Helsinki-based stylist Antti Nguyen.

To celebrate the campaign, we invited some members of the Hypend community to party with us at our Showroom in Punavuori, Helsinki. The main idea behind the event was to showcase the five posters featuring the five remarkable talents who fuel the vibrant pulse of Helsinki and to honor the release of Saucony Originals’ new Program Omni 9 Silver in two colorways: Red & Blue.

Vincent Catani's journey from Finland to Copenhagen, and his collaboration with the finest eyewear craftsmen in Japan, exemplify his dedication to creating eyewear that transcends trends and becomes timeless. With the release of the "Collection ID," Catani's influence in the fashion world continues to grow, cementing his status as a visionary designer pushing boundaries and redefining style.

The sunglasses I design are to elevate your outfit and give it the perfect balance. The designs can be very bold, and stand out. Or it can be a great detail to your look. My intentions for this brand is to be able to produce great long lasting products both through function and design.

To commemorate 3 Kaveria's 10th anniversary, they have decided to organize a special event—a drive-in factory sale. We took our partnership to the next level by embarking on a fun-filled field trip with friends and fellow social media creators to explore the vibrant and nostalgic side of Itä-Helsinki. Together with 3 Kaveria, our day was filled with exciting activities, starting with a trip to Sugoi, a haven for vintage Japanese video game enthusiasts. We then made our way to the 3 Kaveria factory sale pop-up shop, where we discovered an array of mouthwatering ice cream flavors that delighted both our taste buds and our inner child.

Sugoi: Unleashing the Retro Gamer Within

Our first stop was Sugoi, located in Malmi. We were instantly transported back in time as we stepped into the arcade. The air buzzed with excitement as we surrounded ourselves with rows of classic Japanese video game machines, each radiating a nostalgic charm. With competitive spirits ignited, we battled it out in beloved titles like Pac-Man, Street Fighter, and the dance game that everyone played in the 90s. Laughter, cheers, and the clattering of arcade buttons filled the space, making Sugoi an unforgettable experience for any gaming enthusiast.

3 Kaveria: A Flavorsome Ice Cream Haven

After our dose of retro gaming, we headed to the much-anticipated 3 Kaveria factory sale pop-up shop. As we entered the cold but inviting factory space, we were greeted by the happy and smiling staff and a dazzling display of ice cream flavors. Our excitement grew as we browsed through the array of options, which included both beloved classics and intriguing new creations. (Unfortunately, due to the classified nature of the equipment used to craft some of the most innovative ice creams in the world, we don’t have photos from the factory but believe us: it was just as cool as one would expect an ice cream factory to be!)

The innovative offerings from 3 Kaveria pushed the boundaries of traditional ice cream flavors. Our taste buds were tantalized by the vibrant and refreshing strawberry-basil, the unique blend of licorice, and the delightful combination of strawberry and vanilla. We couldn't resist indulging in the decadent salt-fudge flavor, and the unexpected pairing of peanut and banana surprised us with its delightful fusion of sweet and nutty goodness.

Our field trip to Itä-Helsinki was a delightful and nostalgic adventure, made possible by the generosity of 3 Kaveria. Visiting Sugoi allowed us to relive the magic of vintage Japanese video games, while the 3 Kaveria factory sale pop-up shop offered an unforgettable ice cream experience that pleased both our taste buds and our inner child.

The combination of these two activities created a day filled with laughter, joy, and a sense of community. We were fortunate to document and share these unique experiences with our wider community, spreading the joy of exploration, nostalgia, and delicious indulgence.

In your own words, who are you and what do you do? 

I am Kaarle, a young man’s mind in a body that’s getting middle-aged. Problem solver and storyteller by profession, curious by hobby.

How did you begin your career?

I grew up with a brother and friends who were interested in visual things, photography, drawing, etc. Started as a school kid doing graphic design in the mid 90s on early interwebs and later art directing magazines. Skateboarding and culture work mostly. Then later I realized I was more tuned with the design part and less with the ‘graphic’. Went around agencies for a few years just to realize I didn’t align with the way the industry works, and started my own company more than 10 years ago. The company has made money by journalism for hire, photography work, and consulting. Consult comes from ‘con’ and ‘insult’.

Who or what inspires your work?

Usually, I get most excited when I see common things done in a new way, or a story told in a way I haven’t seen before. I just finished the Watchmen comic and was really inspired by the singular voice the team of Moore-Gibbons-Higgins had. Documentaristic photography, music that doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel but still creates new soundscapes (amapiano!), Wintergatan problem solving on Youtube, clothing repairs.

What’s your favorite form of art to express yourself? 

Speaking, I’m doing a talk show on Youtube. Also, photography.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your personal style?

I try to look for clothing that has been around in a similar style for a long time. Time-tested and proven basics. Repairs and second hand. Japanese workwear, IVY-styles, loose fits, and morals.

How would you describe your style? 

Valuable, not expensive. Style, not fashion. Timeless, not retro.

Favorite song and artist of all time?

Massive Attack – ‘Teardrop’.

Thoughts about Saucony?

The test of time is the ultimate test. And oh, it’s pronounced ‘sock a knee’.

Hypend classic: Best food joint in Helsinki?

Way Bakery for breakfast, Cafe Gastro Kallio for lunch, and The Bull & The Firm for dinner.

The fourth talent in the series highlights Man Yau, a very talented ceramic artist born and raised in Helsinki in the 90s. Her work has been showcased in the most prominent galleries locally and internationally - including a group exhibition at the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, California.

In your own words, who are you and what do you do? 

I’m Man, a Helsinki-based artist, spending most of my days with my hands dirty from different materials such as clay or metal dust - I work with installations and sculptures.

How did you begin as an artist?

The journey of becoming an artist was quite linear in the sense that I knew from a really young age that I wanted to work with my hands and do something creative. I started studying ceramics and glass blowing  at Aalto University when I had just turned 18, and now I’m just finalizing my second master’s degree from Uniarts. The shift from crafts(wo)man to contemporary art happened gradually too, each project started to become more conceptual rather than just haptical. I guess my first real-deal artwork was a film called Porcelain Decks, made in collab with Cocoa over a decade ago. 

Who or what inspires your work?

I get inspired by my surroundings, whether human-made physical spaces or social situations/interactions. I don’t have specific idols etc., but I follow closely the process of interesting artists such as Lap-See Lam and Candice Lin, curatorial practice by Nimco Kulmiye Hussein, or new - out of conventional institutional - spaces, for example just recently opened art space in Helsinki, Pitted Dates. Just to name a few things.

What’s your favorite form of art to express yourself? 

Sculpture, installations, three-dimensional forms. I wish I’d be a painter tho, with less stuff to store. 

Where do you draw inspiration from for your personal style? How would you describe your style? 

Quality & Practicality: when working I need to have safety gear, and when off-duty I want to look like I’m off-duty. It may be as my work requires such dirty and dusty workwear, I guess I need some elegance to balance that roughness.

Loved throwing clay with them hah!  <3 

Hypend classic: Best food joint in Helsinki?

For comfort food, Singapore Hot Wok does the job. And for special events w/ loved ones, I’d probably head to Sake Bar in Kruununhaka.
