Birth of the Dasher

Wow, what a whirl-wind Web Directions it was: Awesome people, awesome ideas, and most importantly - awesome shwag.

Web Directions is a conference about Web directions - so naturally it is bursting with new and fascinating ideas. Of course, the most revolutionary idea unleashed upon the eager attendees was to turn a tech logo into an embroidered patch to be sewn on to your favourite jacket or canvas school bag.

…And so it was that hyperdashery was born! Thanks to the vision of the Web Direction's crew, we were able to distribute the elegantly-stitched icons via the cool official Web Directions bag. Amongst the collection of trial-versions, pens, and stickers sat the inaugural (and beautiful) hyperdashery badge!

The embroidered masterpieces extracted many reactions from the punters: confusion, fear, understanding, and finally, childish giggling.

Although we would have liked to have a team of mums on-hand to stitch them on, the back-up plan of safety-pins and conference pass holders proved to be a success (and generated some interest from parties wanting to become hyperdashery badge #2!).

We've had a few post-event emails regarding the availability of the patches - but I'm afraid, as they say, you had to be there. Perhaps eBay?

They have arrived

The first ever hyperdashery badge is here and as I type it is been loving chucked in the Web Directions South schwag bags ready for you to feel in all it's glory tomorrow morning (bring along a safety pin for insant dasher fame). We are soo psyched about the badge that 'mr speaker' had this to say:

Went and helped pack some WD bags! wooot! Our badge is the best thing in them!

bon appetite!

Featured: Links for light reading

Today we have seen a massive increase in our sites traffic and a very WSG biased swing in our "next event" poll because we are the first link in today's Some links for light reading.

Welcome to all the Web Standards Group readers. We'll be talking to Russ soon to see how we can make a badge for the group (we're members too and would love to show it off).

Thanks for the link Russ we need all the promotion we can get!

Killer Startup

Wow, hyperdashery has been reviewed on KillerStartups which is interesting as we've never thought of ourselves as a "start-up". We're more about the love and the community than being a boot-straped startup trying to get VC and aiming for an "exit strategy".

All the same we thank Siri for the pretty positive review and hope there is more to come (it's nice [strange] been talked about by someone you've never meet).

Launch Badge - Web Directions

In a very quick time we have gone from concept to touchable, rubbable reality. We've teamed with what must be the biggest web industry event in Australia, Web Directions (south), to produce a a thing of rare and exquisite beauty as stated by event organiser, Maxine Sherrin.

As I type, five-hundred 4cm round cloth discs are been sewn with the south pointing Web Directions compass logo to be ready for the event in two weeks time.

We here at hyperdashery are very excited to be launching at this high quality event that is on every web geeks (and "not-so-geeks") calendar and hope to get a heap of feedback about the concept.

Badges 4 web geeks

Welcome to the new trend in geek apparel, embroidered badges! Yeah it may sound dorky but deep down most of us are dorks.

The idea is simple; much the same as you collect a stamp in your passport for each country you visit, which adds to your worldliness and general status, hyperdashery is collecting beautiful embroidered cloth badges which represent web events.

Get involved and get collecting!
