Our new guest writer Wendy Packer shares some insight into how Hypnosis can help improve your life in more ways than one!

Yips be gone, that’s right you have the power to be the self confident, motivated and focused golfer you truly want to be. Whether it’s on a public, private or tournament circuit course you can be the winner.

You have the control to change negative subconscious imprints that have affected your game. Everyone knows that golf is 80% mental so why settle for repeat patterns that hold you back. Move forward always acknowledging that each and every shot, swing and putt is your best ever. You can easily and effortlessly achieve your playing ability all with the power of your mind.

Train your brain using a natural, safe and effective modality. This modality will allow you to become ever present and in the moment making your game the best ever. Now I’ve got your attention haven’t I? Plus you will have the attention of all your competitors.

Hypnosis is your answer, that’s right. I know most people associate hypnosis with weight reduction, smoking cessation, sleep concerns, fears etc. But did you know that hypnosis is very effective for performance enhancement. Well I can tell you many golf pros use it each and every time they play.

Since all hypnosis is self hypnosis you will be able to get yourself in the zone for each and every shot. Just imagine the possibilities always being ever present in the now for every shot, being consistent, each and every time you look at the ball or take a deep breath.

I am here to assist you. As a registered nurse, certified consulting hypnotist who has helped countless individuals eliminate something from their life they no longer want or need along with creating behaviors which will enable one to achieve success. Hypnosis addresses the subconscious mind where all change happens and when the subconscious mind hears something over and over it believes that is the behavior you now want.

How great would it feel to have an improved golf mind? To play your best shot after shot and say to yourself, “This game is easy!” I can help you create a reliable mental attitude with confidence and consistency as you develop mental skills each and every time you step on the green.

You have choice whether to stay in a rut and become frustrated each and every time you play or you can choose to create focus and concentration making you the golfer that you’ve always dreamed about being and have fun at the same time. Think about it.

Always remember you are in the driver seat (no pun intended), you are in control of all your actions, your decisions reflect your outcome. So… why not create an opportunity to be the best golfer you can all with the power of your mind. Hypnotism is the well kept secret of many championship golfers including Tiger Woods need I say more.

I look forward to working with you and will give you exactly what you need to enhance your “Personal Best”.

By Doug McGannon Certified Sports Hypnotist, World-Class Martial Artist, and General Adrenaline Junkie

The field of Sports Hypnosis is an exciting field with virtually unlimited potential for both Hypnotists and their clients.

Many of the world’s top athletes attribute a key element of their success to the use of hypnosis in one form or the other. The range and types of sports, and the application of hypnosis at every level of each sport makes for an interesting and fresh plate of opportunities. If you are a Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist and would like to learn more about working with athletes, I invite you to join me at DougMcGannon.com or stay tuned in here at WhatsOnMyBrain.com for future articles and resources supporting the field of Sports Hypnosis.

If you are an athlete and looking to raise your game, hypnosis could be your edge. Whether an amateur looking for the next level of play or a professional looking for that “one thing” to take you above the rest of the competition, let’s talk. I am convinced the majority of your game is in your head, so to speak, and if the game in your head isn’t working, neither will your game on the court, on the field, in the pool, or on the mat…or wherever you compete. Just like with other areas of life, your clients (in this case, athletes) will experience a direct relationship between the success of the internal person and the success of the external person. Just the opposite will be true as well…internal chaos equals external chaos. This is very true in sports performance at all levels. Allow me to give you three elements to engage while working with athletes through hypnosis.

1. Championship Mentality – Each and every athlete is in the game to win! Plain and simple. One of the reasons why so many never make it “to the top” of their game is because they haven’t yet developed a Championship Mentality. We know from research that over 90% of daily thoughts are negative and heavily influenced by negative environments, people, and circumstances. Champions have learned to block or otherwise keep right on running through this 90%. Champions focus on the 10% of the positive, encouraging, enhancing, winning thoughts.

Even more, they have learned to reverse the percentages and begin to gradually increase the percent of “good” thoughts and lower the percentage of negative. Another element in Championship Mentality is the ability to focus on what the athlete wants to attain, instead of avoiding what they don’t want. Example: If your athlete is focused on “not losing” I can almost guarantee that individual is going to have a higher percentage of loss on their record. If, on the other hand, your athlete can learn to focus on “winning”, the chances of victory greatly increase, and over time their record shows up more in the “win” column.

All of this, of course, can be learned and programmed through hypnosis. With an internal Championship Mentality working for your athlete, an external series of successes in training and competition will begin to emerge as the norm, motivating the athlete to continue moving upward in their performance.

2. Healing – In order for athletes to perform at their peak, their bodies must heal properly and quickly. Much of this happens during two very critical time frames: directly following workouts, and during rest times (such as sleep, naps, and general “downtime” between training sessions). Muscle recovery is a constantly evolving and advancing science within the sports community. Hypnosis can help muscle recovery.

Hypnosis can assist in muscle building. Hypnosis can help injury healing. Hypnosis can provide a tremendous amount of support in the healing and recovery of the body. Hypnosis can assist the athlete in gaining higher levels of recuperative rest times. This is not just a pipe dream, but it is documented fact and backed up with a growing body of research.

As a hypnotist, you will need to be very aware of the use of proper terminology, ethics, and the law so you do not cross boundaries and claim to do things you cannot or by law are not permitted to attempt medically or therapeutically. Keeping this in mind, you can assist athletes in achieving peak performance in their bodies, and this, my friend, is a very big part of reaching new heights through training and competition.

3. Technique and Skill Set – The third area to focus on is perhaps the least critical, but as a hypnotist you will need to address this and be sensitive to your athlete in the area of his or her Technique and Skill Set. Become familiar with terminology your athlete uses in his or her training (and often times you will need to consult with their coach to discover more about this). Without becoming too specific, approach Technique and Skill Set from the standpoint of association.

Example: if your athlete needs to increase power or burst speed in running, associate this with something like “imagine a cheetah working seamlessly in both mind and body to engage every major muscle group and every set of twitch muscles necessary to maximize heightened levels of burst right from the start.” This is only an example. You can do better J. Use what your athlete gives you during your interview session, and generalize. Don’t go into too much specific detailing of techniques as the athlete will then begin to “get too much into his own head” and begin focusing on the wrong things again.

Remember, they train day in and day out with these techniques…they are automatic. Focusing on association and increasing performance with general suggestions will allow them to stop fretting over technical details of their performance (where they can be horrible critics) and begin focusing on powerful associations that maximize every moment of training and performance. You also want to use caution in this area due to the fact that you are not the coach. You are the hypnotist. Don’t cross lines…support the coach, but don’t attempt to be the coach through your sessions. Be who you are and realize higher success.

As always, a good pre-session interview will afford you all the necessary information needed to build a dynamic hypnosis session. Gather as much information as you feel you need and then some. Always good to have more than enough.

Working with athletes can be extremely rewarding. Their motivation and intention for achieving success in their sport is usually a very pure motivation which helps you in leading your athlete to championship levels with a greater success.

Have fun and enjoy working with these very dynamic and inspired individuals. Who knows, you may just find yourself out there competing yourself. After all, success is contagious!

Learn why Twitter is one of the most tools a Hypnotist can use to market themselves, their products & services. Twitter is an amazing way for you to reach hundreds without much work!

Hi Everyone,

As you can see I’ve been pretty busy with the blog lately and I got even more cool stuff planned. Btw, if you haven’t checked out the review of Sean Michael Andrews new project I recommend you give it a read through. You can find that review located by clicking the link below:

http://www.whatsonmybrain.com/hypnosis/the-dave-elman-induction-review/

For those of you who don’t know my background is actually in business, marketing, management and all that good stuff. I love being able to take the knowledge from those fields and apply them to my other love, which is hypnotism. I have always believed that the major downfall of our profession is the lack of hypnotists who understand business or marketing. For some reason many hypnotists have this image of money being bad. This mindset actually keeps them from being wealthy or successful. So many hypnotists just open the doors to their practice, but never stop and think about the following items:

Credibility and how everything we do impacts the way we people see us

Marketing and how to use that marketing in a credible and creative manner

Thinking outside the box

Using web 2.0/the internet to supercharge your business or practice and other such things…

The simple truth of the matter is if you can’t keep your doors open for business then you won’t be helping as many people as you could with your skills as a hypnotist. I see so much potential for our profession, but hypnotists need to change the way they view their business and how they view themselves. So over the next few weeks I’m going to be focuses a lot of the new blog posts on business and marketing and other creative ways to apply this knowledge to what we do as hypnotists. I want to give you the tools and the techniques to super charge your business in ways you never thought of.

So with all of that being said I hope truly serious hypnotists will take what I write in these following posts and apply them to their business. Here is a free tip for you. It’s called Speed of Implementation and what this means in simple language is how quickly you take what you have just learned and applied it to your business or whatever you’re working on.

Whenever you learn a new idea which you think will be useful ACT ON IT NOW! Don’t wait or sit around and think about it. Take that new idea or whatever it is and start to implement it ASAP. All successful people have this trait and I think it would serve you to remember that tip. Either way, let’s begins.

What Is Twitter?

So, I’m sure you heard about this social media giant called Twitter. Even if you don’t know about Twitter I’m sure you have heard something about it. It seems like everyone is using Twitter nowadays or talking about Twitter. If your one of those people into computers and the internet I’m sure you already have an idea of what Twitter is or you may have used it. If you’re not really into the whole web 2.0/internet thing then you may not know what Twitter is. Either way, I’m going to take a giant leap here and assume a good potion of my readers have heard about this powerful tool, but just aren’t sure exactly what it is and why it’s so powerful.

For those of you who don’t know Twitter is a website that allows people to micro blog about anything in their life. Micro-blogging is just like blogging, but you are limited to a certain number of characters per post. In the case of Twitter you are only allowed 140 characters. You can post as much as you want, but you have to fit what you want to say within 140 characters. I know, your thinking how can I express what I really want to say in only 140 characters? Trust me; I had the same problem when I started using Twitter. Micro-blogging makes it where you have to get really specific and clear about what you want to say.

It limits the conversation to the “real” meat in many ways. So now that you know what Micro-blogging is let’s continue. Twitter is considered a form of Social media, which I’m sure you heard before. Social media is another name for websites or tools that allow you to reach people in a social type of manner. Examples of social media would be Youtube, Facebook, Myspace, Bebo and a host of others. Smart marketers know how to leverage these tools to enhance their business and image. Eventually, you’ll be able to do that too with me help.

How Does Twitter Work

So Twitter is basically a social media tool which allows you to micro blog about anything you like. So how does this help me as a hypnotist or to promote my business? Okay, when you join Twitter you have the option to follow people.

Following just means you find what a person says interesting and you want to follow what they say. So let’s say you follow me on twitter. http://twitter.com/JoshuaHoughton

To do this, you would locate me on Twitter using the search feature or other tools which I will provide at the end of this guide. You can also click on links if a person uses one to link to their twitter account. They typically look like the one above. Once you locate me you would hit follow and then I’m adding to the people you follow. So what happens then is once you follow me you’ll be able to see every post I make on your home screen for Twitter. You can also choose to direct message me or reply to what I said. This is done in Twitter by using the @ symbol and then typing the persons name. Example: @JoshuaHoughton

You would then start typing your reply to that message after you put @JoshuaHoughton. So a full reply typed up would look like this: [@JoshuaHoughton Thanks for the post. Look forward to learning more.] You get the idea!

Most of the time if you follow people most people will follow you back. What this means is that they get notified when you follow them so then they end up following you as well. This means they can see what you have to say on their Twitter page. So do you follow me so far? Sorry for the bad joke Once you join Twitter your goal is to seek out people you find interesting to follow and in exchange people who find you interested will follow you in return. In a perfect world you want to have more people follow you, if you’re planning to use Twitter to help with marketing your business and your image.

Why Twitter Is So Powerful

So now that you know the basics let me show you why Twitter is so powerful. Let’s say you follow me and let’s say I have 500 people who follow me. Well, if you follow me and I choose to follow you then everything you say will show up on my twitter home page. The reason is because I followed you so it’s showing up on my page. So if you respond to something I say or I respond to something you say all the people who follow me will be able to click on that conversation and see what you have to say. It’s almost like a viral effect. This is called leveraging. You just followed one person, which was me, but in exchange 500 people may possibly be exposed to what you have to say. That is leveraging and marketing at its best.

So let’s take it a step further. Let’s say you wrote a really great article about Hypnotism on your blog or you ran across an interesting article on a blog and you want to share it with the people who are following you. You would tweet it, which just means you type it in the box and hit send as long as it’s 140 characters or less. When you do this everyone who follows you will see it. Now, let’s say I follow you and I receive the link to this really cool article on Hypnotism. Well, I may decide to retweet it which means I would let everyone who follows me know about the article. Then, let’s say someone who follows me likes it. They may decide to let people who follow them know about it. Before you know it thousands of people have seen what you have to say or whatever it is you choose to tweet about.

I like to think of it as a row of dominos. As one domino is knocked down it can affect a lot more dominos depending on where there placed. I remember one time on Twitter I posted an article I wrote and some people who followed me found it interested. Well, one of the people who followed me had a following of 300 people and so they posted it where all of them could see and so on and so on. Now, just because 600 or 900 people may follow someone and retweet what you have to say doesn’t mean everyone will follow you back, but the chances are really in your favor. I’ll talk more later about how to increase your tweeter conversion.

So this is why Twitter is such a powerful tool. Your words or what you have to say reach people in a way you never could. You’re able to possibly reach thousands of people in just seconds if done right. So let’s say you have created a new product or opened a new business, created a free hypnosis mp3 or e-book you want to share with people. Then you could use Twitter to spread the word. Now, I’m not saying you should just use Twitter to promote what you are doing as that could hurt you in time. There is a correct way to do it which I’ll get into in a moment.

Who Should I Follow?

Now, you’re asking me who should I follow? Well, you should follow people you find interesting or what they have to say interesting. People who tweet stuff you can use or what to know more about! For instance, I’m into business, marketing and hypnosis so I locate people interested in the same stuff I am and follow them. You always hope the person follows you back, but that isn’t always the case. You can find people with like interest using many different tools. One way is to look at the person’s profile. Twitter allows every user to create a profile which let’s you tell people a little about you and a link to your website. Mine mentions I’m a hypnotist and links back to this blog. So anyone who would happen to run across my profile can read it and see if I’m into the same stuff them as them. Heck, just the fact that you can place your website on a site that has millions of users is powerful!

Twitter also has other tools available such as a search feature to locate people. You can even locate people from Facebook, blogs and websites. For example, on my homepage for this blog I have to the right of the screen a box that says subscribe to whatsonmybrain.com and if you look down you’ll see line that says “Follow me on Twitter” which will take you to my profile when clicked. Tons of other people do this as well. So if you’re into the hypnosis world check out some hypnosis blogs or websites and I’m sure you’ll find some people you know or what to know on Twitter. Another good one to locate people is to look through my list of people following me. That is a great way to find people to follow. You have to figure that the majority of people following me find hypnosis interesting in some type of way so it’s a good chance you’ll find some people to follow.

I use a service that is located off of Twitter to find people with similar interest and that site is listed below:

Twellow.com – A search directory & yellow pages for Twitter

This is one of the best resources to locate people in my opinion. If you were interested in Hypnosis you would type the keyword hypnosis in and then it would send you back results for everyone on Twitter who has the word “hypnosis” in their profile or in their tweets. As I mentioned earlier you get to have a small profile where you can tell a little about yourself and a link to a website or two. So I may look at a few of the people the results shoot back and read some of their tweets. If I find them interesting then I’ll follow them. I tend to use twitter for both networking and business so I follow people in the hypnotism field so I can help spread word about my blog and also network with other like minded people. I kill two birds with one stone (I would never kill a bird in real life)

What Should I Say On Twitter?

Well, that is really up to you isn’t it? Think of Twitter as an online party with tons of different conversations going on. Some people are talking about their professions and some people are talking about their day or a new girl they met or whatever is going on in their life. Some people post links to interesting articles so it can be shared with others. Some people post information about their business. Some people promote their websites or services. (hint, hint) It’s really up to you.

Me, I like to post about what’s new in my profession, my life, my business, projects I’m working on and a lot more. Sometimes if I run across a great article I’ll post it for everyone else to read. If I create a really good blog post or review I’ll post it to get more traffic. I try to provide VALUE to the people who follow me. If I want to become more known in a certain niche or market then I use it to network. Since my goal is to spread the word about this blog I will use Twitter to drive people here to learn more about me, what I do, my services and etc. So see, if you’re a smart hypnotist you’ll find a way to use twitter to enhance your business or image. Once again, think of Twitter as a party and eventually when you get to know people well you can invite them to your home, which is your blog or website where they can learn even more about you.

The Proper Way To Use Twitter

Now, one of the quickest ways to lose followers or not gain any followers is to constantly talk about yourself or spam people with links that are all about you. Remember I said earlier that Twitter is a form of social media. Twitter is about people at the core and you need to learn to connect with people. While you may use Twitter for networking or business remember that at the end of the day it’s about connecting with other people who have similar interest or you find interesting.

Remember, I like to think of Twitter as a party. No one likes the person at the party who only talks about himself. The most popular person at most parties is the person who is involved with other people, smiling, having fun, cracking jokes, asking other people how things went and every once in a while talking about themselves. If I do offer a product or something for free like an mp3 or blog post I make sure it provide values. I also don’t keep posting it over and over so more people can see it. That will leave a bad taste in the mouths of others. Just remember at the core of Twitter is people. I’m not saying you shouldn’t promote products, business or whatever, but just use common sense with how you put yourself out there.

Don’t Feel Overwhelmed

I know this may seem like a lot to take it, but take it one step at a time. Join Twitter and if you want to get started follow me by clicking the following link.

http://twitter.com/JoshuaHoughton

Spend some time checking out the site, mess with different things and check out the resources I’m going to provide you below. If you have questions post them in the comment below and I’ll help you out the best I can. We live in a time where technology is king and while you don’t need to be an expert at it you should at least know how to use certain tools to grow your business. I have received 7 new clients over the last 5 months just from Twitter! Now that is powerful marketing as it was completely free to get these leads.

Below I have included some free resources for all of you to check out. If you guys like this type of post let me know and I’ll make a video showing you how to use twitter, but only if I receive good feedback.

UPDATE: If you are a Twitter user and a Hypnotist then please post your twitter address or username in the comment area for this post! This way we can start to build a collection of Twitter addresses for people to follow which would be a great addition to this post. I also always follow back so feel free to add me. Thanks Ed for the great comment and the addition resource as well.

The newest DVD from Sean Michael Andrews takes you into the mind and life of one of the greatest hypnotists who ever lived, Dave Elman. Sean interviews Elman's son to get a personal look into the life of Dave Elman.

Introduction

A few weeks ago I sent a message out to my Hypnosis Elite Newsletter letting them know that Sean Michael Andrews had a new top secret project in the works. While I wasn’t allowed to let my newsletter group know what the project was about Sean did allow me to tell them that something was in the works.

He also told me that the moment the top secret project was completed he would send me a copy so I could check out and review for all of you. Isn’t Sean the greatest? Now, I already knew what the project was ahead of time, but I wasn’t allowed to let anyone else know. So I opened the box when it arrived which contained the newest project from Sean Michael Andrews.

The newest project from Sean Michael Andrews is called The Dave Elman Induction!

The Dave Elman Induction

Okay, I know what you’re thinking right now. Your thinking you already know the Dave Elman Induction as you learned it in class and you may have even read the book by Dave Elman entitled Hypnotherapy. Personally, I hope every one of my readers has read that book and if not, please do as it’s a classic.

So, I don’t know how well I read your mind, but if you were thinking any of the items above then you’re completely WRONG! Beside Sean breaking down the Elman Induction step by step in a classroom setting and also showing you real life examples with REAL CLIENTS.

The second disc contains a rare, up close and personal video interview with the only living son of Dave Elman named H.L. Elman. This interview makes this product worth the cost just by it’s self. As far as I know, and I could be wrong. Dave Elman’s son has never done a video interview. If I’m wrong please correct me as I would love to get my hands on that as well.

If you’re a hypnosis history buff or just interested in mastering the most powerful rapid induction in my opinion then keep reading on. Well, let’s get into the actually review and see what Sean Michael Andrews has done with this project. Sorry if it’s a little long, but I like to give you guys all the info I can.

The Dave Elman Induction Disc One Review

As I mentioned the Dave Elman Induction is a 2 disc project consisting of the first disc which is a look into the Elman induction, how to do it and how to troubleshoot the induction. One of the biggest issues with Hypnosis projects on DVD is the lack of video quality. Hell, to be honest even my upcoming project with fellow hypnotist Taylor Sherman could look a lot better. Either way Sean has truly raised the bar with the quality of this DVD and when I mean quality. I mean picture and editing.

DVD 1 starts off with Sean Michael Andrews addresses us the watches from somewhere in Maryland I assume from the background. It’s a great scene as wherever he’s at has a lot of water, boats and others things going on in the background which add to the quality of the DVD. You feel as if your watching a movie the way Sean comes on to the screen and the camera is moving with him. The quality is top notch and the editing well done. After Sean addresses us the actual content begins. DVD 1 appears to be a collection of different workshops and events that Sean has put on over time dealing with the Elman induction. The first segment goes into the back story of Elman.

If you are completely new to Elman then this is a good starting point. Sean doesn’t give you every single detail, but he sums of Dave Elman and what he has done for our profession quite well. You learn how Elman got started in hypnosis, how he created the Elman Induction and what’s really cool is you get access to some really rare photos of Elman. I’m really into photos and it was pretty cool to see photos of Elman that I haven’t seen anywhere else. You also learn about the so called hypnosis war against fellow hypnotist Milton Erickson who was against Elman and would have liked to see him out of business. You’ll have to watch the DVDs to learn why Milton didn’t like Elman.

What Does Sean Cover in Disc 1?

Around this point of the DVD Sean begins to go over the Elman Induction and breaks down the different sections and steps to the Elman. Sean covers lots of content on this part. Here are just a few of the things Sean talks about on Disc 1.

The Pre-Talk

Permission to Touch

How to use instant inductions along with the elman

Eye Closure

The “real” Elman induction which is only 1 to 2 min long

Somnambulism and how to know when you got it and when you don’t

Forgetting the numbers

How to do a modified version of the Elman

How to turn the Elman Induction into a group Induction & a lot more.

One of the best features of this DVD is that Sean gives lots of examples. As I mentioned earlier the DVD is always cutting to different footage of Sean working with clients. He uses real life footage for each part he talks about. The part which I think most people will find of value is the troubleshooting section. A lot of hypnotists new and old tend to have issues with this induction sometimes. Sean shows you exactly how to avoid them and if they do happen. He shows you how to handle them and to me that is the most value as that is the type of stuff I can start using in a hypnosis practice or with my clients.

So all in all discs one will teach you the Elman Induction, break it down into workable steps, teach you tricks and tips and how to troubleshoot this induction. As a bonus Sean has also included the Dave Elman induction with this 2 disc set. The Induction can be found on the insert when you open the first disc. Oh, before we move on to disc 2 Sean also goes over a few unknown details about Elman’s life as well which I think you will quite interesting.

The Dave Elman Induction Disc 2 Review: Interview with Dave Elman’s Son

Disc 2 of this 2 disc set is the one I was really waiting for. While I don’t like titles most people would label me as an Elmanian hypnotist as I tend to use direct methods of hypnosis. I have always been a fan of Elman and have read his book more times than I have fingers. Sean had mentioned on the phone that we will learn stuff about Elman that the book never covered and this intrigued me.

The disc starts once again like a movie. Well, actually a documentary would be more accurate. Once again you quickly notice the quality picture and editing as the camera zooms in on Sean driving down the street and pulling up to the house of Dave Elman’s son. Sean hopes out and greets the legend’s son and then a cut scene of Sean and Elman’s son walking and talking. The video interview is really laid back and is mostly done in what looks to be a home study. Basically Sean interviews Dave Elman’s son and thus you get the REAL history behind one of the greatest hypnotists who ever lived.

What Does Sean and Dave Elman’s Son Cover In DVD 2?

Once again, a really nice bonus is that you get to see tons of photos of Elman and his family that most of the world has never seen. You learn from his sons point of view on how his dad got into hypnosis, how he himself took hypnosis training and even a really cool fact. Dave Elman’s wife was a hypnotist also! Here are just a few of the topics Dave Elman’s son touches on:

What it was like being the son of Dave Elman

What it was like being taught hypnosis by Dave Elman

His dad’s background before he began teaching doctors and dentist

Why Dave Changed His Name

The “Special” Lesson

Auto Suggestion

The Vauderville Connection

How Dave got into teaching doctors and dentist

How Elman helped his country during WW 2: Trust me, you think you know, but you don’t know

Dave’s views on hypnosis and the medical community

His dad’s old days as a stage hypnotist and a look into the final stage hypnosis event his dad ever did

What is was like growing up Jewish within a racist community (I was shocked at the stuff that happened to Dave’s son)

Insight into the different topics Dave talked about in his training such as pain control, allergies, regression, sex and more.

The assassination attempt on Dave’s life which I did hear about before, but something most people don’t know and a lot more interesting personal history.

While most of these sound like things you THOUGHT his book covered. Most of these stories from Dave Elman’s son go into much greater detail and take you behind the scenes. You ever hear about a secret letter Dave received from the white house which I found quite odd. For the first time you begin to feel as if you know Dave Elman. His son takes him off the pages and brings Dave to life again. The interview is really interesting and if you are a fan of Elman or a serious student of hypnosis then this interview is a must to watch. While you learn some techniques and insight into some of Dave’s technique in this DVD I don’t think that is the real value.

The real value in my opinion is to learn about one of the greatest hypnotists to ever grace our profession. They say to become great you must study the greats and I truly believe this myself. This is one of the reasons I sought out to train with some of the best in the world. When reading Dave’s book “Hypnotherapy”, you get to know him on one level, but to hear about his life from his son who was right there during everything is another story altogether.

What I Didn’t Like About This Project

I thought Sean did a great job of interviewing Dave’s son and there isn’t a lot I can complain about really. The only thing that sort of annoyed me a little was the constant switching of views during the interview and the first disc. It’s not a huge problem and as someone who is in the middle of producing a product I know why he was doing it. Dramatic Effect, but I would have preferred a more steady view, but that’s just me. In reality this is a really simple project and its does what it does very well which is gives you an inside look into the world of Dave Elman.

In Conclusion (The review is getting long…lol)

To be honest I thought the project would be good from jump start as I know Sean puts out very good stuff, but I felt I already knew most of the stuff on Elman as I have studied him for years. So in some ways I felt the project would let me down as far as teaching ME something new, but I was completely wrong. This project really takes the man behind the book and gives him a real life face. You learn about the life of Dave Elman in a completely new way and the insights from this DVD actually helped me understand some of the stuff from his book in a much better way.

As the world continues to move forward with technology I can honestly say that this project by Sean and Dave’s son maybe become the new version of the book Hypnotherapy in some sense as it gives you a pretty detailed understanding of Elman, man and hypnotist. If you are new to Elman than I HIGHLY recommend this project and even if you THINK you know about Elman I highly recommend this project. I’m sure you’ll be like me and be saying while watching….”I didn’t know that”

Do You Want To Learn More About This Project?

My hat off to Sean Michael Andrew for putting this Interview together and bringing this information forth as I’m sure once Elman’s son passes away one day this information would have been lost. To be honest, I hope Sean does another interview with his son as I’m sure there are tons of other stories. So in closing this 2 Disc DVD project entitled The Dave Elman Induction is a must have for your hypnosis library. For those of you interesting in learning more about this project.

Hi Everyone,

I was looking through my google alerts the other day and noticed a couple of interesting stories on hypnosis and I thought I would share one of them with all of you today.

A study has been released which was performed by Researchers at the University of Geneva which is located in Switzerland that sheds some light on what goes on under the surface when a person is hypnotized. Hypnotists have always firmly believed that hypnosis and the events that occur during hypnosis are real. Over the last few years more and more studies have come forth finally proving what hypnotists have been saying for a LONG time.

Thanks to advances in brain scanning and mapping technologies science can finally start to see the effects hypnosis has on the mind and the body. The study talks about how hypnosis can paralyze a limb and exactly what is happening within the brain of the person being hypnotized. It’s a really interested article and I think all of my readers will find it interesting.

The results of the research were published in the Journal Neuron and you can click the link below to read the story:

I REALLY don’t want to go to these super lame meetings I have in just about an hour. I should be getting dressed and making sure everything is ready for the meeting, but I much rather sit here and chat with all of you.

In my last post I mentioned some really cool free tele-seminars that the National Guild of Hypnotists put up on their website. Well, beside the free teleseminars the National Guild has also put up a nice collection of Historical Archives of their very own “Journal of Hypnotism” which is a really great magazine the NGH sends out to it’s members.

I’ve been spending some of my limited free time reading through some of these older issues and must say I’ve been enjoying them as they were before my time in the guild or before my time as a hypnotist.

So if you want to check out some more really cool free stuff click the link below and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I had a couple of free moments before a couple of super long boring meetings today so I thought I would share some really cool stuff with all of you.

The other day when I was checking out The National Guild of Hypnotists website I noticed a link which leads to a bunch of really cool free teleseminars. The Guild use to have a bunch of them on there website a while back, but for some reason they got taken down for whatever reason.

Either way they have some up right now so I thought I would share the link with all of you. Some of you may already know about these free teleseminars, but I’m sure some of you didn’t know about them as they don’t really advertise them really heavy on their website.

As a member of The National Guild of Hypnotists myself I’m a big supporter of their vision and goal, but even bigger then that I LOVE free stuff and I’m sure all of my readers do too. So check out the teleseminars at the link below and enjoy!

Uri Geller has recently come out and claimed he hypnotized Michael Jackson before his death to learn details about past court cases. Basically Uri is saying hypnosis makes you tell the truth and that is just WRONG!

I was checking out Cal Banyan’s blog today and he had posted a really interesting story that has popped up in the media recently involving Michael Jackson and Hypnotism.

Uri Geller, who some of you may know from his claims of being able to bend spoons with his mind claims he hypnotized Michael Jackson under false pretenses to learn the truth about his previous court cases.

Uri, who was at one point a friend of Michael’s claimed he needed to know the truth about the court cases and hypnotized Michael one day to learn the truth about those cases. Michael believed the hypnosis session was for something else. Before I go any further please check out the two resources below so you can see and read for yourself.

The first link is from Calbanyan.com which is where I heard the story from and the second link is directly from the news channel that aired the video. Both include video of the interview that Uri gave.

Calbanyan.com – Cal Banyan’s Blog

Geller “Jackson denied abuse claims to me’ – Channel 4 News Direct Link

First off, please don’t believe what Uri claims at all! Hypnosis isn’t a truth serum and can’t make you tell the truth. The simple fact is you are fully aware of what happens during hypnosis and if you want to lie in hypnosis you can. Just because you say something in hypnosis doesn’t mean it’s automatically true.

Now, I’m not saying that Michael Jackson was lying about not being guilty. Please don’t misunderstand what I’m saying here. I personally believe Michael was innocent , but as far as Uri claiming since Michael said he wasn’t guilty under hypnosis that makes it 100 percent truth is just not the case.

You are fully aware of what happens during hypnosis and I can assure you Michael knew what Uri was asking him, if this event happened. Uri doesn’t carry a lot of credibility with me, but that is another story all together.

Either way, I found the story interesting and thought I would share it with my readers. While I hate when misinformation is spread about hypnosis. I look at it as a chance to educate my readers and the general public. Thanks to my friends over at CalBanyan.com for bringing this story to my attention.

P.S. Do you think Uri is just using the recent and shocking news of Michael Jackson death as a way to get into the media or not? I would love to hear what my readers think of this story.

Rest In Peace Michael Jackson….You Will Be Missed! I hope Michael is remembered for all he did for this world as well as his music!

Matt Sison and Randy Shaw are putting on a special 3 day Age Regression Boot Camp where you'll learn advanced Regression Techniques, concepts & Methods. There are only 6 spots left out of 15 so come on in to learn more!

Hi Everyone,

I was on the phone the other day with my good friend and fellow Hypnotist Matt Sison. For those of you who don’t know Matt Sison is considered one of the leading experts in the field of Age Regression work. Matt along with his business partner and fellow Regression Expert Randy Shaw are also the authors of the best regression training programs on the market in my opinion called “Regression Hypnotherapy: Advanced Concepts and Methods”.

They are also the authors of “Pretalk Success” & “Releasing Negative Feelings which also deal with the topic of Regression Hypnotherapy. When you combine all 3 of their projects you have a really complete and powerful course on Regression Hypnotherapy. I highly recommend these courses for any serious hypnotist.

Okay, let me get back on track here as I didn’t attend for this blog post to be a commerical. I just wanted to let you know that Matt and Randy aren’t just some guys who claim to be experts. These guys are the real deal and are also teachers and mentors of mine as well. You guys and gals know I only recommend the best to my readers.

Well, when I was on the phone with Matt the other day he informed me that Randy and him have decided to put together a powerful 3 day Regression Training Boot Camp for only a select few. He wanted to keep promotion to a minimum as they have decided to only allow a total of 15 students. Matt informed me that they wanted to keep the class small so that everyone who comes to the Boot Camp will be able to get the attention and hands on training they require.

This intensive and select 3 day boot camp will consist of working with Matt and Randy within a small group setting and tons and tons of practice. We’re not talking about one or two practice sessions here. Were talking about working with real issues and with real people during the course of the bootcamp. This is your chance to have face time with two of the leading experts where you can ask them questions, get feedback and learn directly from two of the best. Since it’s a small class your going to find it much easier to learn as you won’t get lost in the crowd.

As I mentioned Matt and Randy wanted to keep this Boot Camp small so they have decided to only allow a select few to even mention the Boot Camp and I’m happy to announce I’m one of them. Matt agreed to let me tell my readers about the event as there are only 6 SPOTS LEFT! I usually don’t promote events on my blog unless I really believe they can benefit and add value to our profession and our own skills as Hypnotists.

Matt and Randy have already launched the Boot Camp sign up early for their current students and now are extending the last 6 spots to the general public. So if you are a serious hypnotist and want to learn serious concepts, methods and techniques to take your hypnosis skills to the next level then I highly recommend you sign up for this Age Regression Boot Camp. This Boot Camp is perfect for anyone who has ever asked themselves “Why didn’t I get the results I wanted with my client”? or “How do I work with the much deeper issues”?

Matt has been a teacher and mentor to me and I just really believe in what Randy and him teach. Learning from them has helped me become the hypnotist I am today and I know once you meet and learn from them your lives will never be the same. As Hypnotists are job is to help the client and don’t you owe it to your clients and yourself to provide them with the most powerful tools available?

So if your serious about this profession and interested in taking learning to the next level then click the link below which will take you to the official Regression Boot Camp site which will give you all the information you need.

AGE REGRESSION BOOT CAMP OFFICIAL DETAILS

If you sign up just let Matt and Randy know you heard about the event from Josh. No, I’m not getting any kickbacks or anything like that, but I want Matt to know that my readers are the most serious hypnotists are out there. I promise you that Matt and Randy will take great care of you and if you’re lucky enough to become one of the select 6 please e-mail me and let me know as I would love to get a review of the boot camp once you get back. I won’t be able to make it to this one due to personal stuff, but if another one is ever thrown I will be there with bells on learning from them just as you will.

Once again you can learn everything you need to know from the site below:

Hi Everyone,

If you read my blog lately then you know I have been out of commission for a while. I’ve been in and out of the hospital dealing with some issues, but slowly starting to do better and that’s all that really matters.

One of the good things about being in a hospital for a while is that it gives you time to think and boy, did I have time to think. I thought about many things including my family, my businesses & last but not least my blog and my readers. Even though most of us have never met before I feel like I can call all of you my friends. As I mentioned in the blog post earlier this week I had some stuff planned for all of you and I’m a man of my word.

I was talking with my good friend and fellow Hypnotist Jon Rhodes earlier. Most of you know Jon as he was one of my first guest writers and went on to do some other blog post for me. Over time Jon has become a good friend to the site and to my self.

As we were talking we came up with an idea I think most of you will enjoy. Jon offered to donate a FREE Hypnosis Relaxation Mp3 Download to all the readers of my site called “Swimming with Dolphins” which usually cost $9.95, but free to all of you!

For those of you who don’t know Jon runs a really great Hypnosis Download and Script site called HypnoBusters which has Mp3 downloads, e-books, scripts and a lot more hypnosis related stuff.

So if you want to get your Free Hypnosis Relaxation Mp3 all you have to do is fill in your e-mail in the area to the top right of your screen where it mentions the free conversational hypnosis report and the free hypnosis relaxation download.

Once you sign up you will get sent to a thank you page and then in your e-mail you will get an e-mail asking for confirmination. Click the link within the e-mail and then I’ll send you an e-mail which contains the link to your Free Hypnosis Relaxation MP3 and some other cool stuff too…..

I hope you enjoy the free Hypnosis Relaxation Download and I want to thank Jon Rhodes of HypnoBusters for donating the session for all of my readers. Look for more free stuff in the near future as well.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update as I know I haven’t been around lately. I just got back from a extended stay in the hospital due to something nasty called Pneumonia. It started with me catching a cold and before you knew It I felt like I was drowning. I developed Pneumonia about a week after the cold, but from what the doctor was telling me colds can turn into Pneumonia under the right conditions, but either way I’m alive, kicking and so glad to be out of the hospital.

I’m not 100 percent better yet, but slowly starting to feel better. So hopefully things will get back to normal around here in about a week. I wish I could just take some time off, but things have been really busy lately. My friend and business partner Taylor Sherman and I are still working hard on our first project, plus I have my own projects along with managing my rental properties so tons of fun ahead

Well I got to run as I need to get some sleep, but hopefully the blog will be updated shortly in the near future. In the meantime please checkout some of the articles located in the main menu area of the site all the way at the top of the blog. More will be added soon, but it’s something to get you by until I come back.

To Your Success,

Hypnotherapist, freelance writer and our newest writer Ian Sherred goes over the concept of listening to pain and why listening to pain is one of the best things we could do to help ourselves.

Descartes has a lot to answer for. His idea that the mind is somehow separate from the body has proved remarkably persistent. This way of thinking sees human beings as something like a Star Wars AT-AS Walker carrying around a magic ghost – a two-legged machine driven by a disconnected intelligence.

As beliefs go, it’s limiting, to say the least, and increasingly discredited. These days we understand a little bit more about the role of neurotransmitters and the constant flow of information around our bodies. In many ways, it seems that consciousness is something that’s distributed throughout the entire body, right down to cellular level.

Hypnotherapists have long had an intuitive understanding of this. We often use hypnosis to talk to the unconscious mind, with a view to producing changes in the body. Perhaps the most dramatic example of this is in the realm of pain control.

The late Kay Thompson was a student of Milton Erickson, and a brilliantly gifted pioneer in the use of hypnosis for pain control. Her view of pain was that it’s a warning signal, and nothing else. When everything’s been done that can be done – when the warning’s been heeded, in other words – there’s no further need for the signal.

This is quite a radical reframe. Under the old Descartes model, chronic pain is a maddening conundrum. Many in the medical profession will have encountered people suffering from chronic pain for no apparent reason. In the Thompson model, chronic pain is simply obsolete. It’s like somebody keeping their thumb on your doorbell after you’ve opened the door to let them in.

It also brings pain into the realm of communication, which is what hypnotherapy is all about. As a practising therapist, I’m fascinated by the idea of “pain as communication”. You need to be alert for the language and the message.

The first thing to listen out for is the client’s own understanding of their pain. People can be very eloquent, even poetic, in their description of it.

“Scratchy, and dry.”
“Black and cold – very cold, and heavy too.”
“Like animal claws.”
“A sort of red sensation.”

These are just some of the things I’ve heard from clients, and I’m sure other therapists have heard similar things. Vivid, sensory metaphors like these are gifts for hypnotic work, of course, since they can be transformed. Scratchy and dry can be changed to smooth and lush. Red sensations can become calming green sensations and so on.

Pain can also be symbolic, and surprisingly literal. A colleague of mine treated a patient for lower back pain, who felt unsupported in their work. The therapist Pat Williams talks about working with a woman with a frozen shoulder, whose problems started when her parents went through some marital difficulties and had less time for their daughter – she’d literally been given the cold shoulder!

This fits in with the idea of consciousness being distributed throughout the body. We can begin to understand chronic pain as the body’s way of trying to tell us something, which is often emotional.

A recent experiment at Bangor University in the UK, brought these strands together and suggests a useful technique for pain control. In the experiment, forty-two rheumatoid arthritis sufferers were asked to visualise their pain in the form of a person, before thanking that person for letting them know something was wrong. They then politely but firmly asked that person to leave, visualising them walking off into the distance and eventually out of sight. The participants reported that this technique brought significant pain relief.

All of this offers us a more useful and effective way of helping people with chronic pain. Instead of subjecting them to endless and increasingly futile tests, or continually upping their dosage of painkillers, we need to ask – what is this pain trying to say, and how is trying to say it? Like so much else in life, it comes down to really listening.

Jamie Smart has decided to share with the readers of my blog one of his favorite conversational hypnosis techniques.

In this article we’re going to look at my favourite conversational hypnosis technique. As you begin to use this powerful approach more and more intentionally, you’ll be amazed at how positively people will respond to you. (By the way, if you’re wondering why I’m talking about hypnosis in an NLP tip, I think of them both as the same thing!)

You may already be aware that over the past few months, I’ve spent days in the editing suite, poring over the footage from our “Secrets of Hypnosis” training. There was 8 hours of training, & 3 cameras worth of footage, so it was the longest time I’ve ever spent watching myself & paying attention to how the people I’m working with (including the “audience”) respond to me.

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen yourself talking or presenting to people on video before, but one of the things that happens as you relax & watch yourself from a variety of angles & perspectives is this: you start to become very aware of how people respond to what you say & do, very aware of the subtle (& not-so-subtle) shifts that give you clues to how your messages are being received.

For example: at one point in the programme, I want to “disarm” any scepticism people have about hypnosis (on the film, you can see one of the members of the group with his arms crossed in a classic “sceptical” posture), so I told a story – I said:

“I was at the gym the other day, & I was talking to a woman who was studying psychology, & when I told her I was involved with NLP, she made a face. So I said ‘I sense that you’ve got some reservations about it.” She explained that she was somewhat sceptical…

It reminds me of the time a man was sent to me by his boss for coaching. We met, & after I introduced myself, he said (with classic sceptical pose) “I’m usually pretty sceptical about this sort of thing”.

“Usually?” I responded.

“Well, you come very highly recommended”, he replied.

I said, “Well you should be sceptical.”

He looked puzzled. “Why?” he asked.

I explained, “Until you’ve experienced just how powerful this stuff can be in your own life, why would you have any reason to be anything else?”

He relaxed visibly, uncrossed his arms, & engaged fully with our coaching session.

(By the way, crossed arms don’t “mean” someone is sceptical – sometimes they just feel comfortable with them crossed, but it can be a useful clue when combined with other information).

The power of stories

By now, you’ve probably guessed that my favourite conversational hypnosis technique is stories.

As human beings, the ability to tell & listen to stories is an evolutionary development (remember, until a few hundred years ago, there was no printing press – stories were pretty much the only way to pass on the wisdom of the tribe from one generation to the next).

When we listen to stories, we do a “me too” – we go inside our own experience to find examples to help make sense of the story we’re hearing.

This is a very hypnotic experience.

This is why when you tell someone a story, they’ll tell you about something similar that happened to them.

1) Decide to see yourself as a storyteller & start developing your skills.

Stories are such a powerful for skill for conversational hypnosis, because as soon as you start telling one, the effect on your listeners is powerful:

They age regress – we all got told stories as children, & there are lots of positive anchors associated with them for most people.

They relax & take off their “armour” – after all, it’s just a story!

They do a “me too”, & start finding or creating references for what you’re telling them about.

Remember, people will only do something once they’ve imagined doing it.

As I came to the end of my story about the sceptical man I was coaching, I watched with a deep sense of satisfaction as the man in the audience whose arms were crossed suddenly relaxed, changed his posture & uncrossed his arms.

He’d gone inside his own experience to make sense of the sceptic story, & created a reference for himself of moving from scepticism, to curiosity, to being fully engaged. And of course, once he imagined it, he started to do it.

When I saw this piece of footage, I told Dave (the editor) “You have to get this on the DVD“, so he used his technical wizardry to do a shot within shot so you can see the audience responses as you’re watching me deliver the training.

2) Go back to the beginning of this tip & highlight all the different stories I’ve told. Ask yourself “What is he trying to accomplish with this story?”

Part of how I got good at using stories to influence people was by listening to how other people who got great results were doing it. I said to myself “You can become a master storyteller” then started to watch, listen & practice.

3) Next time you’re having a conversation with someone, ask yourself “What is one of the stories I could tell them now to help them feel good?” Then tell the story, & notice the response you get.

Noticing the responses you get is key. The visual component is an essential aspect of hypnosis (conversational or otherwise), because this is how you notice what response you’re getting.

The best hypnotherapists

Great public speakers

Highly paid consultants

Strong, charismatic leaders

The most effective managers

The funniest comedians

Great coaches

What do all these people have in common? They notice the response they’re getting, & alter what they’re doing & saying accordingly.

The Ericksonian Hypnosis Cards are the first product review of 2009. A fast and easy way to learn Ericksonian Hypnosis Language Patterns.

Hypnosis and NLP Trainer Jamie Smart runs a well known and successful Hypnosis & NLP Store called “Salad”, which is pretty well known within the hypnosis and NLP communities.

Jamie and his wonderful staff sent me a few things to check out and to be honest they we’re all pretty good, but one product really stood out to me. Salad’s own Ericksonian Hypnosis Cards.

I have been to the Salad store before and saw these cards for sale, but never really gave too much thought to them. I knew a lot of well known people recommended the cards such as John La Valle, Jonathan Altfeld, Doug O’Brien, Karen Hearon but as it goes I ended up looking over this product for far too long. When the package arrived I opened it up and at first glance all I saw was a deck of green cards. To be honest my first impression was “this is it?”

As I continued to open the package I noticed that I also received a CD in a really nice DVD case in addition to the cards and a really nice clear carrying case. I don’t know about all of you, but when I receive stuff I didn’t plan on such as extras I’m always happy.

Side Note: I just got done talking with my connection over at Salad and she wanted me to mention that the CD I received doesn’t actually come with The Ericksonian Hypnosis Cards and it’s sold as a stand alone product. If your interested in the Ericksonian Hypnosis Cards Unpacked CD you can find it Here.

This was mistake and I don’t want everyone thinking they are getting the Cd when they order the cards when in reality it’s a stand alone product. Sorry for any confusion. Either way I still end up giving a brief review of the cd in this review as it was included with the package I was sent. I have decided to do a seperate review of this product in just a few weeks though that will be a full in depth review.

It turns out it was just a extra sent to me to review as well. So once again sorry for any confusion. Now, lets get back to the review!

I have to admit that I was impressed with the clear and strong carrying case that comes with the cards. It fits pretty well into your pocket and does a great job of keeping your cards from getting all messed up and bent. Personally I wish playing cards would use a case similar to the one that came with the Hypnosis cards, but I guess we can’t get everything we want. It was just a nice touch if you ask me.

The cards are set up like a normal deck of cards with all the suites, jokers and etc. So yes, if you wanted to you could actually play a game of cards with this deck. Jamie Smart and his team actually created a game or two you can play using these cards which is mentioned on one of the cards and again on the CD.

The cards don’t actually teach you Ericksonian Hypnosis, but they do teach you Ericksonian Language Patterns which are a vital part to learning conversational hypnosis, which is another name for Ericksonian Hypnosis. These are the same language patterns used by Dr. Milton Erickson himself.

Now that I saw what the cards contained it all made sense to me. The cards act as flash cards in a way, which makes learning Ericksonian Language Patterns easy. I have included an image of one of the cards so you can see what you are getting on the back of each one as I thought this may be helpful for all of you.

Here is what you get on the back of each Ericksonian Hypnosis Card:

**A unique language pattern for each card

**A breakdown of how to use it in a conversational or hypnosis session

**Why it works and how it works and extra information

What they have done for me?

I have to admit that these little cards really blew me away as I was expecting something different. Having these cards allows me to learn these patterns wherever I’m at and at any time. I don’t have to shift through countless books on Milton Erickson or language patterns.

I have all the best patterns right in my pocket. This makes learning the patterns easy because you tend to remember them just as you would a deck of cards. I have to admit since I got these cards and I have been using them I have been getting really good at these patterns.

I find myself using them in situations now without even thinking about it really. It’s as if the more I’m exposed to them the more they become a part of my daily language. I’m even using them in my own custom sentences and patterns rather than the ones that come with the deck.

I have also began using some of these patterns within my hypnosis sessions and have noticed a slight increase. Clients are reporting a much more personal outcome than before, but this could just be me seeing what I want to see, but hell if they worked for Milton Erickson than why not me too?

What is on the CD?

Eventually I listened to the CD and it really is a nice compliment to the cards. It basically explains how the cards works, gives you insight into them and what they can do for you as well as gives you a game or two you can actually play with the cards which can increase your learning of the patterns. I didn’t have to listen to the cd to figure out the cards as I have some experience with Ericksonian hypnosis, but for someone new the cd is a great feature.

What Features could be better?

It’s actually very hard to find something wrong with these cards as they are a very simple product. Being a simple product makes it where their isn’t a lot to comment on. These cards are designed to teach you language patterns and they do just that. If I were to say the cards had any flaw its how the information is presented on the back of the card.

If you look at the image above the information just runs on with no breaks and that can be a little confusing. Once again we have to keep in mind that they don’t have a lot of room to put the information, but it did take me a couple of readings as the way it’s written on the back tends to hurt my eyes and I get confused easily without breaks in my writing, but that is a very small flaw in the grand scheme of things and the whole eye thing, well maybe I just need glasses?(joking, sort of)

Conclusion

So for my first review of the year I have to give Salad’s Ericksonian Hypnosis Cards a 9 out 10. Jamie Smart and his wonderful team have really taken something as complex as Ericksonian Language Patterns and made it where anyone could learn. If you want to learn language patterns than this is really a great tool and something every hypnotists, in my opinion should have in their collection.

Suggestibility test are taught by most hypnosis schools and organization, but do they actually serve any purpose?

Sorry I haven’t been around the last few weeks but I have been trying to handle the fallout due to a recent fire. Yes, you heard me right I have had to deal with a small fire that broke out at my home.

I lost my computers in the fire as well as some of my books and training material. The fire department says I had some bad wiring, which I can believe as my house needed some updated. So by the grace of god the only thing I lost was my office, but all of that can and will be replaced.

Either way I got access to a friend’s computer so I thought I would start to get back on the ball with this blog. Before I begin with my new post I also want to say thank you again for all the support my readers have showed my wife and me after the loss of our dog Beawolf. All of you are the best and I’m lucky to have readers as great as all of you.

What Are Suggestibility Test?

So enough small talk let’s get down to the reason I’m writing this post. If you have any experience with hypnosis than you have more than likely heard of something we as Hypnotists call Suggestibility Test. For those of you who don’t know suggestibility test are basically techniques that some Hypnotists use to determine the level of a persons suggestibility.

Some of these suggestibility test include the following techniques:

One hand rising while one hand is failing

Hand Clasp

Magnetic Fingers

Lemon Slice and there are many other test out there.

These suggestibility test are taught pretty much in every hypnosis training course or school around and have pretty much become a standard in the hypnosis community. These test are used all over the world and the reason they are taught to us is because they are suppose to help us gauge if the person were working with will respond well to hypnosis. Thus we use them as tools to help us when working with clients.

Suggestibility Test Are Taught In Most Trainings

In the beginning I also learned about suggestibility test and was told these are the key to our success as Hypnotists. I was told that if a person fails one of these test that they would be an awful subject and if they passed they would be great subjects.

I, like most Hypnotists bought into this whole idea of test designed to gauge the suggestibility of our clients. In the beginning I really thought this was a genius idea as it gave us a sure fire way to make sure we only work with people who can be hypnotized.

As many of you know I have been involved in the world of Hypnotism for quite some time and during that time I have learned a lot. I have learned from some of the greats and I have and still continue to study my ass off. Well, after many years of studying, working with clients and other things dealing with hypnosis I have come to one conclusion……

Suggestibility Test Don’t Test Suggestibility

Suggestibility Test DO NOT gauge the suggestibility of the people you are working with in any shape form or fashion and in most cases they are completely useless.

Okay, I have a feeling I’m going to start to receive some hate mail for this statement and if that makes you feel better than please feel free to leave your view in the comment below. In my opinion all a suggestibility test does is test how responsive the person you are working with is toward you at that very moment. If you want to disagree with me you have the right too, but my goal is to help you push your limits and expand the way you think about different techniques and concepts.

Now here is another problem with the term “Suggestibility Test” I have. This term uses the word “test” and the word test implies you can either pass or fail. Think about this for a moment, if you think about the word test I’m sure you may have flashbacks to a really hard test you took during high school or one that you passed or maybe even failed. This term may have been fine in the past when our knowledge of hypnosis was limited, but we have come a long way in our overall understanding of this field.

As Hypnotists we know better than most people how words affect us and how our words affect our sessions. We are always fighting a uphill battle against fears and myths and the last thing we need when working with someone is the idea in their mind that they have failed something because we know when people believe they have failed something results go down the drain and good luck changing their minds.

We also know the way we view hypnosis and the way the client views you play a huge role in the overall hypnosis process. One of the mental laws I was taught by Gerald Kein which I have found to ring so true is the idea that what the mind expects tend to happens. So if a person believe they have failed or have a chance to fail you might as well just move on.

Over the years as I worked more and more with people in an office setting as well as street settings I began to notice something interesting. I would perform a so called suggestibility test and sometimes the person would fail and still end up being a great hypnotic subject. In other situations the person would pass and end up not being the greatest hypnosis subject.

So if they passed the suggestibility test and it’s suppose to test suggestibility than why didn’t they respond great to hypnosis. Some would say you have to consider other factors and I agree, but when all the factors are in order and tested over and over again this should tell you something. I get e-mails and talk to other hypnotists who also report the same thing.

All they do is help you determine how responsive they are to you at that moment, but the great thing about this is that how they view you and respond to you can change in an instant. I’m not saying knowing how responsive to you they are is a bad thing to know, but there are better ways than these suggestibility test.

So why are hypnosis organizations still teaching this outdated model of hypnosis? I wish I could answer that question, but I don’t have a clue why they still teach this model. Suggestibility test as they were being taught are outdated and it’s time we upgrade this technique.

Tips & Techniques For Hypnotist Who Still Use Suggestibility Test

Personally I have stopped using suggestibility test completely within my hypnosis practice. Now, I know some people still use suggestiblity test and if you still use them and find some purpose that’s fine, but let me give you a couple of suggestions to help you improve your results if you still use these test.

Btw, I do use suggestibility test as instant and rapid inductions and I’ll create another blog post about this soon, but I don’t use suggestibility test with clients anymore.

Now, if you do still use these techniques here are some little tricks and tips to help you overcome any issues that may pop up. First off, you need to learn how to reframe the suggestibility test. I prefer to drop the use of the word suggestibility and the word test. I recommend people call them imagination games or a imagination exerisce or something to that effect.

Basically I want to take the power out of the word “test”. The key here is to make sure the person you are working with believes that no matter what happens that they are a great subject. The concepts of belief and expectation are very powerful in the hypnosis world.

So the key here is to always frame these in a way where the person can’t fail, but can always win. Now a great point that my good friend Steve Roh brought up to me one day during a discussion at Tranced Out, which is my Free Hypnosis & NLP community mentioned:

“that you need to keep in mind that if the client accepts the frame that it’s just an “imagination exercise” that weak results may cause the hypnotist to pre-formulate a belief about the (in)ability of the client to succeed

(”Oh no, their hands aren’t separated widely enough… they’re not suggestible… this probably won’t work”), thus reducing hypnotist operator confidence, which isn’t good…… Steve Roh”

So you as the operator need to keep this concept in mind and know that if the person your working with fails one, who cares? It doesn’t matter and you just need to have the confidence to push forward.

Another thing to do is never even mention them at all and just have the person go straight into the routines. Once again, as hypnotists we have skills most people don’t know and since most people don’t know how hypnosis works this makes us the expert and gives us a amazing advantage.

It’s All About The Frame

So when working with someone always frame success from the get go and never leave a chance for your client or the person your working with to fail. If something doesn’t go like “you” think this doesn’t mean they failed. Everything is relative and since they don’t know they failed unless you told them or framed it in that way just say “perfect” and keep moving forward.

We have to keep asking ourselves over time what works and what doesn’t if we want our profession to grow. Just because something is being taught by the masses doesn’t mean we have to keep using it. I prefer not to use them in my practice as my client is paying me money to help them with a problem, not to have them make their hands stick.

Street Hypnosis or Stage Hypnosis

Now, if your into street hypnosis or stage hypnosis than maybe they serve a purpose in some context or form for you. Maybe you just want to show people the power of the mind to some small degree or just show people how the subconscious works at a party or something similar. I do use them in street hypnosis, but only as rapid inductions. I will take the start of a suggestibility test and than convert it right into a rapid induction.

Conclusion

Once again, this post is just my opinion from my experiences and the experiences of others in the hypnosis profession I talk to. If you still use them and find you get some type of benefit from them than continue to use them. There are many different roads that lead to the same destination.

Either way, the goal of this post is to just cause you to think about what we do a little bit more and decide for yourself if these so called “suggestibility test” are actually doing anything for your client and yourself.

Do You know one of the best ways to increase your income and credibility is by becoming the creator of a information product? Take a look behind the scenes...

One of the biggest problems in our profession is finding good quality hypnosis certification in my opinion.

I have seen some pretty awful certification courses out there which hurts our profession more than it improves it. The simple truth of the matter is that in the Hypnotism Profession we don’t require a license to practice Hypnosis. Heck, to be honest we don’t even require certification, but in my opinion we should all seek to become certified or board certified. While it’s not required it shows other professions and our clients we care about our profession and want to be the best we can.

As I stated earlier the problem with our profession is that anything can be technically be a certification course as we have no governing bodies in our field. Still, if you take pride in what you do and respect this profession you should seek out some quality training. So this brings up the question than what is quality Hypnosis training? Well, that is sort of hard to answer in some ways as different people have different opinions.

What Makes A Quality Hypnosis Certification Course?

In my opinion a good hypnosis certification course should be more than just one darn e-book and should take you more than a day to complete. Now, something else to keep in mind that it’s not the length of the course, but the quality of materials.

For instance, do you learn the history of your profession or do you learn how to work with clients, different inductions, troubleshooting suggestions, confidence building, legal and ethics guidelines? Any good Hypnosis certification course should contain these items. Does your certification course detail some of the greats of our profession such as Dave Elman and Milton Erickson? Do you learn how to build rapport, establish yourself as an expert and more?

These are things I look for in a good Hypnosis Certification course. I’m certified through many of the top organizations in this business so I have a good idea of what to look for. Another thing you should look for is a actual test.

Most of these one e-book certification courses award you certification without any type of test and they never provide you support afterward and this is just sad. What is worst is some of these certification courses charge $500 to a $1,000 and don’t provide any type of value what so ever.

I know as over the years I have spent thousands on good courses, bad courses and down right awful courses. As someone who is always interested in learning new skill sets I’m always looking for a good course and I tend to be quite critically of Hypnosis Certification Courses out there.

Let’s Go Behind The Scenes

Well, recently my good friend, fellow hypnotist and guest writer Nathan Thomas has released an Hypnosis Certification Course to the general public. (Check at the end of this article for the link) Since he is a good friend he sent me an early copy to review so he could get feedback from me and others which is a great way to increase the value of your product.

This is what anyone who is interested in going into the product creation department of our profession should do. Always seek feedback before releasing the course and make sure you provide tons of value. Why should we spent on our money on stuff that doesn’t provide us value?

It should always be a Win/Win situation as we give money and we receive value. Since I received the Hypnosis Certification Course early I thought it may be sort of fun to go behind the scenes a little of the creative process when creating a certification course. I was planning a traditional sort of review, but thought a behind the scene case study of a Hypnosis Training and Certification Course may be different and provide some insight for Hypnotists looking to create their own products down the road. I plan to give you tons of tips on creating products and the thought process behind them. How many Hypnosis Blogs take you behind the scenes into the world of Hypnosis Product Creation.

I highly recommend all Hypnotists think of themselves as authors down the road as it’s a great way to build credibility and increase your income. I myself, am working on a few different products which will be released down the road. So let’s take a small look into the release of this Hypnosis Certification Course by Nathan Thomas by doing a small behind the scene case study.

Age Is Just A Number, Isn’t It?

When I first received the certification course I have to admit I was quite proud of Nathan. He is a younger Hypnotist, but don’t let that fool you as he been studying since a kid and has studied with many of the same people I have. He has been personally mentored by Igor Ledochowski, Richard Nongard and many others. While he might only be 17 years of age he is well trained and a pretty darn good writer in my opinion as well.

I was quite impressed with the amount of work put into this Advanced Hypnosis Certification Course as it is way more than just a simple e-book. You can tell he has been working on this for a few months and maybe even longer. The creation of a product depending on the type you create can take a nice bit of time depending on the time you set aside for the project. Unless you are a born writer most people have to write a little than take breaks and write again as it’s easy to develop a mental block sometimes. I recommend you break what you want to write down into different blocks and write about that topic rather than trying to write an entire book or home study course. You will find it easier to write and the process will go much quicker. Just a little tip for all of you writers out there.

Always Know What Your Outcome Is?

Now Nathan’s Certification Course consist of many different e-books, mp3’s and videos all covering different Hypnosis topics. He covers items such as Ethics, Safety, Inductions, Troubleshooting, Suggestion Formation, Building Rapport, Confidence, Self Hypnosis, Waking Hypnosis, What is Hypnosis, The History of Hypnosis, working with clients and issues and much more.

All of this stuff in my opinion should be covered in any good hypnosis certification course. Remember that it’s impossible to cover everything every Hypnotist should know in a course. Stuff will be left out as we can never know what everyone needs to succeed. Your goal in creating a home study course, book or whatever is to know in advance what your outcome is. What do you want people to get out of your course? Are you trying to provide a course on general hypnosis knowledge? Are you trying to cover a certain technique or area of hypnosis? All of this should be known before the creation of the product.

I remember in the beginning Nathan and I we’re talking about his project and he knew exactly what his outcome was for his Certification Course. He knew it would be impossible to teach everything needed to know about Hypnosis to everyone so he wanted to take the most effective techniques and skills that he and others found and place them in a certification course. He didn’t want filler material in his course, but he also didn’t want to just put advance techniques into his course. So he included a basic foundation combined with more experienced techniques which would allow a beginner to acquire skills and thinking that usually come to Hypnotists who have been in the profession for a lot longer. Nathan knew his outcome for the course and I highly recommend you do too.

Are You Using The Power Of The Internet To Generate More Income and Less Expenses?

One of the best selling points of the course in my opinion is his section for Dave Elman and Milton Erickson. This is the first time I have really seen a certification course go in depth into the history of two of the greatest influences in our profession. Most courses mention them in the history and that is about it which I find quite depression. These are two of the greatest influences in our profession and the most we get in most courses in a small foot note? That just doesn’t seem right does it? These two Mp3’s are a in depth break down of these two great influences and goes into detail about there lives, training, techniques, views on hypnosis, training and much more. I’m very much into character profiles as you should be too. To be great you have to study with the greats and while Dave Elman and Milton Erickson have both passed away. This is the next best thing to learning and training with them.

Another important thing to consider when creating some type of product is the format on which it will be released. Nathan decided to use the power of the internet and make the whole course digital which is a smart move in my opinion. Why is the digital format such a good idea? Well, it allows for low overhead, which means product cost as you can create most of the stuff with a mic, recording software and a video camera. It also allows your customers to get instant access to the materials they paid for. No waiting times or sitting by the mailbox wondering when the mailman will drop off your new purchase. Also nowadays everyone lives by there computers or has some type of mp3 player which allows you to take your training with you to the gym or on a walk or listen to it at work or during a car ride. The Internet is a powerful tool and if you are not using it than shame on you Hypnotists. You are losing tons of money and you also know see why I blog. I’ll be doing some more post on Blogging, The Internet and other things to help increase your credibility and income as Hypnotists in the near future.

Why Feedback Needs To Be Painful So You Can Be Successful

As I mentioned earlier Nathan Thomas sent me an early copy of his Advanced Hypnosis Certification Course course for review and feedback. So why did Nathan do this? Why give away free copies to experts in the field? This is one advantage of digital products as no real overhead so you can send copies to other people for reviews and etc. This is critically as in the beginning phases your product is very rough and sometimes you need an outside perspective on your Hypnosis Training Product. You should always ask for feedback from others who you know will give you truthfully feedback. Nathan knows that I will be very honest with him and if his product was shit I would tell him his course was shit. Truthfully feedback is important because how can you improve your product for your marketplace without knowing what needs to be improved. If you give your product to someone and they tell you it’s perfect they are lying. Seriously, every product has a issue or two and should be addressed.

It’s also a smart marketing move as in exchange for the free copy I would like you to give me a review. Review equals promotion as long as it’s a good review, but that is why you want the feedback so you can make your hypnosis product the best you can so you can get a good review, hopefully. So let’s get honest here and go a little more behind the scenes into the issues Nathan’s course had IN the beginning.

Nathan Thomas Makes A Few Mistakes

The first thing I noticed in the rough draft was a few spelling errors, but ones that M.S. Word usually misses. Nathan is a pretty good writer, but even software will miss spelling errors sometimes. I should know as M.S. Word misses stuff for my blog post to sometimes. Spelling errors are to be expected in a rough draft so no big deal there. The techniques and material in the course we’re really well put together and the examples of how to do techniques such as Instant and Rapid Inductions was well crafted. I would have liked to see some pictures or something of this part, but that’s just because I’m a visual person. Nathan had a nice bit of material, but I felt he could have included a little bit more for me. If your going to release a product it should be your best foot put forward in my humble opinion.

This leads me to the biggest feedback issue I had with his Advanced Hypnosis Certification Course Review. The overlooked area of pricing, which is the MOST important area to focus on. Nathan has already sold a couple of early versions to a few people at the price of $300.00 which to be honest I thought was a little high for his Hypnosis Training Course. Let me clear something up that I believe you should charge a high price for your training as a higher price is typically associated with higher value. The problem is if you charge a high price, but the material and training doesn’t support the price. Now I’m not saying his training is worth it, but for a digital product and while he had a lot of material I still felt the price could be cheaper. So I let Nathan know I thought he could provide more value and charge the same price which may get some sales or provide more value and charge less which would get him a lot of sales. Nathan knows this as well, but sometimes as I mentioned you have to get an outside perspective as you can become to close to your project.

How A Training Course Went From Average To Great

Overall, my first review of his Advanced Hypnosis Training course was a good one except for the points mentioned above. I sent Nathan off an e-mail and let him know and from here on it’s up to Nathan. Remember, just because someone gives you feedback doesn’t mean you have to take the feedback as it may not fit within the guidelines of what he is trying to do, but if I know Nathan he would take the feedback, use it and come back even stronger, which is exactly what he did. Nathan did like Emeril and Took It Up A Notch!

1. First, he went and edited every single item in the course and even added more to each section. All the audio was re-edited and more information was added to each section. He corrected all spelling errors and even prepared an outline of the course so people know exactly what each section will give them and in what order to do the training. You wouldn’t believe the amount of Author out there who skip this part. One of the most asked questions by customers is what order should I watch or listen to this program in? Seriously, this is one of the most asked questions.

2. Nathan added entire new sections such as a lesson on using hypnosis for entertainment and to top it off he got Richard Nongard, who is a very well known Hypnosis Training and Stage Hypnotist to contribute two audio programs valued at over $100.00 to Nathan’s course. One which is actually something new from Richard Nongard called Autogenic Training which is a advanced method of Self Hypnosis and Mediation which explores the mind body connection. This is a good move for anyone getting into the hypnosis training business. Bonuses are a great way to increase the value of your course and help promote other people. I’ll be doing a post on Joint Ventures in the near future as well. You won’t want to miss that post so subscribe to Rss to be notified when it’s posted. This is a strong move because now he can actually charge the price of $300.00 after the changes or he can lower it which builds even more value. This establishes trust with his readers which is very important.

3. Nathan did something I completely forgot to mention which was completely changing the sales letter for the Hypnosis Training Course. The sales letter is one of the most important items to get right as a good sales letter will get you tons of sales while an awful sales letter will get you no sales. Nathan took the funds he made from the sales and reinvested it into his business which is a smart long term move. His old sales letter was very hard to read and all over the place. The color isn’t the greatest either and to be honest I would have not been able to recommend this course with that sales letter. You can look at the old sales letter HERE You should always be carefully of what you recommend to others as it affects your repetition as well. Now his NEW sales letter is very well done and a 100 percent improvement over the last one and it can be seen HERE. Everyone should look at this sales letter to see how a good sales letter should be structured if you are selling an information product online. Physical products usually don’t require the same type of sales letter, but internet based products should ALWAYS have good sales copy.

4. Nathan Thomas took my advice and lowered the price of his Advanced Hypnosis Training. This is great because since he increased the value of his training and included a lot more stuff of value and lowered the price it increases the value in the eye of the customer. A strong position move and anyone into product creation should remember this point. Remember that Content is King. It’s all about value and the benefits the customer receives. We’ll get into his new price in a moment as I have some special to mention to all of you about this. If you want to know more, but don’t want to read the rest check out the special offer below.

5. Instead of just offering one payment plan which was all the money upfront. Nathan decided to offer the course on a payment plan. This is critically for anyone selling a product because it gives the people the ability to enjoy the course and pay over time in case they don’t have the lump sum. Customers like choices and I know I prefer payments sometimes so I can put it on a credit card or something and have a lump sum available when I need it for something else.

6. Most Certification courses just give you a certificate, but Nathan Thomas is personally involved with each one of his customers and you speak to him directly to take the certification test. No sales person or hired gun, but Nathan himself and that speaks volume. This shows the customers you are personally involved in the program and not just some guru selling stuff. Now, I have to admit that his model is a good one to build trust and rapport, but if his business ever really takes off this business model may not work and I would recommend you figure out another system to manage your time such as a mailed test or a assistant to help with this part. In the beginning though I don’t see nothing wrong with this. So yes, you actually have to take a test to receive your certification which it should be in my opinion.

Never Settle For Less, Only The Best

So overall I’m very impressed with the work Nathan put forth with this course. He took it from just being an okay Hypnosis Certification Course to a above average training course by the improvements he made overall.

Remember the course was already good, but the improvement of the product as a whole has a strong impact on the brand and the selling of that product. Never settle with your first draft and always, always strive to make each product you create the best possible as your products and training are an extension of yourself. Always know your outcome, work in small blocks, give tons and tons of value, make sure your price point is something the market will buy, do your research and keep in mind the entire image of the product and not just the quality within.

Is This Course Only For Beginners?

Before I wrap this up I want to let everyone know that I have NO problem in recommending this certification course to others. There is a lot of junk out there so it’s nice to finally get some quality. I think Nathan did a good job of taking Advanced training and expressing it in a way which will give teenage Hypnotist or people looking to get into this field with a strong foundation of basic training and advanced training.

Does this course teach you everything? No it doesn’t, but what it does do is gives you a strong overview and gives you the skills needed to began your path. This is a good solid course and since it’s digital I’m sure Nathan will be adding to it over time.

All Good Things Must Come To An End

Either way I hope you enjoyed this review and Behind the scene look into the creation of a Hypnosis Certification and Training Course by Nathan Thomas. I hope you all took advantage of the tips I placed through this behind the scene case study as It will help you to make a better product down the road.
Recently my wife and I had a loss in our family. Our beloved friend, family member and pet passed away about two weeks ago. His name was Beawolf and he was a Shetland Sheepdog.

Well I had planned a bunch of blog post over the last few weeks, but something personal came up which has taken up some of my time.

If you’re a member of my Hypnosis Elite Newsletter than you already know this personal issue that has kept me away from the blog.

My Wife And I Loss A Great Friend

Recently, our family dog named Beawolf passed away without warning about a week or two ago and I have been dealing with the fallout of this situation.

For those of you interested in knowing I don’t have any kids, but I am married. Since we don’t have kids our dog Beawolf who was a Shetland sheepdog was like a child to my wife and to me for that fact. He has been with us for a while and his passing happened without any warning to us.

He was fine during the morning and fine when I came home for lunch a few days ago, but as my wife and I were leaving to go to work I noticed he didn’t walk me to the door as he usually does whenever I leave. I looked for him and noticed he was laying over near the wall, which wasn’t common for Beawolf.

How It All Went Downhill

I went over to check on him and noticed he was pretty limp and didn’t want to move for anything. I also noticed he was leaking stool and his body felt very cold. My wife noticed this with me and began to break down, cry and scream as I mentioned Beawolf is like family to us. I noticed he was still breathing, but it appeared as if he was struggling so of course I started to panic as well, but knew I had to move fast. I picked Beawolf up and with the help of my wife got him to the car as fast as I could and drove off as if I was traveling at the speed of warp 10.

After a long drive to the animal hospital I rushed him in and they went to work on him to try and figure out what was wrong. My wife wasn’t able to ride due to certain reasons so she got her father to bring her up to the hospital. The doctors didn’t know much at the time other than he was losing a lot of blood through his back end and he was very weak. They had mentioned his veins were also sealing up, whatever that means.

Eventually, they came to us and told us they believe his systems were shutting down. They had a theory which was something must be wrong with his spleen which is causing him to bleed out. They told us we had two options basically which were put him to sleep or attempt an operation to go in, find out the exact cause, repair it and go from there. The problem is that the vet didn’t believe he would be able to make it through the operation.

During all of this I’m crying, my wife is crying, but we were trying to keep our composure the best we could so we could make a proper decision. We first considered putting Beawolf to sleep so he wouldn’t suffer so we asked if we could see him before we make a decision.

Never Give Up

The doctors brought him in and he looked pretty weak still. They had him hooked up to an I.V. and some other stuff. We asked to be alone with him and spent time just letting know how much we loved him and cared for him. We petted him for a while and just spent time with him when we noticed a change in Beawolf. As we started petting him and talking to him he began to wag his tail and try to lift his head up and lick us. This was amazing to us because earlier he was very weak and could barely move. The doctors told us it was due to him having fluids put into him, but my wife and I knew different.

I had asked from a sign from god or an angel to help us through this tough time and help us make the right choice. It was than we knew or at least we believed he might have the strength to make it through the operation. The part that was killing my wife the most is that she was blaming herself. She had the idea in her mind that he got into something or other reasons, which we knew we’re not true. She really wanted to know what could cause our beloved pet to go from healthy to ill in a matter of moments.

The doctors informed us of the risk again and than if he didn’t make it through the operation he would not feel any discomfort. So we gave the go ahead praying Beawolf had the strength to fight. The doctors believed he would not even survive the entry cut or the gas to put him under during the operation. I talked with my wife some more and did what I could to be the strong husband and help her through this time, but no words I could come up were enough. The truth is that I was hurting inside as well.

A Fighter To The Very End

Eventually my wife has to leave for certain reasons, but I told her I would stay and keep everyone informed. As I work for myself I’m not bind by a boss or being stuck at a job in the traditional sense. Time seemed to go on forever and than eventually it happened. One of the doctors came in and asked me to sit down.

My beloved friend, companion and loyal pet Beawolf passed away.

The doctors told me he has amazed them in the operation because he made it through most of the operation, but they started to lose him right in the end when they we’re getting ready to start the corrective work. The cause of death was known though and it was due to a tumor that had been connected to his spleen and somehow broke off which caused his spleen to rip and him to begin bleeding out. The doctor said this was a pretty rare case and nothing we could have done to really catch it.

Beawolf always had his shots and was well taken care for and as we told the vet he never showed any warning signs. Still, in a way my wife has her prayer answered as beloved Shetland Sheepdog Beawolf lasted long enough as to provide the doctors the cause of his death. This was important to my wife because she didn’t have to keep blaming herself and she knew in some part that Beawolf was a fighter and didn’t want to give in and fought as long and as hard as he could for himself and us.

So in the end we have lost our friend, but we lose him knowing he knew how much we loved him and valued him as a member of our family.

My Readers Help My Wife Through A Tough Time

My wife was having a very hard time since his passing, but things have finally started to get better and I truly believe one of these reasons is because of ALL OF YOU.

A week or two ago I sent out an message to my mailing list/newsletter asking for the help of all my readers to surprise Temika with sometime of note or letter letting her know things would get better or personal stories of loss suffered by my readers and how they overcame the pain in time.

The response was AMAZING to say the least as I received over 1,000 different stories, letters, poems and notes from all of you addressed to my wife and some to me. My wife had no clue I was doing this so after I received the messages I put them together in a notebook for her and showed her and she just started crying. Good tears though because she was truly moved by all of them and yes, she read every single one.

She doesn’t really follow the Internet or understand how all of this stuff works, but she was truly grateful for all of your support. She has told me to tell all of you how special all of you are and how much you changed her life. She said after reading the notes and letters she released she isn’t alone in her loss and that time will heal the wounds.

I have been doing this blog for a little over a year now and I have many proud moments from blogging, but this one will always be the most special to me as it went pass blogger and readers and became friends helping friends.

A Finally Thank You To My Readers

Once again thank you for all of your help during these tough times and this just tells me that I made the right choice blogging and working to build relationships with my readers. As Hypnotists we help people with everyday problems and this shows you how powerful of a profession we are. All of you helped wife without every seeing her in person, which is the power of the Internet.

So thank you again and I look forward to reading your comments on this post and future post.

Joshua Houghton
Truly Grateful

Nathan Thomas shares with us some really great tips on How to Easily Master Instant And Rapid Hypnosis Inductions in this new article.

My good friend and Teenage Hypnotist Nathan Thomas just released a free report to his mailing list and after reading it over I thought it would make a great addition to this Hypnosis Blog.

So Nathan has allowed me to post that special report here for everyone to check out who may not be on his mailing list. So I hope all of you enjoy this article on How To Easily Master Instant And Rapid Hypnosis Inductions by Nathan Thomas.

————————————————————————————

So you finally pluck up the courage to do an instant hypnosis induction in front of a group of onlookers. With everyone’s eyes on you, you nervously perform the technique, and it fails.

This is one of the most common fears new hypnotists seem to have about hypnosis, and it is one of the most common questions I get asked. By the end of this article the only question you will be asking is ‘what shall I do with the people I hypnotize WHEN they are in hypnosis.”

The very first time I demonstrated hypnosis in front of a crowd a very long time ago I was extremely nervous. I did not have the training, confidence or experience I have now, and I did not think it would work.

I did the technique, and my subject stared up at me and started laughing. Thinking on my feet I said ‘that’s right, and you can’t stop laughing, and the more you try to stop yourself the harder you laugh, and the more you laugh the more you go into hypnosis, that’s right, keep laughing now as you close your eyes down now and Sleep!.” And we went on to do a brief but successful hypnosis demonstration.

Suddenly the laughter was a product of my suggestion, and we went on to have a successful hypnosis session, and out of the many people there I was the only one who had the slightest idea that things nearly went very wrong!

You see, an instant induction is in itself a very simply process, inductions such as the hand drop induction (have them press down on your hand, palm to palm. Press up slightly on theirs to encourage them to press down harder, move your hand away and as their arm drops instruct Sleep” and the arm pull (take a hold of their hand in yours, and give a gentle but sharp tug on their arm then command Sleep) are mechanically very simple, it is what goes on behind the techniques that is key.

There are three key things that are crucial for instant induction success:

1.	Confidence. You need to appear confident in your own ability. If you don’t yet have that confidence just pretend, and act like you do.

2.	Utilisation, people will not always respond by the text book, so you need to be able to think on your feet and direct any response (or lack of response) they give you towards your hypnotic goal.

3.	Flexibility. Be creative, experiment and try out new things. You will find it hard to grow and develop as a hypnotist if you stick to the same text book method, be flexible and creative and enjoy experimenting.

Deepeners are also useful, and help to stabilize and intensify the brief trance state created by your instant induction. As long as deepeners are said with confidence, make the subject feel good, assure them that they are doing fine, and put their minds at ease, you can say anything really, from as simple as ‘5, 4, 3, 2, 1, deeper, deeper deeper, feeling good, doing wonderful, and going down’ to ‘and as you continue to feel yourself relaxing notice how easily you can allow your mind to open up to the entrancing possibilities of deepest hypnosis that you can find now as you slip deeper down, relaxing, calm, peaceful and receptive to these new ideas, feeling great and going down’ or anything else. Like all hypnotic processes deepeners are most effective when done when you yourself are in a hypnotic state of mind, and when you sound confident and relaxed.

Now, the fact is sometimes despite your best efforts it may not work, it has certainly happened to me, but it does not matter. Failure is a brilliant way to learn, and the fact is no one watching who is worth bothering with will hold it against you.

Sometimes you will be able to go right into another instant induction, acting like everything is going fine (just maintain your composure, and keep going fast, tie up the conscious mind and hypnotize them again quickly),or move rapidly into another hypnotic technique or method directly from the failure. Just because one technique didn’t work does not mean you cannot hypnotize them, so keep at it, change your tact, style and method, and see what you can do.

Other times though when nothing seems to work use this as an opportunity to learn. Ask your subjects questions and find out what was going on, and enjoy the opportunity to deepen your hypnosis skills. As a matter of ethics I never ever blame the subject or tell them that they are unhypnotizable, I would simply find out what I can and if I cannot immediately indentify and fix the problem I’d possibly say ‘perhaps we’ll try again another time.’ This may happen not too infrequently when you first begin, but as you gain confidence and experience you’ll find total failure becomes rarer and rarer.

So in summary, get out there and do it, be creative and trust your unconscious mind to provide you with the right words to say and things to do. Project relaxation and confidence from within yourself, and recognise that hypnosis is far more than a collection of techniques, but is a wonderful and unlimited process which you can create in any way you choose, provided you are flexible, utilize what you get, and are confident.

Nathan Thomas Is also the author of a brand new Advanced Hypnosis Certifcation Course which takes you from beginner to advanced. Recently I used Nathan’s course in a Behind The Scene Case Study of How To Create Your Own Hypnosis Information Product.

Learn why forgiveness is one of the most powerful tools in our toolbox. Also learn why we must forgive ourselves before we can really start healing.

This is a message I recently sent out to my mailing list and newsletter group from this blog and I thought it would make an interesting post and open up some great discussion.

So I decided to share it with all of my readers. This is just a small sample of the great stuff people in my newsletter get access to. I hope you all enjoy this post.

Hi Everyone,

I hope all is going well for you today? I got a call from one of my hypnosis students a few weeks ago and I thought the conversation I had with him would make for an interesting thread.

Recently I was teaching a few of my select students a few advanced techniques which I felt could really improve their success with their clients. I was showing them how to use a technique called “Chair Therapy”. I personally don’t like to use the term “Chair Therapy” as it implies I do therapy, which I don’t as I’m not a therapist or trained to practice therapy. I prefer to use the term “Chair Work” or “Forgiveness Work” instead and that is how I address it to my students and my clients if needed.

Chair Work is a very powerful technique, which I learned from a great hypnosis teacher named Gerald Kein who I’m sure all of you know. Basically when you use Chair Work you have the person while in hypnosis imagine, pretend or visualize that the person that has hurt them the most or whatever the situation is in a chair across from them in a room.Typically you should give suggestions that the person who hurt your client in some way is tied to the chair or locked down in the chair so they can’t hurt them. Sometimes you can even gag the other person if needed. Whatever it takes to make your client feel comfortable with moving on.

I don’t have time to go over the whole technique, but the purpose of this technique is to work out any issues, release emotions, and build up anger or guilt that your client may have toward the person in the other chair. Your end goal is to have your client express what they feel they need to say or get off of their chest so that they can forgive the person in the other chair. This technique is very powerful because locked up guilt can cause a lot of problems if not dealt with in a timely fashion. As someone once said “Forgiveness is the eraser of guilt”

My student told me he had a client who he used this technique with and he got great results during the actually technique. He got his client to forgive the person in the other chair and everyone else who the client had put in the chair. Yes, sometimes it is more than one person that may end up in the chair. Well, everything went well during the technique and the post session wrap up went well, but my student said his client called him up a few days later and reported he wasn’t feeling as good as he did before and he still had his problem. The issue being dealt with was habitually sadness also known to some as depression. He did have proper referrals as well to work with this situation. My student talked some more with the client and said they would work on some other stuff in the next session.

So he called me up for some advice and we went through a few different thoughts and ideas, but eventually we got to the part where he did chair work and I asked him to recap that part of the session with me. As he recapped it to me I noticed something I thought was quite important that he missed. Now, as Hypnotists we know there is usually more than way to get the outcome we want for our client, but I felt quite strongly that the part of the technique that my student missed was SO IMPORTANT!

He got the client to place different people in the chair across from him and he was able to forgive all of them, but he forgot one person who was very important to the whole puzzle. Can you guess whom he forgets to tell the client to place in the chair across from him?

……………..HIMSELF or should I say the actual client. My student put all these people who hurt the client in the chair, but forgot to put the client himself in the chair across from himself. Why is this so important that the client do chair work with himself? The main reason is because most of the time when you deal with situations like the one the client is seeing my student for they tend to blame themselves at some level or hold themselves in some type of content for something in the past. They basically blame themselves for something.

The client was able to forgive all these people who hurt him but he also has to be able to forgive… himself.

You would be amazed at some of the conversations people have with themselves in the chair across from them. You would be amazed at the changes that can take place from this one little technique. I told my student to add this to the next session and report back to me. Well, my student had his session with the client and added this technique to the session. It has been a couple of days since I heard from my student, but when he called he reported that his client was doing great and that the moment the client emerged from hypnosis he said to him…

“It’s strange, but now I understand why I have felt the way I have and that I don’t have to blame myself anymore”

I wrote the statement down when talking with my student as I thought those words were just so powerful! By adding that one little part to the session my student was able to finally help his client to the point where the client now had all the resources he needed to get better.

My student also reports to me that the doctor sent him a thank you letter, which is pretty rare in our line of work. Either way the point of this message is while it’s important to forgive others we must always remember to forgive ourselves if we want true healing. If you forget something in one session it’s okay because our minds are built in a way where if you mess up you can always go back and add in the stuff you forget. Our mind is very powerful and very flexible. So at the end of the day remember that we can never truly heal if we still punish ourselves.

This technique isn’t needed with every session or situation, but if you think about it, who doesn’t need to release some stuff, built in within all of us? Sometimes you will also notice that forgiveness in it’s self can actually help the client more than the hypnosis in some cases.
