Erectile Dysfunction Part 2

Since my last post on Erectile Dysfunction I have taken quite a number of calls from men with this issue. Sexual problems are often difficult to talk about especially with someone you don’t know. The feelings of shame and inadequacy that can go along with these issues only help to keep us from seeking the help available and without that help we run the risk of falling into a downward spiral as the knock on emotional effects become even harder to avoid. Then relationships may well begin to suffer and self esteem take a downward spiral. In fact the whole issue can then begin to take over one’s life.

The first thing I would say is that there is no shame in suffering from this any more than one would should feel of less value than with nay other physical or emotional issue. For some people there may be physical reasons for their inability to get or maintain an erection and like any physical issue we may have to learn how best to live a meaningful life with everything else available to us. However if all medical tests have been exhausted and there are no obvious physical problems then there is every chance that this can be helped very effectively.

The clients I have worked with in the last few months have virtually all resumed a pleasurable and rewarding sex life within just a few sessions. So the first step is to choose a therapy that you feel will be of benefit to you and an experienced practitioner that you can feel comfortable with. As far as I am concerned there is little out there that competes with the combination of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and hypnosis for fast and powerful lasting results. Over the years I have drawn together a wide range of techniques that work powerfully with EFT and hypnosis that are easy, effective and quick to use on a daily basis. For instance a vital issue to address with ED will be self confidence so how useful can you imagine it to be having the tools and techniques that will help keep that confidence high whenever and wherever you are on a daily basis.

In fact I work with ED very much as a performance nerves issue. I am using my performance enhancement techniques regularly with performers in all areas of sport and performing arts with success, and in my experience similar and appropriate techniques are the quickest and most effective way to get good results.

If you wanted to work on your golf score or had difficulty with presentations at work you would seek help to improve your confidence and self esteem. To build confidence one has to be prepared first to release any past issues that may be getting in the way. However my clients are often pleasantly surprised at how rapidly and effectively these past issues can be pinpointed and released. Once the understanding of where our old and outdated thinking patterns have come from we can then begin to replace them with a much more valuable and empowering approach.

To talk in confidence to me just call 07970 218451 and I will be happy to discuss the options available. If you feel more comfortable discussing the issues initially at an appointment then just call me or email and I will be happy to book a time for you.

Roger Foxwelll Hypnosis Workshop at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire

A big thank you today (13/02/11) to Mark O’Keefe, Principal Trumpet of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for inviting me to present a workshop to his students at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire. The workshop was an introduction on how Hypnosis, EFT and NLP can be used to enhance creativity and technique in study and performance.

Although understanding how tapping and developing a trance state to help improve performance and practise techniques can initially be something of a leap of the mind we had just one hour to explore a few of the ways to do this. However with just a few rounds of EFT tapping everyone was really beginning to get a feel for the opportunities and how this can be used on a daily basis to help with performance stress and creative development.

As you can imagine, playing the trumpet requires a lot of breath control and a lot of lung power. Using a variation of Gary Craig’s EFT “Restricted Breathing” technique within just a few rounds two of the students who volunteered were able to develop even further the invaluable techniques that Mark teaches so professionally. I have no idea how to play the trumpet but for someone who does, using EFT allowed them to literally and creatively tap into a part that knows how to learn highly effectively. As Lizzie, who volunteered to play said, “when I perform well it is as if another part of me has played almost without me being there”.

International pianist John Lill talks about reaching a state of awareness in his performing where he is almost watching himself play. Accessing this state of heightened awareness gives us the freedom to perform on another level. This is the point where the musicality and technique developed and passed on to students from a gifted teacher such as Mark O’Keefe virtually bypasses conscious thought and everything almost “plays itself”.

There are many ways to reach a heightened state of awareness and creativity, however for me EFT is one of the most effective and quickest ways to help spark the energy required to get closer to one’s full potential.

Hypnosis Clinic Glasgow

1. A hypnosis clinic can be termed as a facility that is devoted to the “diagnosis and care” of outpatients. As a clinician working with the techniques Hypnosis, Clinical Hypnotherapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) I have toyed with the idea of describing my offices as a Hypnotherapy Clinic.
However, although I am in the business of helping my clients resolve issues in their lives I am also passionate about offering my clients more than just the possibility of “diagnosis and care”. My goal is to help clients make changes that will not only release the issues that have been troubling them but also open possibilities of powerful change in their lives.
Which is why if you were passing by the door of my clinic as well as earnest and serious discussion you would also hear a lot of joy and a lot of laughter being expressed. This is not to say in any way that every issue is not treated with the respect and gravitas it deserves but having said that every client that comes through the door of my clinic, office, surgery or whatever you wish to call it is offered the tools and the opportunities to connect with and direct the quality of their own future.
On a daily basis I see clients come into my office looking nervous, upset, angry, lacking in confidence only to see them walk out an hour later smiling, relaxed and positive taking with them techniques and tools to help enhance the quality of their lives on a daily basis. This to me is the real purpose and aim of my work.
So if you would like to know more about the work I do at my hypnosis clinic Glasgow just call me on 07970 218451 and we can discuss how you could begin to discover the possibility of making some remarkable changes in your life.

Hypnotherapy and EFT can help with eating disorders

As anyone in the therapy world will tell you eating disorders are one of the trickiest issues to deal with successfully. Anorexia and Bulimia are closely related but as well as having some difference in behaviour patterns (e.g.anorexics will starve and bulemics will purge) the mental mind set is also subtly different.
There is plenty of information available about anorexic and bulemic symptoms but having strategies that work and get results is the vital piece of the jigsaw needed to help sufferers with this challenging illness. To begin with, until the person is actually prepared to admit that they have a problem it is obviously extremely difficult to get any sort of therapy started however bad the situation. Since denial is a large part of the eating disorder mind set telling someone what they should or should not be doing will rarely see any lasting results and whilst anorexics are likely to pretend they are following the help offered, bulimics will tend to politely take all the information in and metaphorically regurgitate it at the earliest opportunity.

Anorexia and Bulimia will usually be found to have developed from a deeply stressful and emotionally charged past and these issues need to be worked through and released to leave a clear place to build up self esteem and inner confidence which is invariably the other block to a return to normal eating patterns.
Although there are schools of thought that point to genetics and misfiring brain structures however true this may be we can still make massive change with the best interventions to help reorganise our view of the world we live in and our relationship with it. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Hypnosis are powerful ways to get behind the issues and help begin the process of getting real control in one’s life without having to use food as a way to make things bearable.
Medical diagnosis is as always vitally important. However if you would also like to know more about Hypnotherapy and EFT please call me on 07970 218451 or email roger@rogerfoxwell.co.uk for more information.

Lancet say drugs are not the answer to insomnia

Researchers writing in The Lancet say drugs are not the answer to insomnia. Apparently in 2010 ten million prescriptions for insomnia were given out in England alone.
These are eyewatering numbers yet drugs can also at times create more problems than they solve. And more than that, although they may be useful in the short term they can never resolve what may be the root cause of the issue. Although CBT is the therapy of choice on the NHS, my clients often get virtually immediate improvements in their sleeping patterns using hypnosis and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique.) “Sleep hygiene” techniques such as avoiding naps during the day and avoiding caffeine for quite a few hours before going to bed are well documented and important to put into practise. However thinking about activating the relaxing response is something that is most effectively going to be done within the unonscious creative mind.
When in a state of relaxed hypnosis the body is actually responding very much as is if it is in sleep. We all know that wonderful drowsy feeling when just waking up with our arms or legs feeling completely heavy and relaxed – well how best to replicate it than in hypnosis. This way we can learn how each night we can send the required messages to the mind and body to relax and drift into that sleep state. This helps break the old patterns which have been keeping us awake.
If lack of sleep is also linked to other issues or worries helping to resolve or minimise these issues will be an important part of the therapy work and EFT and hypnosis is a powerful combination in helping resolve the issues that have contributed to poor sleep.
To find out how hypnotherapy and EFT could help your sleeping patterns just call me on 07970 218451 or email roger@rogerfoxwell.co.uk

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has been in the news regularly over the last few years especially with regard to experiences of the armed forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are also many other events and experiences that can possibly occur in life that could trigger PTSD. These could include:

Serious road accidents

Terrorist activities

Natural disasters

Mugging

In fact any incident that is experienced as seriously life threatening could trigger PTSD. Ongoing bullying and family violence (witnessing or experiencing) are examples that may not immediately spring to mind but can leave the victim traumatised and unable to readapt effectively back into everyday life.

PTSD can occur in up to 30% of people who experience traumatic events and symptoms can include:

Hypervigilance

Hyperarousal

Aggresion and Anger

Insomnia

Lack of concentration

Flashbacks

There are various treatments available and Gary Craig the founder of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) has done a lot of well documented work using EFT very successfully with American military Veterans as have many other EFT practitioners. One of the great values EFT has when working with PTSDis that the client has no need to emotionally re-experience the traumatic event whilst the level of anxiety is being reduced. This can often result in very rapid results for clients and I have worked with clients with a mass of very emotionally debilitating issues that have been cleared in a time frame way quicker than their expectations.

EFT has been used very successfully for military personel, police, fire and paramedics, assault and rape victims, disaster survivors and also survivors of terrorist attacks and childhood abuse.

Hypnosis is also very powerful tool to use in these cases allowing the client to get back in touch with the relaxation part (parasympathetic) of their nervous system which has probably been effectively switched off since the traumatic experience.

Ulcerative Colitis

Reading today (14/12/11) that Manchester United footballer Darren Fletcher is suffering from the inflammatory bowel disease ulcerative colitis reminded me of a client I saw about 15 years ago with the same condition. Ulcerative Colitis is a particularly uncomfortable disease and affects the lining of the large intestine. This gastrointestinal disease can badly affect many areas of ones life and apparently there are medications that can help but none that can cure it.

As a hypnotherapist and EFT practitioner the interest for me is the connection between our emotions and physical symptoms. There is much scientific research being made at present in the research of Neurogastroenterology looking at the connections between the central nervous system and the gut. In fact it is thought that as much as 60% of our neurotransmitters are actually in the gut! It seems so obvious when I ask a client “and how do you know when you have this anxiety?” the answer will often be “I get butterflies in my stomach”. Or if I ask “what happens when you feel embarrassed?” the answer is likely to be, “I blush”.

So here we are looking at a disease that is possibly more than just a breakdown in the body’s system but also could well be triggered or exacerbated by our emotional state. There are articles from hypnotherapy and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) practitioners that suggest these therapies can help at least give some respite from this condition and that helping resolve emotional issues could well play a valuable part in taking some control back from the extremely uncomfortable symptoms. In my initial hypnotherapy training twenty years ago using hypnotherapy to help with this condition was a part of the curriculum and now more than ever modern science tells us that the mind body connection is something that we can no longer ignore.

If you would like to know more about hypnotherapy and EFT just call me on 07970 218451 or email roger@rogerfoxwell.co.uk

Latest NHS figues suggest 1 in 20 affected by Anxiety Disorder

NHS figures suggest that Generalised Anxiety Disorder affects 1 in 20 adults in Britain. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress in life but the problem arises when it becomes chronic and often without any particular identifying situation that may have triggered it.
Symptoms can include palpitations, stomach problems and constant nervous “butterflies, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. If these feelings continue for a long period of time then the situation can become chronic and the symptoms are constantly near the front of the mind. The out of control thinking then just latches on to anything to worry about such as health, relationships or money even though the anxiety may not have begun with those issues.
Hypnotherapy and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) can be the quickest and most effective way to extricate oneself from the worry and anxiety. EFT will give you techniques that not only will help release the underlying issues in the session but can be used on a daily basis to continue the improvements. Hypnosis also, in a therapeutic setting, can be a marvellous way to help resolve many underlying issues and clients regularly find it extremely relaxing both physically and emotionally.
I often find that between two to four sessions will help clients achieve major improvements in feelings of well being and healthier emotional response. As I write, a client I saw yesterday had come to see me after six months off work. We took three sessions and just three weeks to get her back to work plus a final session to tie up any loose ends and give her as much material and support to help her continue the improvements in the future.
This is not an unusual success by any means. If you would like to discuss any issues relating to anxiety, stress and worry just call me on 07970 218451 or 0141 571 1138.

Do you need help with Driving Test Nerves

Driving Test nerves can be channeled into focus and attention.
Do you have a driving test coming up and find yourself starting to worry and feel nervous?

Exams and tests are something that once we leave school and further education we often forget about. When suddenly faced with a driving test our ability to take an exam may well seem to be something from the distant past and put us into a state of panic.

Perhaps you have failed a driving test or tests before and that may well have left you with, what we call in NLP, negative anchors. Negative anchors are uncomfortable situations and experiences that trigger negative feelings when we revisit or think about them. These feelings may result in butterflies in the stomach, elevated heart rate and excessive perspiration triggered by our remembering how we previously felt.

This nervous experience could also have been a previous exam or test situation at school or elsewhere so it is important to help resolve and neutralise any old negative memories (anchors) whether they are previous driving tests or school exams so that they do not block getting the best possible result.

During our years of education we will have taken hundreds of exams and tests on a daily basis so finding ways to rediscover and use that ability in your present situation will be one of the keys to achieving success. Of course it is important that whatever we are doing we have technically prepared to our best standard to get the best result, however it is totally demoralising if that hard work and preparation is going to be sunk by nerves and a lack of confidence. Using EFT (Emtional Freedom Technique) and Hypnotherapy you can, by accessing your unconscious creative mind, let go of past and present negative thoughts and feelings and learn how to install more positive and confident feelings.

I see many clients who are about to take a driving test and find themselves in a state of worry and panic as the day gets closer. It is quite normal and natural to feel a certain amount of anxiety but wouldn’t it feel good to convert that into a feeling of excitement and positive anticipation? Excitement and anticipation that is controlled and appropriately directed will help channel your adrenaline into focus, attention and awareness helping you get the best possible result.

For a chat about how Hypnotherapy and EFT can help you pass your driving test or to book an appointment just call 07970 218451 or you can email me on roger@rogerfoxwell.co.uk

Anger, your health, relationships and work

Anger is a natural emotion that allows us to let off steam in difficult and frustrating situations. However it can be a very pervasive and damaging emotion seriously affecting not just the person suffering from it but those around them, their relationships, work, health and life.

Surveys have shown that over a quarter of the population worry about how angry they can be at times. Outbursts of anger can be caused by any number of situations including loss, frustration, perceived threat, drink and drugs and other difficult experiences that life may throw up. However the majority of people manage to cope with it allowing themselves to “cool down” and turn on the cognitive reasoning part of the brain in stressful situations. But if the anger has not been addressed properly it can soon become chronic sitting uncomfortably near the surface ready to erupt at any time.

The physical response to anger is like a sudden trigger that switches on the “fight and flight” response. Cortisol and adrenaline flood the body and this response will then be in danger of becoming permanently switched on thereby having a detrimental effect on one’s health and emotions. Repressing the anger is only a short term fix and high blood pressure, depression and insomnia are just a few of the physical manifestations that can result from suppressing anger.

To help ease any tendencies towards anger, practising yoga, listening to relaxation music and learning relaxed breathing are amongst the techniques that may help you. Also look at ways you can reduce stress in your life and look at taking time-out, exercise and giving yourself extra thinking time before you speak. These will all help you take back some control over your initial responses.

However the question “where does this anger come from and what is it all about” will probably still be there and until that question has been resolved the tendency will be for it to remain simmering close to the surface.

Hypnosis and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) are, in my professional experience ideal techniques to help resolve anger issues rapidly and effectively. Anger management is a valuable skill but wouldn’t you rather do more than just manage it? The majority of my clients can experience powerful resolutions of this type of issue in just two to four sessions helping them not only be able to manage their anger but to release the issues behind it. It often takes just a few deceptively simple insights into the root of the problem to help achieve a major and lasting improvement in relationships, self esteem and in one’s life and future.

If you would like more information on how hypnotherapy and EFT could help you with anger issues just call or email and I will be happy to speak with you.
