Google is adding new features to Gmail. In Last Post, i mentioned about to blend of google voice with gmail.
Now Google adds a feature called it as Priority Inbox in Gmail.

It helps the users to find out the important mails. It is very helpful if you receive large numbers of email. According to my experience it separates most important messages.Priority box makes easy for you to read and respond to message that matter.

How it Works

Gmail's servers look at several types of information to identify the email that's important to you, including who you email and chat with most, how often you email with these people, and which keywords appear frequently in the emails you read.

If Priority Inbox makes a mistake , you can use the buttons to correctly mark a conversation as important or not important, and Priority Inbox will quickly learn what you care about most.

Customize priority inbox : You can change what type of email you see in each section ( like switching the "important and unread" section to just "important"). Just Click on the section headers or visit the Priority Inbox tab under Setting and choose to "customize inbox groups."
Use filters to guarantee importance: if you want to be absolutely sure that some messages are always marked as important ( like email from your wife), you can set up a filter and choose "Always mark it as important."
Search by importance: if you want to see all the messages that have been marked as important, both read and unread, do a Gmail search for "is: important".
Switching back to your old inbox: If Priority Inbox isn't for you, you can easily switch back to your normal inbox by clicking "Inbox" on the left or hide Priority Inbox altogether from Gmail Settings.

Google Officially announces that now Gmail users can make calls from their Gmail accounts.

Gmail users can link their Google Voice accounts with their Gmail accounts to have their in-boxes treated like just another line that will ring when people call their Google Voice numbers, and their Google Voice number will appear on the incoming call screen of those they are calling. A Google Voice account isn't required to use the service, but international calls will be funded through Google Voice accounts.

Calls to phone numbers in the U.S. and Canada will be free, and will cost 2 cents a minute to several other countries such as France and the U.K. The service should be rolling out to Gmail users in the U.S. on Wednesday, with international availability coming at an unspecified later date.

7 Sins of Windows

The new version of Microsoft's Windows operating system, Windows 7, has the same problem that Vista, XP, and all previous versions have had -- it's proprietary software. Users are not permitted to share or modify the Windows software, or examine how it works inside.

The fact that Windows 7 is proprietary means that Microsoft asserts legal control over its users through a combination of copyrights, contracts, and patents. Microsoft uses this power to abuse computer users. At windows7sins.org, the Free Software Foundation lists seven examples of abuse committed by Microsoft.

1. Poisoning education: Today, most children whose education involves computers are being taught to use one company's product: Microsoft's. Microsoft spends large sums on lobbyists and marketing to corrupt educational departments. An education using the power of computers should be a means to freedom and empowerment, not an avenue for one corporation to instill its monopoly.
2. Invading privacy: Microsoft uses software with backward names like Windows Genuine Advantage to inspect the contents of users' hard drives. The licensing agreement users are required to accept before using Windows warns that Microsoft claims the right to do this without warning.
3. Monopoly behavior: Nearly every computer purchased has Windows pre-installed -- but not by choice. Microsoft dictates requirements to hardware vendors, who will not offer PCs without Windows installed on them, despite many people asking for them. Even computers available with other operating systems like GNU/Linux pre-installed often had Windows on them first.
4. Lock-in: Microsoft regularly attempts to force updates on its users, by removing support for older versions of Windows and Office, and by inflating hardware requirements. For many people, this means having to throw away working computers just because they don't meet the unnecessary requirements for the new Windows versions.
5. Abusing standards: Microsoft has attempted to block free standardization of document formats, because standards like OpenDocument Format would threaten the control they have now over users via proprietary Word formats. They have engaged in underhanded behavior, including bribing officials, in an attempt to stop such efforts.
6. Enforcing Digital Restrictions Management (DRM): With Windows Media Player, Microsoft works in collusion with the big media companies to build restrictions on copying and playing media into their operating system. For example, at the request of NBC, Microsoft was able to prevent Windows users from recording television shows that they have the legal right to record.
7. Threatening user security: Windows has a long history of security vulnerabilities, enabling the spread of viruses and allowing remote users to take over people's computers for use in spam-sending botnets. Because the software is secret, all users are dependent on Microsoft to fix these problems -- but Microsoft has its own security interests at heart, not those of its users.

Hide your files in jpeg File without any Software

You will only need to download WinRAR. You just need to have a little knowledge about
Command Prompt and have WinRAR installed.
1. Gather all the files that you wish to hide in a folder anywhere in your PC (make it in
C:\hidden - RECOMMENDED).
2. Now, add those files in a RAR archive (e.g. secret.rar). This file should also be in the
same directory (C:\hidden).
3. Now, look for a simple JPEG picture file (e.g. logo.jpg). Copy/Paste that file also in
C:\hidden.
4. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working
directory C:\hidden.
5. Now type: “COPY /b logo.jpg + secret.rar output.jpg” (without quotes) - Now,
logo.jpg is the picture you want to show, secret.rar is the file to be hidden, and
output.jpg is the file which contains both. :D
6. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\hidden. Open it
(double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the
same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive...
This hack will allow you to hide files in jpegs's without software installed.

How to beat keylogger

A major security concern for users of online banking / share trading is keylogging.

Simply put, a keylogger installed on your computer could pass on your login credentials (credit card information etc etc) to a cyber criminal. What the criminal could do with this information is anybody’s guess and your worst nightmare.

A recent BBC investigation revealed how a six-year-old British girl hacked into the highly sensitive computer system at the House of Commons using keyloggers. Click here for the detailed story.

The issue is compounded if you use a public computer (e.g. at a cyber cafe, airport lounge, library, hotel etc) to log into your email / banking account.

There are some simple methods that can be used to beat a keylogger (no guarantees !!):

1. Carry a portable version of Firefox with the KeyScrambler Personal add-on. (KeyScrambler Personal “encrypts your keystrokes at the kernel driver level to protect your login information from keyloggers”). You can carry this on a USB drive. Whenever you need to use a public computer, connect your USB stick and use your private secure Firefox browser.

2. Carry your passwords in a randomized manner on a USB stick. e.g. if your password is Priyanka_$_chopRA, all you have to do is carry a text file with the words Priya, ankarra, chop and RAM somewhere in a whole lot of meaningful text. While logging in, copy and paste the said words onto the password input box. A little tedious, but very effective against text keyloggers… WARNING!! – may fail against screen shot capturing keyloggers.

3. Carry a portable antivirus on your USB stick and run it on the public computer. Note: Not very effective and not very easy to do.

Virus writers charged with copyright violation

In a strange case, Japan has arrested suspected virus writers on grounds on copyright violation.
The suspects created and distributed Harada (a Trojan horse infecting users of the Winny P2P file-sharing network). The Trojan displayed images of popular animation characters while wiping MP3 and movie files.
Under Japanese Law, it is not illegal to write computer viruses and hence the suspects are being charged for copyright violation on the grounds that cartoon graphics were used without permission in the Trojan.
This is believed to be the first arrest in Japan of a virus writer.

PS: Virus writers and distributors are punishable in India with fines and imprisonment terms under the Information Technology Act.
