I'd first like to thank everyone for coming out to our film series event as well as our benefit dinner.
Thanks everyone for coming out to our 2011 Friend Raiser on the 9th! We managed to raise a good deal of money and look forward to putting it to good use over 2012!
We'd like to remind everyone that we'll be closing down the office on December 21st for the holidays. We'll be back and ready for action come January 3, 2012.Read More

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I-Renew was pretty busy leading up to the holiday. On the 22nd and 23rd the I-Renew crew went up to Lancaster, WI and helped install a 23 kilowatt solar photovoltaics array. Check out the photos Here.

Last week we had a great turnout for all our events. I'd like to thank everyone for coming. No events scheduled for this week but there are a few further down the line.

We then spent the next three days installing flat plate collectors on our Training Center for our Solar Hot Water System Install . Occupy Iowa City: Protesters install WiFi, solar panel at College Green

Demonstrators at College Green park are finding new ways to power their electronics and connect with other groups in the now-worldwide movement.
Recently donated additions to the group's infrastructure include a solar panel, materials for tent insulation, and a wireless Internet connection. Demonstrators say these improvements are helping them spend more time at the park, as well as creating a more sustainable mode of occupation.
Doug Chaney, a retiree and PATV volunteer, helped set up the solar panel donated to demonstrators by the Iowa Renewable Energy Association. He said the panel has been in a testing phase since its début at College Green, but the group is making strides toward using it as an alternative to the city's public outlets at the park gazebo.Read More

With regular unleaded gasoline hovering around $3.40 a gallon and diesel prices around $4.00 a gallon, some local people are concocting their own fuel for trucks using kitchen appliances and restaurant waste.
KOMU talked with individuals in central Missouri who make their own biodiesel. But, none of the home chemists returned our calls for an on-camera interview. Steve Fugate, an Iowa biodiesel maker, spoke to us via Skype about his process of making his own biodiesel on his farm in rural Johnson County.Read More

Vinton Wind Turbine Salvage

On July 11, 2011, an exceedingly strong storm complex barreled through east central Iowa with sustained straight line winds up to 130 mph leaving devastation in its wake. The town of Vinton, IA was one of the towns hardest hit. Homes, public buildings, cars and trees sustained heavy damage.
Vinton homeowners Dan and Kim Isbelle were lucky in that their home and cars were not damaged by the storm. Their renewable energy system, a hybrid system consisting of both solar and wind power with battery backup even protected them from the loss of electrical power suffered by so many of their neighbors. However, they did not come through completely unscathed. Read More
