5 Tips to Get More Results from Your Marketing Materials

The moment I decided to specialize as a direct response copywriter (which means you get a response directly from the marketing materials, there's no middle person involved, like a sales rep) I knew there would be one thing that would determine if I would be eating steak or eating mac and cheese.

And what's the one thing? The results I got for my clients.

Therefore, improving results became a pretty big focus of mine. You might even call it a passion. (Some people who aren't nearly as nice have called it in an obsession.)

Regardless, here are 5 tips that can help you improve the conversions of your marketing materials.

1. Know who you're talking to. If I hear anyone say "women are my potential customers" or "anyone with skin is my target market" (yes, that really was a direct quote from someone who sold Mary Kay or Arbonne or something like that) I will send my border collies (all 3 of them) to your house and force you to play fetch with them until your arm falls off. Seriously, the quickest way you can end up with the most dismal results imaginable is to try and talk to everyone. Come up with a specific customer -- the more specific the better -- and make sure your marketing materials speak directly to that customer.

2. Make sure you write benefits, not features. This one is probably the hardest one to "get" but also one of the most critical. People buy benefits, not features, so if you only talk about features you're just asking for people not to buy what you're selling.

So what is the difference between features and benefits? Features are a description of a product -- for instance, if we're talking about a diet pill, a feature would that the product is a pill. A benefit would be the solution the product provides -- in this case, losing weight.

As much as you possibly can, write about why someone should buy your product. No one buys diet pills because they like taking pills, they buy them to lose weight. Think of the solution your product or service provides and write about that.

3. Work on that headline. David Ogilvy, famous ad man and author of Confessions of an Advertising Man, has said that people make the decision to read your marketing materials based your headline.

Your headline should: a. speak to your potential customers, b. contain a benefit, c. be so compelling your target market is compelled to read further. That's a lot to ask for from basically a handful of words. So don't rush the process -- take as much time as you need to create the very best headline for your particular piece.

4. Don't forget the call to action. You've got to tell people what to do next. If you don't tell them what you want them to do, chances are they won't do anything.

Don't assume your potential customers know what you want them to do. They don't. They can't read your mind. Nor do they want to. They're busy people. They don't have the time or the energy to figure things out. Tell them what to do next, or don't be surprised when they don't do anything.

5. Use P.S.'s or captions. Postscripts (P.S.) are the second most read item in a sales piece. What's the third? Captions. (The copy under photos, diagrams or other illustrations.) Now that you know that, think of the ways you can use either or both of those items in your pieces. Maybe you put a special offer in there or you highlight a particularly compelling benefit. Or you tell them again what you want their next step to be. Whatever you do, don't waste that space.

If you even do just one of these tips, you should start seeing better results. Work on all five and you might be amazed at how much your results improve.

Alien Text Effect in Photoshop

So here is another Text Effect in Photoshop. You can use this effect to make titles for your site, printing material etc. It is quite easy tutorial, simple Blending options to use. So hopefully it will be an addition in your gallery.

1. First of all take a new file of any size, I’m going to take 560×400 px size with RGB color mode and 72 DPI.
2. Now choose any background and put it on your file like:

3. Its time to write your text over it. Try to write text in Bold font, I’ve used Impact fond with Green color:

4. Now I’m going to apply Layer Styles over this text layer (Layer >> Layer Styles), I’m going to use Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Bevel & Emboss, Gradient Overlay & finally Pattern Overlay. So chose these command one by one and apply the following settings in relevant boxes.

6. Now duplicate your image layer and place it over the Text layer. Then change the blending mode of this layer from Normal to Softlight.

7. Again duplicate this image layer and place it over the previous copied layer and change the blending mode from Normal to Overlay and reduce the opacity to 50% and fill to 50%:

Be A Performer In You Job

ver the years I have been able to maintain as a performer in my jobs. I have work for more than 5 years and I had work in a few companies before. I am able to maintain between the results of above average and outstanding every time when comes to annual performance review. Below are some of the attitude and mindset that I adopted in my job:

1. Do more than expected. When you are expected to solve 1 task, don't only solve that 1 task. Solve more than 1 task. A lot of people are not willing to do more. They thought that if they do more, they will lose out. This is not a correct mindset. Only by doing more, you will learn more. By doing more, you create additional value for yourself. And a boss likes subordinate who willing to do more.

2. When you finish your task, don't just sit there and wait for your boss to assign you the second task. Go and ask for more, be proactive. Your boss will be impress.

3. Act and think that the company is own by you. If you are the owner of your company, I am sure that you will be 100% commited when you do your work. You will do your best for your own company.

4. Learn to like your job. Like what you are doing. If you really not able to like your job, then change to a job that you like.

5. Willing to share your knowledge with others. Many people are not willing to share what they know to others because they want to keep the knowledge to themselves. They don't want other people to know that so that they can become more valuable to the company. Indeed this is not true. If you continue to keep the same knowledge to yourself, then you will not be going far. One of the important criteria to be promoted to a bigger role is that you need to know how to coach your subordinate. If you don't share what you know, then you won't be given that bigger responsibility. If you are willing to share your knowledge and you are good enough, people will know and they will respect you as an expert.

Make Orange Effects

Hello and this time we'll create extremely fill of glow wallpaper. Out theme for today is - oranges so this is why the base color of our illustration
will be orange too. Let's start by creating a document in Photoshop.

Now let's find some orange references in the net.

Here are some fine oranges to work with - but not that i will use other orange reference photo in the end ( it will be included in the set).

Here is the full composition.

So the first thing i'm going to do is - clear all the white areas and leave the background transparent. Many tactics will do here. As we have nicely done big dimension picture we can use : selections magic eraser tool and just an eraser: may things to choose from. I'm not using the single one - I'm combining selections with plain eraser.

So here is our result: As you can see it is nicely clean and has a transparent background - like just we needed.

Now back to our initial document. Copy the orange there and position it like i do.

As a background i will use paper texture. It easy to find one on the net i guess.

Set it underneath the orange layer - here we go.

It seems to me that background need a little bit more attention. I'd like to drop some stripes to the background. Here is vertical stripe with default color. i will use the same stripe with the same color in next steps.

Here is the same color stripe with blending mode set to Exclusion. in changed our color - it looks ok i think.

Then let's draw some horizontal lines too: oh did i say draw ? you can just copy the ones that you have.

As

you can see -one line is smaller than the other and the colors vary too. This is actually our very first line with different layer blending modes.

Here is the result:

SO a think we are done shaping the document. i think it is time to begin to adjust colors and add some elements to it.

First take any texture brush you have, create a layer next to paper texture layer set it to overlay.

Now let's take care of our Orange - main object. First i would like to apply some of layer effects using layer styles.

Here are the settings.

As you can see i used glow filters only.

Zoom in a little bit - there is also a good way to add local contrast to the are - you just create a layer underneath the object layer set it's mode to overlay or soft light and paint with White using soft edged brush - Airbrush (with opacity set to 3-9%).

Our next step will be the creation of deco elements to the object - the orange. I will pick a HR floral brush. So create a layer underneath the orange layer but upper than all the layers with the stripes. Choose Floral brush ( download ) pick white color and do just one tap.

... a little bit more of those.

....a little bit overlay to the orange and we are done there. so here is the result - note that there is another orange ( see support files ). See you next time.

Make Carbon Fiber Hood

Step 1:

Okay, we'll be using this car and we're going to cf the hood.

Step 2:

Using the polygonal lasso tool, select the part of the car you would like to
carbon fiber. Then press ctrl+c and ctrl+v to make it a new layer.

Step 3:

Press ctrl+click on the new layer of the hood to select it. now go to image>adjustments>replace color. now use the eyedropper tool to select a color on the hood that covers the majority of the hood. then go to the bottom of the window and choose a really dark, desaturated green color. and bring the fuzziness to 200. this allows to keep the colored reflections from the original hood. press okay and you can mess with the brightness and contrast or levels to your liking if you wish.

Step 4:

Now we are going to use this cf pattern(credit to patel...i just found it on some other tutorial).

Step 5:

So stretch the pattern until it covers the hood, and then ctrl+click on the hood layer. then press ctrl+shift+i to invert the selection. then press ctrl+x to cut.

Step 6:

Ok, now name that layer cf1. change blending mode to soft light and change the layer opacity to 80. now the thing with carbon fiber is, less is more. in pics of real carbon, you never see the pattern on the entire hood because it is so light-sensitive. so set your eraser to 25% and 0 hardness at a fairly big size and start fading away the carbon fiber. the farther away the cf, the less of the pattern you see. also, if there are indents and shaping on the hood, want to make sure that the cf pattern does not go straight over them.

Step 7:

Now we are going to repeat this step with a different carbon pattern (credit goes to however made this image...i dont remember where i found it). this step is optional given it works much better on other pics than others. Name this layer cf2. So take this pattern and set the blending mode to soft light, and change the opacity to 40-50. repeat the erasing step.

Step 8:

Now your image should look like this.

Step 9:

You can mess around more with the contrast and saturation if you like, but your final product should look something like this.

PHP is a technology that was introduced in 1994 by Rasmus Lerdorf. Some early unpublished version used on his personal site for anyone who is accessing the record resumes onlinennya.
