Okay, Let’s Talk About My Trader Joe’s Protein Pancake Obsession

If you know, you knowwww. The Trader Joe’s ready-made protein pancakes? I am OBSESSED. Like, truly. My kids and I could eat them every single day and not get sick of them.

There was a solid stretch where I was going to Trader Joe’s daily just to grab them. My store even had a strict three-per-person limit, and trust me, they were not messing around with that rule. It honestly felt personal lol!

And if I didn’t get there early enough? Forget it. Completely sold out. Every time. I remember standing there one morning, staring at an empty shelf, thinking… how is this my life right now? So, after going FOUR days in a row and coming home empty-handed, I finally hit my limit. I needed a backup plan. Not something complicated. Not something time-consuming. Just something easy that actually works.

So I decided to make my own Trader Joe’s protein pancake dupe.

And honestly? They are incredible! They taste just like the Trader Joe’s protein pancakes, but cleaner, fluffier, more filling, and with added fiber! Win, win, win!!

Why This Copycat Trader Joe’s Protein Pancake Recipe Is Better

I will always have love for the original. It’s a genuinely great convenience product.

But once I started making this homemade dupe, I realized a few simple swaps could give me something even better.

These protein pancakes are:

High in protein (about 20g per 5-pancake serving)

High in fiber (thanks to chia seeds and protein oats)

Gluten free

No added sugar

Made with 6 simple ingredients (no gums, fillers, or weird stuff)

The biggest difference? They actually keep me full for hours.

And, bonus, you get to eat more pancakes for the same amount of protein. I’ll take that any day.

What You’ll Need

The full ingredient list with measurements is in the recipe card below, but here are the three things worth highlighting because they make the biggest difference:

Bob’s Red Mill Protein Oats. These are the secret to the protein and fiber boost. Regular oats work, but you’ll lose a few grams of protein per serving.

2% Good Culture cottage cheese. Full-fat works too. The cottage cheese is what makes them taste like Trader Joe’s.

SweetLeave Sweet Drops – vanilla flavored stevia sweetener. A 3-second squirt is all you need but the flavor makes a BIG difference for zero calories!!

Everything else (egg whites, chia, cinnamon) is probably already in your kitchen.

The easiest recipe ever using these very simple ingredients!

My Best Tips for Fluffy Protein Pancakes

The full instructions are in the recipe card below, but the technique is what makes or breaks the texture. I learned that the hard way. Here are the four things that matter most:

Blend until silky smooth

The smoother the batter, the lighter and fluffier the pancakes turn out. A regular blender is fine. A food processor works too in a pinch.

Let the batter rest 15 minutes

This step is non-negotiable for me. It gives the chia seeds and protein oats time to absorb the liquid, which is what creates that fluffy, almost-bakery texture. Skip it and you’ll get pancakes that are denser and a little gummy in the middle.

Use a good pancake pan

A good pancake pan is absolutely worth buying. It makes everything easier. No sticking, no weird flipping moments, no ruined pancakes. What’s more is that it’s super easy to clean, dishwasher and oven safe, the perfect square shape for making pancakes, and contains ZERO toxins.

This pan. It’s worth it. [affiliate link in the post!!]

This is the pan I use and love!

Before heating the pan, I spray avocado oil onto a paper towel and wipe it onto the pan. This gives you a super light, even coating without overdoing it (which can make pancakes greasy or weirdly textured).

Then preheat the pan for a full 90 seconds before adding any batter. This step is KEY. A properly preheated pan is the difference between fluffy, golden pancakes and pale, stuck-on disasters.

Don’t flip too early

I do small 2 to 3 inch rounds because they cook more evenly and are way easier to flip. Wait until bubbles form on the surface and the edges start to set. That’s how you know they’re ready. Flip, cook another 30 seconds to 1 minute, and you’re done.

How Many Pancakes Does This Make?

Around 20 to 27 small pancakes, depending on how thoroughly you blend the batter.

Smoother batter = more, slightly thinner pancakes

Thicker batter = fewer, fluffier pancakes

Both versions are amazing. I usually aim for somewhere in the middle.

Protein Breakdown: My Dupe vs. Trader Joe’s

Here’s where the homemade version really pulls ahead.

Trader Joe’s protein pancakes:

4 pancakes = 20g protein

Contains added sugar

My homemade Trader Joe’s protein pancake dupe:

5 pancakes = ~20g protein

Zero added sugar

Added fiber from chia seeds and protein oats

I personally eat 9 pancakes, which gets me roughly:

~37g protein

~10g fiber

And I stay full for hours. If you’re trying to hit your protein goals or just stop the constant snacking spiral, this kind of breakfast is a game changer.

How to Serve

We mix it up depending on the day!!!

Butter and a little maple syrup (it’s a classic for a reason) Note: I love this sugar-free maple syrup!

Fresh strawberries or sliced banana

A scoop of Greek yogurt for extra protein

Almond butter and chia jam

Or honestly… straight from the fridge while standing at the counter. Mom life!!

Verdict? Better than the boxed version. Trust me on this one.

Storage + Freezer Tips

If they don’t all get eaten right away (rare in this house, but it happens):

Fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. They reheat beautifully in the microwave for about 20 seconds or in the toaster for crispy edges.

Freezer: Let pancakes cool completely, then store in a freezer-safe bag with parchment between layers. They’ll keep for up to 2 months. Reheat straight from frozen in the toaster or microwave.

This is the move for busy mornings. Pull out 5 pancakes, microwave for 30 seconds, and you’ve got a balanced breakfast in less time than it takes to pour cereal.

Substitutions and Swaps

People always ask, so here are the swaps I’ve tested:

No protein oats? Regular rolled oats work, but you’ll lose a few grams of protein per serving.

No liquid egg whites? Use 4 large egg whites plus a splash of water.

No cottage cheese? Greek yogurt works, but the texture comes out slightly denser.

No chia seeds? Ground flaxseed is a fine 1:1 swap.

Want it sweeter? Add a ripe banana or a scoop of vanilla protein powder (just check the macros).

Troubleshooting: Why Are My Protein Pancakes Falling Apart?

Three usual suspects:

You didn’t let the batter rest. Those 15 minutes really matter. That’s when the chia and oats hydrate.

The pan wasn’t hot enough. Always preheat for the full 90 seconds.

You flipped too early. Wait for bubbles plus set edges. Trust the process.

FAQ: Trader Joe’s Protein Pancakes Dupe

Are these pancakes really gluten free?

Yes, as long as you use certified gluten-free protein oats (Bob’s Red Mill Protein Oats ARE certified gluten-free!). All other ingredients in this Trader Joe’s protein pancake dupe are naturally gluten free.

Can I make these without a blender?

Technically, but I really don’t recommend it. The blender is what creates that smooth, fluffy texture. A food processor works too in a pinch.

How does the protein content compare to actual Trader Joe’s protein pancakes?

Trader Joe’s gives you about 20g of protein in 4 pancakes. My homemade version gets you the same 20g in 5 pancakes, with no added sugar and added fiber. Eat 9 like I do, and you’re at 37g of protein for breakfast. OMG!!!

Can I make the batter the night before?

Yes. Blend, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Give it a quick stir in the morning before cooking.

Are these kid-friendly?

Ohh yes they are! My kids genuinely prefer these to the ready-made Trader Joe’s version. We all love them cold the most with maple syrup!

Can I use whey protein powder instead of protein oats?

Not as a 1:1 swap. Protein powder doesn’t absorb liquid the same way oats do. You can add half a scoop on top of the recipe, but then you need to reduce the egg whites slightly to balance the texture. I’d stick to the recipe I’m sharing!

How many calories per pancake?

Roughly 35-45 calories per pancake depending on size. A 5-pancake serving comes in around 200 calories with 20g of protein.

Why are my pancakes gummy in the middle?

This usually means the pan wasn’t hot enough or the pancakes are too thick. Stick with 2-3 inch rounds and preheat the pan a full 90 seconds.

How do these compare to Trader Joe’s ready-made protein pancakes?

Side by side, my homemade version wins on texture (fluffier), macros (no added sugar, more fiber), and ingredient list (6 clean ingredients, no gums or fillers). The Trader Joe’s ready-made version still wins on convenience for the mornings you don’t have 30 minutes. That’s why whenever I make them, I usually make a big giant batch and freeze them. Best of both worlds!! As for the taste – they are similar, really! The Trader Joe’s ones are definitely sweeter but I personally prefer my less sweet version paired with sugar-free or regular maple syrup!

Trust Me on This One!

This is one of those recipes that just makes life easier.

It’s simple, filling, and made with ingredients I feel great about feeding myself and my kids. And the fact that I don’t have to rely on Trader Joe’s being stocked? Game. Changer.

If you make this Trader Joe’s protein pancake dupe, you HAVE to tell me. I love hearing what you all think. Tag me @thedanaivy or send a photo. It genuinely makes my day!!

I’ll be honest—my husband and I never imagined we’d be a trampoline family. From our perspective, backyard trampolines felt like an accident waiting to happen. All we could picture were broken bones, emergency room visits, and a whole lot of liability right in our backyard. But after years of saying “absolutely not,” to our two wild and crazy boys, we finally decided to do a little research—and what we discovered changed our minds completely.

This post is in partnership with Fenceworks located in Northbrook, IL. As always, all opinions are 100% honest, my own, and never influenced by anyone. Thank you for supporting brands and businesses that make The Dana Ivy – Real Mom Life possible =)

Spoiler alert: not all backyard trampolines are created equal.

When we connected with Fenceworks about their trampolines, we quickly learned that choosing the right trampoline is about so much more than just “finding a good deal.” Fenceworks only carries products they trust to be the safest, most durable, and most family-friendly on the market. Their team stays on top of new trampoline options and is always evaluating the latest models to ensure families get the very best in backyard fun — with safety always at the top of mind.

Why We Trusted Fenceworks With Our Backyard Trampoline

We chose a large, high-quality trampoline that fit our yard, our family’s needs, and (most importantly) our peace of mind. With Fenceworks’ help, we were able to find an option with excellent shock absorption, high-quality enclosure nets, and a super sturdy frame — all features that made us feel so much better about finally saying yes to our kids’ trampoline dreams.

Add-On Fun: Basketball Hoop Bonus

To make things even more exciting, we added on a basketball hoop accessory — and let me tell you, it’s a backyard game changer. It responds to intense play just like a real hoop and seriously holds up against allllll the slam dunks and wild shots my boys can throw at it. Compared to our neighbor’s setup (which honestly looks like it could blow over any minute (and many times it does) — I hope they don’t read this lol), ours is ROCK SOLID. No joke!

Built to Last—And It Shows

From the moment it was installed, you could tell this trampoline was in a different league. It doesn’t shake in the wind, the frame is ultra-sturdy, and the netting is super secure. A backyard trampoline should inspire confidence—not anxiety—and thanks to Fenceworks, ours absolutely does.

Rest Zones = Genius

Let’s be honest—more than one kid is going to be on the trampoline at the same time. That’s why I love the Rest Zones. These are gym-quality foam pad areas where kids can sit safely if they’re waiting for a turn or just need a breather. The net is also placed outside the trampoline poles, which gives more space and reduces injury risk. It’s one of those design details that just makes sense.

Zipper-Free Netting? Yes, Please!

One more thing that deserves a major shoutout: no zippers. The netting is high-impact and designed to last without dealing with ripped zippers or stuck latches. It’s the little things, right?

What to Look for in Backyard Trampolines

Now that we’ve lived with our trampoline for a bit, here are the top five things I recommend looking for if you’re shopping around:

1. Safety First (Always)

Before anything else, safety was our top priority. We wanted a backyard trampoline that would help our kids burn off energy, not give us a panic attack every time they jumped. Fenceworks takes this seriously. Every trampoline they offer is thoroughly vetted to ensure no exposed springs, high-quality enclosures, superior shock absorption, and peace of mind for parents. YESSS.

2. Durability That Withstands the Midwest

If you live in the Chicagoland area like we do, you KNOW that winters are brutal and summers can be scorching. We needed a trampoline that could handle it all—and Fenceworks delivered. These childrens trampolines are engineered to last and hold up beautifully through rain, snow, crazy wind, heat and constant kid chaos. We needed a trampoline that could hold up to it all, and thanks to Fenceworks’ expert recommendations, we found one that’s truly built to last.

3. Professional Installation Is a Must

I’m just gonna say it: we were not interested in DIYing a backyard trampoline. Fenceworks made it so easy with their full-service installation. They handled everything from an on-site visit prior to installation day, delivery to setup, and they can help you out with maintenance if you ever need it. It’s peace of mind I didn’t even know I needed.

4. Make Sure It Fits Your Family and Your Yard

Fenceworks doesn’t just try to sell you the biggest (or most expensive) model. Their team listens to your needs, measures your space, and helps guide you to the perfect trampoline for your family’s size, age ranges, and backyard layout.

5. Long-Term Value Over Short-Term Deals

Yes, you can absolutely find cheaper childrens trampolines online—but with Fenceworks, you’re investing in something that’s safer, sturdier, and supported by real people. It’s true what they say—you get what you pay for! And in this case, it’s premium quality, long-lasting materials, professional support, and guaranteed safety. Plus, they actually guarantee to beat manufacturer pricing and will always guide you toward the best option for your family.

More Reasons We Love Fenceworks

Fenceworks isn’t just about trampolines. They also sell and install basketball hoops, playsets, and fencing. We actually bought our backyard playset from them five years ago—after doing a lot of research—and it’s still going strong! Their products are durable, thoughtfully designed, and just feel like the kind of backyard upgrades you’re going to enjoy for yearssss to come!

They’re a third-generation, family-owned business with 57+ years of experience in the Chicagoland area. They treat their customers like family, and their reputation proceeds them. They’re not the cheapest, but the value they provide is next-level.

So, whether you’re upgrading your yard with a trampoline, playset, hoop, or fence, Fenceworks is the trusted name for families in Illinois (and parts of Wisconsin too!).

If You’re on the Fence (No Pun Intended…)

If you’re even thinking about investing in backyard trampolines or children’s trampolines, take it from someone who once said “never, nope, not happening”—this could be the best decision you make for your family!! Now that we have one, my one regret is not ordering it sooner! Our kids are obsessed, and I’m obsessed with the fact that they have a safe, fun, screen-free outlet every day (weather permitting!). It 2000% has been the best mom life buy of 2025 so far!!! And our backyard is now the place to be!!!

If you’re on a journey to eat more protein like I am, you know it can feel like a full-time job hitting your goals some days. Am I right or am I right? One thing that’s kept me consistent — and, honestly, sane — is having a stash of go-to protein bars that I actually *like* with me at all times.

And if you know me, you know I have a serious soft spot for anything mint chocolate. It’s my flavor love language. So it’s no surprise that when I’m picking out my bars, I usually reach for the mint chocolate protein bars first!

Some of the bars I love are super clean with amazing ingredients, and some are… well, a little more candy-bar-like. But here’s the deal: they all help me stay consistent with the way I eat, and that’s what matters most to me. Progress over perfection, mamas!!

So, whether you’re hunting for clean eats or just something that feels like a treat while still supporting your health and protein goals, here’s my tried and true list — no gatekeeping here!

Let’s get into it — check out the lineup of bars I’m loving right now!

My Favorite Protein Bars

Scroll all the way to shop each bar right here via this post!!

Barebelles

These feel like dessert in the best way. Each flavor is better than the next and while the ingredients are not as clean as other bars, they are higher in protein, super satisfying, and a total win when you’re craving chocolate but still want to stay on track.

Perfect Bar Mini – PB & J

These are tiny but mighty! Not mint chocolate, but still a go-to for me when I need a quick, satisfying snack on busy days. You have to keep it in the refrigerator but it is filling and delish!

Truvani The Only Bar

Simple, real ingredients, and no weird aftertaste. Not flashy, but solid — and sometimes that’s exactly what I’m craving. It also comes in a ton of flavor options and they are all so yummy!

88 Acres Bar – Banana Bread

More cozy than “protein powerhouse,” but I love the flavor when I’m wanting something different. (Plus, allergen-friendly!)

GoMacro Bar – Mint Chocolate Chip

One of my all time favorite mint chocolate protein bars! Soft, chewy, and seriously tastes like a treat. I could eat these daily. (Let’s be real, I basically do.)

Original Perfect Bar

An old-school favorite. Hearty, filling, and packed with good-for-you ingredients. You have to keep it refridgerated but it feels like a PB fudge bar when you take it out! While I typically do reach for the peanut buttery goodness of the Original, I do know they have a Mint Chocolate version that I have yet to try but need to!

Built Bar Puff – Mint Chip

If you’re looking for mint chocolate protein bars that taste like marshmallow-y Thin Mints, this is it. Fluffy, minty, delicious — I AM OBSESSED. Pro tip: keep some of them in the fridge because they are delish cold but also at night for a protein filled snack, I 10/10 recommend taking it out of the wrapper, sandwiching it between two graham crackers (gluten free graham crackers in my case) and melt in the microwave for 10 seconds! You’ll have yourself a high-protein minty s’more!!!!!!! It’s actually insane how epic it tastes!!!

Other Built Bar Puff flavors I love are the Coconut and the Brownie Batter

RX Bar – Chocolate Sea Salt

This is a staple for me! It’s salty, chewy, satisfying, and packed with only a few ingredients that you can actually read!

They are Kid-Approved Too!

Another thing you’ll appreciate? My kids are just as obsessed with these bars as I am. And yours will be too! Brody, Levi, and Demi especially love the Built Bar Puffs, Perfect Bars, Barebelles, and the GoMacro Bars. It’s such a win when I find snacks that feel like a treat to them but still check all the boxes for me.

Whether it’s a quick bite before sports, a snack packed in their backpacks, or something easy to grab while we’re running around, these bars have truly become a staple for all of us. Honestly, some days I’m lucky if I can keep enough in the house — they go that fast. I’ve even been known to hide the Built Bar Puffs just so I can make sure I have one left for myself. LOL no shame in that game.

Why I’m Team Mint Chocolate Protein Bars Forever

Mint chocolate protein bars are elite, if you ask me!!! They are refreshing and indulgent at the same time. Plus, when I’m looking for a protein bar that actually feels like a treat instead of a chore, all of these bars, but especially the mint chocolate protein bars hit every single craving.

For me, having mint chocolate protein bars in my daily lineup keeps me excited about my snacks instead of bored or tempted by less nutritious options. My suggestion is to find a few bars and start buying them in your favorite flavors first. Then expand to try some other varieties! Because the fact is that consistency is the real key when it comes to eating more protein — and finding protein bars that you actually look forward to eating (like the mint chocolate protein bars for me) makes that consistency so much easier.

Keeping It Real About Protein Bars

I’m a firm believer that healthy habits should fit your real life — not the other way around. Sometimes I’m reaching for the cleanest bar ever, and sometimes I just want a candy-bar-feeling protein boost. Both are totally fine and more than okay! And full disclosure: I’m no nutritionist, but I will tell you that being restrictive has never been the answer for me. Please don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!!!!!

If you have a favorite protein bar that you think I’d love, send it my way! Bonus if there’s a mint flavor available haha. I’m always looking for new options to add to my rotation!!!

1. Create a Drop Zone (AKA Save Your Sanity Station)

First up, if you don’t have a designated “drop zone” yet, you NEED one, mama. I’m talking about a spot near the door where backpacks, lunch boxes, sneakers, and all the random stuff can live. (Many times referred to as the mudroom — although our kids hilariously call it the “shoe room” haha.) One of my favorite home hacks is using cute baskets for each kid so the mess has a home (and it’s semi-contained… semi lol).

2. Meal Prep Like It’s Your Superpower

Now let’s talk about food — because if there’s one thing that can completely derail a summer day, it’s the dreaded “what’s for dinner?!” moment around 5p. I get it, meal prepping sounds a little intense. But hear me out: take a day to toss a few meals together and prep some freezer smoothie bags because it can make a huge difference in your sanity! For real, try it!!! (Here are 10 simple & quick weeknight dinners the whole family will love to get you started!)

3. Set Up a Snack Station

Now let’s talk about the snack situation. Because once summer hits, it feels like kids ask for food every five minutes. Instead of losing your mind, set up a snack station they can actually manage themselves. Think: pre-portioned, mom-approved snacks in a basket or bin they can reach. Served in a divided tray or kept in the fridge at all times, fresh fruit and cut-up veggies are always a win to have ready for the kids to grab at their convenience, too! It’s one of those home hacks that keeps you from being a short-order chef all day long and teaches them a little independence. Win-win!

4. Declutter the “Hot Spots”

You know those areas where junk just magically appears? (Looking at you, kitchen counter, eeeks.) Pick a day to do a quick 20-minute “power declutter” of those hotspots. Less clutter = less visual stress. This is one of my most underrated home hacks because it’s so simple but makes a huge difference.

5. Prep Your Car for Summer Living

Our cars basically turn into second homes in summer, am I right or am I right? Load a small bin with essentials: wipes, sunscreen, extra water bottles, a change of clothes, and a few non-melty snacks. This home hack saves me on the daily when I inevitably forget something running from activity to activity.

6. Set Up a Chore Chart Reboot

Trust me, even the littles can handle small jobs! Assign age-appropriate chores and maybe even tie it to a summer reward chart. It keeps them busy, teaches responsibility, and lightens your load. Check out these FREE chore charts created by yours truly! They work!!

7. Create a Family Fun Jar

This is one of my favorite hacks for keeping summer days feeling exciting and low-stress. Grab a jar, some colorful popsicle sticks or slips of paper, and brainstorm fun family activities. Write one idea per stick, and anytime you hear “I’m bored,” just let a kid pull a stick for a surprise plan! You can tailor it to your family’s vibe — indoor, outdoor, budget-friendly, etc.

And don’t forget to download my FREE “Summer Family Fun Jar Ideas” printable for 30 easy ideas ready to go!

8. Make a DIY Sunscreen Station

Put a basket filled with different types of sunscreen (spray, stick, lotion) right by the door. We actually keep ours outside directly next to our front door! That way, it becomes a habit to grab and apply before starting the day. This tip is a game-changer!

9. Pack Ready-to-Go Pool Bags

Keep a couple of bags packed with towels, goggles, and swimsuits. When the sun is shining and a pool day invite pops up, you can just grab and go without the mad scramble. Genius, I know!

10. Keep a Collapsible Laundry Basket in the Car

Seriously, you’ll never regret having a spot to toss wet swimsuits, sandy clothes, or muddy soccer cleats instead of letting them soak into your car seats. One of the easiest, low-effort hacks that feels next-level organized! This collapsible laundry basket works well!

11. Stash Simple Craft Supplies for Rainy Days

Grab a bin and stock it with construction paper, markers, beads, glue sticks, etc, etc — basically, all the things!! When the inevitable “I’m bored!” hits during a rainy afternoon, you’ll have a mini craft camp ready without any extra prep. I recommend keeping these 8 art supplies in your home at all times!

Let’s Put these Home Hacks to Good Use…

Honestly, prepping now with these little home hacks can make such a huge difference in how chaotic summer feels. A little planning = a lot less chaos… and way more time to actually enjoy those messy, amazing summer memories that fly by way too fast. Instead of scrambling for sunscreen or picking up wet towels, we’re making lemonade stands, jumping on the trampoline nonstop, and roasting s’mores in the backyard.

Because, let’s be real, it’s never about having a “perfect” summer — it’s about creating space to be present for the good stuff! Am I right or am I right??

And just to drive my point home even more, we all know summer is already busy in the best way. But when your home is set up to support the madness instead of fighting it, everything feels a little lighter. You’ll find yourself saying “yes” to more last-minute ice cream trips, “yes” to one more splash in the pool, and “yes” to soaking up every single little moment. YESSSS to that!

So do a little prep now, and savor every sunny second later!

Ugh, chores! They’re not so fun as adults and we all know kids don’t want to do them either. As a mom of three wild kids who have minds and agendas of their own – ages 9, 7, and 3 – I’ve had my fair share of struggles (read: meltdowns, bribes, and desperate negotiations) in getting them to stay on top of their responsibilities. But after a whole lot of trial and error, I’ve finally found some strategies that actually work to effortlessly manage my kids doing chores — and I’m so excited to share them with you today! Plus, I’m giving away FREE editable printable chore charts by age to help you get started! With 100% certainty I can tell you that they’re going to make your life WAY easier immediately, so keep reading to grab them!

Why Giving Your Kids Chores Is a Good Thing

Teaching kids to handle chores isn’t just about keeping the house clean — it’s helping them build real life skills. Here’s why chores matter:

Responsibility: Regular chores help kids learn to own their tasks.

Time Management: Balancing chores with school and play teaches them to manage their time effectively.

Teamwork: Chores build a sense of cooperation and belonging at home.

It’s not just about having a clean living room (though, let’s be real, that’s a nice bonus too)!!!

The Power of the Chart:

These little charts are actually magical (lol, you best believe I just called chore charts magical!!!), helping your kids take ownership of their responsibilities and creating a smoother, less-stressful household for everyone (hallelujah!). To get more specific, printable chore charts work because they:

Visualize expectations: Kids thrive on a clear routine, and a chart clearly shows what needs to be done.

Empower and motivate: There’s something SO satisfying about checking off a completed task!

Reduce nagging: The chart becomes the constant reminder, not you!

Tips for Effective Chore Tracking

1. Create a Chore Schedule

Consistency is everything. Assign specific chores to specific days or times so your kids know exactly what’s expected.

2. Use Visual Aids

Charts, stickers, and colorful markers = total game-changers. My kids love seeing their progress!

3. Set Clear Expectations

Demonstrate how you want tasks done. A little upfront effort saves you SO much frustration later. Trust me on that one.

4. Incentivize Special Tasks

For extra-big tasks (think washing the car or organizing a messy closet), offer small rewards! Everyday chores should just be part of the routine, but special ones can come with a little bonus.

5. Be Consistent

Like everything in parenting, consistency is key. Stick with the system, even when life gets chaotic.

Chore Chart Ideas for Different Age Groups

One size definitely does not fit all when it comes to chores. That’s why I created three different printable chore charts based on age! Here’s what works best:

Toddlers (Ages 3-5):

Use bright colors and pictures to represent chores.

Reward completed tasks with fun stickers.

Keep it simple and focus on a few age-appropriate tasks like putting away toys or picking up clothes.

Elementary School Age Kids (Ages 6-9):

Create a responsibility chart that breaks down daily and weekly chores.

Let your child help create their chart! This, of course, fosters ownership!!

Older Kids (Ages 10+):

Allow your kids to write in their chores themselves on a fill-in-the-blank type printable chore chart. Discuss with them what their ongoing responsibilities are!

Hold a quick family meeting each week to discuss completed chores, address any issues, and set goals for the upcoming week.

There are tons of awesome chore chart apps out there for older kids who would rather embrace technology! Explore them with your child and find one that fits your family’s style.

Introducing Free Printable and Customizable Chore Charts by Age!

Let’s Start with A Little Background on my PCOS Journey

As a 40-year-old mom of three, my health has officially entered the chat. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16, and for years, I managed it with medication. I was on Metformin from the time I was diagnosed until I found out I was pregnant with Brody at age 30. That’s when I stopped taking it—and for the past 10 years, I hadn’t been actively treating my PCOS at all with PCOS supplements or medication.

Over time, the symptoms built up. I was juggling fatigue, bloating, hormone imbalances, and general burnout—all while raising three kids and managing the chaos of everyday life. I got so used to feeling that way, I almost forgot what it felt like to feel good!! Just me??

Turning 40 Has Been a Big Reality Check

And if I’m being honest, turning 40 has been a big reality check as a whole. It’s true what they say—things really do start to break down the older you get. You can’t just skate by and expect your body to keep up without giving it the support it needs.

Case in point! Just months before my big milestone birthday, I had emergency gallbladder surgery—completely out of the blue! To say that it rocked me is an understatement!!!! If I hadn’t gone to the hospital that night, I might not be here writing this today. That experience changed my perspective in a major way. Health isn’t something you can keep putting off for “later.” It’s something you have to fight for now.

The Wake-Up Call I Needed

Fast forward to my recovered self a few months after surgery, and I found out I had a vitamin D deficiency—and that was my final wake-up call! I knew it was time to start truly taking care of myself—not just for me, but for my family too. I started digging into what my body actually needed, focusing on finding the best supplements for PCOS and building a routine I could stick with.

My High-Protein Diet + Supplements That Actually Work

One of the biggest shifts? I moved to a high-protein diet (making sure to get at least 30-40g of protein at every meal), which has been game-changing for balancing my blood sugar, energy, and cravings. Pairing that with the right PCOS supplements has made all the difference in how I feel every single day.

After a lot of trial and error (and way too many bottles on my counter), this is the supplement routine that’s finally working for me—it might seem excessive (I know, I know) but it’s actually very simple, intentional, and targeted for my PCOS health.

Quick Note Before We Dive In

I am definitely not a doctor, and this post isn’t meant to be medical advice. I’m just sharing what’s been working for me personally. I made sure to get all of these supplements okayed by my own doctor before adding them to my daily routine. Before trying anything I mention here, make sure to do your own research, talk to your healthcare provider, and figure out what’s best for your body. Every body is different—and this is simply what’s been helping me feel my best!

Morning Routine: Metabolism, Gut Health, and Energy Support

I like to start my day with supplements that support gut health, hormone balance, and energy production—especially since managing PCOS naturally takes a multi-layered approach.

On an empty stomach:

Arrae MB-1 – A powerful probiotic-metabolic blend that reduces bloating, balances the gut microbiome, and supports healthy fat metabolism. Essential for anyone serious about finding the best supplements for PCOS.

Veracity Metabolism Ignite – My metabolism booster that also includes a small, balanced dose of Ashwagandha to help manage cortisol levels naturally—without making me feel overly tired like a high-dose Ashwagandha did.

Inositol – This is absolutely crucial for PCOS management. Helps regulate hormones, improve insulin sensitivity, and support metabolic health.

Nectar Electrolytes – Clean hydration that jumpstarts my energy first thing in the morning. My favorite flavors are the Watermelon and Lemon.

With breakfast:

Love Wellness Daily Love Multivitamin – Covers all the basics for women’s wellness, immunity, and hormone balance.

Ferrosorb (Thorne Brand of Iron) – Supports energy, reduces fatigue, and improves iron stores. I always pair it with a vitamin C-rich food (like berries) to boost absorption.

Fatty15 – A cellular health powerhouse that supports metabolism and long-term wellness goals. PS this link I’m sharing gets you 20% off!!

Brainiac Brain Pack Gummies – Omega-3s for sharper focus, memory support, and brain function. I swear they work!

Something to note is that I mix Further’s Chocolate Collagen Powder into my coffee pretty much every morning or mid-afternoon! It’s great for glowing skin, strong joints, and I’m obsessed with the not-too-sweet but absolutely delicious chocolatey flavor. It’s an easy way to sneak collagen into my day and add some extra protein! Hot tip: buy the single serving packs and always keep them with you in your purse!!

Evening Routine: Recovery, Blood Sugar Support, and Relaxation

Evenings are all about setting myself up for good sleep, balanced blood sugar, and a calm nervous system.

With dinner:

Vitamin D (Thorne Brand, 1000 IU) – Essential for energy, mood, hormone support, and immune function. Especially important for those with PCOS, where vitamin D deficiencies are common. I also love this exact brand because I love that the pills are TINY!

Berberine (Ultra Herbs Brand) – Helps regulate blood sugar and insulin levels, a huge key to managing PCOS naturally. Berberine is one of the best supplements for PCOS when it comes to blood sugar control. And I like this particular brand because it includes turmeric which has a million benefits on it’s own!

After dinner or before bed:

Wondercow Colostrum Capsules – Supports a healthy gut lining and strengthens the immune system—two things often overlooked in traditional PCOS care. I also swear it helps with hair growth and keeping my postpartum locks healthy and voluminous. A few months ago, I stopped taking it because four pills felt like a lot. Pretty quickly, I noticed a huge difference—so much of my hair started falling out in the shower. That same night, I went online and ordered a million packs of it because I never want to run out again. It’s officially a non-negotiable in my nightly routine.

What I’ve Learned About Finding the Best Supplements for PCOS

I know it seems like I’m taking a lot of supplements but if you can believe it, I’ve actually decreased the amount I’m taking over the past few weeks. Less is more! Instead of taking a million random pills, I now focus on targeted PCOS supplements that actually support my body’s core needs—hormone balance, gut health, blood sugar regulation, and energy.

Protein is everything: Getting at least 30g-40g of protein at every meal has stabilized my blood sugar, reduced cravings, and improved my energy levels. I am fully on the protein track and understand why it’s gone viral!

Consistency over everything: Supplements aren’t magic pills. The real magic happens when you stick to them consistently and pair them with solid nutrition, sleep, and stress management.

If you’re looking for the best supplements for PCOS, my advice is simple: start small, be intentional, and give your body time to adjust. And I’ll say it again, but always check with your doctor to personalize what’s right for you.

Are you using any PCOS supplements you love? Tell me which ones you love in the comments—I’d be so excited o hear what’s working for you too!

Last summer, while hanging out with some of my son’s friends’ parents, the topic of ChatGPT came up. One of the dads casually mentioned that he uses ChatGPT every night to create and recite bedtime stories for his kids. As soon as he said that, my mind started racing with all the other ways ChatGPT could be fun and useful with kids. From interactive games to planning family adventures, I realized there were SO many creative activities to explore. So, I sat down and came up with this epic list of activities for kids at home (if I do say so, myself!) to add some extra fun (and learning!) into your family routine!

We’ve tried all of these activities for kids at home, and my kids enjoy every single one of them. Whether it’s storytelling, learning games, or planning fam outings, ChatGPT has become a favorite tool in our house!

PSA about ChatGPT!!!

Before we dive in deeper, just a quick PSA — while I LOVE using ChatGPT for fun ideas, creativity boosts, and family activities, I would never fully trust it to fact-check critical information, make serious parenting decisions, or replace real educational guidance from teachers or professionals. I always recommend reviewing anything it generates to make sure it feels right for your family. It’s an amazing tool, but think of it like your personal, helpful assistant — not the final authority! ;)

Storytelling and Creativity:

1. Create Personalized Stories

ChatGPT is a storytelling powerhouse! My kids love hearing stories where they’re the main characters. Last week, I asked ChatGPT to craft a story about Demi going on a magical adventure with a talking unicorn. The kids were hooked and even acted out parts of the story, which my mama heart thoroughly enjoyed haha!

Prompt to try: “Create a fun, magical adventure story starring [child’s name] where they meet a talking [animal] and explore a hidden [magical place]. Keep the story under 500 words and make it exciting but easy to understand for a [child’s age]-year-old.”

2. Get Creative with Writing Prompts

If your kids enjoy writing, ChatGPT can generate fun prompts to get their creative juices flowing. I’ll never forget when ChatGPT suggested Levi write about discovering a hidden treasure map in our backyard. I LOVED reading his final story!!

Prompt to try: “Give me three imaginative writing prompts for a [child’s age]-year-old who loves [topic, e.g., dinosaurs, superheroes, space]. Make the prompts open-ended but simple enough for young writers.”

3. Practice Phonics with Custom Stories

My kids are learning different phonics rules at school, so we started asking ChatGPT to write short, silly stories using the exact sounds or patterns they’re working on — like words with “th,” “sh,” or “silent e.” They LOVE hearing their names pop up in the stories!

Prompt to try: “Write a silly story under 300 words using as many [phonics rule, e.g., “silent e”] words as possible. Include [child’s name] as the main character and make the story about a silly adventure in a [location, e.g., jungle, castle, farm].”

4. Calming Bedtime Routines

Bedtime can be a bit chaotic, but ChatGPT helps us wind down. Sometimes, I like to use it for calming bedtime stories or even simple breathing exercises. The other night, ChatGPT guided us through a short, relaxing story about a sleepy fox on a quiet adventure. I’m telling you, it made bedtime MUCH smoother!

Prompt to try: “Create a short, calming bedtime story featuring [child’s name] and a gentle [animal, like a fox or owl]. Keep it soothing, focused on winding down, and about 3 minutes long to help with relaxation.”

5. Make Custom Coloring Pages

Oh this one is fun! You can literally ask ChatGPT to create a custom coloring sheet of paper and give it specific directions for what it should look like. Once it create it, print and give it to your kids to color!

Prompt to try: “Show me a black-and-white coloring page with a [insert subject: unicorn, monster truck, butterfly garden, etc.] designed for a [child’s age]-year-old. Keep it simple or detailed depending on the age.”

6. Make Custom Coloring Pages from Photos You’ve Already Taken

I love this because it doesn’t take much thought and you can use photos that you have! Think: professional family pics, the sweet candid moments you snap of your kids throughout the day, or upload a picture of their family toy! You can get super creative here and it is one of our favorites!!

Prompt to try: “Turn this [professional family] photo into a black and white coloring book page. Keep the outlines clean and bold with minimal shading. Simplify details like the background, facial features, clothing textures, and hair so it’s easy and fun for kids to color. Make sure everyone is recognizable but in a playful, cartoon-style line drawing.”

Learning Games and School Support:

7. Play Interactive Learning Games

Turn learning into a game! We use ChatGPT for math challenges and spelling bees. My son Brody, who’s in fourth grade, enjoys racing ChatGPT to solve math problems. It’s a fun way to reinforce what he’s learning in school that he can do on his own! Activities for kids at home like this are perfect for rainy days or after-school downtime.

Prompt to try: “Create a 20-question math race game with addition and subtraction problems appropriate for a [child’s age]-year-old. Include a fun timer element and reward suggestions if they beat their time.”

8. Master Math Facts the Fun Way

Learning math facts can feel repetitive, but ChatGPT makes it WAY more fun! I love asking ChatGPT to create custom math games or quick quizzes based on what my kids are learning in school.

Prompt to try: “Generate a timed multiplication challenge with 30 problems (single and double digits) for a [child’s grade]-grader. Make it space-themed and include a final “blast-off” bonus question if they finish under 2 minutes.”

9. Ace Spelling and Vocabulary Practice

Whenever a spelling test is coming up, we turn to ChatGPT for some creative practice. We’ll ask for sentences that use each spelling word, or even a mini story that includes all of them!

Prompt to try: “Write a silly story using all of the following spelling words: [insert list of spelling words]. Keep the story under 200 words and make it funny for a [child’s age]-year-old.”

10. Learn Fun Facts Daily

Starting the day with a fun fact is a great way to get the kids excited about learning. When we remember, we ask ChatGPT for a cool fact each morning. It’s one of the easiest activities for kids at home that also sneaks in a little education!

Prompt to try: “Share one fun and surprising science or nature fact that would wow a [child’s age]-year-old. Keep it short and easy to explain during breakfast!”

11. Practice a New Language

You already know we are big fans of the au pair program, and our family has had numerous au pairs over the years. Our most recent au pair speaks Spanish. Before she arrived, we used ChatGPT to help us learn a few welcoming Spanish greetings!

Prompt to try: “Teach me and my [child’s age]-year-old five basic Spanish phrases for meeting someone new. Please include how to pronounce them slowly.”

Family Fun:

12. Explore Science Experiments

ChatGPT has a ton of great easy science experiment ideas. One rainy afternoon, we used it to come up with a simple experiment to make a volcano erupt using baking soda and vinegar. The kids were AMAZED by the “lava!”

Prompt to try: “Suggest a super simple science experiment for indoors using common kitchen items. Make it exciting but safe for kids ages [insert ages].”

13. Get Art Inspiration

When the kids want to get crafty, ChatGPT can suggest fun art projects. This past fall, we did a nature-themed art activity where ChatGPT suggested making collages from leaves and flowers we found on a walk. I love that activities for kids at home like this get them outside, moving, and creating.

Prompt to try: “Suggest an outdoor-themed art project for young kids involving nature items like leaves, flowers, or sticks. Give step-by-step instructions.”

14. Plan Family Adventures

ChatGPT can help brainstorm ideas for family outings. For example, when we were planning our family road trip to Erie last summer, I used it to come up with activities for us to play in the car with the kids as well as wonderful touristy places to go that made sense for our 3 kid family dynamic.

Prompt to try: “Give me five family-friendly activities to do in [city or area] with kids aged [insert ages]. Include both indoor and outdoor options!”

15. Create Recipes with Ingredients You Already Have

One of our favorite things to do is tell ChatGPT a few ingredients we have on hand and ask for an easy family recipe idea. The first time we did this, we had some leftover chicken, bell peppers, and rice. ChatGPT suggested a quick stir-fry recipe that, no joke, everyone loved!

I don’t know about what goes on in your house, but mornings around here are a wholeeee thing! And if you know me, you know that mornings are not exactly my favorite because while I might be a night owl, I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON AT ALL! Haha. They’re usually a blur of packing lunches quickly, looking for missing shoes (seriously, how do we lose one shoe every single morning?), and negotiating with a toddler who suddenly decides socks are the enemy. It’s chaos… and honestly, most days the struggle is real. Lately though, having all the ingredients to make a quick yogurt and granola breakfast —with a scoop of high protein granola to keep me full—has made my mornings just a little bit easier and 100% something I look forward to!!

I literally dream about this breakfast at night (not kidding!). It’s easy, it’s packed with protein, and it’s something I can throw together in under two minutes, even when the morning madness is in full swing. I can’t gate keep it from you any longer!

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1179" height="1668" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://thedanaivy.com/2025/04/the-2-minute-high-protein-breakfast-that-gets-me-excited-to-wake-up/?tp_image_id=11884" src="https://thedanaivy.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_4493.jpg" alt="Need a quick, yummy, high-protein breakfast?
The Breakfast That Changed My Mornings

I’m all about easy when it comes to any recipe I’m making, and this high-protein yogurt & granola breakfast could not be simpler. It takes under two minutes to throw together, tastes incredible, and actually keeps me full for hours and satiated until it’s time to eat lunch!

It just gives the whole bowl an extra boost and keeps me even more full and satisfied for longer—win!!

That’s it. No blender, no stove, no prep work. Just a creamy, crunchy, sweet-but-not-too-sweet breakfast that tastes like dessert but secretly packs about 45 grams of protein, which is a total win in my book!

A Quick Note About Macros

If you’d like the breakdown, here’s the math:

The yogurt brings 20 grams of protein

The high protein granola adds 13 grams

The pumpkin seed butter adds another 9 grams

And the blueberries and honey add just a little extra boost

All together, it’s about 45 grams of protein in a bowl that takes less time to make than it does to find my toddler daughter’s missing headband. Truth!

And because I get asked this sometimes—you should know that I personally only count protein in my head and I don’t track any other macros like calories, carbs, or fats because honestly, getting too deep into those numbers is just not good for my mental health. Protein is the one thing I try to be mindful about, and this yogurt & granola breakfast makes it super easy to hit my goals without overthinking anything. Also, something to note is that I never measure anything out for this particular recipe. Rather, I eyeball it and call it a day!

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1179" height="1307" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://thedanaivy.com/2025/04/the-2-minute-high-protein-breakfast-that-gets-me-excited-to-wake-up/?tp_image_id=11886" src="https://thedanaivy.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_4494.jpg" alt="Need a quick, yummy, high-protein breakfast?
Switch It Up: Butter, Fruit, and other High Protein Granola Options You’ll Love

One of the reasons I never get bored of this breakfast is because it’s so easy to switch up depending on what you’re craving or what’s actually in your fridge that day.

For the nut or seed butter, pumpkin seed butter has totally stolen my heart lately. It’s rich, creamy, and has this earthy, slightly nutty flavor that I’ve learned to LOVE. Plus, it’s packed with not only protein but healthy fats and nutrients too, which feels like a nice bonus first thing in the morning. If pumpkin seed butter isn’t your thing, you can totally swap it for peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, hazelnut butter (I’m talking the unsweetened kind!!) or even sunflower seed butter if you need a nut-free option.

Same thing with the fruit—giant blueberries are my usual go-to because they’re easy and add the perfect little pop of sweetness, but strawberries, raspberries, bananas or even a combo of these fruits are always a good idea too! Honestly, you can just grab whatever fruit is about to go bad on your counter or in your fridge (because #momlife, am I right?!) and toss it in.

And while I’m obsessed with the Nature Valley Oats & Honey High Protein Granola, there are so many other high protein granola brands out there that would work here too! Chocolate, cinnamon, nutty blends—you name it. As long as you stick to a high protein granola, you’re getting all that delicious crunch plus the extra protein boost that makes this breakfast a total powerhouse.

I love how flexible this yogurt & granola bowl is. It always feels a little different depending on what I use, but it’s always quick, easy, and seriously delicious.

This Yogurt & Granola Combo Is Honestly the Best Part of My Morning

I wish I was joking, but I’m not. I literally dream about this breakfast. It’s the first thing I think about when I open my eyes, and if something throws my morning off and I don’t get to eat it, I’m genuinely sad. LOL. Did I get my point across yet?? I AM OBSESSED!!!!

Finding a breakfast that’s fast, high-protein, and actually delicious can feel impossible when you’re in the thick of mom life. But this little bowl of yogurt & granola, fruit, and seed butter has seriously made my mornings better.

It’s two minutes. It’s 45 grams of protein. And it’s one small thing I can count on to fill my bucket (and my stomach) before the day gets going!

Ready to Try It?

If you’re looking for an easy way to fuel your morning, I cannot recommend this high protein granola breakfast enough. It’s simple, satisfying, and—dare I say—life-changing??? But, like, really, it is.

If you make it, tag me @thedanaivy on Instagram! I would seriously love to see your version and hear about your swaps, if you choose to make any!

From the carefree days of childhood to my early 20s, when life felt full of possibilities (and a bit of the unknown), it’s been quite the adventure.

In my late 20s, I realized that the man of my dreams had been in my life all along—my best friend for four whole years before we started dating. Our picture-perfect wedding was the start of a new chapter. Then came my 30s—a whirlwind of pregnancies, bringing three incredible kids into the world. Now, I’m watching their little faces and personalities blossom into those of big kids, right before my eyes. Each decade has brought its own unique lessons.

I won’t lie—turning 40 feels like a big deal. It’s a moment to pause, reflect, and really appreciate everything I’ve learned along the way. So, in honor of this milestone birthday, I’m sharing 40 lessons on my 40th birthday that I’ve picked up over the years—some serious, some lighthearted, but all deeply meaningful as a mom, a woman, a daughter, a friend, and just a person trying to navigate this beautiful, messy life. Read them below, in no particular order!

Embrace Motherhood and Family

Embrace the Chaos
Life with kids is messy, loud, and unpredictable. The sooner you embrace the chaos, the more you’ll enjoy the ride. Promise! (With that said, I recently shared some strategies for juggling the after-school activity chaos with ease, check them out!)

Be Present with Your Kids
When you’re with your kids, be truly with them. Put down the phone, forget the to-do list, and just be in the moment. Is this sometimes hard? Yes. Is it worth it? YES YES YES. By they way, if you’re a toddler mom (or even if you are not), keep these 8 art supplies in your home at all times!

Family Comes First
At the end of the day, family is what matters most. Prioritize them, love them fiercely, and make memories together. Start here: read this post sharing a month’s worth of simple ways to fill your child’s cup everyday!!

Celebrate the Wins
No matter how small, celebrate the victories. Made it through a tough day? Celebrate. Survived the week? Celebrate. Have a birthday coming up? Celebrate, no matter the number! I especially subscribe to this after having emergency gallbladder surgery in my 39th year. It was one of the scariest moments of my life and knowing that I made it through, now I want to celebrate everyyyything!!

Create Traditions
Family traditions, big or small, create lasting memories and a sense of belonging. Start a few that are unique to your family. And if you celebrate Hanukkah and are interested: take inspiration from our family hanukkah traditions!

Make Time for Your Partner
Your relationship with your partner is the foundation of your family. Nurture it, even when life gets busy. Early weeknight date nights and then home to put the kids to bed are mine and Isaiah’s jam.

Teach by Example
Your kids are always watching. Be the person you want them to become. Ask the productive questions about thier school days!

Personal Well-Being and Growth

Prioritize Sleep
Seriously, sleep is everything. A well-rested mom is a happier, more patient mom. Don’t underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. And when I’m unable to fall asleep or stay asleep—which seems to be happening a lot more lately—meditation is the answer. Taking a few moments to focus on my breath or listen to a guided meditation can work wonders.

Take Time for Yourself
Self-care isn’t selfish. Whether it’s a 10-minute social media scroll, a mid-week massage, a walk alone in the neighborhood, or a night out with friends, taking time for yourself is essential.

Be Kind to Yourself
You’re doing the best you can, and that’s enough. Give yourself grace, especially on the tough days.

Trust Your Instincts
You know yourself and your kids better than anyone. Whether it’s for your health, your career, or your family, don’t be afraid to speak up and stand up for what you believe in. My 39th year tested me on this one in more ways than I can count, and now I’m a better mom and person because of it.

You’re Stronger Than You Think
Motherhood tests you in ways you never imagined, but it also reveals a strength you never knew you had. The saying “Strong Like a Mother” wasn’t born out of thin air!!

Celebrate Your Journey
For my 40th birthday, I’m celebrating not just a number but the journey that’s brought me here. Every challenge, every joy, every lesson has shaped me into who I am today—and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Relationships and Friendships

Friendships Change—That’s Okay
As we grow, so do our friendships. Some friends are meant for a season, and others for a lifetime. It’s okay if relationships evolve or even fade away. I’ve learned that I’m too old for friendships that don’t make me feel good, and that’s perfectly fine. Surround yourself with people who lift you up, and let go of those who don’t. Life’s too short to spend time with people who drain your energy. There is inner peace in knowing this.

Cherish Your Friendships
Good friends are hard to find and worth their weight in gold. Make time for them, even when life gets busy. I am going into my 40th birthday so much more clearer regarding who I want to give my energy to.

Not Everyone Needs to Like Me
One of the most freeing lessons I’ve learned is that it’s okay if not everyone likes me. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s life. I’d rather be authentic and true to myself than try to please everyone and their mother.

Find Your Village
No one can do it alone. Find your village—friends, family, other moms—and lean on them for support. I don’t know where I would be without mine!!!! Also – having an au pair helps too! Read 10 reasons why having an au pair is best for my fam.

It’s Okay to Say No
You don’t have to be everything to everyone. It’s okay to say no, set boundaries, and protect your time. For some reason, with every milestone birthday I have, I think about this!

Mindset and Life Lessons

Learn to Let Go
Not everything needs to be perfect. Sometimes, good enough is more than enough. Let go of the need to control every detail. Confession: this is probably the hardest one on the list for me but I am working on it everyday.

Stay Present
It’s easy to get caught up in planning for the future, but the present is where life happens. Be here, now. By the way, here is a step-by-step guide on how to create meaningful memory boxes for your kids!!

Don’t Compare
Every family, every child, every mom is different. Comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on your own journey.

Laugh More
Laughter truly is the best medicine. Find humor in the little things—like when your toddler covers herself in yogurt, or when your kids “help” clean up the kitchen but it’s still a mess 20 minutes later.

Practice Gratitude
Every day has something to be grateful for. Focus on the positives, even when things aren’t going your way.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
Most of what we worry about doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Let the small stuff go. Like, truly, let it goooo!

Be Open to Change
Life is full of changes, especially in motherhood. Be open to them, and embrace the new opportunities they bring.

Be Flexible
Plans change, kids get sick, and things don’t always go as expected. Flexibility is key to surviving and thriving.

Self-Improvement

Keep Learning
Whether it’s a new recipe, a parenting strategy, a sport, card game or any hobby that you’re interested in, keep learning and growing. It makes life so much better!

Take Risks
Obviously, life is short. Take the leap, try something new, don’t care what others think and don’t be afraid to fail. It’s all part of the journey.

Stay Curious
Kids are naturally curious, and it’s contagious. Let their curiosity inspire you to explore the world with fresh eyes.

Stay Organized
Life runs smoother when you’re organized, especially as a parent. Find systems that work for you and stick to them. PSA: It’s time to declutter your digital world with these 7 easy steps!

Find Your Balance
Balance doesn’t mean equal time for everything. It means finding what works for you and your family in each season of life. Albeit, this is one that took me longer to realize than I would like to admit, but I am going into my 40th birthday really understanding what balance means to my family. Sometimes, it takes a milestone birthday to get it.

Listen More, Talk Less
Sometimes, all your kids need is for you to listen—really listen!!!!! You don’t always need to have the answers. Just listen!

Be the One to Organize the Plans
If you want to do something fun, make it happen. Don’t wait around for others to take the lead—be the one to organize the plans. Whether it’s a family outing, a night out with friends, or a spontaneous date night, take charge and make it happen. Life’s too short to wait for others to ask you to do things you want to do!

Self-Worth and Confidence

Be Your Own Advocate
Whether it’s for your health, your career, or your family, don’t be afraid to speak up and stand up for what you believe in.

Remember Your Worth
Please don’t forget this: you’re more than a mom—you’re a woman with dreams, goals, and a whole lot to offer the world. Don’t forget that. Ever.

Speaking of Worth, My Body Has ZERO to Do With It
My body gave birth three times and it is perfect the way it is. My weight will fluctuate throughout life which is 100% natural and normal.

Patience is a Virtue
Patience is something I’ve learned (and continue to learn) daily. Kids will test your patience, but they also teach you to slow down and appreciate life. Mine is tested hourly, but… deep breaths! By the way, read this post sharing 9 ways to help your kids’ big emotions!

Embrace Imperfection
Life isn’t perfect, and neither are you. Embrace the imperfections—they’re what make life real and beautiful.

Take Photos, but Live In the Moment
Photos are the best, but don’t get so caught up in capturing the moment that you forget to live it.

Slow Down
Life moves fast. Slow down, savor the moments, enjoy them and don’t rush through life. For my 40th birthday, I am really trying to remind myself of this!

Juggling after-school activities for multiple kids can be a REAL challenge, but with the right strategies, you can keep everything running smoothly, I promise! I know, I know, this sounds like a pipe dream but I have some really great strategies up my sleeve that not only allow me to maintain my own sanity, but my whole families as well! Today, I’m sharing how I manage my children’s busy schedules and our full after school routine while staying organized and on top of everything, all without losing my mind! (Well, for most days that is, ha!)

1. Have Conversations Before Signing Up for Activities

To avoid the dreaded “I don’t want to go today” conversation, I’ve learned to have discussions with my kids before signing them up for activities. We talk about their interests and what they want to commit to. I make it clear that once they’re signed up, they are expected to attend unless they’re sick or under the weather. This helps set expectations and reduces resistance when it’s time to head out the door, ensuring that our after school routine goes smoothly!

2. Plan for Downtime After School

Amidst all the activities, it’s important to schedule a little downtime for your kids, immediately after school if possible. When I can, I always try to make sure to block out time in our calendar for snacks, relaxation, or just being bored for 30-minutes to 45-minutes after they get home. This not only gives the kids a chance to recharge after a long day of learning in school but also helps prevent the exhaustion that comes from running from one activity to another a little later on. This downtime is a crucial part of our after school routine and although it’s impossible to account for it everyday, most days we are able to fit it in the schedule!

3. Use a Shared, Color-Coded Family Calendar

This is my #1 tip if I’m being honest, because I don’t know how I would live without our shared family calendar! It literally runs my life! It’s the ultimate lifesaver when it comes to managing our family’s schedule. And to say that I’m obsessed with the Calendars App is an understatement. You can sync any existing calendars you may have (google cal, ical, etc) and then also share specific calendars with others. My husband and I can both see our joint family calendar, plus each of our 3 kids schedules, which allows us to stay on the same page everyday! To make things even clearer, I color-code the calendar by child: Brody’s activities are in blue, Levi’s in green, and Demi’s are in pink. This way, it’s easy to see who has what going on each day, and there’s no confusion about where anyone needs to be.

4. Set Aside Time for a Weekly After School Routine Overview

Every Sunday night, I like to sit down and review the week ahead. This gives me a clear picture of what’s coming up and helps me plan for any potential conflicts. It’s also a great time to make sure each kid has all the gear they need for their activities. To delve into this further, to make after-school transitions smoother, I keep pre-packed activity bags ready to go for each child in their mudroom cubbies. For example, Levi’s soccer bag stays in his cubby with his cleats and uniform. This way, we avoid the last-minute scramble, and I’m not rushing around looking for missing items, keeping our after school routine way more organized than if I didn’t review the week ahead of time.

5. Leverage the Help of an Au Pair (or Nanny)

If you’ve been around this little slice of the internet awhile, you know that my family is all about the Au Pair program! (Read more about why having an au pair over a nanny works for us, here) Having an au pair has been an incredible asset in managing after-school activities, as I can schedule her to work during the exact hours that I need her to. Whether you’re a working parent or not, an au pair can provide much-needed support! She or he can stay home with a napping baby or younger sibling while you handle the driving, or alternatively, an au pair can take on the driving duties, allowing you to stay home with the other kids. This flexibility makes it easier to juggle everyone’s schedules without feeling stretched too thin.

6. Set Up Carpooling with Other Parents

Carpooling is another great way to lighten your load. I coordinate with other parents who’s kids are in the same activities as mine to share the driving responsibilities, for pretty much every extra-curricular activity that my kids are signed up for. This not only saves time but also pushes me to check-in with other parents about their after school routine and schedules. Plus, it gives the kids extra time to connect with their friends outside of school!! Huge plus!!

7. Prioritize Family Meals

While our schedules are B-U-S-Y, I make it a priority to sit down for family meals at least a few times a week. It doesn’t have to be every night, but those moments around the table are precious. They give us a chance to reconnect, share about our day, and maintain our family bond despite the craziness of after-school activities. During family meals, we love talking about our days and playing this Dinner Table Gratitude Game. It’s the BEST and never gets old! Download it asap to use at your dinner table!!

8. Encourage Independence and Responsibility

While Brody and Levi don’t have access to our family calendar, I make it a point to tell them the night before about their activities for the next day. I encourage them to remember their water bottles, sports gear & activity bags, or anything else they might need. This helps them start developing responsibility and independence, knowing that they’re part of keeping our crazy busy schedule running smoothly. It also reduces the chances of leaving something important behind in the morning rush.

9. Keep a Backup Plan Ready

No matter how well you plan, things don’t always go as expected with your after school routine. Am I right or am I right?! I always have a backup plan in place—whether it’s a trusted neighbor, a close friend who is willing to help, or my parents, who can step in for pick-up duty! I also ALWAYS have snacks and water bottles in my car for the kids and their friends, just in case!! That’s a necessity! Having a plan B helps me stay calm when the inevitable hiccups happen.

10. Give Yourself Grace

Mamas, remember that it’s okay not to have everything perfectly managed all the time! Some days will be chaotic, and that’s okay. Give yourself grace and know that you’re doing your best to provide a fulfilling and balanced life for your kids. You (we) got this!!!!!!!

Managing After-School Activities Doesn’t Have to be Overwhelming!

It really doesn’t!!! By implementing these smart strategies like using a shared calendar, planning for downtime, and involving your kids in the decision-making process, you can keep your family’s schedule organized and reduce stress on everyone. That’s a fact!! Remember, it’s all about finding a balance that works for your family and giving yourself the grace to adapt as needed. With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the art of juggling after-school commitments while maintaining your family’s well-being. YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
