Louis Vuitton Series 3 Exhibition

Sometime December last year, I've upgraded my entire blog layout and promised a more frequent update.

It didn't happen.

I lied.

So here's to fulfil the quota for the year.

I've visited Singapore a couple of days back.

The main purpose of my trip was to watch Cirque du Soleil.

It was a circus performance consisting of mostly acrobatics acts.

I think my expectations were too high due to the good reviews I've heard prior to the show so it was just OK for me.

But nevermind, today, our focus is not on that.

It's about this :

Christine (or Ah Pon, we call her), my buddy/hostess for my entire trip suggested that we visit this exhibition cuz her husband refused to go with her.

I'm not an LV fan to be honest but why not.

Plus, it's free admission anyway!

Upon entry, we were greeted with a really cute guy in a pair of nice black suit with white shirt and black tie who helped to take this pic for us.

This is not a really good pic but I just wanted to tell you about that cute guy.

No, I don't have his pic, unfortunately. LOL

So he walked us until the counter and went back to his initial position.

I remember one of the girls whispered, "So you're not gonna bring us around?".

BAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

Girls will be girls.

We opted for a guided tour with a bunch of other people.

She started off by bringing us through the previous series

(Series 1 : Past, Series 2 : Present, Series 3 : Future)

and the past locations of this exhibition

(London > Singapore).

This exhibition was centered around the creative process of Nicolas Ghesquière, LV's current creative director, for the Autumn-Winter 2015/2016 collection for LV and how the entire collection was executed.

Say hello to LV's latest logo x 6.

It's not new, it was digged out from the archive by Ghesquière and he decided to revive it.

Master Mind

A giant opened trunk was placed in the center of this room.

In the middle of the trunk were hologram projections of his designs and inspirations.

Pretty cool, really.

The exhibition was spread across 2 floors.

At the lift lobby, we were greeted by model Marte Mei Van Haaster's sculpture, Ghesquière's muse for this entire exhibition.

^ The details in this sculpture was amazing - From the hair, zippers, folds and to the shoes.

I love how her butt was sunken into the box and her legs protruding out.

So weird, so cool.

Artists' Hands

Screens were placed on the tables, facing upwards.

Videos of how bags were made at the scale of 1:1 were played in an endless loop, as though we're the ones making the bags.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics in this room because I thought I would have time to come back again to watch the entire video (it was supposed to be about 30 mins).

So, you get a picture from the brochure instead. LOL

Infinite Show

This room was like a mock fashion show, with multiple screens showing models walking the runway at the scale of 1:1.

The tour guide said that this room was built because invitations were limited to watch the actual show and basically mere mortals like us usually won't get the chance but heyyy, you can watch it here instead.

This room was where they flew in staffs from France to demonstrate how LV bags were made.

This exhibition wasn't in my initial itinerary but it was really the highlight of my entire trip.

And I didn't even have to fork out a single cent.

Ah, the irony.
But I guess the best things in life are the ones money can't buy.

Day 3 : Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week 2014 (Backstage)

This is the final post of my backstage experience in the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week 2014!

Day 3 – Fashion Show + Awards Night (22 Oct 2014)

Today was the last day of the fashion week. The show ran the whole day but my duty only started 4PM onwards. This time, I also got to be in a proper backstage rather than like Day 1 with a super small room, limited designs, and models. There were also a lot more volunteers today and some of them were from Raffles as well.

Before the next show at 6PM, Jimmy brought his 2 assistants and I to tour around some of the booths in the exhibition hall. Basically, the designers who showcased their collections on the runway also rented booths so that potential customers who watched the shows can make purchase. There were other booths selling random things such as soaps and uniforms as well.

There were 2 runways, located side-by-side so that the shows can run continuously.

For the closing ceremony, the partition was removed and the runways were combined, forming a "U" shaped runway.

Similar to Day 1, my duty for the day was to ensure the models walk the runway on time by helping them to dress up etc.

Avant-garde

An interesting show for the night was the avant-garde collection. Avant-garde collection are experimental or innovative works. The pieces were made with unconventional materials such as egg container, soft paper-like material as well as soft polystyrene-like material (I'm sorry, I really don't know what were the materials exactly, I'm not that experienced yet you see. LOL). To create an ombre effect, black spray paints were used.

The designers used clogs as shoes. Usually clogs come with red handles so they sprayed the front half black. However, clogs are free-size and the models were not able to walk properly in them so we used cable ties to make additional handles. This is avant-garde, afterall!

Lais' avant-garde outfit was a giant umbrella with black top and leggings. She was too tired from holding onto it while waiting for the show to start so she asked me to help share the weight by carrying it with her. While we were under the umbrella, she shared stories of her modelling career which has just started a year ago. She enjoyed being a model because it enabled her to travel around the world. Before Malaysia, she was in Beijing, China and one of her biggest challenge there was the language as people there barely spoke any English and she admits she's talkative. She was pleasantly surprised that almost all Malaysians can speak English. I could see the sparkles in her eyes and how passionate she was while telling her modelling stories.

Now you know why she was my favourite (Not just because she strutted topless OK. LOL)

As shared previously, backstage helpers do not get the chance to watch the show at the front at all. However, I got to see Dato’ Jimmy Choo giving out some awards that night because I was waiting for the models who wore the avant-garde collection to walk the runway.

As some of the avant-garde pieces were too huge and the models were unable to see properly while climbing up and down the stairs, a few people and I were sent out to help them with that. Yes, I was basically at the side of the runway holding the models' hands in the middle of the show (I was standing at the purple 'X' in the diagram earlier). Sedikit malu but we wouldn't want the models to fall down the stairs, that would be worse.

The fashion week ended with the announcement and final walk on the runway with the winning designs. The winners of the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Week 2014 were :

Albert Andrada (Phillipines) : Asia's Most Connected Designer (He's my favourite! I've mentioned it in Day 2)
Joe Chia (Malaysia) : Asia's Most Influential Designer
Chun Ting Liu (Taiwan) : Asia's Most Promising Designer

We packed up and found many clothing left behind by designers and models. As much as we wished we can keep them (the designers’ pieces I mean), they are to be stored at Stylo’s office until the rightful owner comes forward.

But I get to keep the remaining of the avant-garde fabric!

We finally left the place at about 11:30PM. It was raining and my car was at the open carpark. I don't usually do this but somehow I brought my foldable umbrella (it was usually in my 'school bag'). On my walk back, I can't help but to feel how incredibly blessed I am with everything. :')

Day 2 : Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week 2014 (Backstage)

Day 2 – Fittings (19 Oct 2014)

With only 5 and a half hour of sleep, here comes Day 2 at Menara Matrade.

Today, you will get to see more pictures because I a bit more kam cheng with the backstage manager already and I've asked his permission if I can take some pictures and post online. He said OK, as long as no nude photos of the models.

(Sorry, guys. LOL)

Also, I only dared to ask when it was quite late already so yea... Don't get your hopes up. LOL

^ This is Menara Matrade. I'm pretty sure you've seen this building before but never knew its name! It's nearby Publika.

We have to be there at 8:30AM. NOBODY from my class turned up but some seniors from INTI were around today though.

The doors to the hall were still locked because the person-in-charge for the building was still sleeping (Probably because it was a Sunday but seriously??). Maryam was pissed because most models and some designers have arrived and it was very unprofessional to keep them waiting and some even sat down on the floor. Eventually, some security personnel eventually came up and unlocked the door at around 9:30AM (Finallyyyyyy).

My duty for the day was to ensure the designers have their models fitted, confirm the sequence of the garments for each show, note down any special requests such as what shoes to be brought by models for the fashion show the following days (Yes, most models are required to bring their own shoes for fashion shows, mostly basic styles such as black or nude pumps, because most designers only designed clothes), and other ad-hoc requests. I was so glad to be given this role (I'm the only one BTW. *super happy*) because I got to see and even touch the garments first-hand, talk to the designers, and witnessed how they arranged the sequence for the show.

It was a more relaxed day as each designer was allocated about 30 minutes for fitting. Some models didn’t turn up because they were booked for other events. Another thing I’ve learnt was that the comp cards for models (basically a paper containing the models' measurements) were not always accurate because they were not updated regularly. Therefore, some designers have trouble fitting models into their pants.

Highlight of the day was when a model named Lais (she's my favourite) decided to strut topless with a long pleated skirt by Pleatation (Singapore) and joked about how she will finally get to be married with a rich Dato’ if she did it like that on the runway.

My favourite designer throughout the fitting was Albert Andrada from Philippines (All the photos here are from his collection). He used pastel colours, drapes, sheer and flowy fabrics, which created an ethereal collection.

Most designers just took picture of the models wearing the garments and then forgot the models’ names. I had to ask for Maroush, the person-in-charge for the models for help to identify the models' names for the runway sequence. However, Albert Andrada’s team was the smartest one because they wrote the models’ names on a piece of paper and then asked the models to hold it while they took picture of them with the garment.

We ended earlier than expected at about 6:30PM. YAY!

My 1st Backstage Experience - Day 1 : Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week 2014

I had a subject called 'Introduction to Fashion Design' last semester and one of the assignments was to keep this thing called a 'Personal Journal' where I can write / sketch any crap I want related to fashion design. This was one of my favourite entry in my journal which was my 1st backstage experience!

Due to my OCD-ness, I have actually typed everything out in Powerpoint before I started writing on the book. So, I can spare you from reading from my scribbles. LOL

I have edited some parts here and made it a lot less formal because this blog is not an assignment. LOL

Introduction

The Mercedes Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week is the first ever Asia wide collaboration of top emerging designers in the one media event, taking place once a year in each Asian host city. The event is a collaboration of 12 official fashion associations across Asia, with the likes of China, Korea, Japan, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam, showcasing their best designers in one central location.

To summarize, it's basically quite a big deal of a fashion show. If you have watched Project Runway or followed the fashion news, you would know that Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York is a big thing and this is the Asia's version.

Thanks to arrangements by INTI and one of our lecturers, Ms. Laura, I have had the privilege to join this event as a backstage volunteer (means I don't get paid at all *sobs*). The fashion week actually ran from 17th to 22nd October 2014 but due to assignments etc., I joined for only 3 days. I chose the Opening Bash (18th), Fitting (19th), & Closing (22nd) so that I can see the entire process of the fashion week.

Day 1 – Opening Bash (18 Oct 2014)

The opening bash was held in Sultan Lounge, Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

A handful of people in my class actually signed up for this but in the end, only 2 turned up (surprise, surprise) - Lily and I. Upon our arrival at 7PM, we met Maryam, the volunteer recruiter, and was passed to Jimmy, the backstage manager.

Disclaimer : Due to this is my 1st time in the backstage, I takut nak ambik gambar so please don't expect much. LOL

^ Casbah, a bar area which is connected to the Sultan Lounge. This was basically the backstage.

Our 1st task was to steam iron some clothing. Both of us did not know how... HAHAHAHA! Yes, I do not know how to iron clothes because I'm a spoilt child. (I love you, mom!)

Anyway, no choice so I have to simply be honest and ask for guidance. Honestly, I was expecting some rolling eyeballs but Jimmy patiently taught us how. When we were ironing a blazer by Bon Zainal, the designer himself saw us doing it wrongly at the sleeves part and taught us how. He was very nice and patient as well. (Where's all the bitchy people you see in reality TV?!)

There were 18 looks to be shown that night, 3 looks each from 6 designers. However, there were only 12 models (FYI, it's a normal thing to repeat models for the same show). We get to see how the models were arranged – who wear what, sequence, who has to repeat garment, and more.

There were some fittings issues due to some shorts and pants were too tight and a dress was too short but the models would just have to squeeze themselves in those tight shorts and wear leggings for the short dress. (Yes, not just us mortal beings have problems with our tight pants. The short dress would have fitted average people in the correct length though.)

Then, the make up artists and hair stylists worked on the models’ hair. There was a slight drama whereby all models had their make up on except 1, Alina, because one of the make up artist, let’s just call her ABC, thought she wasn’t a model. Alina started questioning ABC things like, “Do I not look like a model? Is there something wrong with my face?” and proceeded to scold things in Russian to her other model friends. Meanwhile, ABC spoke in Mandarin to her other make up artists and put on make up for Alina.

The event was supposed to start at 10PM but we waited until about 10:30PM for more guests to arrive (Malaysian's timing?). Apparently, it is a norm for an event to start late but not for an event to be scheduled this late at night. While waiting, we sat down with some of the Russian models and one of them had trouble with slippery heels. A simple trick that they did was to stick some adhesive tape with a more rough surface on the base to provide a better grip (Mindblasted! I can't believe that I've never thought of this!).

The models were only asked to start dressing about 15 minutes before the show starts. I assume it was to prevent wrinkles on the garments as the models were not seen to be seated down anymore after they’re dressed. Our role was also to help the models to dress and undress throughout the fashion show. (Yes, we managed to see many half-naked girl models with perfect bums that night.)

Working on backstage really mean you will be on the backstage only. We did not manage to see the runway show AT ALL because we were busy helping the models.

After the finale walk and most models have already taken off their garments, there was a sudden announcement that the models have to change back their clothes for some photo op session. Jimmy threw a fit (and rightly so) because the announcements were so last minute and it was unfair for the models. Nevertheless, the models did it anyway.

When everything was finally done, we have to arrange the garments on the correct hangers and vacuum bags given by the designers and wait for them to collect it, unscrew the racks, pack the additional hangers, and call it a night. We left at about 12:30AM.

Hello, I'm back!

I just want to say that I absolutely love the new look of my own blog!

My old template was something like this (I've forgotten to print-screen before I changed!!) :

I personally think this is a vast improvement.

(Self-praise is STILL praise OK?! LOL)

This is after days and days of searching for a nice and customize-friendly template and I had to re-learn how to edit the little details in the HTML part again.

So, I think I definitely deserved a pat on the back! LOL

I've stopped writing for a few years now due to rise of other blogging platforms such as Tumblr and Pinterest
(here are my other babies : Hear Me Crap (quite dead) and Elaine's Pins (quite alive)),
but those are more like reblogging / pinning rather than my original thoughts.

As I'm on my journey to become a fashion designer, I think this would be a great platform for me to record my experiences so that I can reflect back in the future and probably laugh at myself

(like how I just did by reading my old posts. I've hid some of them because they just can't make it and I don't know what was I thinking. LOL)

Also, I just got my very 1st sewing machine today!

Super excited about days to come! =)

Toilet Part 2

Now that I'm working in an office building, I realised that a clean toilet can really be achieved via education.

You know why?

The toilets here are so clean cuz all the people working here are educated so no 1 is stupid enough to step on the seated toilets or poop on the floor.

It's even cleaner than the ones in university.

In school, we have Pendidikan Moral telling us about... (okay, I don't remember) but they should have started with basic things such as

"DON'T STEP ON THE TOILET SEATS, DUMBASS!"

I'm so particular about toilet because I go toilet all time, winning me the title "Toilet Inspector". LOL

Oh btw, I wrote this sometime ago in my Facebook status :

Durian

I'm pretty sure everyone noticed by now (in Malaysia), it is the durian season.

My mom always tell me that we should never mix durian with alcohol or Coke.

Now, how true is that?

I've decided to do some research in the internet to check whether this is just another myth or indeed a fact.

A study by John Maninang and Hiroshi Gemma from the University of Tsukuba, Japan proved that this Asian folklore could be true.

The durian's high sulphur content actually impairs alcohol breakdown because it turned off the activity of aldehyde dehydrogenase (an enzyme that clears toxic breakdown products) by up to 70%.

While it doesn't say much here, I think it probably meant that it prevents the proper digestion of alcohol?

Even in Wikipedia, it was stated that some said you can't even consume durian with coffee.

Probably this is related to Coke because both contains caffeine.

I was able to find that mixing caffeine and alcohol is deadly but nothing about mixing with durian. Haha.

"A new research suggests that drinking more than 10 alcoholic drinks a week or 4 cups of strong coffee each day can increase the risk of developing an irregular heartbeat.

2 studies presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress in Barcelona found that alcohol and caffeine intake can affect the chances of developing an abnormal heart rhythm known as atrial fibrillation."

On top of that, too much of durian can also cause death.

A Thai died after eating four durian in close succession.

The Thailand's Ministry of Public Health even issued a warning against excessive durian consumption.

While durians are delicious, it is high in calories.

For 100 grammes of long-stemmed durians, it is 181 calories,

129 calories for kradum durians and 340 calories for candied durians.

A 2-kg mon thong durian, once peeled, weighs 600 grammes with a total of 978 calories.

The Thai ate 4 of these and get an instant energy burst of 4,000 calories, twice the daily requirement for an average person.

People with overweight/obese problem, together with high blood pressure, heart conditions and diabetes should be even more caution when it comes to eating durians.

Suicide by Durian and Whiskey

There's nothing much to be seen in the video except a few men drinking Whisky and eating durians.

What's important was in the description, it was written that the video was taken in 2006 but only uploaded in 2008

(This probably meant they survived. LOL).

Others also tried Durian + Wine and survived.

Since all these studies, news, and experiments may not be 100% proven due to lack of studies done

(probably because this fruit is not very popular in the West),

That is why I REFUSE to watch the movie because Robert Burger Patty is so damn FUGLY!!!!

And like what this article pointed out, due to the fact that Bella's character is so empty, it could be anyone.

It could even be YOU, up to your imagination.

Inception : Conclusion

So, I watched Inception a few days back.

It was... mind-fucking!

I must say, this is the BEST movie I have ever watched.

I didn't even realize it was a 148-minutes movie.

It left me wanting MORE.

I couldn't take my mind off the movie even after I left the cinema and even accidently went into the male's toilet.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You wouldn't understand what I will be talking about if you didn't watch the movie anyway. LOL!

The ending of the movie was unclear whether Dom Cobbs (Leonardo DiCaprio) was still dreaming or in a reality because the spinning top did not stop.

I wished that he was in reality because I've always liked happy endings.

Hehe.

Anyway, I researched about it and I don't think the director did published the ending anywhere.

The movie ended in such a way so that we can end it the way we wanted.

Based on many opinions in the web,

these are a few points that needs consideration before making a conclusion :

1. The spinning top is not his, it's Mal's.

In Mal's dream the spinning top never fell, but it could be different for Cobb.

Cobb first touched the totem in a dream world also.

Besides that, remember Arthur (Joseph-Gordon Levitt) told Ariadne (Ellen Page) that you cannot let other people touch your totem because you should be the only one who knows its weight etc?

The older version of Saito (Ken Watanabe) and his security guards also touched Cobb's totem when they captured him.

2. The children did not seemed to age BUT in the credits, there are 2 people hired for both characters :

Claire Geare - Philipa (3 years)

Magnus Nolan - James (20 months)

Taylor Geare - Philipa (5 years)

Johnathan Geare - James (3 years)

However, I didn't see any difference about the kids including their hairstyle and clothes and they were at the exact same position.

BUT, the movie did not specify how long he left his home, maybe it was just a month or so, that is why there were no changes?

I read a comment somewhere saying that the children on the beach looked smaller, maybe that is why they have 2 sets of casts (not sure).

It could also be because the kids in the telephone are different.

3. It wasn't shown whether Saito killed Cobb and himself, 'kicking' both of them into "reality".

4. There are many debates on whether the ENTIRE film was just a dream after all.

Cobb is performing inception on himself.

He is the architect of the dream but he used another architect inside his dream.

Besides that, in the dream phase 1, hitting the water was supposed to be the kick to bring them back to the plane ("reality") and yet we saw them swimming out of the van, sitting on the side of the water and talked some crap.

Not only so, the unstoppable projection army that is just above them on the bridge is letting them be.

This is because Cobb wants to see Robert Fischer come to the decision and it can't happen in the "real" world of the airplane where Robert Fischer will think it as a dream.

On top of that, there wasn't any complete scene in the movie and it kept jumping,

like what a dream is supposed to be.

5. If the whole movie was a dream,

it means Mal jumping down the building 'kicked' her into the REAL world.

BUT, if she really did, why wouldn't she wake Cobb up?

6. The last time we saw the spinning top fall was in Paris.

MAYBE, the master of inception, Miles (Michael Caine) manipulated the whole event so that Cobb forgives himself about Mal's death.

The rest of the crew are not projections but real people probably working for Miles perform inception in Cobb's mind that he is not responsible for Mal's death.

Besides, the rest of the crew also hardly questioned Cobb's decisions although he did put them in danger in the dream.

7. Ariadne could be the movie's real extractor.

Miles hired the best extractor he knew of (better than Cobb) to perform inception on him.

Her skills was so good even in the first exercise and she was able to manipulate the streets of Paris to fold up onto themselves.

How could she be so skilled in the first round?

Because she is a professional extractor of course!

8. It was mentioned that Robert Fischer was trained to protect his sub-conscious

(with the projections of army etc).

Who trained him?

Could it be because they were in Cobb's dream all along and since Cobb is a profession extractor, he has been trained to protect his sub-conscious?

Or, Ariadne trained Robert Fischer?

9. Cobb and Mal were in the dream world for 50 years.

It was said that 5 minutes (real world) = 1 hour (Dream Phase 1).

Thus, the calculation should be :

It would be illogical that they slept for 4 years.

It is also humanly impossible that their body can be at that stage for that long without food and water.

(I don't remember what's the ratio for Dream Phase 2 though, sorry!)

That being said, this means they should be in deeper dream phases.

10. Limbo : a state of uncertainty.

Since the sedate was so high, when they die in the dream, they will not wake up but be in a Limbo instead.

Cobb died simultaneously in four dream stages

(drowned in the second, then blew up in the elevator, blew up in snow place in third, and Mal stabbed him in the fourth).

It means he was in a limbo.

11. It could be possible that Cobb never woke up from the chemist's place in Mombasa.

When Cobb "woke up" after using the new potion, he went to the toilet and tried to spin the top but Saito interrupted him and it wasn't shown whether the top fell.

This is so that Saito learnt about Cobb's plan to incept Robert Fischer and at the same time, make Cobb believe he "returned" home.

12. Cobb performed inception on himself but refuses to accept his current state as a dream because he believes it as a reality.

13. Someone also pointed out that Cobb always has his wedding ring during the dream world but never in the real world.

He did not have the ring in the last scene.

OMG. NEW DISCOVERY!!!

Cobb's wedding ring could be his totem!

Read this!

14. The top wobbled in the end and we did not get to see if it actually fell after that.

Earlier in the movie, it was shown that in the dream world, the top has a perfect spinning motion once it is up to its full momentum.

Flaws :

1. Cobb and his people incepted in Robert Fisher's (Cillian Murphy) mind that his uncle, Maurice Fisher (Pete Postlethwaite) kidnapped him.

So why did Robert still saved him from the sinking van?

Furthermore, Cobb and the gang mentioned that they were destroying one relationship but building Robert Fisher's relationship with his dad.

2. How could Robert Fisher didn't recognize Saito when they are supposingly head-to-head competitors?

3. Okay, this is not a flaw but just another question in my head :

Why was Mal at the opposite window of the hotel room?

4. Why isn't there any other projections in Mal and Cobb's world?

Conclusion :

The director, Christopher Nolan introduced rules and limitations to the story and structured itself within the same confines.

The debates about the conclusion can go on and on and on like the Penrose Staircase.

Personally, I think he was still in a dream. =(

Cobb told Ariadne not to recreate reality in dreams but in the end, he was embedded in a world of his own memories.

He was able to see his children's faces because his sub-conscious was finally free of guilt over Mal's death.

Sex & the City 2 sucks

First of all, I would like to apologize for not blogging for like "forever". Haha.

I'm very busy with uni, having finals next week. X.X

(wish me luck!)

Anyway, yesterday I watched Sex & the City 2.

It was rather disappointing.

Reasons why it sucked :

1. Half-funny jokes.

They tried to crack some jokes but it wasn't funny enough.

It was like "haha?" instead of "HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!".

(If you get what I mean, LOL)

2. The casts are old but they are trying to be young.

*Put some pants on please, aunty.*

3. Unrealistic fashion.

I mean, I love beautiful clothes and shoes etc but it's just too much.

Even at home or in the hotel room or in the market, they were wearing long gowns that touches the floor, put on heavy make up, wear accessories etc which obviously doesn't make any sense to me.

*Carrie wore this to the market.*

*Charlotte and Miranda in the bar in their suites.*

On top of that, when they were in the deserts, they changed their wardrobe thrice?

a) On the way there 1 outfit

b) When they have to sit on the camel, they had changed to another outfit

c) When they have lunch, change to another outfit again

4. Bad karaoke.

If they can't sing, don't make them sing!

5. The movie did not finish what they started.

For example, Samantha Jones's hottie in Abu Dhabi just disappeared.

So was Carrie Bradshaw's ex-boyfriend, Aidan.

6. Boring.

I found myself yawning throughout the movie (not because I was sleepy).

The first quarter of the movie was boring.

It only started to get exciting when they were in Abu Dhabi.

7. Too dramatic

When Carrie kissed Aidan, she went nuts and had to call all her friends to talk about it.

8. Too fairytale.

Even when Carrie kissed Aidan, Mr. Big forgave her without any fight and bought her a black diamond ring.

Come on, everybody knows that that doesn't happen in the real world?

9. Miley Cyrus was in the movie.

I think number 9 says it all. HAHA.

BUT, to give the movie some credit, I do love a few things :

1. A different scene.

I was quite surprised when most of the movie was set in Abu Dhabi which was unique.

*No, this was not the hotel they stayed. I couldn't remember the name. Haha.*

2. Love the wardrobe, as usual.

Ermmm, that's about it? XP

Movie fact :

The movie was actually not filmed in Abu Dhabi because the officials rejected after reading the scripts. They were also unhappy to be associated with the movie.

The real location was actually Marrakesh, Morocco.

English vs Mandarin

Which language do you think is more important in our society?

English or Mandarin?

Before moving further, I would like to say that I'm not insulting any of these languages in any way, I'm just justifying their importance in my opinion. =)

Back to the main topic,

Did you know that Mandarin is actually the world's most spoken language?

This is due to the fact that population of Chinese makes up of 1/6 of the total world population.

Mandarin is said to have the most native speakers of 873 million

(meaning : the first language a person learns first) while

English have only have 341 native speakers.

However, 1.5 billion or 1 out of every 5 people knows English.

Now, the reason why I am writing this post is because I don't really know how to speak in Mandarin (I do know how to listen and speak basic Mandarin though) so I do get frustrated when I see people don't know English.

For example, this :

Can somebody translate that to me?

I know I sounded like a hypocrite because I'm not very good in Mandarin and other people don't know English but I get frustrated when they don't.

This is because I think English is a really easy language to learn and it is also very important as a language worldwide.

Besides that, it is also one of Malaysia's most spoken language so I find it a bit embarrassing for Malaysians who do not know BASIC English.

Although Mandarin has the most native speakers, it only has official status in the People's Republic of China, Taiwan and Singapore.

Meanwhile, English has official status in AT LEAST 30 countries.

Btw, having official status does not mean that it is the sole language in the country.

Furthermore, more than 80% of the pages on the Web are in English.

With the Internet era where Internet is the source of most FREE information,

not knowing English would be a pity.

That being said, I did learnt Mandarin in kindergarten and took extra classes in Standard 1 and 2.

However, I don't know what happened to the extra classes after that and I forgot how to use it. Haha!

I think schools should actually continue giving these extra classes because knowing an extra language is beneficial.

To be honest, I find our government's move to change Mathematics and Science from English back to Bahasa Malaysia is also questionable.

All subjects (except languages subjects) are taught in English when the students move up to college and university levels.

I studied Accounting in Bahasa Malaysia in secondary school and when I reached college, it was obviously taught in English and I had a bit of a difficulty learning it.

How about Science? Wouldn't it be worst with all those scientific terms?

Excelling in secondary schools does not mean a thing because you can't be a doctor by completing SPM or STPM.

I think there are many other alternatives to popularize Bahasa Malaysia besides this.

Okay, back to the original question,

When I first heard about Tumblr, I thought it is a bottle tumblEr.

Seriously.

Haha!

Tumblr is actually a blogging platform, just like Blogspot, Wordpress etc.

However, I actually preferred using Tumblr more than Blogspot.

(Opps, I really shouldn't write this since I'm using Blogspot here? Haha.)

The reasons :

1. Tumblr is more user-friendly.

As you can see in the picture,

I can choose how I want to blog.

Different format gives you different layouts.

However, that also depends on how you customised your blog. =)

2. License to copy.

While all of us bloggers hate copycats,

In Tumblr, you are FREE to copy anyone's post by "REBLOG".

With this function, you can copy and acknowledge the original blogger.

People actually love it when you reblogged them because it is like free publicity.

For people who loves pictures like me, Tumblr is perfect.

My Tumblr is full of the pictures I reblogged from others.

By clicking on the circled button in blue, I can view the history of this picture until back to who originally posted it.

3. Convenient.

Similar to Blogspot, you can "Follow" people and receives their updates at the dashboard.

The best part is, at the dashboard itself, you can "Like", "Reblog" or "Reply" ("Reply" only works for "Text" posts I think) there and then.

4. Plenty of pages.

In Tumblr, I can follow the pages full of pictures of the celebrities I love such as Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, Britney Spears, Gossip Girls, Victoria's Secret Angels, blah blah blah... you name it.

There are also pages devoted to fashion (with all the nice clothings), architecture, animals etc.

All I have to do it search for Tumblr + ___ (Whatever you want) in Google.

5. Connected.

I am actually more connected around the world with Tumblr, not Facebook, not Blogspot.

This is because, Tumblr actually records the activities of a post such as who "Liked" it, who "Reblogged" it and so forth.

Then I can click on their pages and "Follow" them. =)

6. Themes

There are plenty of themes to be chose from.

When I just started Tumblr, I can spent hours on choosing the themes because I was spoilt with choices!!!

Each theme have different customization - Some allowed more, some allowed less.

But mainly it was on colours.

HOWEVER,

Tumblr has its disadvantages too :

1. I'm not sure if ads could be placed in Tumblr. =(

2. You can't really comment on other people's posts except their "Text".

Furthermore, the person who posted the "Text" can't reply you.

(It doesn't really work like Facebook)

3. Not all themes look good with a Chatbox in it.

Anyhow, I still love Tumblr. =)

Boners in the Morning

As promised to Ieka, Susan, Hui Yin, Janice and David, I would research on this topic and blog about it to clear the air once and for all. HAHA!

The question :

Why do guys have boners in the morning?

This is also termed as "morning wood" or "morning tent".

Before moving on, do you know what's a "boner"?

Boner is a slang term for an erected penis. XP

So back to the original question, before I did my research, I was told that guys get boners in the morning because they want to pee.

Guess what, that's a MYTH!

The boner and the need to pee are coincidental.

If guys really do get boners because they want to pee, we would be seeing erected dicks everywhere everyday!!!!!!!

(So Janice was right about this one. HAHA!)

Oh by the way, having morning wood and wanting to pee is called "Pee Horn".

Morning woods are not necessarily caused by dirty thoughts.

Did you watch "The Proposal" acted by Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds?

(If you didn't, go watch it! It's quite a nice movie!)

Anyway, there was a scene where Ryan's family member wanted to come into their room in the morning.

They were pretending to be a couple getting married. Ryan was actually sleeping on the floor while Sandra was on the bed.

So, Ryan quickly rushed to the bed pretending all lovey dovey with Sandra.

Then probably Sandra felt his "morning wood" and gave Ryan a disgusted look thinking that he was excited from all that close proximity.

Then he answered something about it was morning time.

Anyway, based on Answer.com, there are several reasons for "morning wood".

1. Result of deep relaxation.

This is due experienced in deep sleep called REM (rapid eye movement).

REM is a complicated topic (I've presented it in class once, haha).

All you've gotta know is that there are 5 dream stages, first four are non-REM while the last one is REM.

REM is the stage where most vivid dreams will occur.

2. The male testosterone level is at its highest in the early morning during restful sleep, usually built up during the night and at its highest around 4-6 a.m.

3. Boners are considered as a source of increased blood supply to the penis.

Thus, the male body will have several erections at night, just to keep the penis healthy. HAHA!

So, guys...

Go have boners for a healthier life! XP

ps, A totally different topic, while I was researching for this thing,

I saw "Death erection".

Death erection is a post-mortem erection, observed in corpses of human males who have been executed, particularly by hanging.

No offence to the dead but can you imagine a dead body with a boner??

Clash of the Titans

I just watched this movie with my boyfriend yesterday.

We purposely waited for this movie until 12.05am because the slots before that are full in the cinema.

It was so not worth it.

This movie sucks!

This movie is mainly about the Greek Gods and the people created by them.

Why it sucked:

1. The graphics.

This guy is Sam Worthington.

He acted in as the main character in Avatar as Jake Sully and also this movie as Perseus.

The difference is, the graphics in Avatar was superb.

The graphics in this movie sucks and it was fake as hell.

To portray a God, they make them have this blurred shiny armor that looks like your TV is not working :

WTF???

I'd rather have the gold ring on top of the head. Haha.

(Ken Yang said it is called as a "Halo".)

2. People always said that Avatar is not original blah blah blah.

Clash of the Titans is much worst than that!

This movie is a total copycat!!

It contains a lil' bit of Transformer,

*I can't find a better picture than this but this THING over here looks like a robot when it removes its cloth.*

Harry Potter,

Star Wars,

Anastasia (the Disney cartoon),

Percy Jackson and the Olympians : Lightning Thief

*Medusa with the snake hair.*

...and "God" knows what else.

3. There wasn't a single kiss in the movie.

I mean, I know it is PG13 but...

Hello? Don't you know sex sells????

And a lil' kiss wouldn't harm any 13 year old kid.

4. The whole movie's mission was to kill Kraken, some big sea-monster.

However, the final battle was kinda short and it looked so easy to defeat it.

That's Kraken.

5. Same thing when it comes to defeating this guy from Hell :

6. There were more than 1 monster that have pointy tails.

Can't they get a lil' more creative?

7. They said this woman is the prettiest one in the world blah blah blah.

*Even having the badass guy from James Bond wouldn't help this movie.*

The woman from point number 3 is wayyy better than her.

8. Basically, the whole story doesn't make sense at all (to me).

My rating for this movie is only 3 out of 10.

Ken Yang even slept halfway of the movie. HAHA!

If you really wanna watch it, please don't waste your money on the 3-D.

I've never heard of this movie until yesterday when it won

Oscar for Best Picture,

over Avatar.

I mean, I think Avatar was like WOW so I was expecting it to win but oh well... =(

Anyway, I decided to watch this movie yesterday with Ken Yang

(since he downloaded it already)

to see what is it all about.

Ok, firstly, the casts.

This movie is about war so mainly there's only guys.

I think female casts only showed up like 10 minutes (or less) in the screen.

FYI, this is a 2-hour movie.

I must say, as a girl, I'm not a big fan of war movie.

However, the opening was quite interesting.

It started off with this quote :

"The rush for battle is often a potent and lethal addiction,

for war is a drug." - Chris Hedges

Then they have this scene where they used remote-controlled robot to defuse bombs and things like that.

There's also this quite cute guy (I thought he was the main character).

He is Sergeant Matt Thompson in the film.

Guy Pearce in real life.

*Just joking!*

He and his friend (whatever the name is, Not So Cute) had this funny conversation (my personal favorite in the entire movie) when the robot couldn't push some object :

Handsome : Now push it in.

Not So Cute : I can't.

Handsome : What you mean you can't? Pretend it's your dick, man.

Not So Cute : (laughs) How about if I pretend it's your dick?

Handsome : You'll never get in if you did that. Here, let me have a shot.

Not So Cute : Give me a second.

Handsome : No, come on. My dick, man.

God it was hilarious!

So I was thinking,

"Nice opening quote, cute guy, funny conversation... Hey, this movie is really not bad!"

Then, the only guy worth looking at in the entire movie died in the first 10 minutes.

WTF.

Then his position was replaced by this guy.

I don't remember his name.

Let's just call him Ugly.

Even the Camel was cuter.

In my opinion, this movie was just OKAY.

It's mainly on what a war is really about from a soldier's eye.

It showed what soldiers had to go through in Iraq.

Hidden bombs are everywhere and they get sudden attacks too.

Then these soldiers have to diffuse the bomb (it's mainly on diffusing bomb only actually) and kill the bad guys.

However, instead of like 1 whole big troop of armies, their team only consist of 3 people.

So you don't get those fighting and bombing in a large scale thingy.

The reason why I said this movie was just OKAY was because they gave a few examples of what a soldier have to go through and that's it.

They don't really develop the scenes.

I mean, it is good that they showed us what's going on and all but it was too brief.

They don't even explain like what are all the hand signals the soldiers did.

Let me put it this way,

they make you high but not high enough for you to reach orgasm.

HAHA!

That was how I felt.

NOT QUITE REACHED.

To me, there wasn't a proper story line in this entire movie.

I mean, they started off with diffusing bomb in Area 1, then handsome guy died, new guy comes, diffuse bomb in Area 2, diffuse bomb in Area 3, fight bad guys, diffuse more bombs, mental breakdown, go back USA, buy cereals, go back Iraq to diffuse more bombs and THE END.

You would love this movie is you play games like Call of Duty.

The backgrounds were quite similar.

(I played before. Haha.)

Besides, you don't really get all the high-tech equipment.

I think the highest-tech was the remote-controlled robot.

However, there's this 1 scene that was quite inspiring.

The soldier went back USA and was buying cereal at the supermarket.

There was endless number of choices.

To him, however, it doesn't make any difference.

There were far far FAR more important things in life than doing all these petty lil things.

Anyhow, personally, I don't think it deserved the Oscar.

Avatar was better. =)

The Hurt Locker probably gets a 7 while Avatar gets a 9.

(1 being the lowest, 10 is highest)

Maybe the judges were COD fans?

I don't know. XP

ps, "Hurt Locker" is a slang for being injured in an explosion, as in "they sent him to the hurt locker"; "a place of ultimate pain."

You've heard about this right?

However, seeing how so little friends of mine have it,

I decided to write a post about it. =)

Basically, Twitter just like Facebook's status update section.

Like it or not, just like Facebook, Twitter is becoming such a trend.

Even the media had to publish the news when some astronaut first tweeted from the space.

So what's making it so HIP?

1st of all, I think its because people just have this urge to constantly tell others what they are doing or feeling.

Unlike Facebook, Twitter is more personal to me and we can just post a few rants within a minute.

If you do that in Facebook, probably someone would comment asking you to STFU or something. Haha.

Besides, Twitter only allows us to write 140 characters or less so people can't go on and on and ONNNNnnnnnnnn as if they're writing an essay there. Haha.

Twitter also allows us to "retweet" (RT).

It's a new feature which we can just click on anyone's tweet and republish that same tweet to our twitter friends.

It's like quoting them without having to write their names because it's already written in the retweet.

I also read that some hospitals (maybe not in Malaysia anytime soon though) that they used Twitter in the surgery rooms so that they can keep the family of the patient constantly updated with the situation inside the room.

I think that is awesome because surgeries can take up to hours.

For family members, instead of waiting stupidly and nervously for the surgery to end, at least they get some peace of mind on exactly what's going on inside.

However, in contrast from Facebook, we can't comment on someone's tweet.

We have to reply with "@" followed by our friend's account name.

We can also include a few friends at a time in a same tweet.

This not only apply during replies but also for any tweet.

It's so convenient that instead of writing a few times at all our friend's wall, we just write it once.

Even Facebook had to copy this feature. Haha.

Twitter is very popular among the celebrities too.

So we can "follow" them (it's like becoming friends in Facebook) and read their tweets.

However, they may not necessarily follow you back.

So, if you keep your tweets private, they can't see your reply if you write something to them.

You can keep your tweets private or public.

Public means everyone (including the ones that does not follow you) can see your tweet.

If you have personal message for somebody, you can always send a direct tweet which works like an "inbox".

Even CNN have Twitter.

So, you can be updated with the latest news but with just brief sentences.

I stopped following them though because they tweet too OFTEN. Haha.

They were flooding my page!

Anyway, my point is,

go get a Twitter if you haven't!

Everyone heard about the Haiti earthquake that happened on 12th January 2010 right?

However, what you didn't hear was this amazing song :

(the guy who made the funny sound and appeared multiple times)

is as annoying as hell.

They probably gave him more slots because he's from Haiti.

In contrast, Celine Dion was amazing.

I used to be her big fan when I was younger

this song just reminded me why I love her. =)

Chinese New Year is NOW.

When you talk about CNY, the 1st thing that comes to my mind is money. XP

*Ang pau lai!*

I mean, don't everybody???

Hehe.

Money is awesome.

Money does make the world go round.

Money does buy you SOME love.

M-O-N-E-Y!

However, money also can cause many problems especially when it comes to family and friends.

From personal experiences and also stories from others,

I've seen how money can destroy relationships,

causing people who were once very close to stop speaking to each other anymore.

*Look, even this little puppy here knows how to appreciate money!*

Whether is it family business, inheritance, a simple borrowing or lending situation,

just a slight misunderstanding (or greediness) will lead to these feuds.

Therefore, this year,

let's not argue over little matters regarding money

& break any relationships amongst us. =)

If possible, try to chill and settle things peacefully.

Haha.

Don't be like a tiger although it is a Tiger year. =)
