These pictures are from the last day on the town in Sao Paulo brazil! Ashley Treece and I decided to shoot this outfit against a bright pop of yellow for contrast.

I'm finally back home in NY (where we're facing torrential downpour's of rain) but it's good to be back in my bed and relax. Maybe one day soon I'll visit Brazil again, hopefully Rio during Carnival!

The day following our arrival in the tropical country of Brazil, Ashley Treece and I decided to hit the town! We ran into a beautiful park which had a view of the local Sao Paulo skyline, did you see? Everything there is so different from the states- architecture, food, shopping and even people! it was such an experience.

*fist pumping* what's up guys? sorry about the hand, it still thinks I'm at the Sweetlife festival. Washington DC's 4th annual music & food festival took place last saturday showcasing great bands such as Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Kendrick Lamar. I want to personally thank Men in Cities for having me and being able to wear some sick jewelry, make sure to check their site out. Aside from the great bands, I was equally as entertained by the festival "streetstyle". Girls in flower crowns & men in neon occupied the entire space. I've assembled some fun, bright, summer-esq pieces in the shopping bar above. enjoy.

One word describing my weekend getaway to Washington DC? AMAZING. I arrived friday afternoon and immediately took to the town with my bud Freddy. We saw a handful of monuments including the Reflecting Pool, Lincoln Memorial, National Treasury building, THE WHITE HOUSE, and more.

I was given the pleasure to collab with the one-of-a-kind jewelry designer Edwards & Rellas and styled this prominent, bold skull heart ring. I dressed it down urban style by combining washed denim and black linen. Simple, masculine details are the way to go for a characteristic outfit.

IAMGALLA is evolving

If you're an avid reader of I Am Galla then you've probably noticed that I like to try new things all the time in regards to styling. You could say I'm mental and ADD or you could say I'm daring and courageous, it's really depends on how much you like me I guess. When it comes to dressing myself I stand by the most influential words of 2012, YOLO. But seriously, If you want to dabble in different things then why not? you've got one life to live might as well do it without any regrets.

I suppose one of the other big factors of my ever-changing style is because I look at clothes from a strategic marketing standpoint. If a company approaches me with a garment, I immediately ponder "how could I photograph this? where would be the best setting? should there be any creative inspiration? Will the end result make people say 'i want that'" etc. etc. That's why I like to tell people that my blog is 50% personal style and 50% creative editorial. It didn't hit me until recently that there is an actual job for what I do in the real world, creative/art director! Grace Coddington anyone? I was under the impression I was going to have to do styling, or marketing or one specific profession but in actuality I could have a say in all! Several publications as well as brands have creative art directors who work with an entire team to capture the overall essence or theme of the season/editorial. Here's the full definition of an art director by way of Wikipedia:

"Various artists may create or develop specific parts of an art piece or scene; but it is the charge of a sole art director to supervise and unify the vision. In particular, the art director is in charge of the overall visual appearance and how it communicates visually, stimulates moods, contrasts features, and psychologically appeals to a target audience. The art director makes decisions about visual elements used, what artistic style to use, and when to use motion."

With that being said, I'm happy to announce that along with menswear, I will also be blogging about art direction. My goal is to publish 2 editorials a month with in-depth, creative visions I put together (hopefully with team!). In the past I've done a variety of different inspired looks ranging from Harry Potter, Twilight, winter, Autumn, chart topping songs, broadway shows and more. There are no limits to inspiration! See some of my favorites below.

From long hair to short hair to long hair again, you'd think I had a weed on my head. It was fun trying different kinds of hairstyles with the outfits I sported though. April was a fun experimental month! I dabbled in sportswear and tried seasonal pieces such as shorts and colored trousers. My personal favorites are 4, 7 and 13!

Morning guys. I apologize for not posting yesterday, I was at a convention for 13 hours working on my marketing-consulting job. As some of you may know, the cost of living in NY is insanely high so when I moved out here I decided it'd be best to get a job as well as blog. I work for a few startup apps called fl3ur & MIKAlook doing consulting for marketing and digital outreach. In the very small amount of spare time I have I like to spend it with my friends, maybe an event or two and of course, the gym! segueing into the outfit...I'm pretty stoked about my new NumberLab sporty jacket which is perfect for this bipolar NY weather. I can go for a jog in it, wear it to the gym or even wear it socially. It's pretty versatile and when I got to thinking about it, all guys should have one. I paired it with a vneck, black skinny's, converse and a carrying bag. simple, comfy, sporty.

Styling fluorescents in a subtle way

Evening readers, hope you had an eventful day! let's get straight to the outfit- I'll be the first to say I'm not a big fan of fluorescent colors but yet again, moderation has convinced me otherwise. I received this jacket from NumberLab and was happy to realize it was reversible! A pleaser for both parties - the bold colorful folks or the subtle and classic. I personally liked the checker pattern on the exterior and the lime peaking out every now and then. It was a refresher! I styled the rest of the outfit very modern and dapper. Skinny tie, skinny trousers and a menvelope! My roommate asked "where would one where this outfit?" and to be honest, anywhere! it's dressed up enough to attend events or meetings yet sporty enough for a lunch or hangout.

try working in other "highlighter" hues into your everyday outfits for spring SUBTLY. Neons such as pink, yellow, lime or orange are great in forms of socks, watch straps, belts, shoe laces or lining of jackets(I've included some in the shopping bar above). Try making the rest of the outfit more toned down to hone in on the bright pops of color and you should be good to go:)

I can't stress enough how happy I am that it's spring. Finally the chunky boots can be thrown in the closet and I can fully engage in wearing sock-less sporty kicks. A personal favorite of mine are Vans, they come in every color imaginable and are classic silhouettes. Maybe this Cali boy is bias but they are definitely worth a try! Also an undying trend is white, the (every) season option that says "Hey I'm well groomed and take pride in my spotless appearance but whatever you do, don't look at my apartment" Even lucite kicks are making their debut by way of Acne's recent collection.

all in all- play with colors (or none at all with white), Try no socks and play with sporty brands like Lacoste.

Channeling Urban

Out of all the looks I like to sport, this is definitely one of my favorites. The whole urban thing just works for me, especially when I don't shave. It's also extremely comfortable being able to just throw on a shirt, some flannel and a beanie - you're ready to go. I've even added some gold bling to my wrists by way of GEORGE FROST, a uni sex jewelry collection from LuLu Frost.

In other news, I'm wearing one of my favorite reconstructed jackets by the one and only Tevin Vincent, check more of his stuff out here. Considering I wanted the jacket to sing, I approached the rest of the outfit with simplicity. Denim, wayfarers and oxfords are a traditional favorite of mine, so why stop now? I really must say, the location gave the jacket a run for its money.. I mean look at that beautiful store front! Strong whites, clean windows, and red subtleties? I WILL shoot there again
